How can we discern if a young person is a true disciple of Jesus Christ? A child growing up in a Christian home and in the church can know all the right words to say and yet still be dead in sin (Ephesians 2:1) with a heart far from God (Isaiah 29:13). This guide has been developed for parents and others in the church to help young people ages 11 and older who profess faith in Christ to examine themselves to see whether they are “in the faith” (2 Corinthians 13:5). Established in the Faith is designed to help parents and churches lead young people through a six-step process to explore their understanding of the truth of the gospel and the state of their souls. It includes Scripture passages and questions to consider, biblical truths and topics to discuss, and suggestions for times of shared prayer. This process will help *Set clear goals and expectations for your time with the young people you disciple. *Ensure that they have a clear understanding of the gospel. *Explain what it means for them to have assurance of salvation and to affirm their faith in God. *Explore the meaning of baptism and how to know when they are ready to be baptized. *Help them prepare to give a public testimony of faith. The appendix includes additional resources to help answer further questions about these important topics to equip both the church and the home in this vital youth discipleship role.
I really like this book. Even though this book's intended audience is for parents, everyone should read this book b/c David Michael gives foundational principles that all Christians know but tend to forget and overlook. This book has many passages of Scripture to back up arguments, is formatted quite nicely, and is reasonably short. Writing style is quite professional too which is always a plus for academic study. Would definitely read this again
