She follows the law. I break it. Joanna is a damsel in distress. And hell, if I ain't her knight. She's a lawyer, and I'm deep in the MC life. We're complete opposites, But the way her hips sway? They don't know the difference. Her body calls to me, and I'm not saying no. She knows I'm no good for her. But when her sister is in trouble, and she needs my help? Suddenly we're on the same team. Rules are meant to be broken. And we're breaking all of them.
Savannah Rylan is a romance writer that spends most of her time writing and reading with her cat, Gris. When not penning the next great American novel, (HA), you can find her on the beach with a drink in her hand or at the gym testing out some strange new position. Yoga, obviously. She lives in Southern California with her husband and Gris, the true love of her life.
The first book of The Dragon Riders MC. Link is the president. On his way home one night he stops to help a stranded woman, Joanna. She is leary of him as she is by herself in a new town but once he convinces her he is not a threat he gets her home. He even has a nice surprise for her come morning. She does show up at his bar to thank him and runs into someone she has dealt with before and the man hates her. Wish there was more to that story. After leaving the bar and going to her job her little sister comes begging for help. She has gotten herself in some trouble. Joann does what she can but she is not equipped to help much. She goes to ask Link for help. Just when you think the trouble is over Joanna ends up in way over her head and Link must save her. BA pretty good book. The MC members don't seem as rough around the edges as some of the authors past books and I found what little information about their club house to be a little weird but hopefully more information will come along later in the series.
Rylan is usually pretty reliable for enjoyable but fairly routine biker romances (at least what I've read of her). This one was not one of them. Cheesy or awkward writing, continuity errors, plot points that make no sense, plain old typos and some less-than-likeable characters just didn't add up to a winner for me. At least it was free, I guess.
Joanna (h) is a new lawyer in town. She's stuck on the side of the road with a broken down car when Link (H) stops by and offers help. There's plenty of sexual spark, but with her being a lawyer and him being in an MC, it looks like their paths won't be crossing much. Until Joanna's sister comes into town on the run from another MC and they need some outside help.
Pretty standard biker romance in a lot of ways. The girl on one side of the law, the guy in the grey area of the MC, the threatening rival club putting the h (and her family) in danger... lots of classic themes in here. The club isn't as gritty or as illegal as some MCs in other series, and is definitely more respectful of women too. Neither good nor bad, just a different feel, if that's what you're looking for.
The specific characters here are alright. Joanna is kinda flighty (more from the editing, I think, and the author's complete unfamiliarity with criminal law - more on that in a moment). Hope is an utter idiot, though. Yes, she had ended up in a horrible situation, but all her decisions up to that point were pretty much choosing the dumbest option she could. But then acting defensive about it! 'Jeez, why on earth would I read a contract given to me by a biker I've just met! How could you expect that of me??' Literally, her response to Joanna asking if Hope read her (one page!) contract: "I knew you wouldn't understand!" Well, honestly, Hope, I agree with Joanna - definitely don't understand either.
The wording was kinda ridiculously flowery. Like, to the point of cheesy absurdity. His "salivating eyes"? He's "majestically" licking her?? I lost it at that one. You just have to laugh. Which shouldn't be the effect created during a sex scene in the romance you're reading.
Really, my biggest complaint was the editing/proofreading, especially with content. So much to complain about here, right from the beginning! * From when we introduce Hope. Joanna answers the phone, starts talking to her sister. Whom she believes is in California. Then she walks down the hall to answer the door, calling her sister's name, as if Hope is at the door. The same sister that she was surprised to see at her door "since I didn’t know my little sister was in town"!! * What are the odds that the small town in NY that Hope is trafficked to, clear across the country from where she was, is the one that her sister has just set up her law office in?? * My head just hurt trying to make any sense of Joanna's career. She introduces herself as a criminal prosecutor, but she has opened up her own practice? Prosecutors work for the government, not private practices. They don't have clients - they are serving the public. So was she a prosecutor and isn't anymore? Then why does she still introduce herself as one? Let's assume she's not a prosecutor anymore, as she's taking defense cases. Is she just a ridiculously underemployed defense lawyer, despite all her long hours? And the hearing itself - it's a "sentencing hearing" but they're trying to add new charges? Yes, prosecutors can add or adjust charges, but there's usually a time limit. Sentencing comes at the very end of the trial - charges are long since filed, the trial pretty much over and done. Sentencing determines what the punishment will be, after conviction. It's definitely not a time to add new charges. And even a casual viewer of Law & Order can tell you that. Did she mean preliminary hearing? Basically, Joanna's career was a mush of legal jargon thrown in to make it seem like she had a driven, professional life, but written by someone who had no experience with it and did no research. Highly, highly distracting. * Thinking of her career, why is Sly so mad at Joanna? Apparently she questioned him on the witness stand. And that's it - that's all we learn. She commented that he left the courtroom not in handcuffs. So, he apparently suffered no repercussions for whatever he was in court for? Or was he even the defendant (would the DA have really let a law student question the defendant on the stand in what was apparently a huge case)?? Either way - what does he have to be mad about??? * Fair amount of typos too, even beyond the content editing needed. One-letter typos, and homophone or near-homophone issues. Quite a number of sentences where you could tell it had been reworded, but not fully corrected. The usual stuff. Distracting, but honestly, the content issues and plot holes/errors were more so.
Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangle nonsense. Some triggering potential with the kidnap and trafficking scenes. Fairly formulaic, but sometimes it's the familiar plots you're looking for. Could have been an enjoyable read, but would have benefited from some content editing and proofreading - would have been a solid 3 stars without that distraction. Basically, do your research or don't write about something you know nothing about but is common enough that others might, and check for continuity errors. Would have cleared up a lot of my distractions just with that. No cliffhanger, but some club friction that's laying the groundwork for drama in the next couple books. No epilogue either, though the leads are moving in together, so fairly HEA.
Would I read more? Sure. Like I said, sometimes you want the formulaic escapes, and not all Rylan's books are as big a mess as this one is. I've enjoyed other things she's written - while not favorites, they're not bad either.
In this book we have Joanna who has been in town about a year now. She is on the side of the road, car dead, nice damsel in distress. Link stops and helps her. Of course she's judging him on his clothes, bike and tattoos. But, Link knows straight laced women like Joanna do that. He sets his sights on her, and wants to win her.
Link is the Dragon Riders President - leaders. He knows cars, business, guns and women. The Dragon Riders are mostly straight laced - businesses are on the books, and no side business to speak of.
Joanna's estranged sister is in trouble. She knows she can go to Link. Link offers his help of course. When things take a turn for the worst, Link knows he's head over heels for this woman. He has to help her.
Joanna knows even though Link is massive he can help her, and she gives in and admits that she needs him and likes him also. Joanna has always been independent. She doesn't like / want to rely on anyone but herself. But, with Link by her side, she knows she can lean on him.
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book, I am freely leaving an honest review.
This is the first book in a new series “Dragon Riders MC” & it was a pleasure to read this very suspenseful MC romance. The plot is full of intrigue with some completely unexpected events. The characters are complex individuals that have good chemistry between then & react with varying emotional feelings to the unusual situations they find themselves in. There is: the President (Link) of the “Dragon Riders MC” comes across a feisty female criminal prosecutor (Joanna Slater) when her car breaks down & the attractions begin to flare, Joanna’s estranged sister (Hope), a rival MC club “Golden Jags” & their devious President (Skeleton), intrigue, suspense, humor, twists & turns, adventure, action, human trafficking, abduction, auctions, slavery, drama, danger, threats, confrontations, violence, conflict, anger, protectiveness, acceptance, trust, love, steamy scenes & a satisfying conclusion with a interesting glimpse at the next book in the series. I would recommend this MC romance to people who like to read this genre.
There are two different types of MC romance books, those that show the seedier, bullying, no respect for women side of a bunch of men doing bad things and riding motorcycles, and then there are this type, not quite good but definitely not bad, not bully but definitely alpha, and no disrespect to women is tolerated. This is the type of book I like to read, is it a true rendition of an MC? I like to think that it could be that there is a brotherhood of good men who honor women while not quite letting the law stop them being protectors. It’s certainly fun reading about them.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the first book in the Dragon Riders MC series. In this book. Link is the president of the Dragon Riders and sees a woman stranded on the side of the road. Link stops to help her and can't help admiring her figure in her business suit. Joanna is a lawyer and recently moved to town to open her own practice. Joanna's car breaks down and she doesn't have the money to repair it. When Link stops, she is cautious and eventually accepts a drive home. Link doesn't try to force himself to Joanna, but he gives her his card and tells her to call him if she needs anything. The next day, Joanna is shocked to see her car in her driveway, fixed and even cleaned. Joanna goes to see Link to thank him for her car, when she sees Link, he tells her he only wants to get to know her for payment. Joanna learns her younger sister is in trouble and they have no one to turn to for help. Joanna decides to go to Link and ask for help. Link learns Joanna's sister was involved with a rival MC and they are dangerous. Link is determined to protect Joanna and hopes to make her his. I really liked this book. I liked Link, he seemed like he was willing to do anything to help Joanna. I liked how the other guys in the MC followed Link and wanted to protect the women. I think this is going to be another good series. I look forward to reading more.
I thought that this was a very entertaining read and a great way to kick-off this exciting new series. I really enjoyed the dynamic and chemistry between Link and Joanna. The book read easily and held my attention well. An enticing blend of drama, action, emotion and tension make for a very pleasurable reading experience. I'm really looking forward to book two! And I have to comment on how awesome it is that each of these Dragon Riders MC members shares his name with a video game character. As I am a long time gamer and a romance reader, I found this nod to some of my favorite game characters terribly fun!! In fact even the name of the MC club (Dragon Rider's) is a title of a video game! I'm not sure if this was intentional or not on the part of the author but I feel it is pretty safe to assume it was and I totally loved it. I am posting an independent, frank review.
President of the Dragon Riders Mc, Link has met his match in a criminal prosecuter named Joanna. Assisting her after finding her on the side of the road, Link goes out of his way to fix her car, then helps to find her sister. The chemistry between these two is so hot and steamy, it takes readers on a journey that is filled with fast paced action, suspense, danger and romance. A story that is so much more than an just an MC read, add in a HEA for the biker president and the criminal prosecuter, and the rest is history. A great introduction in the 'Dragon Riders MC' series, it is a standalone read as readers wait for Bowser's story next. **I was gifted a copy of "Link" and leave my review voluntarily based on my reading** 5 Stars!
What a sensationally suspenseful new MC romance from Savannah Rylan. Link is the president of the Dragon Riders an enemy of Golden Jags. Joanna first appears to be a damsel in distress but is far from it. Attraction burns hot and fast between these two but when one stands in a white area and the other in the gray will they be able to make a relationship work. I loved this first book in a new series. Link and Joanna’s chemistry was very evident the first time they met but I loved the slow build up to their love story. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. “I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.”
This is an exciting action packed suspense filled mc romance story. Link has never been a man that wanted just one woman until her. This story has some dark twisted turns but it will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters will captivate you.The chemistry between Link an Elizabeth is smoking hot off the charts .There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.
Yet again another fantastic book by Savannah Rylan. Loved this story of Jo, the lawyer trying to make it in a new town. Her car breaks down late at night and Link comes to the rescue not only getting her home but then fixing up her car and leaving it outside her door for when she awakens the next morning and wonders how she’s getting to work. She sees her car and is so grateful that it’s running again. Then next comes Hope, Jo’s baby sister who’s running for her life from the golden jags, the most hated mc club around.
Link and Joanna will have you on the edge of your seats with this nail biting story. They meet when Joanna's car takes its last crank five miles from her home. Link comes along and although he is big, Joanna is terrified and captivated at the same time. Their story intensifies when Joanna's sister comes seeking help and when it is all said and done it will be Link and the Drain Riders MC who will have to take up the charge. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
What a great start to meet Dragon Riders MC, Say hello Link president and Joanna criminal prosecutor, now your thinking Link in court for something or one of his brothers from club are in trouble, Plenty of drama and action through out, They have SIZZLING HOT chemistry. Cant say any more with given some spoilers dont do spoilers. A must read, I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. Loved it Savannah bring on the next one.
I love this author, she never disappoints. The Dragon Riders go up against their rival MC club. Pres falls for the new criminal defense attorney in town & the club also comes to her sisters rescue. The love that strikes up between a club member & a straight laced attorney seems improbable, but they seem to make it work, for now. The next book in this series is Bowser, who is the VP of the club.
I really enjoyed reading Link(Dragon Riders MC Book 1)!!! All about Joanna Slater a women in her late twenties who is a Criminal Defense Lawyer & Link who is in his forties is the president of the Dragon Riders MC, owes several bars & other businesses in town. Read about Joanna & Link and see if they can help each other out when one is vanilla & the other is dark chocolate. Lots of emotion and plenty of toe curling occurs. Definite Read!!! Can’t wait to read book two!!!!
This isn't your usual MC book. It's not based around guys at the clubhouse it's more loosely based around one of their their businesses. Link helps a standard woman and he is drawn to her. The only problem she is the new lawyer in town and her past comes barrelling into her. Can Link and the guys save her sister.
This was a short read for me. It was an insta-love story which are not a face of mine. The dialogue is kinda cheesy and funny in parts especially when he "majestically" licked her slit. Yeah, total cheese. Once was enough for me so I won't be wasting my time on any more by this wannabe.
What a wonderful beginning for a new series. The author has given us characters we an care about. The story has drama, danger, action and love/lust. Add in the MC members and the story pulls you in and does not let go.
I love that Savannah Rylan can write MC stories so well. The story was captivating while building these great characters. Link and JoJo where a mismatch made in heaven, and sometimes the heart wants what it wants.
What a great start to a new series. I loved Link and Joanna's story and how he proved to her he wasn't like all the bikers she thought she knew. From the minute I picked this book up I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to see what happens next!
Link and Jo are from different sides of life. Bound together by lust, heat, danger and desire. There will be rescue, rival gangs, slavery and more to deal with. But love can find a way in this hot and action packed MC story.....
Link is a good man and he helps a woman with a car issues but it turns out 2 b the best thing in their lives cause of a pull like no other that leads 2 much better future. Even with things happening with her sis things get interesting, better 4 the dragons.
Entertaining read. The chemistry between Link and Joanna was unreal. The storyline was definitely different. The evils of the Golden Jags made it really a modern day problem with the Dragon Riders trying to rid the world of that kind of scum.
The first in this series and I am impressed, I didn't think I would like it. The characters get you and you are transferred to their reality and you can see and become these characters. I have started the second book and am loving it.
I like link he is very noble and kind. I liked that he took up the reins to help someone even though a lot of the guys were hesitant. I liked the lawyer too she was confident and strong.
Its very rare to feel love from characters emerge from the pages you are reading... in this novel you certainly feel it flow.. Love the plot, and love interest... can not wait to see where the characters all end up and how the war between the clubs come to pass?
