She was jilted on her wedding day. He’s the best friend waiting in the wings.
Lexie Gallagher is starting to think she’s better off alone. Her family fell apart years ago. Her relationships all end in disaster. Is she the common denominator who causes everyone to leave? Everyone but her best friend, Gabe, who whisks her away from the scene of the latest breakup.
As the human resources VP for North Brothers Sports, Gabe North understands people and how to meet their needs. What Lexie’s always needed is a true-blue friend, doubly so when she’s left at the altar. Of course he’ll be her shoulder to cry on—even though he’s wanted to be more than friends for years.
As Lexie heals from her recent rejection, Gabe is everything she needs…and then he becomes even more. But when life gets tricky, can Lexie believe that true blue is forever, or will she find herself eternally alone?
True Blue is the third stand-alone story in the North Brothers contemporary romance series.
Amy Knupp is a USA Today Best-Selling author of contemporary romance and a freelance copy editor. She loves words and grammar and meaty, engrossing stories with complex characters.
Amy lives in Wisconsin with her husband, and has two sons, four cats, and a box turtle. She graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in French and journalism. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, breaking up cat fights, watching college hoops, and annoying her family by correcting their grammar.
I love how Gabriel "Gabe" North steps in and quietly supports Lexie Gallagher when she needs a friend most, but he also gives it to her straight when she needs a kick in the pants. His long-held secret? It's equally sweet and ridiculous, which makes it a good story to listen to or read.
“Lexie Nicole Gallagher, I’m going to show you exactly how sure I am. If you’ll let me.” -- Gabe North
They have been through a lot together, starting as childhood friends and never letting that connection fade. I love how supportive they are of one another. Even more, I love how Gabe will drop everything to be by Lexie's side in a time of need, perceived or actual. 😍 And when things escalate to more than just friends, I really like how he doesn't let her push him away for long.
I occasionally read along while listening to the audio book. The narrator is Stephanie Nemeth-Parker. I continue to enjoy her work.
I really enjoyed this and the hero is delightful in many ways. He’s a genuinely loving and kind person to everyone around him and pays close attention to the heroine and her wants and needs. He puts her needs first and treats her really well. He’s emotionally very healthy and is encouraging to Lexi as she figures out how to address some very serious issues as she recovers from her breakup.
I love the friends-to-lovers vibe going here and it made me so happy that they are so in tune and loving with each other as friends first.
This is 3rd person dual POV but sadly, the audiobook only has one narrator (female voice). I would have LOVED having a male narrator included, but I’m sure this would be more expensive. This was a free “stuff your earbuds” audiobook.
Here are more detailed thoughts and why I could not give this five stars: 1. Stereotypical romance sizes. He’s huge and more than a foot taller than her. His “eggplant” is SO big that she wonders “how can this fit?” She’s tiny. Seriously, ridiculously tiny. She’s 5’1” and 105 lbs. Why authors use weights like this is beyond me. She describes herself as child sized… and he describes her as tiny SO MANY TIMES. Frankly, I’m tired of tiny heroines and giant heroes. I want this to change.
2. He has been in love with her for years, but still dated and slept with other women. Of course, he always kept things casual with those other women because he couldn’t offer them a future when he was in love with his best friend. Then WHY WOULD YOU NOT ASK YOUR BEST FRIEND FOR MORE? Why would you think it’s romantic to tell her that all the other women were “placeholders”? It’s super not fair of him to date other women knowing he had nothing to offer them re: a relationship. His heart was taken, but he still gave out his body. Ugh. This was so irritating to me.
3. He’s the emotionally healthy one. This is a plus, for sure. But it’s a little exhausting that he gets to be wise and thoughtful and give her good advice and she needs to grow while he’s super perfect and understands what she needs. Why doesn’t the author point out how fearful and lacking courage he has been in not saying anything? Why doesn’t it get pointed out that he’s slept around while in love? His emotional issues are swept under the rug while hers are put front and center in the book. I loved that he was so emotionally healthy for the most part, but would have liked to see him acknowledge his lack of health as well. It just came off as he’s perfectly well while she’s got a lot of growing to do.
Safety deets - the heroine is dumped by her fiancé at the very beginning of the book, but there are no other men she’s dating. We meet at least one of his past f-buddies in the book and that’s when the hero explains that it was super casual and she (like all women except the heroine) was a placeholder. - we see them get married in the epilogue, but it happens weeks after the book ends. We assume an HEA but don’t see them living it out. - condoms used; however, diseases are not discussed.
Once again, we have another wonderful story written by this talented author and a great addition to this much loved series about the North brothers. Owners of the successful North Brothers Sports , close knit and very family oriented. Gabe North is the VP of Human Resources. His best friend since childhood, Lexie Gallagher, is also the girl he’s been secretly in love with fo years. When on her wedding day the groom leaves before the ceremony, Gabe comes to her rescue and takes Lexie away, giving her a chance to breath and re-group. As Gabe continues to be there for Lexie, feelings start to show and a kiss begins to change everything between them. But Lexie is still struggling with feelings of not being enough, doubts about her professional future, and not wanting to lose her very special friendship with Gabe. In the end, can they overcome the obstacles? Will Gabe be able to show Lexie she is loved and that being together will be the best thing for them both or will Lexie’s past get in the way? A touching at times heartbreaking but also heartwarming story about family, friendship and love. Looking forward to the next story in the series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
True Blue is one of the best contemporary romances I have read in recent memory! Gabe and Lexie are truly best friends and Gabe has been in love with her for years. When Lexie finally acknowledges Gabe is much more than a friend, their chemistry is amazing. Yes, there is lovemaking in the story - lovemaking, not sex. There is also support, deep commitment and long standing love for one another.
Lexie is so strong and at the same time, vulnerable. She is finding herself and identifying her dreams as the story progresses, helped by the smart, funny women who are engaged to Gabe's brothers. Sierra, Mackenzie and Kennedy are the friends Lexie needs - they provide concrete help so she can realize her dreams, they have drinks with her on bad days, celebrate the good days and provide encouragement as needed.
Gabe's brothers and cousins are fabulous! The North family is the one I wanted to have as neighbors when I was growing up - just to be in the vicinity would have been a guarantee of a good time. Ms. Knupp has created the family that we want to befriend us, with distinct personalities and strengths.
I highly recommend True Blue - it's part of a series but I read it as a stand alone book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I received a copy of True Blue from the author and the opinions expressed are my own.
This is the third book in the North Brothers series and what a great story it is. Gabe and Lexie have been best friends since kids. My heart went out to her as everyone she loves leaves her making her feel unlovable. Her mother first when she was four, then her father. She spent a lot of time with the North family and they loved her as a part of them. Gabe had been in love with her forever and waited for her to grow up but then lost his chance when she got engaged. Now her fiancé tells her he isn’t marrying her right before the ceremony. Gabe took care of her getting her out of the church unseen and out of town for a couple days. He knows she needs time to deal with the breakup but will he now step up and tell her his feelings before it becomes too late again? They both had great jobs and supported each other. She is an architect but totally loves sketching and painting. He is VP of human resources for North Brothers Sports.
What a beautiful, romantic story of best friends, Lexie and Gabe. They have been best friends since childhood but somewhere along the way Gabe fell in love with Lexie. He never told her because he never wanted to lose her friendship. Now she is about to marry someone else.
This was a wonderful story of dealing with the pain from childhood and recent experiences to become a stronger person capable of loving oneself and falling in love. I really liked Lexie and how much her confidence grew as she grew as a person and found herself and what truly made her happy. So glad she found her North star. I now have to read the other books in this series! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
So I am lucky enough to have started the series with this book. Gabe North being my introduction to the North brothers. I loved so many things about this story. I adored the main characters, Gabe and Lexie, who have been best friends since kindergarten. These characters were sincere, lovable and genuine. The family and friend dynamics were heartwarming. I love the friends to lovers theme and Gabe may just be my new book boyfriend. I will be reading this series from the start. I am volunteering to leave a review for this book
Lexie is jilted on her wedding day and her best friend, Gabe, is there to pick up the pieces. Gabe has loved her forever, but was afraid to put it on the line in case he lost the friendship he cherishes. Then she announces her engagement at the North family dinner. When the wedding is cancelled, Gabe whisks her away for the week so that she can start to deal with her situation. As they spend some time talking she realizes how much of herself she compromised for her relationship with Raleigh. She also starts to delve into other areas of her life and realizes what she really wants going forward. Gabe is fantastic. He put aside his feelings for Lexie so that she would be happy even though he kicked himself for not saying something sooner. Now that she’s free again will he risk their friendship for more? I loved this book. We catch up with other members of the North family and there are a couple of glimpses of the Hale Street gang. I loved the ending and finished the book with a smile on my face. I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.
After a wedding fairlcan her best friend find lasting happiness?
This is my first review for this author, and I really enjoyed the book. Just before her wedding Lexie finds her husband to be leaving her in the lurch. Her Man Honor, Gabe, rushes her out of the church basement to a getaway. Let the family of the groom deal with the fall out. Her neighbor family (including Gabe) has been her rock for years and they wrap her in care while she tries to sort things out. Will Gabe finally take a chance to love Lexie from friend zone to something more? Lexie likes him, but what does love really mean for these two? I had fun finding out where they go and how they get there. Great read with wonderful editing. I hope you will enjoy the book as much as I did.
I received an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
True Blue by Amy Knupp tells the story of Lexie and Gabe. Growing up together it's natural that Gabe offers her a getaway from the wedding when Lexie is left at the altar. It's a brief opportunity to heal. Then it's back to the real world and rebuilding her life. Only Gabe and Lexie find that their old relationship doesn't fit comfortably anymore. What's next for them? You will enjoy! Amy Knupp is a new author for me so I was excited to receive True Blue to read and review. I love when I find a new author with a back list! Now, I've got my eye on True North!
I fell in love with Gabe and the way he continually supports and rescues Lexie. I will admit, though, that I cheered when he decided to be selfish and finally put his own needs first. Turns out that being selfish can end up being pretty awesome.
Two more book to go in the series; I'll be buying them, too. (Perhaps I'll re-read books 1-4 before the final book, to get the full benefit of the stories.)
Sometimes, as writing and publishing dates go, there is a chunk of time between books. Readers such as I will acknowledge a really good story, perhaps write a review, and then move on to the next book to read. Characters get confused in your mind, but somewhere you remember…an experience they had, or just the interactions between that stay with you. The North Brothers are that “memory” for me. I’ve been reading them from the start, and when the opportunity came to Advance Read True Blue I grabbed at it, because, well, the characters are warm, personable and engaging. True Blue is the story of Lexi Gallagher and Gabe North. Gabe was the VP of Human Resources for North Brothers Sports in the previous books, and the property investor. Lexi, friends to Sierra and Mackenzie, who are the significant others to the North brothers. The story starts with Lexi being left at the altar (or actually, an hour before the altar time) and her best friend Gabe helping her through that difficult experience. He shows to be a “True Blue” friend, taking her away from town to heal, and find her footing throughout the book as she comes into her own as an artist. Gabe is a stronger character. Already having achieved his work goals, he carries himself with the confidence Lexi lacks due to her difficult family. He is stalwart in his affection for her, yet hesitant to demonstrate and vocalize it as they have been friends from Kindergarten, always a step behind when she becomes involved in a relationship. This is a sweet story, one that illustrates the strength of family ties and the joy of friendship and loyalty. I enjoyed it more than most I’ve read because the author is able to demonstrate and communicate sensuality without vulgarity. Enough was said without a “blow by blow (literally), and my imagination was able to conjure the rest. A breath of fresh air! A loving book, and a high recommendation goes to True Blue!
Lexie and Gabe FINALLY pursue their true feelings in this great friends to lovers story full of emotional turmoil as these two best friends finally let fate take over. I've been rooting for them as it's been painful to watch them even in the periphery of the other books, and they're finally true to themselves in this story not only in admitting they love each other as more than best friends, but in their inner selves too. A path laden with emotion, internal battles, some angst, and a HEA that will make you want to silly grin with great narration by Stephanie Nemeth Parker to bring the characters to life.
5 stars I received a free copy of the novel True Blue: North Brothers book 3:Lexie and Gabe by Amy Knupp and this review was given freely. An emotional best friends to more and a love finally fulfilled romance with a bit of angst, a touch of steamy , the at times competitive North men and the always supportive extended North family. Jilted minutes before her wedding to Raleigh Clarke, emotionally scarred landscape architect Lexie Gallagher is whisked away to the Colorado's Rocky mountains by her supportive best friend of thirty years, VP of North Brothers Sports Human Resources Gabe North who struggles with his desires to move beyond their close but platonic relationship. Features a wonderful group of characters that interconnect a couple of Amy Knupp series through Clayborne's Bar and Grill. Can be read as a standalone but best if read in sequence.
What a great continuation to this story! It is finally Gabe and Lexie's turn. They have been best friends for thirty years but the time has never been right for them. This story is full of heart, emotion, friendship, and family. It can definitely be read as a standalone or as part of the series.
I love all the North brothers series. If your a sucker for friends to lovers stories like me, this is a great read for you. Lexie thinks she's found true love. Until her fiancé breaks things off minutes before the ceremony. But Gabe her best friend of 30 yrs whisks her away from his humiliation. He's wanted to be more than friends but now isn't the time. Can he convince Lexie that she is lovable. I mean as I said he's loved her for years. You should check out their journey for friends to lovers for yourself.
Lexie and Gabe have been best friends since kindergarten. When Lexi's fiancé breaks up with her on her wedding day, Gabe whisks her away. Gabe has secretly loved Lexi for years, but has kept in hidden to avoid risking their friendship. Lexi feels unlovable and is glad that she has Gabe's friendship. Gabe doesn't want to lose another chance to win Lexi's heart. I received a free copy of this ebook from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. Gabe is very sweet and puts Lexi first in his life. Lexi is a strong woman who is insecure about her lovability due to her past. I admire their strong friendship that they both value and don't want to risk. While there are a couple of steamy scenes, they definitely fit within the flow of the story. Even though this book is thoroughly enjoyable as a standalone, I love seeing glimpses of other characters from this series and her Hale Street series. I love reading this romance.
Lexi gets dumped on her wedding day and Gabe who is her best friend since kindergarten comes to her rescue by taking her away. Gabe has loved Lexi for a long time but, she see's him as a friend. Gabe doesn't want to lose her again so he sets out to win her heart but, never seems to find the right time to tell her. Will Gabe finally get the chance to tell her how he feels after all this time? Great characters filled with emotion, family support, and love and best friends falling in love.
It is such an enjoyable read. If you love a friends to lovers story, this is the book for you. It's heartwarming & moving romance. Lexie & Gabe, have been best friends forever. No matter what happened, they friendship was what was most important. Lexie's choice in men was not the best. Gabe, only wanted Lexie. But their friendship & their timing was always off. I loved reading it from the first page to the last!!
True Blue by Amy Knupp is set in the North Brothers series & doesn’t disappoint. This is a truly captivating story with a best friends to lovers theme that I didn’t want to put down. Read today! I received an advanced readers copy of this ebook & voluntarily leave my review so others don’t miss this Great book.
Gabe and Lexie’s book is an amazing story of the love that can develop over time. If you are true friends with someone and you love them with all of your heart and soul but you know in your heart that she is the one for you but it’s never the right time to tell her. You never want to lose her by revealing your feelings. Grab on to her with all of your strength and let it be known that she is the one that turns your world on end and that you can’t wait to be with her forever. Let her know that you will be here for her for as long as it takes for her to want to be with you. She’s been hurt in the past and you are her anchor. I would recommend this book. I was given an arc for an honest review.
I adore each North brother story, but I think Gabe is my favorite.
He & Lexie have such an amazing history, over 30 years as best friends, since kindergarten!
It was so fun to watch them finally admit that their love was more than just friends and watch them explore it. Lexie still has some serious baggage to deal with, but the rewards are so worth it.
I was hooked from page one🙂 Lexie gets rejected on her wedding day. Gabe who has always been a supportive friend helps her escape the humiliation. Her life is about to change in more ways than one. Fortunately Gabe is one of those changes. This is my first book by this author and I am now looking forward to reading her other books.🥰
The North brothers have captivated my heart with the previous books, so I was eagerly awaiting Gabe’s story. I knew there was more than just friendship between him and Lexi, and I was giddy with anticipation.
Unfortunately, it takes Lexi being dumped on her wedding day for things to start to change between these two friends. Gabe whisks Lexi away from the wedding venue and out of town, away from well-meaning friends she's not ready to face. She needs time to heal, to take stock of her life and make some decisions. And Gabe is there for her through it all, waiting patiently.
I fully anticipated I would enjoy Gabe and Lexi's story, but Knupp really upped her game with this one! I completely adore these two together and loved watching their growth, both individually and together. Once again, we get a vivid look at Nashville, the sights, sounds and smells, so realistic I felt like I was there. With the lifelike setting and endearing, memorable secondary characters, I experienced everything rather than simply observing it.
The members of the North family, one and all, have made a place for themselves in my heart. Their heartaches, joys and triumphs have become a part of me, and I love everything about this big, teasing, loving family, but I think Gabe and Lexi are my favorite. Their story is funny, heartfelt, steamy and fantastic, so make sure you don’t miss this phenomenal read!
One of the best friends to lovers romance this year!
Gabe North had always been in love with his best friend Lexie Gallagher and everybody in his family knew it, but he refused to tell her because she was engaged to someone else. Gabe knew he had to finally tell her when her groom breaks up with her on the day of the wedding because he couldn’t deal with her being best friends with Gabe.
Lexie was so used to changing herself into what her boyfriends wanted than being true to her personality. Gabe has to decide if he’d rather play it safe and have second-best than take a risk and maybe have it all? Gabe decided that telling Lexie was worth everything.
True Blue is one the best contemporary romances that I have read this year with Gabe and Lexie moving from friends to lovers with the support of their friends.
P.S. You need to read the rest of the North Brothers series and the Hale Street because they are so good!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Good but not great but I can’t really put my finger on why. Decently realistic story. Good depth of characters. Maybe it was that I just didn’t feel the chemistry between the main characters. I think that’s it. I’ll keep the earlier ones in the series on my to-read list, but I’m not rushing to get them.
Lexie's mother abandoned her and her father when Lexie was only four years old. Then her father became a drunk. Gabe has been her best friend since then. Gabe rescued her when her soon-to-be groom called off their wedding at the church. Unfortunately, she and her ex groom work at same company.
True Blue by Amy Knupp is the third stand-alone story in the North Brothers She was jilted on her wedding day. This is Lexie Gallagher and Gabe North's story. It would be a crying shame if Lexie Gallagher threw up on her pretty white wedding dress. Then again, the dress hardly mattered now. She was sure her jaw actually gaped as she watched her fiancé—former fiancé—all slim and clean-cut in his charcoal tux, walk away after calling off the ceremony, then turn the corner and disappear from her sight. Her chest felt heavy and tight as the situation sank in. Now what? She was standing in a nondescript hallway in the basement of a church she’d been in exactly three times in her life, with close to a hundred and fifty people due to show up in twenty-ish minutes. “Lex?” The deep, so-familiar male voice resonated through her as Gabe North, her best friend, strode around the corner from the direction Raleigh had gone. “What did he say?” Gabe said in a low, controlled voice as he hurried toward her. With some measure of relief, she drank in the sight of him, every golden-brown hair uncharacteristically in place, his tuxedo fitting him impeccably. Lexie reached out and wrapped her fingers around his forearm, maybe subconsciously hoping to prevent him from going after Raleigh when she filled him in. “We’re not…” She cleared her throat to get her voice to work. “The wedding’s off,” she croaked out. True Blue by Amy Knupp is a 4 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Amy Knupp. I won this ebook in a giveaway.
You have got to love those North Brothers. One can only imagine how handsome they really are.
Gabe and Lexie's friendship has gone back decades and they both hid their feelings for each other until Lexie gets stood up on her wedding day by a very incompatible Raleigh who works at the same place she does. The reason why he called it off is because he felt threatened by the relationship Lexie had with Gabe. He was always there whether he liked it or not. Raleigh thinks there is more than friendship and he couldn't live with that.
Lexie never had anyone in her life that stayed around long enough to care. Her worthless, self-serving parents only thought of themselves and the wellbeing and care of their daughter was the furthest thing from their mind. No kid should be subjected to parents like that. It was a complete train wreck at its finest.
Gabe did everything in his power to help Lexie overcome another heartbreaking event only to cause more damage she didn't think she would ever get out of until 'that KISS.' 'That ill-advised, bad-decision, earth-shattering KISS!'
The best part of this book is that Gabe and Lexie's friendship was mutual. It had deepened into more, something amazing, fulfilling and better than her wildest dreams. Her feelings for Gabe had absolutely increased at a record pace - at all different levels. She was pretty sure her 'love' was true. Lexie was about to give Gabe a big hunk of her heart and she'd hoped he would feel the same way for her.
The last thing Lexie wanted to do was end up like her mother. She never wanted to push people she loved away and find herself alone. It was time to come clean with Gabe about her mother.
Find out where Lexie finally gets married to Gabe. And I suggest finishing the rest of this series. In "True Harmony" you will find out who is a father from a one-night romance. It gets pretty steamy! Happy reading.
