I'm alone on Earth and Neil is gone.

He may never come back.

I know I have to move on, to be strong, to carry on...especially since I'm not the only person I have to take care of.

Kyle gives me an option I can't refuse.

So I take it.

What a lucky girl!!!!!!
My thought: what a mess this relationship, the most part really annoys me, sometimes makes me happy, but at least finished good.
It’s worth the reading!

I don’t know what it is about this authors writing, but it sure does seems to suck me in despite some things I don’t normally like in a book. I pretty much devoured this from start to finish. The last book ended on a nail biter and I HAD to know what was going to happen next. The love triangle is not something I like, but I’ll admit the author handled it pretty good. I do wish the MC’s got together sooner but overall I really enjoyed this series.

3-book series and all are available on Kindle Unlimited:
Stars On Fire
Love On Fire
Fate on Fire

From the reviews I've read, I'm definitely in the minority -- and those who did rate it similar to me didn't leave a written review, so I'm not sure if any of my complaints were shared by others. Suffice to say, I found this entire series simply mediocre. I hadn't read a book with an astronaut as the main hero since 2000 when Christie Ridgeway released "Wish You Were Here" - a rom-com that sent me soaring. Of course, my reading choices have changed throughout the years. I feel I've broadened my horizons into so many diverse interests. I didn't expect a rom-com storyline, but neither did I find a strong mature storyline.

The main characters are Charlotte, Neil, the astronaut, and Kyle, Charlotte's "best friend." Yes, there's a prominent love triangle involved between these three characters. There's also an ex-husband who creates his own kind of interruptions. I found it to be a bit juvenile - especially when others involved themselves in the mix. Conversations are just downright juvenile and silly as they butt-into something they have no business. Less of the doldrums might have given this plot a far more meaningful feeling.

I did enjoy the time spent in space with Neil and his crew. It's almost too much to really imagine. There is a diverse cast of characters both professionally and personally. The main characters certainly needed a little more facetime than was provided.

The series wasn't a perfect launch -- at times it was filled with downright adolescent and juvenile behavior -- sex took on its own starring role and at times became just repeated page-filler. Same with the non-stop repetitive body parts descriptions that made me want to gag throughout the series. Enough! Gag!! Where's the meat of the story?

The return to earth was a dull thud. For me, it ended satisfactorily or at least the way I planned it in my mind. Overall, I stretched to award a three-star rating for what I deemed to be just an unimpressive meh reading experience.

Whew! I waited and waited for this book for a year and had HIGH hopes...buuuut best laid plans and all that... so first off this book was a bit disappointing, the wording became very repetitive, rather the dialogue or their thoughts. The women in this book were wishy washy and the only people I truly felt anything for was Kyle and Neil. Both good men and great characters.

I just think the story just became very adolescent (like college years) rather than adults late twenties/thirties and I'm basing this off the dialogue especially the towards the end.

I loved the chapters with Neil and his crew, the intensity of it. I love the authors knowledge about NASA and space, very intriguing. I just wished for more intense, soul gripping, emotional "romance". Please read for yourself and just know it's for our entertainment. (Smile).

I knew it. And I hated it, and here is why: (spoilers ahead)!!

1) Charlotte was never going to tell Neil or his family about the baby, she was planning to never reveal that Vic was an uncle, that their mom had a grandchild - so basically she was incredibly selfish, and awful. (And I’m still disturbed that Cameron, her ex, is supposedly the one that can’t have children - how do they mix up results like that!!? And why would he be checking on his own fertility if he got someone pregnant, it makes no sense! It’s devastating he lost the baby especially when it was full term when it happened but that doesn’t mean he can’t have children, obviously.)

2) Charlotte allows Kyle to claim parentage.

3) Charlotte gives the baby Kyle’s last name - seriously!? Wtf!?

4) Charlotte and Kyle allow his family to believe this is his actual baby too! So they LIE to his family and to Neil’s family. And furthermore they didn’t plan to reveal the baby’s actual father to Kyle’s family even after they all believe Neil died. How sick is that!!!? When Kyle’s parents finally find out the truth (which is never discussed in the book) can you imagine how devastating that would be!? They fall in love with a baby and then he gets cut out of their lives because it’s all a lie. And how confusing for a baby to go from having those relatives then suddenly not. I mean. I guess he wouldn’t remember when he gets older but it would still be so cruel.

5) Charlotte only begins an actual relationship with Kyle after receiving news that Neil is most likely dead. Poor loyal Kyle who has always been there for Charlotte is only getting her because she finally believes it won’t be possible to be with Neil.

6) Charlotte decides to tell the Crimsons that Neil is the father now that they all think he’s dead. Can you imagine their mother finding out she missed the birth, and all the milestones so far of her son’s child because some stupid cow didn’t tell you until you find out the horrifying news that your son is probably dead!? That she planned to lie to you and never tell you! The Crimson matriarch isn’t really mentioned in the family dynamic with Vic and Stacy very often except for when Neil is going to leave each time, so it doesn’t seem like she goes to the family get together either. So she wouldn’t be seeing her own grandson inadvertently until the truth is revealed.

7) Charlotte doesn’t tell Neil about his son when he first returns or upon their first reunification. And only does it because Vic tells her to or he would.

8) The baby is 18 months (roughly) when Neil returns home and supposedly all on his own and when he first meets Neil recognizes that Neil is his actual father and calls him “daddy” 🙄

9) Charlotte only chooses Kyle over Neil because she feels she owes him. Poor Kyle. And now this 18 month old baby who is supposedly so smart he can recognize Neil as his father somehow is able to understand that even though Kyle has always been in the picture and been the father figure, he’s going to never be in the picture again. So the baby loses Kyle as a father, but it’s ok because he understands…at 18 month old!!! What!?!?

10) I am glad we got an HEA for Neil and Charlotte (mostly because of Neil and his son.) But I actually really don’t like the proposal either. Bullshit to wait so long for the “perfect” moment to propose, which is when she’s seven months pregnant with baby number 2! Wtf! They already knew they’d be together, why wait another year!? All so he could propose in his book’s dedication…that’s so dumb!

And then there’s the missing parts of the story: the fact that the author never reveals Charlotte’s background. Why does she not have her own family (parents)?
And the similarities with The Doctor series. I mentioned a bunch before, and in this book Neil claims to have realized how much he lost when he’s Mars-bound similar to how Finn recognized that when he was in Africa already. So this author seems to have a certain plot she sticks to in these two series where the male MC takes an action where he breaks up with the female MC only to regret it after leaving. Both guys were alpha males who got women without trying, then suddenly turn into a one-woman man when they meet the independent, super gorgeous but doesn’t realize it female MC who is able to stay friends with men she slept with. I guess I don’t mind it too much but originality wouldn’t hurt, either.

The unthinkable happens at the end of book two and we’re left picking up the pieces. We know that Neil’s #1 priority is space and working for NASA. This mission that he has been working towards for his whole career- going to Mars has finally happened and we watch him leave Earth, likely for 3 years if he ever comes back. We watch him fall in love with Charlotte before he leaves but never share that information since he knows that it’ll hurt her, but in return, he misses out on something amazing.

Charlotte on the other hand was damaged before this relationship and likely will be forever hurt. She’s fallen in love with Neil and makes her feelings known, knowing that he’s not able to give her what she wants in life – marriage and a family. Her first marriage ended because she was told she couldn’t have kids, so that wasn’t an issue with her future with Neil, until she learns the day before he leaves that she’s pregnant.

So we pick up book 3 watching Charlotte come to terms with being a single mom, living her life without Neil, and watching Kyle make his move. We know that all he’s ever wanted was to be with her, and it’s no surprise that he takes this opportunity to be the father that her child needs and to swoop in. It’s painful as a reader to watch this all happen because we know that Char is still very much in love with Neil, even though she knows that he won’t be back or back any time soon. So she chooses to settle. She goes for the man that she knows she loves, because he gives her the safety and support that she needs, but he’s not able to fulfill everything for her.

The story jumps bits into the future so we see Char give birth to Kingston, and then we see him grow into a 1 year old. We watch how she convinces everyone that the baby isn’t Neil’s but Kyles, and that makes our hearts hurt even more. It’s sad to think that while she feels like this is the right thing to do, it’s wrong on so many levels.

She feels vindicated though when there’s an explosion on Neil’s shuttle and comms are lost. NASA declares them dead since there haven’t been any communications in weeks, and that is what Charlotte needs to be able to move on fully with her life. She knows that Neil isn’t coming back and from there we watch this story become one of rebirth. Charlotte finds her new happiness in a life that works – it;s stable and secure and she gets the friendship and loyalty that she needs.

Until…..of course – you knew it, some how Neil manages to get the crew back to Earth and her world is in a tail spin AGAIN. She’s engaged to Kyle and yet Neil is back in the picture. She doesn’t want to break her word to Kyle, yet there’s a pull that she’s trying to fight from Neil. He doesn’t even know that he has a kid and all that adds to the complication.

You can only imagine the roller coaster of this story. How there are happy moments and heartbreak, there are lies and truths revealed left and right and there’s really no clear vision on how this will end. Will Kingston know his true father and will Neil want to be in the picture for that. What will Charlotte allow now that her live has moved into something new and different.

This is the closure that we needed but perhaps didn’t want when we saw the trajectory that they were on in the first two books. It makes you wonder if love is enough and if there’s something bigger out there that trumps love.

1. I’m predicting, before the book even starts, that Charlotte is going to let Kyle back into her life (maybe even marry him) and let him pretend to be the father of the baby.
2. Yup, I was right.
3. After Kyle was such an a$$hole in the previous book, I can’t help feeling sorry for him.
4. By 23%, I was starting to think it should have been Charlotte and Kyle all along.
5. If Charlotte had truly loved Neil, she wouldn’t have been able to transfer her feelings to Kyle so quickly.
6. Yeah, if Neil truly loved Charlotte, she would have been the first person he contacted. Instead, he was doing interviews with talk shows after he got home.
7. Neil said that Charlotte was “the person that I was most anxious to return home to” yet he didn’t even ask about her when he got home.
8. Originally, Neil said the Mars flight would take three years but when they got home, it was only two years.
9. Neil never once sent a video home to Charlotte. What did he expect???
10. Neil had absolutely no right to be so hostile to Charlotte when he told her multiple times that he didn’t have any interest in having children.
11. I got to 60% where Neil was so angry and resentful because Charlotte hadn’t told him about the baby before he left and I was just done reading about his selfish, self-absorbed attitude.

I usually write notes on my books I read, my thoughts on the book.
I have thoughts on the first two books. But my opinion changed so much throughout the books, that I’m just going to leave a review on the last one.

In the beginning I didn’t understand his desire. Thought he was selfish. And like Vic kept saying “there’s more to life”.
But then I found myself wanting him to do it.
In the end, the best way I can describe how this series made me feel is. Inspired.

His departure was so bittersweet and I’m glad it didn’t turn sour at any point. I wished he’d told her he loved her.

I thought it was very wrong to pass the baby off as Kyle’s and she should never have gotten involved with him. Wasn’t fair to him. But I’m glad he got his happy ending there. And I’m glad he knew when to bow out. Because she never would have.

Truly makes you revaluate what is important in life. And just how small we truly are.

Made me think about space. Ask questions, gather other peoples opinions and theories.

I’ve read some incredible books. I wouldn’t even class this as my favourite and yet, this book has effected me the most.

Even came full circle in the end with them getting fast food. Would have been ever better if it was a slurpee.

Yes Charlotte, you are a horrible person.

Read this to see how the story ended. Charlotte is truly awful in using Kyle just to have a man to share her life and help her raise her son. She knows she's not in love with him and that he is in love with her; it's so unnecessary because she is financially solvent and has great support from her tradwife friend Stacy and her husband, Vic, who happens to be the brother of her son's father and his biological uncle. Then there's her hiding who Kingston's father really is from them. It's all so ridiculously convoluted. Neil, the love of her life and father of her baby, is the only half decent character in the book. Vic and Stacy vacillate between telling Neil to back off and leave Charlotte alone, root for Kyle, tell Charlotte she should give Kyle a chance and then ask if she's doing the right thing being with Kyle when she loves Neil, Then encourage Neil to get back together with Charlotte. The mixed messaging should come with a warning. The misogyny is still rampant, with women being referred to as "pieces of ass" and other derogatory labels. I'm pleased Neil got his HEA even if it's with the flighty Charlotte.

"Maybe one day... we'll be what we're supposed to be." 💘 💘💘💘💘

Great conclusion to this trilogy that made me feel like my heart would surely break at some point. This love triangle was so out of the ordinary that I just couldn't imagine how matters could ever be resolved in a satisfying way. How do you root for one character over another when they all were such good people? Someone certainly has to be hurt deeply... Right? Yet all you'll wish for is that somehow, someway, everyone can find a HEA. How can it even be possible, though? And that, fellow readers, is what makes this so hard to put down. As heart wrenching as this is at times, it's also a beautiful story of love, loss, friendship, and wonderful characters that will live in your heart for a long time.

"We loved each other, but our souls were still a universe apart."

Calling all hopeless romantics... You don't want to miss this one...💘💘💘💘💘

Beautiful Conclusion

What a ride this was and such a beautiful ending to this series. I found the pace was perfect, I don’t think anyone made foolish or rash decisions, there was so much love between the characters, I’m quite sad to see them go.

Neil deployed to mars on a 3 year mission and Char is left behind pregnant and not knowing that he loved her. Having had an accident on-board their spaceship, Neil and crew have no access to NASA and are declared dead and Kyle and Char eventually become intimate. But the brilliant Neil pilots his rocket home. And what a homecoming and reunion but tensions run high. Kudos to the author for making everyone’s actions respectable and above board.

This is a great story in so many way, you have to read it. Even if it’s all fiction/BS (and you can fact check) it is so beautifully written, so educational, you can’t help but learn something

Great job!

Fate on Fire (Stars Book 3)

Finally Neil is up in space heading to Mars, A perfect send off. Down on Earth Charlotte finds that she is pregnant and Kyle has asked if he can help her with her child. Later NASA finds out that the rocket that Neil and his other astronauts had a explosion and lost contact with them. So NASA tells all their families that they think that the astronauts are all dead and then it was announced to the public. Of course Charlotte is devastated that she will never be with Neil ever again. Kyle turns to her and asks her to stay with him, thinking he has finally won her heart. Neil and the other's are alive, working hard to come back to Earth! This story was just simply amazing to read. It had everything in it that you need for a awesome story. But, you will want to read this delicious story for yourself to find out what really happened between all of them! ENJOY!!!

It was good but…

I don’t think they’re spoilers but just in case…

Maybe spoilers ahead:

I loved the angst but haaaated that the best friend and husband got in the business and had too many opinions about Charlotte’s love life. They disregarded Charlotte’s feelings about Neil and kept pushing Kyle. Like let her make her own decisions and keep your opinions out of it. Who cares if someone wants to be hung up on someone that may or may not be attainable. People change. Kyle, Kyle, Kyle. And then the whole well… you did say you love Neil, are you sure Kyle is what you want? Shut up. Ugh and then Charlotte just going along with things that were so stupid. I’ll let you figure out what I’m talking about. Like I said I loved the angst, the HEA and the story telling. It was refreshing to read a story of substance. I might not have liked it all but there depth to it.

O my! E. L. Todd is another favorite author of mine! It's been a while since I read "Love On Fire" that I had actually forgot about this series! SORRY!!! But extremely excited when I received the e-mail.
To get back to this series, it was a great story to tell about an astronaut and the woman he fell so hard for. I felt like I was in that story. It was so well written. I love books that I can get so lost in for a while. I wanted to ring both Neil's and Kyle's neck for being stupid. Then I wanted to tell Charlotte to keep waiting...lol. But so happy the way that it ended for everyone involved. Can't wait to see what else this author has in store for the next series! I absolutely love this series!

Yahoo, hang on for a crazy ride with Char, Neil and Kyle.

I gotta tell you, I sat on the edge of my seat during all 3 books. Things with Neil and Char went back and forth so many times I lost count. I really thought that things were headed in a different direction here in book 3, and I could not have been more wrong. I absolutely loved the people in this book. Char was such a rock star given everything she was faced with. Neil was a changed man, and if hadn’t already loved him in the beginning, I was totally in love with him by the end. And then we have Kyle. What’s not to love about this guy? He was like theee perfect guy. I stayed up half the night to finish and am so glad I did.

WOW !!

This 3 book set is the best romance/ drama that I've read in a couple of years. The love story runs deep and so sincerely. The author makes you feel like your getting a front row seat to these peoples lives. Their happiness, sadness, desires, fear and hope. Oh , yes, there's heat . Plenty of 🔥🔥🔥. Enough to keep you interested but not eewwww. Save the eeeww for other books, thank you. Anyway you'll sigh and cry in these books. Book number 2 had me using kleenex (be warned). Book number 3 will throw you off your intuitive game, so to speak. I seriously liked these books and will definitely read more from E.L. Todd !!

I have waited for this book for what feels like a journey to and from Mars. E.L. Todd did not disappoint me. ❤ She kept me on pins and needles for quite some time. Then my imagination got the best of me, and I began to write the story, and fear my thoughts. Thankfully E.L. did not go down the road of my twisted brain, because I would've died! It's bad enough I cried several times.
This book was beautiful! I loved it!!!! I want more! Please say you will write a follow up book. There has to be more. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful ending to an emotional ride

This last book did not disappoint! I devoured this book in one sitting straight after finishing book 2, I just couldn't get enough of Char and Neil! Just like the 2nd book this is another rollercoaster of emotions, but with more bumps, some shocks, and definitely some twists! This story made a change from the usual teacher student, age gap, enemy to lovers etc, it was such a good read! The whole series is a definite recommendation 👌

liked the concept but the dialogue was lame

I didn’t totally blow this up because I really did like the idea of the story. What I hated was the grade school, teenage like dialogue between the characters. How many times do you have to say “he could get *ussy anywhere? Really that’s how astronauts talk? I know a lot of lab techs (not lab scientists) and they are smart thoughtful people but they don’t focus on all the *ussy. These characters were shallow and deserved much more depth and some actual funny clever dialogue.

fabulous

This is the second series by E.L Todd that I’ve read. I was afraid it’d be a remake of the other trilogy, but this was so much better.

The characters’ connections were real, it was easy to understand their thought process and why they did things. It made me cry and laugh, even made me angry at times.

I loved Neil and Charlotte’s relationship because it was clearly more than physical. Reading their conversations and interest in each other was like falling in love along with them.

All in all I loved it.

I was very anxious waiting for this final chapter to be released and I was not disappointed. The direction the story took wasn't what I had expected, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. My only complaint throughout the series was the repetition of facts that had already been mentioned several times before. An occasional repeat is ok, but not to the extent that I noted here. Thankfully this didn't detract from the storyline. I highly recommend this book and series.

Loved the first two books in this series, Neil and Charlotte's story was captivating in the first two books. While this book gave us our happily ever after to me it did not read as well as the others. I will continue to read her other series, however I will make sure all of the books are published before I do. Having to wait so long for book 3 of The Stars series I lost the connection to books 1 and 2.

Stars book series

I finally finished all three books. I really enjoyed all three there was a great story line with all kinds of drama. The one issue I had was how the time was referenced within the book. Example it would say months went by but then how the author talked it was like only weeks. So that was a bit confusing but I was still able to follow the story it just seemed weird. Definitely recommend because this is a good author.

good storytelling.

I don’t like series. I’m a one and done person. I enjoyed the characters and their banner and affection for one another. The depth of this book comes from enlightenment of Neil. I actually didn’t like the character Kyle and his stalker behavior. He had so much going for him but was stuck on stupid. I believe women and men can be friends. His behavior was unhealthy.

A truly exceptional series of 3 books!!!

I highly recommend this series of novels!. The author created characters with heart. The story line gripped me from 1st book and continued throughout the series. The dialogue so real, it was like I was listening in on real people laughing, crying and loving. It's sexy too! Truly well done E.L. Todd. I look forward to reading all your other books.

Oh Boy!!

I had so many emotions going on with this story. Charlotte pregnant, Neil on Mars and Kyle rushing in! I sort understood Charlotte’s worries, but Kyle seemed a little sleazy, jumping in right after a Neil left. His being Johnny on the spot made me mad. Then New Neil Is dead, now I’m mad again. But it all came together with hurt feelings and all. Loved it!!!

Wow, so glad we finally have the end to this series. Yes, it has been a year since book 1 released and I had to go back and refresh my memory on where we were in the first two books. This book was so unexpected and I didn’t know how things would turn out for Charlotte, Neil and Kyle. All I can say is that it was worth the wait and such a unique series.

Worth the money and the time to read it

Two story's for the price of one . Good storylines and the second book leaves off with a little cliffhanger to hook you for the next series. I'm not a fan of authors using like names in a story only because it can become confusing especially if you listen to the book . The second book had to many R named characters

❤️🚀.

I loved Neil from the first. He screwed up but owned it when get got back. I loved Kyle also but I knew he was right. Charlotte was trying to protect her heart but was really hurting it more.

I loved reading how they all worked through it and moved forward. It wasn’t easy on any of them. Great book. Great series.
