Sergeant First Class Remington Clemson is praying that his latest assignment in battalion operations is going to be his ticket to the promotion list. He just needs a break after the last deployment and the fallout from the investigation into the rogue platoon. Rem hadn’t been on the ground when they lost their collective mind, but the entire company felt the wrath of the commanders. If he could get the images he saw out of his mind, then maybe he could give up the alcohol.
Noah Mullvaney grew up a military brat watching his father and “uncles” deploy regularly. His mom made every house a home, but he remembers his mother’s stress with his father overseas and all he brought home with him. Losing part of his hearing from a ruptured eardrum made Noah’s life a bit more of a struggle each time they moved. He’s hoping that getting his masters at Gallaudet, will help him move beyond the little boy with hearing problems to someone that can help children like him.
When two men on different paths that are fighting to gain acceptance meet, will their individual fights push them apart or make them stronger…together?

Wow, I just finished this and I’m crying a mixture of happy and sad tears. A powerful story of a deaf man, Noah, mid-twenties, one of the many folks and family from the heptad and crews. He’s finishing his degree to be able to teach and help deaf children. Sergeant Rem, 31, had a bad deployment that tortures him still, plus the bullying and abuse he’s taking now from some superior officers. Noah and Rem meet and begin dating.
They have some sexy times and get to know each other. When Rem spends time with Noah’s family including the heptad, he has an attack, a flashback, and huddled on the floor. The men take care of him and get him the help he needs. Noah stays in his life, waiting for him. Other problems at the base are dealt with also.
Later, Noah is attacked, fights for his life, but ends up hospitalized, very frightening.
The story is really gripping, powerful, important and gut-wrenching, plus we see love, care, acceptance and deep dedication.
Highly recommend this series, and each story. Tissues required. We get to see justice. Enjoy !
One thing I have to say first of all, is if you ever read a true military story, even if it’s fiction, you’re going to have possible triggers. And there are some in this. Homophobia, manipulation, a mission gone horribly wrong and it’s partially described, PTSD, nightmares, attacks and such. So please be careful when reading it. It can get a little hairy at times. Noah loves his family more than life itself, but having only partial hearing due to a problem when he was 3, has left his family a little more than overbearing at times. And he’s ready for a chance to be on his own for a bit. But even on his own, he’s really not on his own because there’s some kind of family somewhere close by. When he goes by to visit his cousin for a break, he meets the most beautiful man he’s ever seen. They begin talking and things seem to be going well for a bit. Until an incident over Thanksgiving truly shows how much help Rem needs after his last deployment. And how much bullying he’s been taking on a daily basis. And he begs Noah to wait for him while he gets his head on straight. But Noah doesn’t realize how much in trouble he’s in as well, when someone who has been stalking him, makes his move. And he’s hoping he can live to truly see Rem come home. This was a tough one. What Rem had to deal with, no one should have been put through. It was completely uncalled for and totally untrue. But because they knew Rem was gay, they were going to do all they could to make Rem’s life miserable. And they were succeeding. Even when Rem didn’t realize they were doing it. But one thing I loved about Rem from the beginning, is that Rem didn’t see Noah as a disabled person or someone that should be handled like glass. He treated Noah like a normal person. Like he still mattered, no matter what illness he may have had or still has. And for Noah, he’s perfect for Rem because Noah knows what it’s like to be in a military family and gets what Rem needs, to a point. Some things a civilian can’t totally help with, but he knew enough to get Rem down from the edge. And with his wonderful family, Rem was now accepted and had the back up and support he needed to get through all he needed to. And for Rem, it was the best things he could have ever had. Like I said, there are some very rough moments in here. They get a little graphic to a point. So be careful if something is a trigger. But this whole series has been a blast to read and I’m glad I got the chance to.
I've followed this series from the beginning and can honestly say there isn't a single book I didn't enjoy (even if they needed a box of Kleenex on hand). Rem and Noah are definitely no exception. Watching them work through their personal issues, both on their own and together. Through their abilities to grow and change, they made each other and their relationship stronger. If you enjoy military romances, this series is definitely for you. I'm always blown away by the expertise this author has when writing military characters and experiences. Her ability to make me fall in love with her characters, over and over again, is one of the reasons her books are re-reads for me. I love Mackey and Scott from book 1 just as much today as I did when it came out and getting to see them as well as the rest of the Heptad/Civ/Mil crews is another highlight for this book.
If this is the end of the series, it could not have been a better couple, better plot line, or better dynamics between all the extended members of the Heptad.
Confession: I DNF Book #6 because it just did not seem to be coordinated and it was all over the place. However, based on what I did read, I did not miss anything important because Noah and Rem fit right into the scheme of things "With Me" from the start.
This is a wonderful coupling, read the blurb. What I really appreciated was that during a couple of really serious diversions to the romantic build up, one or the other goes through a deep crisis and author Jacen does not bog us down in those details but rather summarizes them beautifully in the follow-up chapters. To say anything otherwise would be a spoiler.
Thank you Ms. Jacen for a wonderful idea, wonderful characters, wonderful writing, and wonderful ending.
Rem and Noah were another gorgeous couple. Poor Rem, it shows the lack of support some people get in the army. It is all not Mills & Boons.
I had a hard time with Noah’s bashing and Rem not being told, then it was over with. Thats why it got three stars.
The series was brilliant, but like another person said why was it only hetro couples having kids, Jack by default. The ones that did not have kids were the best with kids, so many ways gay and lesbian couples can have kids. That was a bit sad.
Rem and Noah met in the office of Noah's cousin who is in the military. Rem is in the army and Rem is hard of hearing. When Rem and the rest of the platoon are invited on a team building exercise they meet again. Due to deployments Rem has terrible memories that emerge at night. This story was so beautiful and gives a small insight to the military.
I enjoyed this story only thing wrong it finished to early, but thank you Kris any way. Loved the characters and the great they had for extended family. Once again thank you.
