In a world destroyed by war, angel and fae fight over the humans who are left...
Xander I’m used to getting anything I want. Power. Fame. Women. It’s all mine, but boredom has set in after five hundred years as the Fae King and ruling mankind. She’s the only thing that excites me. She’s forbidden, but that won't stop me from making her mine.
Gabriella I’ve trained all my life for this moment. My ascension—to gain my wings and join the Celestial Royals. Only, the Fae King had other plans. He ruined everything when he crashed the party and kidnapped me. He thinks this is all a game. My life. My purity. My purpose. I have to escape him or everyone I love will die. For if I don’t ascend, the world will fall into chaos, and sin will reign on earth. Knowing the Fae King, that was his plan all along.
Captured by the Fae King is Book 1 in a slow burn Paranormal Romance Series. This book contains sexual situations, strong language, and violence.
Of course, the only book I come across where the main character has the same name as mine turns out to be a total disappointment. Not to mention that the MC is dumb as a rock.
"A male had a sword of flesh. One that can be used against me, to take away my purity." LMAO what is this?! You know what, I don't care and I want to forget the things I read. I'll just pretend I didn't know about this book's existence.
This is my first time reading/listening to Jennifer Thorn and listening to both Kale Williams and Cassandra Myles. A book friend recommended this one to me since I'm always looking for new authors and narrators and I love fantasy genre.
I love the world building in this Angels vs Fae book. At first you get Gabriella's viewpoint as a Pure, who is Ascending to save her family and humans from the Fae. Then the author introduces Xander, the Fae King who's bored after living centuries and nothing interests him until he sees Gabriella. I appreciated that there was a spark between the MC but it played a smaller role to the bigger picture. I liked the build up of attraction on Gabriella's part which started out as hatred/distrust/disgusting of the Fae and their Xander.
It's not a new storyline but I did really enjoy how she built this story slowly and let it simmer until all the ingredients started to mingle and boil at the end. I really don't like cliffhangers even though she ended this book in the perfect way that leaves the reader anticipating what happens next!
I really hope its not too long of a wait for book 2 on audio and that she continues with both Cassandra and Kale.
Kale has this really unique, smoky quality to his voice that drew me in. Cassandra has a beautiful cadence to her voice and I'm looking forward to listening to more of both of them!
Once again I am sucked into another series! But it is completely worth it.
I originally had high expectations for this book, having read many but Thorn by now. I knew what to expect. However it was better than expected! The world building is fantastic as always. The characters are well thought out and so detailed. The story is original which in this day and age is a bit hard to do.
The story did not live up to the cover. If you like a quick-ish story with a slow burn "romance" with very little spice until the very end then this is perfect for you. I was looking for full on spice and this just wasn't for me. The story itself was just eh... nothing "fae" about it, seemed more demons vs. angels and that would have felt better.
An amazing story which casts doubts on who you think are the good guys and who are the bad😜 Gabriella has been groomed as The Pure, to be sacrificed to save humanity by being the Archangel’s bride, when she is kidnapped on her Ascension Day by the Fae King himself🤩 The Fae King has a plan which has been 500 years in the making, however, his reaction to The Pure might destroy everything he’s planned😢
A story worth reading and I can’t wait to see what happens in Book Two😍 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
Well this was definitely not your average angel and fae book. I really enjoyed reading this book and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. There seems like there is going to be hell to pay and I'm not sure the Fae King will make it out with his heart and soul in tack.
Wonderful and well written story by Jennifer Thorn. Characters and storyline were fantastic. This one was a great start to a new series. This one grabbed my attention right away. Definitely a recommended story. You will love reading about Gabriella. Again loved this story and can’t wait for more.
This read like a promising first draft. Wanted to like it but the FMC while a sheltered "savior" was annoying and naive. MMC was okay but the interactions with FMC was stilted. The world building was lackluster and the language, oy! I've never read ennui so many times in one book.
Not really an uncommon theme in the world of PNR, we have a female character who was raised under very strict, very protected rules. She’s generally naive outside of the small world she knows, which has raised her to be the Pure, the next bride of the Archangel, who will save humans from mass sacrifice and death with her own ascension. The world is basically angels versus fae, and the humans are kind of stuck in the middle of it all, being a resource needed by both sides to fuel their magic and vitality. As far as the humans know, the fae are evil, and the angels saved and continue to protect them. On the other side, the fae, who are growing more and more bored with their long lives, especially Xander, the King of the Fae, are very interested in the Pure who is about to ascend, as it has been a long time since the last Pure ascended.
There are many questions posed throughout, some which we don’t get an answer to by the end of the book (it’s the start of a series, so I wouldn’t expect to). When the fae successfully abduct Gabriella (the Pure) and bring her back to Xander’s castle, it triggers the brink of war between angels and fae. She is determined to return to the angels and maintain her Pure status so she can fulfill her destiny, but Xander intrigues her. There is an ongoing question about what actually makes her Pure, is it moral, is it physical, is it something else? Xander pushes the limits to test his questions on this, and Gabriella is basically along for the ride as she is drawn to him. As truths about history and their lives come to light, things become even more confusing for Gabriella. She’s not really uneducated or unintelligent, but she is definitely naive, and that really comes back to bite her by the end of the story.
There’s a decent amount of world building happening in this book, so it does tend to move a bit slower at times, but I think that this additional information will likely become useful as the series continues. There is definitely a cliffhanger style ending, although to be honest, I’m not sure who’s side I’m on. I think I feel more for Xander at this point, because Gabriella’s naïveté and refusal to admit some truths have caused her situation. At the same time, Xander did his best to help her make her own decisions, but at the same time didn’t really give her the total picture - but was there a reason he couldn’t? That’s unclear. Regardless, the next book is sure to be filled with revenge and a decent amount of steam. I’m also curious to see how the angels can spin all this to make themselves look good here, because in the end, they really do look like the bad guys.
FINALLY. It took me a while to secure a copy of this via one of my local libraries and I’d been dying for it!
Is it worth the wait? Yes, yes it is! This went FAST, between just an intriguing world, witty characters, lots of tensions between races, and action and heartache and so much happening … it’s an extremely fun read and I’m dying for the next book.
I particularly enjoyed the portrayal of angels as evil and corrupt, it was well done and added more fun to the read.
I recommend this read. 4 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Audio: Wow! Kale has a super sexy voice and he just performs really well. He fits as Xander and gets the attitude across really well. Cassandra does a pretty good job as well and is pleasant enough to listen to.
No 2nd book. I wanted to read this book, and then I saw reviews that said this book ends on a cliffhanger. No big deal. i go to check if/when the next book comes out....and there is no book 2. I'm fine with books ending on cliff hangers and having to wait for the next book, but the 1st book was published in Feb 2021, and there's nothing about the next book (other than there is suposed to be a 2nd book. I checked Google, Amazon, and her website, and nothing. She's working on other books but not a follow-up to this one.
He never lies to her about who he is or what he is.. He starts off as a anti hero but turns sweet and understanding towards the middle and then suddenly the circumstances push him to be abrupt with her just after making her his. Gabrielle feels cheated and the story ends in that standstill . I think I should have waited still all the books in this series are out.. but I was entertained while it lasted.
It was a very slow start. Almost DNFed until I got to the first garden scene. I'm disappointed that the next book doesn't exist anymore for some reason. I have contacted the author and hope to hear back soon.
💣💣ONE SPECTACULAR ADVENTURE💣💣 Burning biscuits boo! Jennifer never ceases to amaze with her immense talent, unique insight and extremely impressive gift that continually blows me away, delivering up some fervent facts, delectable choices and brutal tactics, launching this bad boy to new heights. Hurled into a vicious minefield full of riveting drama, gripping intrigue, underlying currents, brutal tactics, cruel deeds, spiraling danger, electrifying suspense and nailbiting encounters converge, noting the heartrending struggles and titillating triumphs, while attentive to the perilous twists and shocking turns unfolding, broken barriers and paltry perimeters solidify as determination soars, wrapping this little number up sleek, shiny and tight. The raw magnetism, undeniable attraction and scorching chemistry ignites with such intoxicating intensity, exploding with boundless emotions and infinite affection, drawing our characters closer, uniting them together perfectly. The characters, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Fabulous job Jennifer, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
How fantastic to have a fae based story that's original. in parts really intriguing, other parts were kind of roll your eyes in classic heteronormative take on relationships.
And you know you have your classic guy who's 500 years plus getting together with a girl who's a virgin under 20. one who seems to know exactly what she should be doing when it comes to all the spicy bits.
where it fell flat for me was the undertones of religiosity. but that's just me and that's not something I like so I'm not going to detract from my star rating for it. but the whole concept of purity is something that really needs to hit the dust.
Kale Williams has such an excellent voice as a narrator that I'm now going to seek out his other stories just to hear the voice again.
Cassandra Myles I did not enjoy as much. it felt very one note and all her characters sounded the same. even with the "russian" accent.
the one thing I did find odd was how there is a very graphic detailed sex scene in the beginning of the book that has campy undertones of Star Trek / fiction and then the scene at the end felt like it was written by somebody else. but of a disconnect there. but overall how fun to enjoy something unexpected and the whole aspect of technology while kind of annoying, was interesting and unique
I'm looking forward to the next book or books in this series.
"Past 7%... hold on! Arranged marriage, enemies to lovers plus a forbidden romance with the promise of spicy scenes?! YES!!! I'd the right story!!! Everything was going perfect and suddenly HUGE surprise!!! Did I mention mention loved Xanders POV? *heartily eyes*
Darkness was my home, Chaos was my soul, can he be more perfect?
Wait! By chapter 9 everything it was out of control!!! But chapter 19, the slow burn was killing me LOL but Gabriella was also frustrating me with her 'I'm pure, this is a single. Seriously girl? So I cant say I didn't LOVED when she found the truth about the purity of angels *ha ha* 82%... my poor King! I wanted to hug him.
Things weren't exactly as I thought at first but ended up being being great story. That Xander's epilogue, sweet things for that! It was perfection!!!I wanted it to never end. And suddenly NOOO a huge turn again! Not a cliffhanger but those words killed me. I'm so dying for the next part!
AND I just discovered the author also has RH stories!!! Yes! I want it all."
Xander has been the King of the Fae for 500 years and by now everything is boring. His biggest challenge has been keeping enough healthy humans in his territories. For some reason they helped strengthened the Fae Court. But he is show a a live video of a woman who has qualities that grab his attention, nothing has done that in so many years, he must have her. Gabriella has been destined to be Pure , to someday wed the Archangel, even though something didn't seem right about it. But when she is kidnapped , she is confused by all that happens. I've never read anything about Angels against Fae before but I really enjoyed this book. We have good and evil but are we sure which one is which. No spoilers from me but things are going to get hot one way or another. But you'll have to read book 2 and find out more.
This was marvelous. Very interesting and kept me jumping several times. Gabriella have only her faith. Prayers and light is all that she knew all her life. Till the day he had captured her, at the most glorious moment of her life. Or was it? She is pure and was fed lies all her life. He is sin, always planning something, but at least he don’t lie to her, he does hide some informations, but never lie. He opened her eyes, shown things she would never believe could be true. At the end she made her decision, she lost a lot by doing so, more than she was ready to, still lost in imagination of her faith. It was a beautiful story of believing and searching deep within to uncover the truth. And truth is never as we expect it to be.
(Amy) This is a delightfully quick paced read, full of excitement, magic, Fae and Angels. FMC Gabriella is caught in the middle between an age-long war of angels and Fae. MMC Fae King Zander is …bored… and sees Gabriella, the Angels’ human representation of purity, as an opportunity to stir up some trouble.
I really liked the world that Jennifer Thorn creates - especially that there are no clear good guys and bad guys, apart from Gabriella, whose naivety keeps her more or less on the ‘good’ side of the spectrum.
This book was exactly what I needed after some heavy reading! I listened to the audiobook, and enjoyed the duet performance of Cassandra Myles and Kale Williams. I really felt the ennui of the Fae king that was perfectly captured by Kale Williams.
Gabriella is about to ascend and become an angel as well as the bride to be to the archangel when she is is kidnapped by the Fae King. Gabriella has her faith and her prayers in the angels. She has been sheltered since and trained she was a baby to ascend. It is all she knows. The Fae King has been ruling for over 500 years and she is the first person he feels any sort of emotion for. Can he get her to see the truth on what she will sacrifice if she goes back to the angels? Or will she choose him?
This far romance adventure was such fun to read. The world building was phenomenal and I adored the world that Jennifer Thorn has created. It's full of wonder as you read all the details and you can really picture each scene in your head. The characters were well balanced and really likable. The romance was lovely and I enjoyed every aspect of the relationship building and changing. The plot was solid and kept me engaged right from the start. If you live far stories, this book will have you smiling from ear to ear. Can't wait to see what happens next!
I recieved an arc copy in return for an honest review.
Another great addition for this author! This new book is steamy, fast paced, and left me reeling! I loved the main characters, the intricacies of the fae and angels culture, and I can't wait for the next one. I especially loved the fae king as an anti hero character trope who falls for the innocent maiden.... it never gets old. Truly different from other angelic or fae stories I've read.
What happens when you learn your entire life has been a carefully cultivated lie? Follow the story as one innocent, sheltered woman learns a devastating truth and possibly discovers a new world. The choice is ultimately hers... Will she choose the right path? Angels and far take center stage in this fascinating tale, but are not what you've come to believe all your life. A page turning read filled with suspense, prophecy and so much more!
I'm usually not a big fan of paranormal romance. So even though it started slow and it's not my typical genre I just couldn't put it down. I'm assuming I liked it so much because of the unusual conflict between Fae and angels. I thoroughly enjoyed learning just who the angels really are behind the veil and that Gabriella finally was revealed the truth. I can't wait to see where the next book takes her Xander and the rest of the world they live.
The idea of angels versus Fae. The sacrifice of a Pure human who can wash away the sin of the angels...... this was a story of truly original ideas for me.
The characters are well fleshed. The plot was superb. The ending was..... enticing and maddening with leaving me begging for more.
The bounce between Gabriella and Xander helped you see things from both sides in a way that truly enhanced the story. I can't wait to enjoy book two
Found this book at LoveNVegas and this author's covers for nearly every other book were GORGEOUS (this one isn't bad, it just wasn't the stand out of the table). I chose this one specifically because I wanted to try her non Why Choose fantasy romance. I feel like I have a better gauge for that as I read it more frequently.
This was an enjoyable read. Interesting paranormal world. I would like to read a sequel. Will definitely be reading some more books by this author.
