High Points.
Juli. The entire Baker clan! Why don’t all YA characters have fun families?! Authors, you’re missing a trick! Bryce (eventually). Chest. Front yards. Eggs. Chickens. Basket boys. Pie. Girls with iron backbones. Tree climbing. Newspaper articles. “There’s a bee in her hair, stupid.” Paintings. The sum of all parts. Mystery Pisser. Science projects. Retractable pointers. Champ. Boys who smell of watermelons. “Proper lighting is everything”. Sycamore trees.
Low Points.
Even though I adored this book, I would have liked to have seen Bryce and Juli’s reactions be drawn out for a bit longer. This book was so short and it didn’t exactly feel rushed but I think it would have been really fun to see how both Bryce and Juli felt about each other when they were in high school.
Also, this is definitely because I’m a Brit and, after god knows how long I’ve been watching/reading American high school stories, I still have no idea about the schooling system.
Middle school? Grades? Sophomores? GRADUATION AT 18?!?!
So, with that in mind, I did get a bit confused as to how old these kids were.
But I still loved it, even if it did make me, you know, think a bit. *shudders*

I wish Juli would be my best friend. We would go climbing trees and we’d do the gardening and I could watch her as she tended to the chickens while standing at a safe distance because birds make me twitchy.
And then we’d drink juice and talk about perpetual motion and science projects and then we’d turn, as one, and scowl at any dazzle-eyed boys who dared come near us.
Sure she was a little bit crazy when it comes to said dazzle-eyed boys but, well, even the best of us can get momentarily distracted by a boy who smells like watermelon.

My friend, in the first few chapters I just wanted to throttle you. OK, maybe not throttle you, but push you off your bike so you landed into some nettles or something.
You were so cruel and blind and, yes, you were a chicken.

P.s: I have Both,Read and watched flipped...But in my opinion the movie was utterly charming ! I'm glad I watched it first so it was much easier to visualize the sences from the book :)

Reread: June 1st 2018
Rereading Flipped for the third time. I will never get tired reading this book. After all these years, I'm still in love with Bryce and Juli's story. It was unforgettable and their romance still gave me butterflies. A love so pure and innocent. It never gets old and I love it. 😍❤️ My forever favorite ❤️❤️❤️❤️🐥 I have to say this is one of the most underappreciated YA books. It deserves the hype, one hundred and ten percent ☑️💁🏻

I'm proudly obsessed with this book and this has a special place in my heart. I don't know how many times I've read or watched the movie (nth time), I can't remember but it's absolutely good and I still flipped all over it. Definitely one of the Best Book to Movie Adaptation of All Time and I'm dead serious.
I highly recommend this book to everyone. If you haven't read this, you better read it because you're missing a good contemporary romance. It's so damn adorable.

When I first watched it online, it reminds me of my elementary days of having a crush just like Julianna Baker. I flipped when I saw that guy whom I really liked when I was in 6th grade.(But I didn't stalked him) :) ahahaha!
At first, Bryce Loski hated Juli ( in a way he was really annoyed at her), But Juli likes Bryce so much, then.. it flipped! :D Bryce then likes Juli, and Juli ignores Bryce. I just love it! It's cute and it's really an essence of a true teenage love story. It's so beautiful. It may happen in real life, you'll never know.
Totally recommended for everyone. :)

Un aplauso para esta pareja que está enamorada 😭
Vaya, que puedo decir. Este libro es un romance juvenil bastante completo, adorable y entretenido.
Tenemos la perspectiva de Bryce, que desde pequeño ha visto en su padre un modelo a seguir, hasta que descubre lo contrario.
Y por otro lado tenemos a Juli, una niña con ganas de aventura, muchos sueños y una familia que la apoya para conseguirlos.
Un contraste bastante interesante que da paso al AMOOOOOR. ¡Y es que ella se enamoró primero, pero el se enamoró más fuerte!
Gran desarrollo de personajes, buena estructura y sobretodo, un gran mensaje. Además fue una lectura rápida y ligera
La motivación para leerlo fue que la película me gustó mucho. Me sorprendió que aun sabiendo el final, los nervios me tenían todo inquieto jaja
Léanlo, y si les da flojera… vean la peli porque está idéntica 🫶

Flipped is not just a story about first love. It's more like a touching and heartwarming YA book for teenagers, teaching them about kindness and beauty. It's a story about growth.
The plot is pretty simple: during the summer break, Bryce, who has moved to a new home, meets Juli. When she sees Bryce's eyes for the first time, Juli is instantly captivated. So for the next 5 years, she follows Bryce's every move, her heart drawn to him. Initially, Bryce finds Juli’s constant presence irritating, but with the guidance of his grandfather, he begins to appreciate her unique qualities. His feelings gradually evolve from annoyance to uncertainty, culminating in a newfound love for the extraordinary Julie.
The book is told from the perspectives of both a boy and a girl, vividly depicting the different views and feelings of boys and girls towards the same or different events. It playfully expresses the differences in male and female thinking, and allows us to feel the pure, innocent love between young boys and girls.
In my memories of youth, besides exam scores, crushes, fights between boys, and girls' gossip, there aren't many tragic things happening. Everyone grows up smoothly, waking up at 6 in the morning and going to bed at 9 at night, living carefree lives. Back then, we would hide our earphones in our uniforms to listen to mp3, discuss which team, Manchester or Liverpool, is better, and tease each other when classmates were rumored to be dating. From Flipped, I felt the warmth, beauty, simplicity, and sincerity that I once experienced. This is probably the biggest reason why I recommend this book with 4 stars; it's full of memories.
I like the description of Juli’s mother: she is a "symbol of perseverance." The tall, fruitless maple tree is probably Juli’s core. She is persistent, kind, and beautiful. I think it's because of this maple tree that a seed of kindness was planted in Bryce's heart. After filtering out contradictions, doubts, and impurities, it can finally take root and grow into a towering tree.
While Bryce's superficial and hypocritical father was undoubtedly a negative influence, his wise and kind grandfather served as a guiding light. He helped to nurture the purity within Bryce's heart. Despite Bryce's attempts to avoid confronting his problems, he consistently presented him with challenges. As Juli aptly observed, Bryce's cowardice prevented him from fully embracing Julie's pure soul, overcoming societal expectations, and remaining true to himself. These internal conflicts caused him significant pain. However, his grandfather offered reassurance, reminding him that he was not beyond hope and that he should persevere. Gradually, Bryce navigated through the darkness, gaining self-understanding and a deeper appreciation for others, and ultimately, the beauty that surrounds him.
Juli, is the little girl that could always see the true nature of others. However, her initial infatuation with Bryce prevented her from seeing him clearly. Good thing is that: as time passes by, she was able to see beyond his handsome appearance and bright eyes to understand his true self. Likewise, Bryce, after much introspection, began to understand both Julie and himself, leading to a personal transformation. I think a person's growth and change takes time. Perhaps it's not Julie's kindness and beauty that changed him, but love. Julie's love for the world, Julie's love for him.
The ending is a heartwarming reminder that growth and maturity take time, and I’m glad to see Bryce grew up. Some people may have ordinary appearances, while others are glamorous and dazzling... But you'll always meet some people who radiate rainbow-like light from the inside out. Once you've met them, others will seem like mere clouds to you. I think Bryce finally understands this.

Edit : I just watched the movie and it was SO FREAKING CUTE! ❤
Please don't laugh. Or do. I DON'T CARE. I'm just gonna smile like a big moron all day.
► Don't you ever want to say "this is JUST me!" and then realize that maybe, just maybe, you'd better keep your mouth shut because it might change how people see you? Yeah? Because that's what I feel right now.

▧ Juli is just like me! Like I was, anyway.
The girl can't take a no for an answer? ✔
The girl can't take a hint? ✔
The girl is an annoying, know-it-all prep pupil? ... ✔
The girl can be clingy as hell when she decided that that boy was amazing? Hmm ...
Okay give me a break, this was me from 6 to 13. Fortunately I learnt in high school that if you didn't chase boys, they chased you. But that's another story.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this : in my honest opinion Juli has such a refreshing, believable and relatable voice that I couldn't help but love her from the very beginning. She is clingy, annoying as fuck, yes, but loyal, funny, daring and did I say that she was relatable? Yeah? I think I suggested it. Somehow. No?
▧ Moreover, her family was a real breath of fresh air - especially her parents, who were - wait for it - present (I know, astounding) and in my opinion they share great morals and values, without never being moralizing. Oh, and Bryce's granddad?
Best. Human. Yoda. Ever. (or something)
▧ Bryce now. Oh, Bryce. What an amazing evolution you showed us! From the judgmental (but hilarious) little boy who's afraid of Juli (yes, I said afraid, deal with it boy!) to the ... Well, a little less afraid teenager? Now, let's face it, he was really believable. I remember my baby brother being teased about a (girl) friend he had in elementary school - he hated that. Like, hated-hated it (he remembers). So, the "Juli and Bryce are kissing in a treeeeeee"? Yep. I can understand. Anyway, I loved how we get to see the slow changes in his personality and found them gradual and believable.
▧ The chapters are organized in alternative POV, and we basically get the same events related first by one of them and then by the other one. Frankly, whilst I found often interesting to see how the same events could be perceived differently (really, really, differently, trust me), it was tiring at times and I had to stop me from skimming some parts. I mean, I see what the author is trying to do and it's a success most of the time but it's difficult for the story not to drag.
Oh, but maybe you want me to talk about the plot? Yes? At first sight, it seems pretty simple :
✘ Girl meets Boy (at 7)
✘ Girl is obsessed with Boy
✘ Boy tries to escape Girl's attention...
... a very long time.
✘ Boy realizes that Girl is pretty great, in fact
End of story? Hahahaha NO.
✘ Because Girl gave up on him on the road.
"All my life she'd been there, waiting to be avoided, and now it was like I didn't even exist"
▧ I loved this story. It was exactly the good level of cuteness and laughter without never being cheesy. For real, that's one of the first time where a book is making me want to see a movie (apparently its' really famous? Lmao, I ask because I have almost no movie knowledge. Not that kind of movie anyway).
▧ This book is young-adult but on the middle-grade side, and I know it will stop a lot of readers, because we're all grown-up and all that stuff, but under the fluffy cute layers, what we find are questions about difference, appearances, judgments : why do we like people? How our parents' or friends' opinion can influence us? Are we always looking at the bigger picture? (no) To be frank, I was ridiculously impressed and surprised to see how meaningful this story could be. How endearing and moving.
▧ While I could understand Bryce's reactions (okay, Juli can be a little overwhelming - emphasis on overwhelming, not on little. Well really, I only wrote little to be nice. Kind of. Oh, whatever) Juli shows so much kindness to him that even though I was mostly smiling throughout my read, I suddenly reached a point where I found myself the stomach in knots because the bastard didn't want her eggs.
▧ All that is to say that if the entertaining side of the story is obvious from the start, trust me, the story has more layers than it appears and manage to feel so real at some point that you can't help but feel involved, you can't help but care. Deeply.
"I tried to convince the kids at the bus stop to climb up with me, even a little ways, but all of them said they didn't want to get dirty. Turn down a chance to feel magic for fear of a little dirt? I couldn't believe it"
► This book made me so happy, I would recommend it to everyone : you, teenagers, adults who want to smile - yes, it's a middle-grade book. So what? Do you think that New Adult is deeper? I don't.

I don't know where to start to talk about this book but first of all, I want to tell you that this book changed my life. I will never be the same anymore and I'm not being exaggerated. I'm going to tell you this now :
few months ago, I had a crush that I liked so much and he's older than me. he's 19 years old and I'm 18 years old and we started getting to know each other and I thought he was sweet and he's pretty cute and pretty handsome so yes, I was attracted to him and that time I felt like I was falling in love so we chatted through our phones until past midnight for a few days and then I realized that the more we chatted, the more I realized that I was the only one who fought for him and I tried to talk about everything so our conversation would always go on but he didn't do the same for me so by the time I realized that he didn't feel the same for me and I was the only one who fought for him, I felt heartbroken and he also made me feel worthless, So I stopped trying to make our conversation long because I was just so tired for fighting for him alone and we finally stopped chatting each other.
a few months passed and I moved on but not completely, I still quite felt hurt and sad until this book came into my life. When I finished this book, I realized that I didn't love my crush and I wasn't falling in love with him or maybe I was, but only to his appearance and I finished this book, I felt completely moved on. now, I no longer feel hurt or sad or disappointed or anything because the more I think about him, the more I realize that he's not as cute or amazing or whatever I used to think about him.
so many quotes I love from this book and one of them is this quote because this quote changed how I think about that guy I used to like.
if you haven't read this book, I highly recommend you to read it because this book was really great and the romance was also sweet.
isn't that really sweet?! Seriously, the romance between Julie and Bryce was so sweet that my eyes even got teary over how sweet it was.
actually, I intended to give this book 4 stars but I gave one extra star because it helped me to move on and to be a better person.

I’ve been reading a lot of dark and violent books lately. I recently joined two challenges, both of which requires me to read those kind of books. Not that I’m complaining or anything because it’s those kind of books I enjoy reading the most. I just thought I need to read something different, something light and positive, something –as my friend Tina prefers to call them–fluffy. As it turns out, Wendelin Van Draanen’s Flipped was the right book for the break from gritty novels that I needed.
The moment Juli Baker sets her eyes upon the blue-eyed Bryce Loski, she fell in love with him. Bryce, on the other hand, thinks that she’s a dangerous maniac and wants nothing but for her to leave him alone. From 2nd grade up to 7th, they had this stable relationship wherein Juli is chasing after Bryce and Bryce is trying his hardest to avoid her. Eight grade came, they found themselves in reverse situation. Juli realizes that Bryce is nothing but a tactless arrogant jerk while Bryce started to notice Juli’s iridescence.
If John Green have written an 8th grade he-said she-said coming-of-age novel, it would have been something like this. Strong-willed female lead? Check. Brilliant character development and interesting minor characters’ storyarc? Check. Spot-on potrayal of being young; hence, giving the reader a sense of nostalgia? Funny yet poignant story? Perfect and optimistic ending? Check, check and a check. The only element missing is the geeky guy which is quite prominent it Green’s novels.
Now, I’m not saying that Van Draanen is a John Green rip-off. To be compared to John Green who ranks high on my favorite authors is probably one of the best compliment I could ever give. The difference between the two of them is how they start their novels. John Green will make you laugh really loud, whereas Van Draneen will make you smile from ear to ear. A smile that is so optimistic, it can cure cancer. I guess the other difference is that Van Draanen’s novel was already adapted into a film while Green’s, for the moment, is only optioned.
Flipped is also a good companion novel to John Green’s Paper Towns. It touches the same theme Paper Towns discussed–the idea of misimagining someone. At the beginning of the novel, it’s clear that Juli loves her idea of Bryce and Bryce hates his idea of Juli. They grew up developing those ideas they have instead of actually knowing one another. It goes to show that we really have that tendency to idealize a person rather than actually knowing him or her.
And just like Q in Paper Towns, Bryce also had this revelation when he finally see Juli which leads to my favorite line from the book which is a pretty simple line but, in my opinion, says everything(not verbatim):

"The first time I saw him, I flipped."
Wow, what a fun read! Everything in this book is loaded with all kinds of cuteness. I like the setting, the premise, and the whole idea of this book. I was kind of, in some way, in love with it.
Flipped is not just purely fluff, it's deeper than what I've expected because it conveys great messages that serve as an inspiration to the readers.
"One's character is set at an early age. The choices you make now will affect you for the rest of your life."
I like the characters in this book, especially Bryce's grandfather. I really learned a lot from his words of wisdom. Definitely worth pondering!
All throughout the book I was entertained, especially by Juli and Bryce's love/hate relationship which was totally adorable! My only concern with this book was that I kind of had a hard time going through the same events from both POVs.
But overall, it was a great and refreshing read. I highly recommend this to all YA contemporary fans who are in a search of a light and cute read.

the way it brings Bryce and Julianna together is just spectacular! I recomend this to all who love good childish humor! It is soooo "LOL"!

Trees, eggs and kisses :3 What else do you need in life?
Love was the first thing July felt when she met Bryce, her new neighbor. Panic was the first thing Bryce felt. Oblivious to this fact, July intimidated Bryce with her forthrightness and curiosity while Bryce tried to hide from her as much as possible.
The first thing I loved about Flipped was the warm feeling of simpler times and their innocence and ingenuity. It reminded me of my first crush and how honest it was. If you need to know, no, I didn't get the boy in the end. (Your lost, Marcos!)
Also, the characters are perfect. Both July and Bryce have perfect voices, each POV is genuine and they're brilliantly portrayed. I loved how clueless she is about how he feels about her but at the same time how the little things eventually win him over. The tree scene is so sad, I can't believe I was almost crying over a fictional tree!
Shout out to the twins that made my day ^_^ (Fred and George, anybody?).
Now, don't let the cuteness fool you. Yes, they're kids and yes, this is sweet and fun but the core of the story is the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Both families, as different as they seemed, had many things in common. And I think one of the hardest lessons Bryce learnt was how being better, even better than your parents, is a painful choice but possibly the best one.
In a simple and wonderful way, Flipped is a story that will warm your heart and draw a smile upon your face.

A banger because even though I read this nearly 20 years ago, I still remember how it made 11-year-old me feel. I LOVED this book and reread it several times.

First things first – that cover is so good! And now that I’ve read the book, I’m even more in love with it, knowing its significance. I mean, look at it? It’s just a chick, there’s nothing else. But I love its simplicity and the idea in general (I know you're gonna judge my poor choices or something, but I love what I love, get over it ;)
Flipped is not a romance, despite what the book might want you to believe. It’s more of a coming-of-age story about two different kids, with problems and personality of their own. Bryce Loski is a shy teenager, and has hated Juli Baker ever since the first day he saw her when they moved to her neighborhood and she fell for him, or more like his blue eyes. The outgoing, enthusiastic girl that she is, Juli still fails to impress Bryce. But then, Juli starts to realize that Bryce is more than his blue eyes, and Bryce starts to realize that what matters are the matters of the heart.
• Bryce’s pov was really impressive to read. He talks to us like it matters to him how we see things, and it felt refreshing to be included and considered.
• Juli seemed a little too over-enthusiastic and idk, over-the-top in almost everything she does, in her crush on Bryce, her love for the sycamore, her daily actions in general.
• Both of the characters aren’t particularly likeable. But I did like reading Juli’s view on everything. She looks ‘at the big picture’.
• Idk, but Juli’s and Bryce’s family were weird. Like very very weird and unrealistic.
• Like, take Juli’s brother for an instance – owning a boa constrictor? Isn’t that illegal or something? Also, Bryce’s dad was a dick and Bryce himself was a coward. But I loved Juli’s dad and Bryce’s mom – they were the only sensible people in the book.
• The whole ‘Basket Boy’ thing was really weird and funny and idk, unbelievable. Selling boys and their handsome face for money? It was kinda cruel if you ask me. I mean, if it were ‘Basket Girls’ the whole world would have been chasing the school authorities with pitchforks. But alas, those poor unfortunate boys have nobody to speak up for them.
• The Ending in my opinion was unsatisfactory. True, the author succeeded on giving us a mental picture of how things might go on. But it felt abrupt and scraped off a bark. There wasn’t much of a conclusion, any confrontation of sorts or anything pleasing in general. I wasn’t ready to buy it.
This book is just another coming-of-age book. The characters are unique in the sense that, they’re weird and don’t try hard to be relatable or anything. But the message as a whole was promising and hopeful. I wish I could’ve read this as a child. Definitely something I’d buy my kids though. It’s got a lot to teach young kids. Recommended.

Este libro es absolutamente bello. Leerlo es estar todo el tiempo así:

Pero principalmente es amar y odiar a los personajes.
La historia sigue a Juli Baker y a Bryce Losky durante 6 años, desde que Bryce se muda al vecindario de Juli a la tierna edad de 7 años. Juli queda enganchada de Bryce , mientras que Bryce en el momento en que conoció a Juli se sintió asustado e intimidado.
Con el transcurso de los años, Juli continua enganchada de Bryce, mientras que Bryce sigue huyendo de Juli, encontrándola chocante.
Si bien los primeros dos capítulos son infantiles yo LOS AME. Simplemente Juli y Bryce notaban las cosas de manera completamente distinta y es absolutamente hermoso. De hecho, es uno de las mejores combinaciones de POV que he leído, en ningún momento confundes a los personajes y siempre denotan la personalidad de cada uno de ellos.
Conforme avanza la historia vemos crecer a estos chicos hasta notar su verdadera personalidad y a sus familias. Las familias de ambos son muy distintas, dan más profundidad a la historia, el papa de Juli y el abuelo de Bryce son dos personajes que se dan a querer...es más, quiero dos para llevar por favor.
Yo odio los amores instantáneos, pero aquí sirve. Por un lado Juli no esta dispuesta a morir por Bryce ni algo similar, pero acepta que la engancho desde que lo vio y eso es lo que desata la historia. Como crece Juli es maravilloso, es una chica decidida, inteligente, soñadora y sentimental, que se vuelve más realista conforme la historia avanza. Bryce por su parte se vuelve menos superficial y valiente, lo cual adore, los errores que cometió pueden perdonarsele primero por su edad y segundo por que realmente esta arrepentido.
El final sinceramente ME ENCANTO , tanto el del libro como el de la película, me parece excelente para la historia porque no lleva a que se arruine nuestra percepción de ambos.

Bryce meanwhile becomes less superficial and brave, which adores, he committed errors can be forgiven because of his age first and second that really is sorry.

5 (MILLION) STARS. Yes, I have reread this book four times now, maybe more. Because it is THAT good and that close to my heart. I finally decided that I should write a review for it, but IT'S GOING TO BE SO HARD TO DO THAT. Because when you love something so much, it's difficult to put into words why it makes your heart sing. Let's just say this book is far more than the sum of its parts. ;)
First, the characters. OH MAN THE CHARACTERS. They are perfect — because they are imperfect. They are relatable, flawed, and also completely lovable. Sometimes you want to hug them and give them the world and other times you want to yell at them for being so stupid — but that's what makes them so GOOD. These characters not only feel like real people, they are a perfect example of AMAZING character development in a book.
SERIOUSLY!! If someone were to ask me how to write character development well, I would tell them: "Go read Flipped." I love how the author says that she wasn't prepared to write two sympathetic main characters — and that the protagonist readers would be rooting for would be Juli… but then as she wrote the book, she realized that Bryce had the potential to become the hero of the story as well. I LOVE THIS, because I can't imagine the story any other way.
Flipped is a story about changing your perspective — looking at things differently, even if it means tearing down a belief you've stuck to for so long. Seeing the truth about people, even when it hurts. It's a story about family and friendship and what those two words really mean.
Both Juli and Bryce are wonderful role model characters — even though they struggle, fail, and make mistakes, they both journey to a conclusion that they were wrong about so many things. Their characters come full circle, and through everyday events they grow and change and become better people. Better protagonists.
AND IF YOU DON'T READ THIS BOOK FOR THE AWESOME CHARACTERS ALONE, read it for these reasons:
- HUGE focus on family relationships, not just romance
- deep themes!
- character voice oN POINT
- it's hilarious (and this from a VERY picky comedy reader)
- there's an upside-down chick on the cover
- it's a story that will plant itself in your heart and grow roots and NEVER LEAVE.

First, the characters. OH MAN THE CHARACTERS. They are perfect — because they are imperfect. They are relatable, flawed, and also completely lovable. Sometimes you want to hug them and give them the world and other times you want to yell at them for being so stupid — but that's what makes them so GOOD. These characters not only feel like real people, they are a perfect example of AMAZING character development in a book.
SERIOUSLY!! If someone were to ask me how to write character development well, I would tell them: "Go read Flipped." I love how the author says that she wasn't prepared to write two sympathetic main characters — and that the protagonist readers would be rooting for would be Juli… but then as she wrote the book, she realized that Bryce had the potential to become the hero of the story as well. I LOVE THIS, because I can't imagine the story any other way.
Flipped is a story about changing your perspective — looking at things differently, even if it means tearing down a belief you've stuck to for so long. Seeing the truth about people, even when it hurts. It's a story about family and friendship and what those two words really mean.
Both Juli and Bryce are wonderful role model characters — even though they struggle, fail, and make mistakes, they both journey to a conclusion that they were wrong about so many things. Their characters come full circle, and through everyday events they grow and change and become better people. Better protagonists.
AND IF YOU DON'T READ THIS BOOK FOR THE AWESOME CHARACTERS ALONE, read it for these reasons:
- HUGE focus on family relationships, not just romance
- deep themes!
- character voice oN POINT
- it's hilarious (and this from a VERY picky comedy reader)
- there's an upside-down chick on the cover
- it's a story that will plant itself in your heart and grow roots and NEVER LEAVE.

I first read this book when I was in the sixth grade. I fell in love.
I forgot about it for a while. Then I saw it sitting in my high school library and decided to reread it.
I fell in love all over again.
This book is so magically adorable, emotional, and just plain fantastic.
Julianna Baker is one of the best characters I've read about. And the development in both main characters is just extraordinary.
I never wanted this book to end. Ever.

I absolutely love this book. It's soo cute because it talks about a seven year old boy and a seven year old girl that just moves into his neighborhood. She likes him alot but he just wants to get as far away from her as possible. Later on, he starts to realize that she might not be that bad and that he might actually like her BUT, she starts to realize that he might not be the one she was looking for after all! It's all FLIPPED!

Well that was actually quite sweet!
I really enjoyed the alternate POV on the same events. Originally I thought it would feel repetitive but their views on how particular events played out were so different that it was enjoyable to see it through their eyes. There are lots of people who want a sequel but personally I liked where it ended, on a note of hope and possibility.

Flipped reminds me of a younger/innocent version of Neighbor From Hell series. Juli and Bryce are neighbors who attend the same school. Their rocky relationship portrays the struggles between boys and girls in elementary and middle school.
Both learn to look beyond the surface and search for something deeper in the human nature. In doing so they discover themselves as they continue mature.
This book was made into a movie in 2010.I haven't seen the movie yet. Once I figure out where I can find this movie I plan to watch it. The trailer looks good. Flipped movie trailer.

Mình đọc cuốn này chỉ với mong muốn tìm cảm giác nhẹ nhàng, yêu đời thôi nhưng không ngờ được đọc một cuốn sách hay đến vậy :). Thật ra trong lúc đọc sách chẳng mang lại cảm giác nhẹ nhàng chút nào, chính xác càng đọc lại càng thấy phát sùng lên. Tính mình vốn hay bức xúc trước chuyện bất bình mà, nên cảm thấy bực bội kinh khủng. Nhưng bực bội thế nào thì đọc phần sau sẽ càng thấy "sướng" thế nấy, sướng như được gãi đúng chỗ ngứa vậy :).
Tác giả viết theo kiểu luân phiên góc nhìn từ Bryce và từ Julli, với chương đầu là lời kể của Bryce thì chương sau, cũng với cùng sự kiện và khoảng thời gian đó nhưng qua lời kể của Julli. Ban đầu mình cứ nghĩ viết theo cách này sẽ làm câu chuyện trở nên chán lắm, vì như vậy thì hầu như chương sau là sự lặp lại của chương trước rồi. Nhưng tác giả rất hay khi không chỉ làm cho người đọc thấy thú vị và hấp dẫn dõi theo từng chương mà còn tận dụng cách "phân vai" đó để thể hiện tính cách, suy nghĩ của từng nhân vật. Do đó không chỉ 1 mà cả 2 nhân vật chính đều hiện lên rõ nét, trở nên quen thuộc với người đọc. Một điểm thú vị nữa là, cùng 1 chuyện nhưng tùy thuộc tâm trạng mỗi nhân vật lúc đó ra sao mà các chi tiết trong đó cũng có khác biệt đôi chút.
Cuốn này mình đánh giá cao vì nó không chỉ là một câu chuyện tình yêu, thật ra yếu tố tình cảm chỉ là phần bề nổi, là cầu nối cho những thông điệp trong sách. Khi đọc sách mình có cảm giác nó giống như một cuốn truyện thiếu nhi vậy, vì mục đích sâu xa của nó là đưa ra những bài học để giáo dục tính cách con người. Điều này thể hiện rõ qua 2 nhóm nhân vật mang hình mẫu "tốt" - "xâú" và những nhân vật vẫn đang trong quá trình hoàn thiện bản thân mình. Trong đó có những nhân vật mình rất thích, đặc biệt là gia đình Baker - tính cách mỗi người, không khí gia đình, cách mọi người quan tâm đến nhau thật tuyệt vời.
Tựa đề tiếng Việt khá hài hước nhưng mình vẫn thích tựa gốc và hình bìa gốc hơn. Theo mình trong truyện có 2 thứ bị flip,. Và cả 2 đều được dẫn dắt rất thuyết phục,. I must say, Flipped is a great book and also has a great teaching, as well as being huge amount of fun to read because of the author's fabulous techniques. One of the techniques the author uses in the book is showing different perspectives throughout the book, to be speciefic: the way he describes the point of view from Juli's and Bryce's perspective, also a very fun technique since you're always wondering what the other character in the story thinks too. Another entertaining technique is the quite fancy way the author makes suspense in the story, like slowing down time, he shows the characters feelings and exposes his or her thoughts toward the event. One last thing that makes this book a must is that the author creates a tremendous amount of conflict building up all the time that makes a intense background for what's happening right then. The teaching of this book is a very good one, that "A painting is more than the sum of it's parts" which means that all the pieces that make up something are not what make something special, but what they make up is what's special.

Second time read. First time review. I've also seen the movie a gazillion times.
Flipped is beyond adorable. I loved Juli and Bryce the first time around so it was no surprise that I continued to love them. However, I did feel like I saw some stuff differently. Little flaws here and there but those things didn't change my rating or how I felt while reading this book. I still ended up enjoying the shit out of how adorable these two were.
Juli Baker is a kid with a god damn backbone! I loved her spirit and how she viewed things. I also really enjoyed her cute little crush on Bryce - even if he squirmed about it all the damn time. Since I've read this book before and see the movie countless times (hey, I own both of them!) I knew that their feelings would grow and change throughout the book. However, I did hate how people were so quick to judge Juli and her family. It's so annoying and frustratingly accurate because people do that every damn day.
Bryce Loski, man he was adorable and kind of full of himself. The world wasn't ending when Juli had a crush on him. I get it kids have cooties at certain stages but I couldn't condone what he did or how he acted throughout some of this book. I didn't care if he dated Shelly to get Juli to back off. Shelly meant nothing to me and obviously nothing to him either. Then there was the whole, letting his best friends Garrett make fun of Juli and her family in the library.. and he just laughed it. HE FUCKING LAUGHED! I mean, it's all good because he thought about punching Garrett for what he said.. good for him to think that instead of doing it. God, boys are stupid!
Besides those two, I loved the entire Baker family! Their dynamic was real and refreshing. A family that supports everyone in it? Sounds amazing. 'Cause once you walk on over to the Loski's it's the complete opposite. My favorite out of that family was Chet, Bryce's grandfather. He was the only one that didn't seem fake to me. I mean there was Lynette but you didn't really see her that much. Then there's Bryce's dad, Rick, and I absolutely hated that douche schnozzle.
Overall, it was a cute and enjoyable book. The one thing that kind of annoyed me this time around was that it didn't have their names for their chapters. I get that it was a dual POV (sort of) but maybe I'm just so used to reading books that have the characters name at the top so that I know who's POV I'm about to read from.. I don't know maybe I'm spoiled now with other books that I didn't appreciate this as much. Either way, I loved the shit out of this book and I will always reread it.

The way Flipped is viewed definitely differs from most books for two main reasons. First, it’s written alternately between Bryce and Juli’s perspective on themselves, each other and their families. Second, the word choices Draanen chooses are so vivid that it’ll make you feel like the actual character! For example, in the beginning, Draanen describes the first time Bryce and Juli laid eyes on each other. Bryce says, “All I ever wanted is for Juli Baker to leave me alone. For her to back off—you know, just give me some space.” While Juli says, “My heart stopped. It just stopped beating. And for the first time in my life, I had that feeling. You know, like the whole world is moving all around you, beneath you, all inside you, and you’re floating. Floating in midair. And the only thing keeping you from drifting away is the other person’s eyes. They’re connected to yours by some invisible physical force, and they hold you fast while the rest of the world swirls and twirls and falls completely away.” Draanen definitely has readers get into the characters’ head and feel exactly what they’re feeling. Even though Draanen writes the characters’ thoughts right on the page, you’ll be constantly inferring, predicting, and asking questions. This might sound very school-like but I guarantee you won’t even realize you’re doing it!
I guess it’s safe to say first impressions usually impact people the most though are often inaccurate. Not only does this intervene with Bryce and Juli, it also intervenes with me. This is because as the pages starts to build up, the experiences they both face does too. And as the experiences make their way through each of their lives, I soon remember to never judge someone without getting to know them first—especially Bryce and Juli. You’ll see how drastically they change when they become teenagers.
When the curtains finally close, the characters soon realize the true light of themselves, each other, and their families. Bryce, a deceitful coward, who’s only goal was to get away from Juli and have nothing to do with her, flips into someone completely different. While Juli, a courageous individual, is overly obsessed with her ideal Bryce and doesn’t know how he is truly like. Juli will soon see that there’s more to Bryce Loski than she might know. But after all those times he’s mistreated her, how could she ever find it in her heart to accept him? Well, that’s for me to know and for you to find out!
It’s not until you’ve finally finish the book until you realize how much you’re able to take out of it. The idea of being you—being genuine and brave—being able to live out loud, is nicely demonstrated in this novel. If you’re looking for some encouragement and inspiration for living out loud, go pick up a copy of Flipped! It might not even be close as the length of The Odyssey, but it’s definitely filled with lots of sparks!

ui ya sách gì ngắn thế các bạn ạ, ấn tượng đầu là rất ngắn nên mình đã tin rằng rất dễ đọc. mà ừ dễ thật.
Chắc hẳn các bạn cũng biết, đây là một cuốn sách dạng tình yêu trẻ con khá ngây thơ trong sáng. không hề sai, mạch truyện chính kể về những điều rất đỗi "bất thường" giữa hai cô cậu hàng xóm láng giềng suốt từ khi còn bé tí tới cuối cấp 2. mình không có ý coi thường tình yêu tuổi học trò, tuy vậy khi bằng tuổi họ trải nghiệm của mình hoàn toàn khác nên đọc truyện này không cảm được. đối với mình câu chuyện được xây dựng có phần hơi quá lố và quá... trẻ con để mình có thể thấy hay.
điều mà các bạn có lẽ chưa biết là cuốn sách này không chỉ kể chuyện tình yêu. đây còn là một cuốn sách về sự cảm thông, về việc biết cách mở rộng tâm hồn đón nhận người khác và cảnh ngộ của họ. cũng vì thế mà mình để cuốn sách này 3,5/5 sao, mặc dù không thích nội dung chính lắm. mình đã suýt khóc (các bạn tin được không?) khi đọc về câu chuyện của một nhân vật phụ hoàn toàn không liên quan luôn!
mình lại thấy suy cho cùng tác giả làm gì cũng chưa tới. khai thác không chín tình cảm giữa 2 đứa trẻ, câu chuyện gia đình dở dang, mạch truyện phụ không có nhiều đất diễn, đã vậy cái kết còn cụt lủn làm mình tưởng vẫn còn tiếp mà dở sang trang sau đã thấy lời cảm ơn rồi? mà cái mình thấy phiền nhất của cuốn này chính là cách kể: cùng một câu chuyện kể lại 2 lần, mỗi lần dưới góc nhìn của 1 nhân vật thì để làm gì? mình không thấy được sự hiệu quả của cách kể này.
chắc nếu bạn đang muốn tìm một quyển sách nhẹ nhàng, nhanh chóng, đặc biệt dành cho lứa tuổi Middle Grade (tiểu học-THCS) thì cuốn này cũng hợp đấy. để một đứa suy nghĩ nhiều như mình đọc thì không hợp lắm.

điều mà các bạn có lẽ chưa biết là cuốn sách này không chỉ kể chuyện tình yêu. đây còn là một cuốn sách về sự cảm thông, về việc biết cách mở rộng tâm hồn đón nhận người khác và cảnh ngộ của họ. cũng vì thế mà mình để cuốn sách này 3,5/5 sao, mặc dù không thích nội dung chính lắm. mình đã suýt khóc (các bạn tin được không?) khi đọc về câu chuyện của một nhân vật phụ hoàn toàn không liên quan luôn!
mình lại thấy suy cho cùng tác giả làm gì cũng chưa tới. khai thác không chín tình cảm giữa 2 đứa trẻ, câu chuyện gia đình dở dang, mạch truyện phụ không có nhiều đất diễn, đã vậy cái kết còn cụt lủn làm mình tưởng vẫn còn tiếp mà dở sang trang sau đã thấy lời cảm ơn rồi? mà cái mình thấy phiền nhất của cuốn này chính là cách kể: cùng một câu chuyện kể lại 2 lần, mỗi lần dưới góc nhìn của 1 nhân vật thì để làm gì? mình không thấy được sự hiệu quả của cách kể này.
chắc nếu bạn đang muốn tìm một quyển sách nhẹ nhàng, nhanh chóng, đặc biệt dành cho lứa tuổi Middle Grade (tiểu học-THCS) thì cuốn này cũng hợp đấy. để một đứa suy nghĩ nhiều như mình đọc thì không hợp lắm.
