These books examine what DBT is, who it can help, what conditions is can help manage, and why it works. The book open with a brief overview of what Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is, its history and its usefulness. I had never heard of DBT so this was all new to me. The author uses clear, concise language and comes across as an expert in his field. The 2nd book focuses on how DBT can be used to manage anxiety. Tye main premise is the present is what it is, but that change is inevitable, and we need to learn to adapt. DBT is all about the extremes, there is no gray areas. I appreciated that the author acknowledges that this book can be used as a self-help book, but that it is most effective when used in conjunction with a therapist. I found that realistic.
This book is fantastic for setting the road on what you need to know to get started with DBT. There's a brief history in the beginning and how it's connected to CBT, along with the intended audience. It was very clear and concise and easy to understand which I loved. There's a lot of helpful information for mindfulness as well as taking care of yourself via assertiveness or confidence and to not feel guilt or shame for the emotions you may feel, or the physical side effects of these emotions.
This book provided me tools to deal with my depression. Not making it seem like I need to fix myself in a day. It helped me come up with little things to encourage myself to move forward to find more balance and happier moments. Setting small goals as opposed to filling my already busy plate up. It helped me accept some of my negative feelings and push back with positive ones. Managing my time and getting a routine set to suit me has helped me improve.
If you or someone you love suffer from extreme emotions such as anxiety or phobias, this book could help you. DNT is an established form of therapy to help manage those emotions. Paired with a trained therapist, you will work together to solve your problems. There is also valuable information in this book on how to support someone going through this therapy.
Lots of good information on helping anxiety, depression, and stress with the different strategies. The author talks about mindfulness and its befits as well. Good, easy to follow tips.
