Beyond the Veil: Entering Into Intimacy with God Through Prayer

Rate this book
Beyond the Veil shows how you can break down the walls and move from stagnancy to vibrancy in your prayer life. As a self-published title, this book sold 17,000 copies in a year-with no distribution channels, simply by word-of -mouth and limited newsletter exposure. Now, this dynamic, much-talked-about book is available for the first time to the CBA market. Intimate intercession is something we all yearn for but-admittedly-rarely achieve. In a loving, clear way, Alice Smith walks us into God's very presence by showing us how to slow down and catch up with our loving Father.

This is easily the best book I have read on intimacy and intercession. It is practical and informative, soul-searing and thirst-quenching. The questions at the end of the chapters are simple and inescapable. I love Alice Smith's directness - So where are you with Jesus? Are you living in the fullness of intimacy with Him? What keeps you from going there? These are questions I had asked myself before, but seeing them on paper made me really ask myself again.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about the inner workings of a deep personal prayer life - who wants to search their heart and His. This one is best digested slowly.

When I first started this book I thought I will give up but continuing reading is the best thing I did because now I understand God's way much better with Christians ; I know now that we need the crushing of our hearts and souls so that we can receive Lord Jesus fully and make us realizing in the process that we need Him with us close so that we can bring the Glory of God to others and also glorify Him like we are supposed to do! This book opened my eyes in regard of how emotional I am in my prayers and how my heart is not fully to Lord Jesus but I want that my heart will belong to Him fully...

At first I thought this might be one of those superspiritual books that are a little out there, but Smith seems balanced, wise, and anchored to the truth of God's word. I feel challenged by the call to forget my selfish wants, worries, or needs, and instead, to desire to become a friend of God and focus on his priorities. Besides, he always takes good care of me and knows my needs before I even ask.

I read this book because I am the facilitator for "The Prayer Life of a Leader," one of the courses in the winter Brethren in Christ Directed Study Program. It is well written, easy to read, honest, backed with scripture, and personally challenging. I may be a pray-er, but I have yet to experience the intimacy and power available to one who sits in the Presence of the Holy God in the inner sanctuary of the tabernacle. Grateful to be called to be on the journey.

I went into reading this book with uncertainty and skepticism (as I do for lots of these kinds of books). But Beyond the Veil perhaps surprised me with its down-the-line evangelical theology, and its call not to enter into some weird and whacky prayer habits, but rather to seek to draw closer to God in the conversation of prayer.

I really forward to reading it. I have read one of Peter Wagner's book who recommends it so much.
I am hunting for a copy, I pray God makes a way.
I am sure it will bless by heart.
God bless you Alice Smith.

Mysticism. Only saved from a one-star rating because it's been over five years since I read it and can't remember the details, and because it contained coherent, thoughtful contemplation of the subject matter before it went off the rails into mysticism.

Underline things you want to remember. Finding that God wants closeness with us. It has given me instruction on how to get closer to him and get to know what He wants instead of what I want from Him.

I had read this a number of years ago and had it sitting on the bookshelf. As often happens with me, while reading something else, this title came to mind and I knew it was a prompting to get it out and read again. I'm so glad that I listened and obeyed. This book is a call to that secret inner place where it is you and the Lord face to face sharing with each other. The beginning of the book is a teaser for what can be and then she systematically lays out the foundation of the OT tabernacle relating it to us humans showing the Holy of Holies as the communing of Spirit to spirit. I've been blessed to have experiences in that place in the past and realized that I had gotten away from it. This was a reawakening for me to what can be in my relationship with the Lord if I am willing to invest the time to press in to that place. If you're hungry for me, this is a good place to start.
