In the second installment of Maria DiRico's new Catering Hall Mystery series, Mia Carina is back in the borough of Queens, in charge of the family catering hall Belle View Banquet Manor, and keeping her nonna company. But some events--like murder at a shower--are not the kind you can schedule...
Mia's newly pregnant friend Nicole plans to hold a shower at Belle View--but Nicole also has to attend one that her competitive (and mysteriously rich) stepmother, Tina, is throwing at the fanciest place in Queens. It's a good chance for Mia to snoop on a competitor, especially since doing a search for how to run a catering hall can get you only so far.
Mia tags along at the lavish party, but the ambience suffers at Nicole's Belle View shower when a fight breaks out--and then, oddly, a long-missing and valuable stolen painting is unwrapped by the mom-to-be. Tina is clearly shocked to see it. But not as shocked as Mia is when, soon afterward, she spots the lifeless body of a party guest floating in the marina . . .
Maria DiRico (the pen name of award-winning author Ellen Byron) was born in Queens, New York, and raised in Queens and Westchester County. She is first-generation Italian American on her mother’s side. On her father’s side, her grandfather was a low-level Jewish mobster who disappeared in 1933 under mysterious circumstances. While growing up in Queens, Maria/Ellen's cousins ran the Astoria Manor and Grand Bay Marina catering halls.
As Ellen Byron, her Cajun Country Mysteries have won multiple Agatha award and Lefty awards. BAYOU BOOK THIEF, the first book in her Vintage Cookbook Mysteries, has been nominated for Agatha and Lefty awards as well. Ellen is an award-winning playwright, and non-award-winning TV writer of comedies like WINGS, JUST SHOOT ME, and FAIRLY ODD PARENTS. She has written over two hundred articles for national magazines but considers her most impressive credit working as a cater-waiter for Martha Stewart.
Long Island Iced Tina is the second book in the 'Catering Hall Mysteries' written by Maria DiRico, and it will be published in February of 2021. I've previously read the first book in the series and another series by the author that was written under a different name. I enjoy her writing style, and this new book is no exception.
Mia is a mob princess. Her father was pretty high up, but he's mostly gone clean after a prison stint. Her family still has connections, and they now run a catering hall in Queens. Mia has her own tragedies from a past marriage and murder suspicion, but today, she is much better of. Her grandmother keeps her in line too. Mia's best friend is having a baby shower, and the girl's stepmother (stepMONSTER) is iced at the event... a strange painting shows up, leading Mia to find a web of fraud in the art world. Also, the competition seems to be trying to put her out of business, so of course, she must solve the case.
Mia is a likeable protagonist. She is very Italian, has strong NY qualities, and can be quite tough... but she has a tender side and is just trying to get her life in order. Jamie, her former love from afar, has a girlfriend, but she still pines for him. In this book, Mia gets driving lessons from Jamie, but by the end of the book, a new suitor evolves. Of course, we eagerly wonder whom she should be with. It seems like the new guy is so hot he'd melt butter just by being ten feet away! Add in Benjy--the grandson of another mob boss--and funeral hopping with grandma, then we have lots of comical errors in the catering hall too.
The mystery is good. A painting went missing twenty years ago. The late Tina knew something about it. Several people who were involved at the time show up near the baby shower. Tina just wants to impress her new husband and make his ex-wife look awful. So awful that she's the primary suspect when Tina dies. Unfortunately, Mia's friend is close to having the baby, so she can't do a whole lot right now to protect her father when he's in the spotlight for murder too. It all pulls together with solid reasons for Mia to become the amateur sleuth, and I enjoy her foray into the mob and police worlds.
I took me about 10 to 15 % to get fully immersed back into the mob world, as sometimes it's a little over the top... but once you settle in, it's quite a hoot, and I found myself unwilling to put it down before bed. I look forward to more and can't wait to find out what really happened to Mia's ex; I know there's a story lurking to be shared.
This is a cozy mystery, and this is the second book in the Catering Hall Mystery Series. I have to say I really enjoyed the characters, and the mystery of this book was good. This was a fun and funny cozy mystery with great characters. The writing in this book was very good. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington Publishing Corporation) or author (Maria DiRico) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
This is a series that I am enjoying with the Queens setting and likable, somewhat funny characters and a great mystery to solve. Mia Carina and dad, Ravello, Mob lieutenant, on a straight path, are working hard to make the Family owned catering hall, Bell View Banquet Manor, a success. Mia lives with her Nonna Elisabetta, after a failed marriage. Elisabetta's answer to all problems is food, yummy sounding Italian food. Her brother Posi is serving a prison sentence and her mom is not in the picture. Mia's friend Nicole is pregnant and Bell View hosts one of the showers where her stepmonster mother gives a gift that she really did not give, a stolen painting, but it is apparently some sort of warning that only she understands. When her body is later found behind Bell View, Nicole's mom is a prime suspect having been seen arguing with the deceased. Mia sets out once more to solve a murder mystery where someone close to her is a suspect. This is a complicated mystery to unravel as it appears to be possibly linked to an old crime. This series is funny with the Italian seniors and their quirky antics that keep it light while the Italian Mob Family keeps it interesting. There are some new and recurring wacky employees at the hall and an irritating reporter that add side issues as does an old friendship that Mia has to figure out if she wants it to be more. I highly recommend it for a good cozy read. I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Publishing through NetGalley for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
Mia Carina is thrilled for her friend Nicole, who is expecting her first baby. Nicole has chosen Mia’s catering hall, Belle View, as the location for one of her baby showers. Despite Mia’s best efforts, the baby shower is interrupted by a fight between Nicole’s mother and step-mother. Then, one of Nicole’s presents turns out to be a valuable painting stolen years before. Things only get worse when Mia finds the body of a shower guest the next morning. Is the murder linked to the painting?
I enjoyed the first book in the series, and this one was great as well. The painting added a fun element to the mystery, and I really enjoyed seeing how that played out. The mystery had some great zigs and zags along the way. The climax was a bit complicated, but I was able to think it through, and it did make sense. All the characters were wonderful, with some interesting growth for the series regulars. Mia’s grandmother provides a very funny sub-plot, and there are other great moments of humor throughout the book. At the end, we get four recipes and a hit for hosting events yourself. The series is set in Queens, and Mia’s family is involved in the mob. Even so, this is most definitely still a cozy series. Grab some ice tea and enjoy this delightful book.
This was a fun cozy. The characters draw you in with their personalities, each different. The mystery was interesting and kept me guessing right to the end and I never did figure out who did it before the end either. Like mysteries involving the mob and Jersey Shore this is just the book for you.
Pub Date: 23 Feb 2021 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you. All opinions are my own
I liked this book. It has interesting characters and a good mystery. I liked the Mia was so dogged in her investigation. I was surprised by who the bad guys were. #LongIslandIcedTina #NetGalley
Mia Carina was born into a New York mob family; however, her father Ravello, has opened Belle View Banquet Manor as a legit business to separate him from mob dealings. Mia’s close friend, Nicole, is pregnant and plans to soon marry the baby’s father, Ian. Nicole’s father, Ron, is divorced from her mother, Linda, and his current wife, Tina, is a terror. Tina gets into a yelling match with Nicole’s beloved grandmother, Minnie, in the bathroom at Belle View which makes Linda furious. A mysterious shower gift adds to the growing tension at the baby shower. Readers will know what direction this altercation is headed for and, sure enough, a body is found floating in the bay soon after.
Great, interesting characters headline this story and they’re pure gold entertainment! I chuckled throughout the story! There are actually several small mysteries besides the main murder—all excellent! The author provides ample suspects and clues to the murder mystery. Recipes included. I loved the story! I highly recommend this cozy series.
I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. All opinions are my own. Thank you.
Long Island Iced Tina is the second installment in the Catering Hall Mystery series set in Queens, New York and featuring catering/banquet hall manager, Mia Carina. Business is picking up at Belle View Banquet Manor, the facility that her ex-mobster father, Ravello is running for another member of the "Family".
Mia is looking forward to hosting a baby shower at Belle View for her best friend Nicole, that is if she can keep Nicole's family drama to a minimum. Nicole's mother and grandmother are at war with Nicole's stepmother, Tina and now there are going to be dueling showers. Tina is hosting her shower at the posh Versailles on the Park and Mia is looking forward to checking 0ut how her competition runs their business. In typical Tina fashion, the event centers more around her and how much money she has and little to do with Nicole and her husband Ian.
The second shower at Belle View is much more casual, filled with Nicole's family and friends. Things are going well until a fight breaks out in the bathroom between Tina and Nicole's grandmother, Minnie. Even more shocking is the appearance of a mysterious gift - a long lost piece of stolen artwork. Just when Mia thinks the day couldn't get any worse she stumbles across a body floating in the waters outside of Belle View.
A well-crafted mystery chock full of outrageous characters. A ring of art thieves, a conniving Chef, disruptive employees, mobsters and opinionated Italian grandmothers will have you laughing from page one. This is by far one of the best new series to come on the "cozy" scene and I can't wait to spend more time with Mia and the "Family".
I received an advanced copy of Long Island Iced Tina from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
New Jersey flair, a father trying his hand at a legit business and a daughter trying to keep him on that path by co-managing with him a once dilapidated event venue. Fireworks erupt between the mother and stepmother at a baby show for Mia's best friend, Nicole, and when the stepmother, Tina, turns up murdered all suspicion falls on Nicole's parents. Mia takes charge looking for clues in the art world as well as the world of the Family. She's an engaging heroine whose primary fault is her inability to learn how to drive a car. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review:
Mia is a good daughter and a good friend. She is helping to host a baby shower for her friend at her family-owned catering hall, Belle View Banquet Manor. And she is a good daughter because she is helping her dad become a legitimate business man and being sure he has cut the ties with the mob. When Mia attends a baby shower for her friend and a stolen picture is one of the shower gifts, she knows something is up. And when someone is found dead, she knows she has to find the culprit before someone she cares about is charged with the murder. She will need all of her “connections” to figure this one out.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. Mia and Nicole are really good friends and will do anything to help the other. Mia’s grandmother is very funny and she will boast to anyone about what a good detective Mia is. There may be a new love interest for Mia, we will have to wait and see.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there watching all of the action taking place. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. I was not sure who the culprit was until it was revealed at the end, which is how I like it.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
What does a made man do when he decides to go straight? He runs an event center with his daughter who seems to find herself solving murders almost as much as she does hosting events.
When Mia plans the baby shower for her BFF she gets the chance to attend the baby shower being thrown by Nicole’s step mother at her competitors event center. While the step Mother makes everything about her, the baby shower at Mia’s place is no different Though this time an old painting that had been stolen in a heist 20 years prior shows up at the baby shower. Not long after the step mother is found floating in the marina outside the event center.
With Nicole’s Mother and Father both in the hot seat with the police for the murder, Mia steps up to find out who killed the evil step mother and clear her second family. Anything to help her BFF and keep her safe during the final stages of her pregnancy.
This was the first book I read in this series and there were no gaps. It reads fine as a stand alone. Being from the NYC Metro area, I enjoyed the setting in Astoria Queens and could hear Mia’s accent as I read. I’m looking forward to more from this author in this series.
This is the second book in the Catering Hall Mystery series and I must say I'm really enjoying this series. It's a very easy audiobook experience.
Mia's best friend Nicole is pregnant and her mother and stepmother are throwing competing baby showers. When Nicole's stepmother is "iced" after the party, Mia must help clear her catering hall from being connected to the murder.
In addition to the mystery which involves an art heist, I also enjoyed the cast of side characters. You have Jamie who is the son of an associate of Mia's father and grew up around the business like her so he understands the lifestyle. Mia is taking driving lessons from him and trying not to get too jealous over his girlfriend. Her Nonna is always good for a laugh and some great food. Then there's the feuding grandmother's to be throwing zingers. I love the closeness of their tight knit circle. Maria DiRico shows you can still have those close relationships set along the backdrop of a big cityscape.
I love that this author balances keeping things light but also making the story still feel grown at the same time. And there's plenty of hijinks to keep the book moving.
Mia is a strong character who loves her family, even when they get involved in illegal activities, even when they deny they did anything wrong, and she knows they are lying. However, this time, she believes them when they say they had nothing to do with an art heist many years ago. In Long Island Iced Tina, the past comes back to haunt Mia’s friends and family, so she sets out to find the truth.
A stolen art piece shows up at the baby shower of Mia’s friend, Nicole, and Nicole’s step-mother-in-law reacts as if she has been hit by a truck. Shortly after the chaotic shower, Tina’s body is found floating in the river next to Belle View, the event space Mia and her father run. It comes as no surprise that someone murdered Tina, but there is a list of suspects a mile long. Evidence in the murder ties back to an old art heist, and the players involved have reasons to be worried and out for revenge.
The cast of characters all have a good motive, and many do not have alibis, but the finger keeps pointing to the one person it couldn’t have been, and no one, not even the police, can ignore the clues. Every member of this cast is easy to relate to in one way or another; each has a unique quality that makes them irresistible. Mia’s grandmother and father will make readers smile no matter how tense a situation, and even Mia’s brother, incarcerated, can give readers a reason to be happy. The art heist mystery, along with the murder, brings mob and cop together, with Mia, her friends, and her business associates in what could become an explosive situation.
Long Island Iced Tina will leave readers happy and satisfied with the ending. The killer is revealed just in time, and everyone is thrilled not to have a murder hanging over their heads. The art heist is solved after twenty years, and everyone is relieved when the dust settles. This is a delightful book with humor, emotional situations, and a family that loves one another. All of this combines to make this series a must for any cozy reader.
Mia Carina is doing well as she continues to manage her family’s catering hall, Belle View Banquet Manor. She’s thrilled her best friend, Nicole, is having her baby shower at Belle View. However, it’s not the only baby shower her friend is having. Belle View’s competitor is the host for a very fancy baby shower for Nicole hosted by the mother-to-be’s step-mother, Tina.
When one of the baby gifts turns out to be a valuable stolen painting, Tina is stunned. After the party, Mia stumbles upon a dead body. Nicole’s family is under suspicion which is causing Nicole to have problems with her unborn baby. Mia vows to protect Nicole, her child and her family by finding out who the killer is.
This is a fun and exciting series. Mia is such a lovable and sweet character in a family filled with people that are not exactly law abiding. The Carina family and their friends gave me hours of laughter and crazy antics mixed in with a mystery that kept me thinking.
The finale was an adventure that took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting that ending. The author has a wonderful knack for writing cozy mysteries and keeping readers at the edge of their seat. I’m so looking forward to another visit to Queens, New York. As a native New Yorker, I always love a good story centered in my home state.
FTC Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed a free Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Mia Carina and the gang are back for another murder mystery. This time, it’s the stepmother of her best friend Nicole who gets permanently put on ice. There’s suspicion around the source of Tina’s wealth, the mysterious painting she “gifted” but really didn’t gift Nicole at the baby shower, and an art heist from over 20 years ago. Mia as amateur sleuth is quirky, and smart. Unlike other MC, she does hide evidence from the cops, she lets people know what she’s doing and where she’s going, I mean she actually used her brain.. gasp!!! it fun getting to know the recurring employees as well as some of the new ones who flit in and out of the catering hall (Looking at you, Bruno)
Her relationship with Jamie is great and I liked how the author dealt with their friendship/attraction. Overall a good series so far.
for sure. Something seems to happen every time but gets solved. Still enjoying this series and some of the recipes look pretty interesting. Baby shower turn out to be a mess with a death. Well it did end in a plus for the Belle View. They might start to get more customers but I’m sure that means more crimes happening. Hahaha oh and I think I’m going to give the cannoli cake a try even though I’m not a fan of baking. Hahaha
Take a dramatic Italian family in Queens and stir in some mob connections, a step-mother from the pit, a late pregnancy cousin, art theft, murder, and you get a hilarious cozy mystery. This one works perfectly as a stand alone and anything more being said would be overkill as well as in spoiler territory. Laughed my way through it! I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
LONG ISLAND ICED TINA, is the long anticipated second book in the Catering Hall Mystery series by Maria DiRico (aka award-winning author Ellen Byron). The author proves her writing prowess once again by penning a laugh-out-loud cozy featuring protagonist Mia Carina, daughter of a “recovering” mobster. This alone sets the scene for plenty of opportunities for things to go hilariously wrong when the “Family” is hovering in the shadows and Mia is determined to keep her dad on the straight and narrow. Ms. DiRico enthralls the reader with vivid descriptions of Queens along with other notable New York locations. Using all five senses, the reader feels like they’re experiencing it all – the good and the bad – alongside Mia. Besides the well-developed protagonist, the author has plenty of other supporting characters who are equally appealing and zany providing entertainment all on their own. The quintessential interfering Italian grandmothers, who spout off Italian phrases, give a feeling of authenticity. (And don’t worry, there is plenty of context so you know exactly what they’re saying without knowing a foreign language.)
Combining a murder with a baby shower celebration isn’t a scenario I’ve come across and I have to say, Ms. DiRico does a marvelous job of setting up the crime. It’s not much of a surprise when Mia stumbles across the victim who was hated by so many. When the soon-to-be mom’s mother and grandmother are implicated, Mia steps in to investigate. Adding to the murder mystery is a multifaceted plot involving art theft, a suspicious competing venue owner and chef, and an employee who seems intent on sabotage. As the story progresses the threads come together into a cohesive story and I turned the pages faster and faster to find out what happened next. While the action-packed reveal provided tension, the author interjected just the right dose of humor to keep it cozy light which I appreciate. With the final last page read, I’m back to counting down the days until the next book in this highly entertaining series is released next year!
The theme of running a banquet hall and Mia having an Italian grandmother who loves to cook, there is food galore mentioned throughout the story. I was pleased to see that there are a number of recipes included at the back of the book, all which sound fantastic!
I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Mia Carina manages Belle View Banquet Manor, a catering hall her father, former mob enforcer, Ravello Carina, acquired through interesting circumstances. She is excited that one of her upcoming events is a baby shower for her friend Nicole. But then she learns that this is not the only shower being held for the mother-to-be. Her stepmother, Tina has booked another shower at the ritzy Versailles on the Park. Nicole invites Mia to the other shower and she gladly accepts because it will give her the chance to check out the upscale competition. She also sees the very selfish style of Tina and understands how she was given the nickname of step-monster.
The shower at Belle View gets off to a great start, that is until Tina shows up unfashionably late and gets into a fight with the host, Nicole’s grandmother, Minnie. The event really gets even more crazy when one of the gifts appears to be a priceless stolen painting from the step-monster herself. But Tina denies the gift is from her especially when the police arrive to investigate the artwork that has been missing for years. Thinking the worst is behind her Mia is ready to head home but then she sees the body, the body floating in the marina behind Belle View.
Ms. DiRico has created such wonderful characters. Our protagonist Mia Carina is trying so hard to make Belle View Banquet Manor a success while doing a little sleuthing on the side. She is surrounded by a wide-ranging group of supporting characters that will have you laughing out loud and shaking your head. Her Nonna is involved in many things throughout the story but one of her exploits had me laughing so hard I had tears running down my face. Mia is also trying to master a skill with her “friend” Jamie’s help which also generated some comedic moments. I know murder is a serious subject but this author knows how to bring the funny in all the right places. I loved the way she did this.
Okay, back to the serious murder. The author plotted a strong complex mystery with a variety of facets. We are introduced to several new characters/suspects as Mia chases down clues, sometimes with Jamie’s help. I really enjoyed following along with Mia for each twist and clue, and there were a lot. My suspect list shuffled several times. The big reveal was very surprising and exciting. In addition to the main mystery, the author blends in some memorable subplots.
I have so much fun visiting this Italian family for all the crazy exploits. There truly is never a dull moment when the Carina family is involved.
Long Island Iced Tina is a captivating cozy with a mystery that will test readers as they try to keep up with Mia. It was most definitely A Perfect Escape!
OH MY GOSH I LOVE THESE BOOKS. THIS is how you write a cozy mystery!!
I waited past the due date so I could listen to the audiobook because I absolutely loved the first one with its awesome narrator. I am telling you, if you are from NYC, have lived any amount of time in NYC, you will want to listen to the audiobook. It makes like "coming home". I am back in the city I love when I listen to these and it is glorious. All I need is a good cup of coffee and some cannolli!!
Mia and Co are doing well in this edition of the series and Bellevue Catering Hall is both holding it's own and even thriving. People have forgotten about the previous murders [or are at least not talking about it anymore every second] and are booking events. So much so, Mia knows that they have to hire some more staff to stay on top of orders and make the events even more special [Ah. Benji. He is something that is best not talked about and experienced first hand. But I may have sprained my eyes when he was on the page], so she starts going to different events at different halls to see what they are offering. Enter stolen art, smuggling and ultimately, a dead body. And Mia is swept up in trying to solve the crime, keep peace within her family and help her grandmother deliver shoes to the afterlife. This was a very good read and I had NO IDEA who the killer was and the reveal was REALLY good. I enjoyed every second of this book and cannot wait for book 3 [there had better be a BOOK 3!!!!]. I highly recommend this one!!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Maria DiRico, and Kensington Books for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Dare I say it… I think Long Island Iced Tina by Maria DiRico may be even better than Here Comes the Body, the first book in the Catering Hall Mysteries. I love when this happens!
I can’t say that having a mob family in a cozy hasn’t been done before, but DiRico does it so well. The family dynamics read as true for an Italian family, and where this series really shines is in the character development. The elders in the family and community trying to show each other up makes for some interesting scenes. And the mission to deposit a pair of shoes into a casket had me amused. I think getting together Stephanie Plum’s grandma and Mia’s would be a hoot.
DiRico went in a different direction with the love angle, which I really enjoyed. I hate when they drag on in cozies, but I think how it was handled was great and I am excited to see how Mia handles having to be friends with the three other people involved… I really want to say more, but don’t want to give any spoilers. And I think the new hire at the end is going to really add some great scenes in future books.
As for the mystery… it was a heist. I love heists!!! I’ve seen The Italian Job and all the Ocean’s (8, 11, 12, & 13) numerous times… so I really appreciated that DiRico used a heist in the story. And I really liked how she had the Family help confirm her suspicions. It was a great way to incorporate more of the mob into the story.
The Catering Hall Mysteries is one series that I make sure to keep up to date with so I know as soon as the next book is coming out. I highly recommend that you give it a shot.
I loved the first book in this series, and this one did not disappoint. Mia once again finds her catering hall business at the center of a police investigation. The police are closing in on those she cares about, so she steps in to try to solve the mystery and send other potential suspects their way. Mia's family and friends continue to be just so much fun, and I really enjoy the escapades her grandmother gets into. The shoe thing was everything. I liked the direction this was heading at the end, and I am so excited for the third book to come out so I can find out what happens next.
I had so much fun reading this book. I love Mia and her family. Her father is hysterical and her grandmother always makes me laugh. This story involves stolen artwork, a new wife who has a shady past, and Mia’s newest employee who can’t get anything right. This is a fast paced book that will leave you wondering way the heck happened. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store next for Mia.

Mia grew up in a Mafia Family, but her beloved father has gone straight, running the Family's legitimate catering hall, Belle View, with Mia's help. Mia's best friend Nicole is having a series of baby showers, with stepmonster Tia hogging the spotlight. At the shower at Belle View, one of the gifts turns out to be a stolen painting. When Tina's body is found on the premises the next morning, Mia worries about bad publicity, but even more that members of Nicole's family may be suspected. With the help of her currently incarcerated brother, the Capo of the mob, and even the New York police, Mia finds the culprit--but not before endangering herself.
Di Rico has some great characters in Mia, her grandmother Elisabetta and her dad, Ravello. Cammie isn’t a favorite of mine and her laziness was getting a bit old after reading about it in two books—I hope she gets a little more ambition in book 3 although she is useful when it comes to her ex-husband, Pete. Pete, the local detective, is a hoot with his Steve Stianopolis self-published books. Mia’s brother, Posi, adds to her crime solving skills and his own brand of humor. And, of course, my perennial favorites – pets—Doorstop the cat and Pizzazz the parakeet.
Di Rico gives her readers a fun mystery to solve along with Mia—where did the stolen painting come from? Why did is surface now? And how was it stolen in the first place?
Love this series & love this author! This was a fun, humorous cozy with wonderful characters and mystery. Definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys an excellent cozy.
Mia Carina is trying to give her best friend the most memorable baby shower possible and when murder makes the event unforgettable, Mia has to uncover a murderer before she becomes the next victim!
The mystery was so much fun to read! It kept me guessing and I loved all the "twists and turns" and "red herrings". Mia is coming into her own with Belle Vie. I enjoy seeing her gain confidence in her business and sleuthing skills. There are so many wonderful supporting characters - Mia's father and grandmother, the neoghbors, her "crush" Jamie and the staff at Belle Vie keep me grinning. I also like the addition of the members of the "Family" and the characters who made up Mia's father's world before he went legit. The author makes New York and all its burroughs come alive which adds to the enjoyment of the series!
I was completely wrong about "whodunit" and I loved it! I'm looking forward to another visit to the Big Apple with Mia and her crew!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
