I was given an ARC of this book and found it to be a great adventure. It's imaginative and filled with action. It's the second book in this series and carries on Royce's journey to quell the nobles and their cruel ways. There are surprises, twists and turns and the fantastical elements are making themselves known.

Genevieve also has a journey and we understand her sacrifices and sadness.

There are villains and heroes and those in between, all making for a compelling read.

The world-building sets the scenes for location and battles, while thoughts and feelings run high.

This is an enjoyable and entertaining read and I look forward to more.

Good but mistake full

Book #2 was still a good read but I was distracted by the many differences from book 1. Book 1 - Black Isle #2 Red Isle, #1 Moira friendly #2 adversary,
#1 father dead and pull sword and Royce locked up #2 father missing, get armor , go on mission for item & father and introduction on semi-immortal woman and gray man, etc.

Love and betrayal as only Morgan Rice can deliver!

Royce, 17, fleeing from pursuers after killing the Duke, joins forces with peasants who look to him for leadership in a rebellion. Meanwhile, back in the castle, Genevieve is accused of delaying the delivery of a message that would have aided in his capture. The late Duke’s brother, Alistair, has ripped control of the kingdom from her husband, Altfor, and forced him to swear fealty. In his anger, Altfor sends Royce’s three brothers to the gibbet on killing hill and orders Genevieve’s family slaughtered. Alistair is now on a rampage to destroy anything and anyone related to the rebellion before Royce can turn the tide of control and save his brothers. Genevieve must choose between forsaking Royce and pursuing her own plan to bring down the nobility.

This book is filled with battles, cruelty, betrayal and alliances. Once again, Morgan Rice has delivered an exciting adventure story! I was given an ARC and I finished it in one day. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Much better than the previous one. it still has the feeling that previous storyline was combined to make a new novel. Or just bit's and peices that have been reworked and still have certain similarly.
With that being said this was a much better read. Characters are evolving or just growing up. I can't wait to see how everything works out.

Disappointing

I wasn’t a fan of the format… completely changing the storyline from the first book. I was expecting this book to pick up from where book one ended, instead of going over much of what book one covered. I hoping I’m not wasting my time going further with the next book.

This is a great adventure. The characters are real and lovable and have a lot of depth to them. Every one was a page turner and I couldn’t stop reading it. I truly enjoyed the story and I desperately want to see how everything unfolds in the next book.

I love Morgan Rice and the series she creates. This is another captivating adventure of rivalry adversaries with a hint of Romeo and Juliet thrown in along with Robin Hood. It's mystical, it's war, it's love, it's life.

It's good. 👍

Just as captivating as the first one. And.. yes, I was screaming in my car (audio book) at Geneviève. How does she dare to send Royce away like that and then come back after the fight! 😵‍💫😱

For now: all in one team Olivia 🥰

On to book 3......

I think after reading book 1 and book 2 I missed something important. I'm hoping that book 3 will set me straight.

An other adventure

I really enjoyed this episode. It was very carefully crafted. It was a little too simple and needed more complex character s.

Audiobook - 1.75 stars. Dare I say, it got better? Or maybe I lowered my standards after the first book and just went along for the ride. There's so many little battle sequences where I didn't realize they were battling until halfway through. There's absolutely no build up or suspense. It's just, hey look a man sees another man and swords clash now man is dead. And we move on to the next topic. It's bad but I just, it's like, I don't know, a train wreck. I can't look away because I'm morbidly curious as to how it's going to turn out.
