With the amount of time I spent licking this image through my computer screen I would say yes. Yes, I do.
Black Jack was an interesting read. It was a mix of two stories mingled into one. The first being a contemporary story of two best friends - Jack and Emma who are forced to act out a raunchy scene on stage when two of Emma’s acting staff members call in sick at her kinky nightclub. But the scene goes beyond merely acting....
The second story is about pirate Black Jack and his sassy captive Emma.
Both stories were hot...HAWT! Ranging from spanking, sex in public, sex with toys including gags, vibrators, restraints, ice and wax. There is also some back door entry....and I’m not talking about the stage door people. I enjoyed both stories, but pirate Black Jack was definitely a lot more my style. There was more drama with Black which I felt the contemporary lacked.
Two things I feel I sorta, kinda need to mention. I know I sound awfully vanilla with this, but I hate the use of the word C U Next Tuesday. I know, I KNOW. It’s erotic romance, but I just don’t like it. Call it a pussy, call it bearded clam, beaver, cootchie, muff, breadbasket, vertical smile, magic muscle, cum-hole, cock-pit, passion pit, open wound, garage, love pouch, hot box, seething gash, porcupine, tunnel of love, snapper, red snapper, whisker box, temple of delight, whisker biscuit, hair pie, fish taco, moist oyster, fun hole, fur burger, magic grail, magic monkey, pink tortelini, just don’t call it c*nt. Ok, probably don’t call it fur burger or seething gash either, but I really don’t like c*nt. I don’t know why but it sounds derogatory to me.
2nd thing. Sexy Black Jack, kinda, sorta forces himself onto Emma at one point. I didn’t have a problem with it, but for those people who believe no means no – instead of no being the starting point for negotiations (as my husband says), I think they may have a problem with it.
Purch Amazon Feb 13, 2018 Black Jack by Mari Carr Genres; Adult, Contemporary, Erotica, Romance 4 Stars
Interesting concept for a story the way this is laid out. A mixture of a pirate fantasy intertwined with the both MC's reality. It's like a story within a story. It was cute, fun, hot, steamy and 'Oh My Erotic'. I loved it. Came close to making it 5 stars but there were some areas that dragged and others that were repetitive thoughts. I hate repetitive info no matter what form it comes in. Ergo, 4 solid stars.
This was not the pirate story I was expecting. Black Jack tells two different stories, sort of. It features Jack and Emma.....two lifelong best friends. Emma manages a fetish club, called Scoundrels. The third guy in their BFF trio, Travis, owns the club. So Emma calls in Jack to fill in as an actor in a pirate fantasy show they're doing at the club. The male actor called in sick - and as Emma is helping Jack through the scene, they find out that the female lead has also called in sick - forcing Emma to take over that role. As the two best friends are rehearsing the scene, some of their not-so-well-hidden feelings for each other come to the forefront and their rehearsal leads to some hot dry humping and fondling and eventually Emma has a powerful orgasm. Naturally, this could be a somewhat awkward situation for two lifelong BFFs who have never gone past the "just friends" stage.
After their performance in the pirate fantasy, it become clear that they can't be "just friends" anymore. Both confess that they've always had feelings for each other - and actually - that they are in love with each other - and they move quite smoothly into the girlfriend/boyfriend roles.
The pirate part of the story is told as a fantasy in each of their minds - a fantasy that was inspired by their fantasy play at the club. It seems like both stories wouldn't work together, but they do.....so effortlessly. And really, who hasn't had a pirate fantasy? Geez. H.O.T.
But there's more to it than that. Jack is into some kinky stuff - sex in public (which is why he agreed to sub for the actor in the first place), whips, chains, wax play....all kinds of stuff. Stuff he didn't think that Vanilla Emma would be down with. Oh, but was he wrong. But he has a thick skull....and it takes him a while to believe that Emma really is into it all.
I know this story is the first of a two part series - and thank goodness, because I need for Travis (the 3rd BFF) to find his HEA. He prefers to shy away from the crowd and he likes to watch the activities in his club from the two way mirror in his top floor office. He also like to get off while he watches, so his story should be quite interesting.
I loved everything about Black Jack. I thought it was sweet without being sugary and incredibly hot without being unrealistic. And besides that, who hasn't had the fantasy that their perfect mate and the love of their life will turn out to be a best friend who has been there all along and who knows you better than anyone. Throw in pirates - and good Lord - it's kind of the perfect scenario.
My only complaint (sort of) is that the story is just too short. But I always say that with any novella that I love. I always want more; I'm selfish like that. The thing I love about Mari Carr's stories is that the characters are always fully fleshed out, despite the fact that the story is novella-length. You know who these people are and you care about them, and really, if wanting to know more about these people because I find them so compelling is the only thing I have to complain about, well, then, I think that's OK.
Wow, now this is what I call a yummy alpha male. I can't put my finger on what makes Jack so appealing, but wow. He was commanding but in such a sexy way. I've read some stories where commanding just seems bossy and not sexy at all. That was totally not the case with Jack. Plus this is a friends to lovers story, which I love, so that was an added bonus. One point deducted for the use of "turgid". (I'm beginning to think it's not quite a Mari Carr story without turgid, but I wish she'd use another word, lol.) The dual stories of the pirate fantasy with Jack and Emma's growing relationship was interesting. And the sex, as usual, was quite steamy. I look forward to reading Travis's book because he obviously needs an HEA.
Tempted is a phenomenal contemporary romance by Mari Carr. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Carr has delivered a well-written book. The characters in this friends to lovers tale are outstanding and make this book fun to read. Emma manages Scroundrels, a fetish nightclub. Her best friend Jack owns a security business but could be found most nights at the club. Emma and Jack's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle and a little kink. I enjoyed reading Tempted and look forward to reading more from Mari Carr soon. Tempted is book 1 of the Scoundrels Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Being friends since elementary school, Emma and Jack know everything about each other, right? When her job putting on light BDSM fantasy recreations brings them into intimate contact feelings she never thought about with Jack has both of them rethinking their relationship. The storytelling makes us think we’re right there with them. Love his sexy short read.
Really enjoyed this book, renamed Tempted: Friends to Lovers Romance (Scoundrels Book 1). Interesting combination of reality and fantasy. Loved the two main characters - Jack and Emma - delightful tension between two strong, independent individuals. Great story kept me interested from the start, and the realisation of the subtle (or not!) shift from friends to lovers… sweet, steamy, tense, explosive…
Entertaining friends to lovers story. Jack, Emma and Travis have been friends since childhood. Emma and Travis own a nightclub that puts on fetish fantasy performances on the weekends. When the male and female lead can't make a performance, Jack and Emma get roped into performing - with an attraction to each other that is undeniable. The chemistry between Jack and Emma is explosive.
It's one thing for best friends to call for each other and another to express their kink. This story was steaming, I loved the alter life that was just as hot. The characters , loved the portrayal of life long friends.
Filthy. Sweet. Satisfying. Emma and Jack have known each other since they were little kids. They finally act on their feelings. And they mix a little kink in. It was a quick fun read.
I love this authors writing , have read many books and this one did not disappoint me . I really liked the draw that was between Jack and Emma . Can best friends really make a go at a relationship ? Read to find out what happens between Jack and Emma
This is my first story by Mari Carr and I have to say I loved it. I love stories with dominant men and strong female leads, who both end up getting what they both need from a relationship. I'll definitely have to look up more of her stories.
great story within a story format. Both of them were hot, interesting and romantic. Kept my attention and was hard to put down. Read in one evening. Fun, sexy and I loved it. Looking forward to #2
Mari Carr has always written hot and sexy romance stories, with delightful characters and wonderful settings. With Black Jack, however, she has taken the heat level to stratospheric new levels.
Scoundrels is the most popular club of its kind. The people of Los Angeles come to experience the fetish shows, and the club regularly sells out each performance. When the male lead in the pirate fantasy calls in sick for the last performance, Emma convinces long time friend Jack to fill in for the night. As manager, Emma knows Jack will be perfect in the role. When the female lead begs off at the last minute, it’s too late to find a replacement, so with some trepidation, Emma is forced to assume the role of the captive of the pirate. What happens next shocks Emma and Jack, and life for the two of them will never be the same. Jack has always known he was a dominant, and has always longed for the perfect submissive to love. He and Emma and Travis have been friends since first grade, but Jack is shocked to discover that his friend Emma has been hiding a secret, one she wasn’t even aware of-she is perfect for Jack’s desires. When their performance at the fetish club awakens Emma’s submissive side, Jack discovers just how perfect they are together. Can Emma accept all of Jack’s desires? How can she show Jack what she wants, when he won’t take the time to listen? Will these two ever find out how Travis engineered their first performance?
With the combination of the pirate fantasy intermingled with the romance burgeoning between Jack and Emma in real life, things go past the boiling point quickly. There was one confusing spot in this, when Ms. Carr changes the club name, but it wasn’t enough to make me stop reading.
Emma Potter is a strong and independent woman, confident in her abilities and used to being in charge of her life. She has been best friends with Jack and Travis since they were all in grade school together. She manages the fetish club owned by her reclusive friend Travis with skill and success, making it the in place to be. A part of her has been fighting her attraction to Jack for most of her adult life, knowing she would never live up to his fantasies with her very vanilla love life. I enjoyed watching as Emma opened up to the possibilities before her.
Jack Carlysle is everything a woman could want: handsome, strong and loyal to his friends. He has been a bit in love with Emma for most of his life, but never thought she could accept his dominance in the bedroom. When that secret surfaces, Jack is torn between desire and fear-desire for the strong and feisty woman he has loved for years, and fear that his desires could push her away. I love that Jack was willing to curb some of his stronger desires to keep the woman he loves in his arms and in his bed, and loved his delight at discovering her hidden depths.
There is only one secondary character here, the reclusive third friend Travis, and he is a mystery man. I enjoyed watching him manipulate his two best friends into getting their hearts desire in each other, and I hope Ms. Carr will revisit the club to give us a look into the secrets he is guarding so closely. This is an intriguing look into fetish clubs and the BDSM lifestyle, told as only Mari Carr does, with lots of hot sex and passion flowing off the pages. One warning, this should be read with the air conditioner on high and plenty of ice at hand-and you might even save some ice for drinks.
For years, Jack has secretly wanted his best friend Emma. He doesn’t want to ruin their friendship by chasing after her, especially when he’s sure that she’ll never want to submit to him. But when Emma needs him, Jack is there. Even when what she needs him for is to play the part of a lusty pirate as part of a fetish fantasy being staged at the nightclub she manages. Jack agrees, and is delighted when further problems at the club lead to Emma filling in as his leading lady. One night on stage changes everything for the both of them. Jack knows he and Emma can never go back to the way things were, especially once Jack discovers that Emma’s desires aren’t as far off from his own as he’d once thought.
Black Jack is wicked eroticism at its best! Mari Carr has spun a fantastic tale of fetish, fantasy, and friendship blossoming into love. Jack and Emma are wonderfully likeable characters who’ve always cared about one another but have never been sure enough of themselves or each other to take that step that would alter their relationship. With some behind-the-scenes help of the duo’s other best friend, Travis, Jack and Emma are thrown into a situation that pushes their desires to the forefront, leaving them no room to hide. I loved both the sensual and romantic chemistry between Jack and Emma and it was easy to fall into their story. Ms. Carr made me care about these two, and I practically devoured Black Jack in my haste to see this pair get their happily ever after.
Black Jack is the first Scoundrels book and boy, oh boy, does Ms. Carr have me on the edge of my seat for Travis’s book. While I wait for the heartbreakingly isolated Travis to find a love of his own, I’ll happily sit back and enjoy the piratical Jack seducing his “captive” Emma over and over again.
Reviewed By: Ive Review Copy Provided By: Publisher What better way to let your best friend know you are in love with them than by acting sexual fantasies on stage at a BDSM club. Emma gets into a bind and when the show must go on Jack is there to the rescue to help her in any way shape or form. Literally in any shape, way or form since the sexual fantasy they will be playing out on stage will have Emma in some very compromising positions. With the help of their buddy and also Emma's business partner Travis, they are sure to set the stage on fire. But will Emma really know Jack's true intentions, that is something he has to make sure he can convince her of.
A little back story on this book, Mari Carr came up with this idea thru a conversation happening one day on a Yahoo group chat. Pirates were the talk du jour and ideas were getting bounced off and voila all of a sudden she starts getting ideas in her head and the rest as they say is history. This is by far my favorite Mari Carr story. I love the chemistry between Jack and Emma, there is just something about friends to lover's stories that I am intrigued about and Mari always do these justice. And oh my goodness the intimate scenes are scorchers, even made me blush which I didn't think it was possible. Love the way it blended modern world with old world, very fascinating. Can't wait for Travis story!
This was a fresh, fun, and sexy way of spicing up a friends-to-lovers storyline.
Best friends since childhood, they've never acted on their crush and underlying sexual tension. Emma is the manager (and part owner along with their other best friend, Travis Knight) of a nightclub that caters to the elite of society. The main attraction are the fetish fantasy shows she helps to organize. When the main actor and actress for the pirate fantasy fall ill, Emma needs to find a replacement. She asks Jack to do her a favor and play the part of the pirate. To her horror, he suggests she play the part of the pirate's captive. One taste of the fantasy along with a little clever wickedness from Jack, and Emma is discovering things she didn't know or has tried to suppress.
The author takes us on Jack and Emma's journey of discovery by switching between the historical fantasy scenes and the real world scenes. I thought it was really well done because I never felt like I was reading about two different couples. The scenes were very steamy and Jack was just swoon-worthy. Having them fall in love in this novella didn't feel rushed because of their extensive history around each other. I found it easily believable. It' was just like they said "it's about damn time!"
When I reached the last page, the prologue finally made sense. Sneaky.
I loved the background story and build up of the sexual tension between Jack and Emma. It made my heart race. The verbal sparring back and forth was perfect; it gave the characters real depth and showed the history between them.
Emma is not sure about getting involved with her best friend, Jack. He’s a dominant and she’s sure that a submissive role won’t suit her. After one practice scene with Emma, Jack can’t believe he’s missed what’s been in front of him forever. Emma’s a closet sub and he knows just how to draw her out and push her limits.
Black Jack is a story within a story. The fantasies that Jack and Emma play out on stage find their way into their real life; becoming day dreams that won’t be ignored. This is a really fun story that will pull you in from the first line and keep the pages turning.
The secondary character and third friend, Travis, has a twisted tale I can’t wait to read. At least I hope Mari Carr will share his story with us! Travis is a great complimentary character to this story and will leave the reader wondering.
Black Jack by Mari Carr has heart, hot sex, erotic fantasies, and a little mystery. It’s well written and not to be missed.
When I read the blurb I had an idea of what what I was going to read however it was completely wasn't what j expected but in a good way. There are two stories being told here, fantasy and reality but they connect to one another. This is a novella so it's a short short of two friends who are thrown into a situation that results to them sharing there true feeling for one another. I didn't expect how these characters reacted to certain things which makes for a great read it was predictable. The sex scenes were hot and steamy. I'm interested in Travis's story there's something really interesting about him. One of the things that I wasn't comfortable in was the voyeurism fetish Travis participates especially when it involves your friend, I guess they have a real close relationship when you're comfortable with your friend is watching you in a two-way mirror. I understand it's a fetish show but he purposely has that mirror to watch people. Maybe there's a deeper reason behind it guess we have to read White Knight.
This book blends the fantasy of a maiden being captured and ravished by a handsome pirate in both a historical and modern context. The historical is told in flashback form from the perspective of both Jack and Emma, childhood friends who have avoided telling each other of their love because they don't want to mess up their friendship. Jack has deep, dominant, sexual desires that he longs to fulfill with Emma. Emma has control issues and initially does not realize the freedom that submission will provide. When they end up performing a fantasy scene at the BDSM club Emma manages, the sparks fly and set the stage for them to start a relationship. The characters are believable, the sex scenes are hot and well done. Once again, Mari Carr has delivered a steamy book that will raise your libido and leave you smiling!
Not what I was expecting, and I am pleasantly surprised.
I keep looking for examples of erotica done well, and this one is on my list. Two interwoven stories, one "real" and the other a kind of shared fantasy based on an erotic play the two were manipulated into performing.
The weaving of the two stories give the reader much more insight into the character's thoughts, motivations, and development than a normal expository narrative. The author intertwines the tales quite well giving both fantasy and fiction solid erotic scenes which mostly hold the reader's attention.
And while the story comes from three different perspectives, we really only get an in-depth look at development from our heroine. Our heros give us how they are motivated, one as a voyeur, the other as dominate alpha male, but no depth as to how or why. in that way it falls back on the cliche.
Whoa, that was so hot! This couple wastes no time, nor should they have to, after being friends for so many years. Once they cross that line, it is scorched away by the heat they generate, and they keep it up for the duration of the book. One fab thing is that each chapter starts as they really are the characters from the role play they took part in, and that sets us up for what is follow. Loved it all so, so much!
