Going into this I knew I wasn't going to like it but I accidentally signed up to ARC it so the fault is mine for not seeing the bottom of the cover stating it was MMM. Beware of SPOILERS beyond this point!! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!
So I'm going to take a step back and try to objectively view the story.
Starting off in the forward Axel states that he thinks his best friend since high school and his best friends ex are hot and he wants them both in his bed and he hopes it doesn't blow up in his face.
The story starts to break down from there. Axel immediately comes off as very confident and arrogant. He's a football player that hasn't exactly been stellar of late in football but has high hopes for the season. He's interviewed by this "bombshell babe" and gets her digits. Before he leaves the locker room he showers where his mind wanders to his best friend, Riley, who he wouldn't mind messing around with but immediately thinks better of it because, 'Hello!' That's his best friend and he doesn't want to ruin their friendship.'
I'm not saying Riley's innocent because a small part of him while still pining after his ex is lusting a tiny bit after Axel.
The chapters are alternating between three characters Axel (football player and ringleaders of getting in bed with his friend and said friend's ex), Riley, Axel's bestie, and Cain, Riley's maybe cheating/inattentive ex.
A night out clubbing has Axel and Cain running into each other with Riley witness to it all. Axel gets Cain's digit. It upsets Riley who isn't over a Cain though it's been a year since their breakup. Axel seizes the opportunity and plotting with Cain decides that they all should get into bed together. Axel also so graciously offers to step out of the pic if Riley just wants to go exclusive with Cain.
I think my main issue with this story was that Cain and Axel came off as guys who were playing the field and more than willing to follow a hot and willing body. They're both pretty much the same personality type and they come off as the type of people who say, "Hey, as long as the other person never finds out anything goes" type. In their case they didn't even care, considering they blatantly flirted with each other and was willing to hookup in front of Riley in the clubs knowing their connection to Riley. Axel and Cain's first encounter really put that in the forefront and their second meeting wasn't any better. Whereas Riley was the more serious type looking for commitment or being in a relationship. I couldn't help but think the relationship or dynamic wouldn't end well for all involved in the long run even if Riley made them promise to be exclusive. Which also seems to solidify after their first night together. It was just a fail on everyone's part for a second or so. But the author really turned it around in the second half of the book.
That being said the story turned out better than expected. There was good chemistry for all involved. Axel seemed to turn over a new leaf and was the glue that made them all stick. With Riley and Cain in his life his career took off. They managed to build a life together and for all appearances seemed like they were all in it for the long haul.
An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.
