the orchid: poems to love yourself

Rate this book
the orchid is a poetry collection highlighting the eternal truth that all humans, like orchids, are uniquely different and beautiful in their own way. It is the second of four books in the northern collection — a four part poetry journey to one's true north, with all books to be released by the end of 2020.

Written and illustrated by Instagram poet and artist, Kamilla Tolnø, the orchid tells a tale of how humans, just like flowers, have the power and the potential to unfold and bloom. The poems touch upon themes including sensitivity, empathy, hope and all the kinds of love there are - from the one you share with others to the one you find within yourself.

Above all, the orchid is an invitation. The words within its pages welcome the reader to journey into themselves to find their roots - the foundation of all new beginnings. Just as orchids bloom again and again, the orchid poetry collection serves as a reminder for the reader to grow through what they go through. and that no matter what happens, every day is a new day, every page a new page, for the reader to further open up both to themselves and the world.

I loved that I took my time with this one. Every single page gave me something to think about for myself and others. Buying the whole northern collection was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. Can’t wait to move on to book 3!!

Another incredible collection from K Tolnoe!! They just keep getting better! This poet really has a talent with words and how she’s able to say important things so clever and beautifully.

The Orchid had all the spring vibes. It touches upon topics such as rebirth, self blooming, acceptance and so many more. It was an magnificent collection which I highly enjoyed and highlighted tons of pages of! I 100% recommend reading this one and this poet because all I’ve read from her has been more than incredible.

One of my favourites is

art is timeless
in the way it stays relevant
and binds hearts
across generations
the way a stroke of paint
imitates the secret images
hidden on the inside
of our eyelids
or how a story
crawls through our veins
word by words
until it reaches our chest
and stop the beating with an ending
we've heard before
it explains
how some losses and loves
tend to stay with us
in their freshest shapes
how some memories
cannot be dulled or erased
for if it's important enough
to be kept in a human heart
time holds no power

Book 2/4. Again, simply but beautiful. Lots of quote underlined. Loved the understanding of friends being your family, and finding a purpose in kindness

Nicht so meins. Ziemlich kitschig und melodramatisch.
Ich mochte auch nicht dieses: "As a giver you must know your worth the takers wont tell you" und "a good hearts is not always a good thing".

One of the best in Philosophical Poetry

I kind of see a glance of Gibran with the essence of literature in her writings, highly soothing and penetrating.
