Sakurako Kawawa settles into her new apartment with her lazy, easygoing, and stunningly beautiful roommate, Kasumi Yamabuki, who lives life at her own pace.
This four-panel-style comic follows the everyday life of these two high school roommates as they go to class together, tackle the mundane necessities of laundry and grocery shopping for two, and learn more about one another in a cute and heartwarming series of short stories.
i'm rereading this to pick up where i left off and i can't believe i'd forgotten HOW CUTE this volume is. we follow two college students, kasumi and sakurako, in their daily lives. the audience is served tons of delicious tropes: sapphic, cozy, adults in college, roommates, one bed/bath, they're domesticated, parents encouraging their relationship—these are things that you never see in traditionally published japanese manga and i'm pleasantly surprised. it's SO GOOD and this sets a terrific precedent for traditionally published manga. i'm sick of having to overlook shitty manga tropes or stopping cold turkey due to problematic writing/illustrations. sakurako is fully head-over-heels for kasumi in this volume and kasumi, who is a lot more relaxed personality-wise, shows her love in kind. every so often, other sapphic couples will be followed but kasumi and sakurako are the main stars. and it's an ongoing series so i hope they keep this momentum going because I LOVE IT! 💖😭
I don’t think there’s much point in adding a plot synopsis of this book - arguably there’s not much point in doing a review either, but that’s not very fun.
The girls hang out and have a good time. There you go. I do not mind a consistent book - it’s enjoyable, it isn’t boring, and it looks great (amusingly the book’s cover has more fan service than anything in any of the books to date).
I still love Sakurako being the studious, plainer of the pair yet being far thirstier by half. Not to say Kasumi doesn’t have any feelings - her automatic pivot to jealousy is pretty adorable - but she is far less inclined to act on them. Meanwhile Sakurako is practically pursuing Kasumi at this point.
There are some good jokes - there’s a pretty funny escalation involving lip gloss and the bonus section at the end which inserts the pair into classic fairy tales is well realized. Kudos for surprising me by not having Hansel & Gretel be a take on the usual joke about Kasumi’s appetite.
I mean, they could flesh out the side characters more, I guess? If I was going to offer a complaint, that would be it, otherwise I’m getting exactly what I expected from this volume.
3 stars. Rare is the book that knows exactly what it wants to be, achieves it, and happily stays in its lane. I have no complaints with this series staying low-key and it makes a nice, light snack between heavier books.
I love how they're just casually growing to the point where they'd rather live together than apart :,) this one made me laugh out loud a few times. Sakurako's mom asking Kasumi to marry Sakurako's brother so that she's a daughter-in-law... then saying oh you can marry Sakurako instead if you feel like it, LOL. Not the KISSES those were so silly and cute. I like the side characters too!! This just oozes charm and fun, which I needed.
4 stars. Sakurako has become a lot more forward with her feelings towards Kasumi which i really like. She’s bold where Kasumi is much more chill and laid back but you can tell that she has some feelings for her as well. I still think this series is slow going as it is pretty plotless but I seriously love these characters so I don’t mind. I’m here for all of their little silly adventures.
Love it so funny, adorable and love how kasumi is always eating I read one every night can't wait till tomorrow thank you love your art btw your dragon looked fantastic to me at the very end the part where you answer everyone's questions thank you again ^_____^
This is a story about girls who like one another who go to school. There's not much to spawn interest; many other manga do a better job of depicting school life. I'm still down to enjoying some of the art, but most of the art is mediocre also.
