I hear that Tom and Sharon Curtis are back in the romance world and I know that their many, many fans, of which I'm one, are delighted. I haven't read that many of their books, mostly because they were out of print, but the ones I have read, I've adored. And now their out of print books are back thanks to the wonderful world of ebooks.

The Golden Touch is one I hadn't read before. I preordered it as soon as I saw they were going to be rereading it as an ebook. I just finished it and I adored it. Right off the bat I know it's not going to be every romance readers cup of tea. It's very sweet and I know that not everyone enjoys sweet. But it's sweet in a wonderful way. It's dated, though I prefer the word retro. The heroine Kathy Carter is astoundingly innocent and naive and in less skilled hands I would have gritted my teeth, but in the hands of this skilled writing team, I found her very refreshing.

And Neil Stratton, the hero, well he's about as wonderful a hero as they come. Neil is a world famous singer who happens to drop in on Kathy Carters's musical instrument repair business with a broken, old, well loved guitar in Apple Grove Wisconsin. We never see his point of view, that's the way the romance was written back then, but we can assume she like someone he's never met before and completly oblivious and not caring of his rock star status. But he is such a charmer, he charmed me totally and he's just a fictional character.

So that's pretty much the story. He pursues, she retreats. But I had a wonderful time reading about this dance they did. I'm so excited that there are more books in their backlist that I haven't read and fingers tightly crossed there will be more coming up. How many of us are LONGING for Cat's story from The Windflower.

The best way to describe The Golden Touch in a non reading kind of way is having your lap full of adorable little kittens, purring their little hearts out. You just can't help but saying "Aaaaawwwwww'

A guilty pleasure. I read this on a trip to Cyprus in 1991 and to me it's forever linked to that particular holiday. I re-read this recently and still like it, although I'm sure I wouldn't have given this five stars if I had read it just now for the first time.

This probably doesn't deserve four stars -- it's dated, the prose is purple -- but it's so witty and endearing, I'm giving them to it anyway.

I don't usually go for rock star romances but this was very good one. Originally published in 1982, there have been minor tweaks to update it - CDs instead of records but there are still pay phones (I loved when Cathy had to beg for change to make a long distance call!) - overall I think it's probably pretty true to the original.

Neil Stratton is at the top of his rock star game. He happens upon a small music repair shop on his way to a gig and he has his old guitar repaired. Cathy is the shop owner and a widow who loved her husband but was never "in love" with him. The sex was also blah - at least for her. Neil is immediately smitten. Cathy can't figure out what a Rock God would see in her.

Stratton pursues Cathy. Cathy feels guilty that she likes him. She feels she's being disloyal to her husband. They have adult conversations. They sleep together. Have more adult conversations. Eventually get their HEA.

I'm not a musician and certainly not famous but I felt that the Curtises gave a really good insight to what is happening behind the scenes and backstage. I really felt for Cathy when she's backstage and realizes that she can't live like that and just wants to go home. I think it takes real strength of character not to be seduced by what Neil could offer her.

I also liked that this wasn't some "New Adulty" book. Cathy wasn't old, 24, but she'd been married. Owned a business. Had healthy relationships with her family. Neil was older, maybe early 30s, and he didn't have scads of angst or drama to deal with. The book was really about them figuring out how to make their relationship work and then going about doing just that.

3 and 1/2. I enjoyed this book despite the heroine’s annoying behavior and the fact that I usually don’t care for books about characters who are famous. Great humor and writing
