DNF @ 51%.

Prophesies, they've become so cliche. It's starting to annoy me when I read about this quiet, nondescript character who has been through a lot. Somehow she is singled out and given immeasurable power to fulfill some half baked prophesy. It's a snooze fest.

There is nothing unique about the character, her voice is like the multitudes you see if you read a lot of these academy books. She is blessed and hiding it because she doesn't want to be in charge of saving the world. She is forced to go to the Academy and is immediately hated by the popular girls for absolutely no reason, she has a quirky roommate that is full of snark, during the big reveal of what she is , she discovers that she is blessed by all the angels, some sad little story follows as well, she listens to some rando that tells her about the vision he had of her death and she immediately leaves the academy where she is then kidnapped.

I'm not in the mood for that. As I write this review I can remember three books that went just like this. So I'll pass.

I knew when I downloaded this book of Kindle Unlimited that it probably wasn't going to be good. I haven't found many Paranormal Romance's on KU that are. So why did I read it? Because I'm sick and frustrated with it so I may as well channel that annoyance into a gif-filled review. Spoilers ahead.

Blessed: Academy of the Seraph by Brandi Elledge is a fantastic YA paranormal fantasy story that had me enthralled all the way through. I loved it. All I could think about is how many hours of work I had left before I could pick it up again. Brandi did good with this story and her writing style has the ability to transport you right into the story. The plot is gripping, and the characters are deep, complex and relatable. The world she has envisioned is complex and believable and beautifully woven. It has all the ingredients and magic to make for a great read. There is suspense and heartache, fun and humour, action and adventure, second chance and romance. I absolutely loved it. I am now anxiously waiting for the book.

Well well well.. looky here at this little diamond in the rough. First of all, cover.. gorgeous. I immediately one clicked of course. So far I am really loving the world build, the slow revealing backstory, and even the flashback memories happening. The angst ya'll. The angst is so real here. I could almost cut it with a knife.

Gabriella, our FMC, has been trying to lie low and fly under the radar. In this world angels and demons live among humans. Every so often a test is set up to find humans with angel/demon "blessings" these blessings having been past down through generations in what was an effort to help humanity. Now these blessings are a curse and depending on your power level a one way trip to an army.. whether is heavenly or demonic is of course your choice but both sides are going to put up a fight for you. Our FMC just wants a free normal life, her powers however can are no longer going undetected.. she must do the test. Of course that leads to a one way ticket to the academy where she meets her past, present and maybe even future.

I was totally riveted by the complex creative story here and I really just want to know where it is headed... It seems Gabriella is more than just a little "blessed" in fact she is something else all together. Can't wait for the next one!

“For she is my light, and I’m so afraid of the dark”

It was cute. Decently well written. The action scenes could have been written better. They felt very monotone.

I will be continuing the series.

Gabriella Arien is a chosen one….. reluctantly so

I know, I know, another YA Academy book, but hear me out… you… have… not… read… this… one…. yet. “Blessed. Academy of the Seraph“ by Brandi Elledge goes well beyond the scope of the genre. It is a well-written, coming-of-age story about the implications of duty and self-determination, all of them nicely packed into an academy theme with a big bow of jocularity…. Highschool use to be Hell (cf. Joss Whedon), nowadays Academy is heavenly twisted.

A long time ago the Archangels took pity on humans as a terrible plague threaten to erase them from the face of earth. Against all heavenly rules and possible their own better judgement, the Archangel chose to infuse some of them with a healing essence. Throughout the ages this essence has been genetically preserved and can still be found in some of the descendants of those selected few. Now every human undergoes testing at the age of sixteen and the “chosen ones” get a place at the Academy of Seraph to train for the battle between good and evil, but there is more… always is 😊 the essence of fallen angels can also be found in humans, and those lucky ones get enrolled at the Empowered Academy.

A great honor that every teenager is hoping to reach… or not. Gabriella Arien has not interest whatsoever on being “blessed” or as she would put it “infected” and has been dodging the system for over a year now…. Until the system catch with her. As far as Gabrielle is concerned there is not point (honor, grace, call it whatever you like 😉) in getting a bunch of teenagers to fight against each other for the benefit of angels, fallen or otherwise.

Gabriella has a slight problem, she is blessed, not doubt on that, but she also has a plan, fail the test by any means necessary: deny any supernatural activity, concentrate on “taco eating glitter spewing unicorns” (better to be classified as crazy than blessed) and go home to live a ordinary, boring, human life…. best laid plans and all that…

The book can only be described as delightful, with an original and interested premise, interesting world-building, wonderful characters, Gabriella’s philosophy of life and her non-nonsense approach to the action is the source of multitude of smiles, some grins and the occasional lol, she is the most likeable and relatable reluctant heroine since Buffy.

Blessed: The Academy of Seraph by Brandi Elledge

5+++++++++ Stars
(This deserves so many more)

I'm sitting here staring at my screen speechless...Where do I begin?

This is my first book by Brandi Elledge, not sure why but it is, it will absolutely not be my last.

I won't lie, I threw my kindle when i finished, I may or may not have also said a few curse words when it ended. When I was done I immediately pulled up everything I could find because I MUST have the next in this series, I was all ready to one click when I see it's not even out yet. Throw in a few more curse words here.

This book was completely amazing..it had me reading till the yawns made it impossible to stay awake, then jumped back in needing to finish it, yet not wanting to because I didn't want it to end. The flow of this story was complete and utter perfection...the genre is not one I normally choose, but the cover drew me in and some of the reviews had me too curious to pass it up. I usually get lost or lose interest but not this time. The dialogue throughout the entire story was so enjoyable and even though a few of my suspicions were spot on it did not matter, there were still some things I'd have never guessed.

There is no doubt in my mind that Remy has been added to one of my favorite supporting characters ever! “Bless her sweet ghostly heart” Then there's Finn *insert huge sigh here* and this author transported me into the story and I felt like I was on Gabriella’s journey with her! This book was full of absolutely everything I love about reading. Finding a new author, falling in love with a book from a genre I usually struggle with, absolutely everything!

I usually make myself notes so that I can catch myself up before the next book in a series comes out...Im not doing that this time, this time I will just read it again, and probably again!

PHENOMENAL STORY!!! Many many thanks to this author, and please please please I truly must have the next as soon as possible!

This is the first book that I have read from this author and wow she now has a new fan. I normally don’t read young adults books but I’m so glad I did. I fell in love with the cover and then the amazing characters in this story. This is the first book of the Academy of Seraph. This book was a perfect way to start an addictive series. I could not put this book down until the end. It only took me a full day to devour this amazing story. I can’t wait and see what is next for these unforgettable characters.

Gabriela is not your normal seventeen year old. She was blessed by the angles and gave her some powers that she doesn’t even know how strong they are. Gabriela gets thrown into a new world that she doesn’t want to be in. She is now one of the students in the school for the gifted called the The Seraph Academy. Gabriela feels like she doesn’t belong but she quickly finds out that she is the best. She is shocked when she meets the commander of the school. He makes her feel things that she should not be feeling yet. Gabriela finally makes some friends but are they really her friends? Will Gabriela find out her true power or will someone want to take it from her?

Hands down one of the best books I’ve read all year- if not ever!!! Honestly if I could give it more stars I would!!! I CAN NOT WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THE NEXT BOOK/S!!!!
Blessed: Academy of the Seraph is the first book in the new Academy of the Seraph series by the supremely talented Brandi Elledge. I absolutely LOVE Ms. Elledge’s books- she is one of my favourite authors- on the top 5 list- so it was a given that I would be reading this story. But to say I was blown away is an understatement- I couldn’t have loved it more than I do! I have read it twice already- and will read it again before the next book releases in a few months time- that’s how good it is!
This book has a little bit of The Mortal Instruments feel to it- but with its own identity and originality. The way this series is shaping up, it is set to be exceptional!!! I am so excited to see what lays ahead. I have a serious addiction to Ms. Elledge’s stories now, and I need my next fix like STAT!
“Blessed” is a multilayered extravaganza of a fantasy that captured me right from the first page- I couldn’t have put it down, even if I’d wanted to- it is completely spellbinding!!! The story is woven around angels and demons, immortals, magic, action, adventure, prophecy, secrets, humour, taco’s, unicorns and puppies (you need to read the story to get the reference to the last three 😊).
I really don’t want to give too much away, because you really should read all the exciting details for yourself. So, I will just give you a basic run down- a little taste of what to expect. Gabriella Arien is what they call ‘blessed’- as in touched by angels kind of blessed. There is also a war raging between the angels and the fallen and their demons. There are two Academies looking to recruit new ‘soldiers’- The Seraph Academy (Angel Academy) and the Empowered Academy (the Darken/Fallen Academy). There are compulsory trials held regularly to pick/find new recruits who have been ‘touched’, then gauge their level of power before being trained. Gabriella has managed to avoid the last few trials as she wants no part of the academy, or the war. But she is finally forced to attend, and so her adventure begins. She will soon discover that there is far more to her, to the Academy of Seraph, and to the whole situation than she could ever have imagined. As danger begins stalking her, she is going to have to decide who should she trust? And can she keep under the radar long enough to figure things out? With betrayal, politics, power plays, hidden agendas, magnetic chemistry, and an incredible adventure- this story is truly a riveting read!! I can not recommend it highly enough!!!
Brilliant!!!!

Thank you, Brandi Elledge!!!!

I remember why I haven’t read a lot of YA fantasy in a hot minute. Here’s a summary of why:

The MC is stupid. All the details are literally right in front of her and she so dumb she can’t get the big plot points until the end of the book.

The plot is predictable. But I knew this. I wasn’t out here naive. But with the stupidity of the MC and the predictable plot I wasn’t about it.

The character interaction was giving CHILD. It was embarrassing honestly. Bet you this was written by a grown ass adult and they said “yup this is how teenagers speak. OKURRR.” Ew.

The things that saved this book? Finn. Finn. Finn. I mean the main male MC is always the best. Love him of course.

I knew what this entire story was summed up to in the first 10% so with that in mind. I was quite bored, but decided to finish it just to give my little two cents.

3.0 star rating. Finn saved that rating btw.

Wonderful story

I loved this first book in this series. Gabriella was just a foster kid who only wanted to be human and have no part in the Angel war. She had avoided the testing process for two years before they finally caught up to her.

Once she was identified as an Angel she was taken to the academy.

I loved her friends Remy the ghost and her classmate Hannah.

As the story goes on there are many twist and turns that leaves you on the edge of your seat not knowing what will happen.

The ending leaves you stunned and heartbroken as Gabriella finally learns the truth of Finn just to be kidnapped.

Now on to read book 2

Absolutely Loved this book! It definitely made my top ten list. Gabriella is determined to keep her powers under wraps and to avoid a war that has nothing to do with her. When she meets the commander on testing day her whole world is flipped and she is introduced to the academy of the blessed. As she becomes closer to the commander her whole life is flipped yet again as she learns she has been reborn again and is the only weapon that can stop the oncoming war. Little does she know not everyone is as they seem. Don't trust anyone!

We step into a young adult fantasy novel this goes beyond any young adult fantasy I've read before it's drawn into a new world. You want action packed, angels, archangels hidden abilities that's bound to stir up other things. What going to happen tho these special ability students. The Academy is not the safe haven they thought it was. A great fantasy read.

Book one of the academy of the seraph trilogy. I absolutely loved the characters of Gabriella, Hannah, Remy,Finn and Trev. I loved the storyline in this book think of a dangerous angel version of hogwarts. This book was entertaining and enjoyable book to read. I definitely recommend reading this book I can’t wait to see what happens next especially after the surprising cliffhanger at the end of the book.

Gabriella is a seventeen year old girl who lives in a dangerous world of angels and demons. Humanity was suffering from a plague and fifteen archangels decided to break the rules and intervene and heal as many humans they could in one night a good intention however none of them expected the consequences of this action. Azrael, Haniel, Jeremiel, Ariel, Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Jophiel, metatron, Raguel, Raziel, Sandalphon and Zadkiel were betrayed by another Camaella who told Lucifer they’re plan because those healed their generation children would have been blessed or touched and he sought them out. Abbadona is their boss angel that had all of them cast from heaven for breaking the rules making them fallen angels but permanent guardians of earth. Ever since when a child turns 16 they go through testing to see if they will develop powers if they’re touched or blessed and if so will end up in one of two academies the academy of the seraph (light) or the empowered academy (Dark). They train their students to become warriors and fight in war. Those blessed are called demis however those touched by a archangel and a fallen angel are fully blessed both sides fighting over the touched and blessed as prizes. Gabriella just wants to be human she doesn’t want to fight in a war, however she knows she’s different she has dreams of teenagers killing each other, she talks to animals, the trees reach for her, she senses peoples intentions, she’s managed to avoid testing because she bounces from foster homes but now she’s been flagged for testing where she meets the commander of the seraph academy Finn Martinez he tests her and she’s pissed about being forcibly taken to the academy of the seraph, she’s two years behind and needs to catch up in training, she hates the school, the teachers and students. However she befriends her ghost roommate Remy and a girl named Hannah and a boy of Trev. As she gets used to the school and learns more about herself the more danger she’s in. Trev and Finn often compete for her attention, Finn trains her because he knows she’s more powerful than the others. She learns Trev, Finn and her are Nephilims and on her birthday her true powers awaken including her red wings, she and Finn grow closer during her training they have a strange strong connection he first saw her and looked at her like a ghost. Gabriella is the daughter of the archangel Gabriel and along with Azrael, Haniel, Chamuel, Jermiel, Ariel, Uriel and Raphael she’s been blessed by these eight archangels something unheard she learns which powers she’s inherited from which archangel. When a touch or blessed child turns eighteen they become immortal the only thing that can kill an immortal is the flaming sword of Azrael that was stolen but the son of Lucifer got it back and Azrael hid it in a human child to keep it safe that child was Gabriella in a past life known as Ella who was to be married to Finn she’s his lost love. That’s why she must keep her powers hidden because the darken are after the sword to kill the remaining archangels left and there aren’t many left of the fifteen. The students touched by darken attack other students and Gabriella is forced to fight she kills a student with her true powers, and heals a dying Hannah she gets hurt in the fight and recovers unfortunately Trev whom she thought of as a friend has been working for the other dude and kidnaps her to lure the commander to the empowered academy with the flaming sword. because they’re holding his sisters hostage. She only hopes they don’t realise she Carries the flaming sword inside of her. Talk about a cliffhanger.

Finished but had to skim through. The writing/dialog often comes across as choppy or incorrect. There is a repeated use of the word "is" instead of "are" ("there is a few here at the academy who are horrible" - "Isn't there some kind of rules against teachers" - "I think there has only been two students to die"). Later it even says Remy's ghost turned "corporal" instead of "corporeal" so I guess she's in the military now. There are two angel schools who train kids to be soldiers in the war against demons. Main character Gabriella is very over powered yet completely untrained so she is attacked left and right. So far she can speak to animals, has vision dreams, can heal herself, can see/speak to the dead, and makes plants go haywire with her emotions. The "cool kids" decided immediately upon her arrival that they completely hated her and even though they are jerks and terrorize any student deemed weak the staff does nothing about it. Love triangle is beginning between G, the commander of the academy, and the nephilim Trev. No one wants to tell her anything because she hasn't picked a side but how can you pick a side when no one tells you anything...

Spoilers ahead

We open on a girl named Gabriella who has escaped angel testing for almost 2 years between playing sick and jumping between foster homes. Apparently in this world, everyone is supposed to be tested at 16 (random choice) at which point if they have any trace of angel in them they are taken away to one of two academies, one of which is said to be "good" and one "bad" and in line with the darken. No one knows how the test works or what happens to the kids (So are they kidnapped and forced not to contact their families? Are there no adults who graduated?) yet the kids can receive gifts from family while at the academy even though no one knows where the hell it is. Anyway, Gabriella gets caught and tested and suppresses her powers to try and get away and describes the commander's eyes as "greedy". When her test comes back positive they clearly label her a "runner" then just send her home with a binder and instructions to come to the academy. Of course, this prompts her to play sick and stay home for two days before two guys show up to forcibly take her to the academy - THIS is the point at which she tries to escape by jumping out the bathroom window. She is knocked out and taken to the academy where she points out she isn't here by choice and the commander tells her to suck it up (but she still has free will!). At every point after this she describes an attraction to the commander and how good looking he is. She manages to make two friends without even trying (three if you count Remy the ghost who only she can see) since they decided they would be her friend. G gets a warning someone is going to try to kill her, she leaves the school with her friend Hannah she has known for 3 days that won't let G leave without her, they get attacked by demons, commander saves them and brings them back to school. Turns out G is a reincarnation of the human girl the angels loved, touched by 7 angels, and houses the Flaming Sword that can kill angels and demons alike. G finds out she can make Remy the ghost visible by touching her when she does it in front of Hannah, they tell no one. The angel Sandalphon comes to Finn's (the commander) house to meet with Gabriella and tell her that she is actually nephilim (Gabriel's daughter) and Finn says he could have told her everything but Sandalphon said he wanted to so Finn didn't say anything. G comes into her powers and is kidnapped by Trev who is bringing her to Empowered Academy (the evil one) because she's Finn's weakness and they want to know where the sword is...

Many years ago, a disease ravaged the land, affecting all humans and many were dying. Fifteen archangels were ordered not to interfere but did anyways and saved some humans. A spy was among the angels and things went awry.

Fast forward many years later. The angels interference had caused the humans they had saved, and their offspring, to become "blessed". The humans would carry the attributes of the angel that touched them. The ones blessed by the angels were called demis. Those touched by an archangel and a fallen angel are considered fully blessed.

Testing day for all humans to find and train the blessed happens at the age of sixteen. Gabriella was seventeen, and a foster child, who knew she was blessed but wanted nothing to do with the supernatural world. She tried and avoided a few tests successfully. Gabriella had been having horrific dreams since the age of twelve; nightmares of kids killing kids.

Gabriella goes through the testing and the testers find out she is blessed. She is forced to attend the secret Academy of the Seraph. At the school she learns she is much more blessed than she ever thought she was. Gabriella was blessed by more than one of the archangels. The commander of the school lies to everyone about Gabriella's lineage for her safety. Gabriella befriends Remy, Hannah and Trev along the way. One student at the school will try to kill her and one of her friends will betray her.

OMG, this book left me with so many good feelings and emotions. Blessed involves such an incredible love story. The world Brandi created is so well crafted. The pace was just right. Perfect timing as far as releasing secrets and revelations throughout the book. The end is heartbreaking, ending on a cliffhanger. I will definitely be impatiently waiting on the next book in the series. I really hope you give this novel a try as it is one of the best books I've picked up in quite a while.

First of all, I love this cover. It’s stunning. 💖

I saw this completed dark academia series on KU and decided to see if it would grab my attention and it did. I finished in less than 24 hours. I found this read to be quick, fun and entertaining. Plus, this is a complete series so it’s totally bingeable!

The storyline is unique in that we learn that Gabriella is reincarnated and thrusted into a world where she must be the hero… reluctantly so! She is feisty, strong and has a great heart. I love how her backstory is slowly revealed through dreams. At school, Gabriella dodges death at every corner and learns to come into her powers. I loved her wolf companion and protecter, Champ. 🐺 I want one! Then we have the handsome commander of the academy who is full of secrets and is majorly protective of Gabriella. I ate it up.

Two side characters that were amazing were Remy and Hannah. One is a ghost that only Gabriella can see and talk to, and the other is a ride-or-die bestie. Remy added some really laugh out loud moments where I might have snort laughed in public a few times. 🤣 One character is a mystery, Trev. He is our hottie, flirty, powerful newly enrolled student. The mystery around his intentions was intriguing if somewhat predicable.

💖 The romance between our commander and Gabriella is slow burn and leaves much to swoon over. 🥵

As the plague was killing the world population, fifteen archangels took it upon themselves to spare the lives of the humans they deemed formidable. In doing so, they passed along their traits and made these humans obtain special powers. However, being caught, they were forced to Earth and became fallen angels. Generations have passed, but humans are still being born from the bloodlines of those saved with special powers. When they turn sixteen, humans are tested for those powers. If the powers are present, they are sent to one of two academies to train.
Gabriella has grown up in foster care and has done everything she can to avoid the mandatory testing since she turned 16. However, officials have finally caught up with her and she is required to test. She tries to fool the test administrator by concealing her powers, but she soon finds herself enrolled in Academy of Seraph. She is immediately on edge because she doesn't want to be there. The commander of the academy takes interest in her, as does another new student, as she tries to figure out her lineage and her powers. She soon finds she will play an important role in an upcoming war, whether she is ready or not.
I found myself really enjoying this book as it went along. As Gabriella learns more about her past, her connection to those at the academy starts to make sense. There are twists and turns that I did not see coming. The story ends on a cliffhanger...so I will be looking forward to the next book to find out what happens. This was a great start to a new series and I am excited about where it may go in the future.

This book was awesome. I truly loved it. It’s so different and fresh I love the perspective of the fallen, both darken and not alike. The intricate way this has come together in this first book it’s perfection.

And I’m loving Gabriella even though she was truly against coming to the academy at all but still making friends and understanding her powers while finding love is so awesome. And I love the back and forth it’s so clear you can tell what’s present and past fantastic writing, the scenes truly come alive with it all.

I love reading about our FMC she’s a badass in her own right. Even knowing she needs to have secrecy but still willing to help those who get bullied by the others is beautiful. It really adds such depth to her, the background from where she came just everything I love how deep and intricate this book has gotten with her character. It really shows why she is the way she is and how she got there.

I can’t wait to read more about Gabriella and where she’ll go from here. That cliffhanger was something else and to say I both saw it coming yet didn’t with Trev, it was just wow.

Let’s just say the plot is real here and though I love my steam and smut without a plot it just don’t do it for me but with this book here it’s not lacking at all in any department. Just awesome writing, job well done to the author. And to another reader definitely give this one a try bc it is so very much worth it. I’m off to read the second one. ;)

A fantasy story woven around angels, demons, demis, immortals and magic, this book hooks the reader right from the first page. Many years ago, when a plague was causing human population to die, 15 archangels, who were not supposed to interfere, broke the law and saved few humans. These humans were considered blessed and possess special powers. Over centuries, as the bloodline progressed from one generation to another, the descendants still possessed certain special powers.
Hence, in the current world, it was mandatory that each human is tested whether they are blessed or not, at the age of 16.
One such blessed girl, Gabriella, despite being blessed, detests her super powers.
She is sent to one of the academies where the officials soon find out that she is blessed. Despising her situation, against her wishes, she agrees to get trained. she becomes an object of interest to her commanding officer. She makes few friends and many enemies in and outside the academy. As fate would have it, she finds herself in a pivotal position in an upcoming war as she tries to trace her own lineage.
It is a very fast paced book, with funny and interesting characters. I enjoyed it. I felt that the ending should have been more conclusive. But overall, a very enjoyable read.

Blessed: The Academy of the Seraph
By Brandi Elledge
5 out of 5 stars

The story Blessed: The Academy of the Seraph by Brandi Elledge is a book that I loved reading. It pulled me in right from the start and didn’t let me go until the final page. It is a book that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. The story centers around the main character who has been touched or blessed by angels. There is danger from enemies that could come from anywhere, even from those at the Academy where they now live. Hidden abilities and secrets abound. Will the main character be able to hide who they truly are? Their future hinges on it. Read this book to find out what happens. The author does a wonderful job in making both the story and the characters come alive. I loved that the main character is stubborn, independent, and feisty. Besides the main character I also enjoyed reading about the other additional ones. There are those who are friendly and helpful and then the ones I would call evil and only seek for their agenda to succeed. Don’t miss out on a story that is intriguing and entertaining. I would highly recommend reading it.

Blessed: The Academy of Seraph by Brandi Elledge. This book is so good. Its about many years ago when disease took over the land and affected all humans and they were dying quicker than they could keep up. 15 Angels were told not to intervene but did so anyway saving some humans. If you are touched by a archangel and a fallen angel then you are considered doubly blessed. Enter Gabriella who was 17 who knew she was blessed and wanted nothing to do with it. Now she is enrolling in the Academy of Seraph and realizes she has to keep secret that she is blessed so her skill of being able to hide should protect her. The commander of the Academy is HOT and determined to keep her secret lying to everyone about it. She has become friends at school with Remy , Trev and Hannah but one of the friends will turn on her and someone will even try to kill her. Will the fallen angels called the darken find her and kill her or will they keep her secret. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and once you start you will not want to put it down. There is adventure, danger, romance and betrayal. All you could ever want in one book!

4.8 Stars. To say I'm reading 9 books right now and have started and put them down is an understatement. I as many of you booky people was looking at books and came across this cover done by Molly Phipps at (We Got You Covered) and thought yes, I will get you, well let's say all the 9 books I have started did not even compare to me reading this at 10:00 pm and finishing this at 1:00 pm the next day. Could not put it down. This was just what I needed, considering the New Year started off unhinged. Everything I wanted all in one, an Academy, Angels, Demons, Heaven & Hell, Love, Friendship, Ghost and Supernatural's, Wars and Kidnapping the touched by 8 Archangels sassy Girl.
This left off on a cliff hanger, so now I'm off to read book 2. The slow burn love in this was good. Never trust anyone though, because you don't know who is good or bad...This was not a perfect book, and I figured out a lot of the plot, but it was a good and fast paced read. Recommend to 16yrs and up...
Thank You Brandi Elledge for getting me out of a book slump and for such a great ride with all the feels. Gina Clabo

Blessed: Academy of Seraph By Brandi Elledge

Mrs. Elledge has done a fantastic job writing this book! She captured my attention from the beginning and had it to the end. I found it hard to put it down.

Gabriella, a teenage girl, has been running for the last two years. When she's finally caught up to she's taken to one of the academies. She's told not to trust anyone because you never know which side they'll choose. The quote I choose for Gabriella is: "Maka? You've called me that before what does it mean?"

Finn, the commander for one of the academies, catches up to Gabriella. There he finds that there's more to her than meets the eye. He then finds himself drawn to her and finds himself protecting her. The quote I choose for Finn is: “It wouldn’t be important to anyone else. They took it because they are trying to figure me out.”

I really advise anyone who's reading this to be ready to laugh. This book had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens next. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves a good laugh.

Blessed: Academy of the Seraph is a YA fantasy book by Brandi Elledge which centres around a school for young adults who have been chosen by angels (and, sometimes, demons) and given special abilities. The protagonist Gabriella is extremely powerful, but knows that her powers could put her in danger and so has been hiding and avoiding going to the Academy for as long as she can.
My favourite characters are Gabriella’s best friends, Remy and Hannah. They’re both so fun and kind, and help to lighten the mood of the book. Also Remy spends a considerable amount of time asleep which is relatable.
There’s a bit of a love triangle, which I could live without, but it does link in to aspects of the story and adds to the tension. Generally, though, there is more focus on friendship than romance which is great!
For me, this is a five star read. Great for young adults who enjoy the whole school for people with special powers thing. It ends on a cliff-hanger, so I’m eager for the sequel to come out so I can find out what happens next!

Angel series with a twist

I have read a lot of Academy series and they can become a bit predictable over time but this series is a bit different. An Academy for angels and they can be blessed or dark depending on which side they choose to fight for when their powers manifest. They have the typical bad boy Trev, popular mean girls and a sexy instructor or commander as they call Finn. There are other interesting elements in play and giving the Arcangels empathy and a bit of humanity makes them more appealing. The search is on to locate the missing artifact which could tip the balance and our reluctant runaway is right in the middle of everything. Finding out who to trust is the only way to stay alive and there is not just good or bad but shades of grey in the angel Academy. Remy is such a cool best friend even if she is a ghost and she is fun to read about. I wonder what really happened to her and it would have been great to know her backstory of how she died. Maybe in the next book I can fill in the blanks.

DNF 67%

I tried. The book had a lot going for it. But the "smirking commander" was just too much for me. The heroine is trying, but he's just condescending, talking down at her, and at the same time, acting extremely inappropriately. I just couldn't get over the pedo-vibes. He's much, much older. She may be having another chance, so to speak, but in this chance, she's still only 17. He's in a position of power, not just a teacher, but the commander, similar I guess to a principle. It made me feel sick inside. I don't care how attractive he is or whatever "pull" she experience. To me as a reader, it really was just plain morally disgusting. Yes, I know they have a "history". It changes nothing in the NOW. He's older, her principle and she's a child. So I stopped reading.

Writers REALLY should think about these things before choosing an age. It would've made NO difference to the book (at least not until 67% where I stopped reading) if he wasn't the "commander" (her direct authority) or if she wasn't just 17, but say 20.
