Nearly two weeks after a cataclysmic event renders modern technology obsolete, the safety of home in the rural town of Hammond’s Corners is almost within Jim Crane’s sight. Nowhere has escaped the event’s effects unscathed, including idyllic Hammond’s Corners. The local government has done nothing as resources dwindle. Winter is just around the corner, and crime in this close knit community is on the rise as some do whatever it takes to survive. In times of trouble, the people of Hammond’s Corners have always pulled through together. Something must be done and someone has to lead them if they're to survive the coming Winter.

My friend Chris wrote this book and I got it for my wife Tammie for Christmas who finished it before I got into it. I really enjoyed this book a lot. Jim Crane is a great character and the seedy King family provides a lot of nice tension as the story develops. Nice job Chris!
If you liked The Road by Cormac McCarthy or liked the show Jericho (I loved them both) then you will really enjoy this book by Chris Sherwood. My only regret is that I've now finished the book.
I’m sorry I can’t give a higher rating to what I’m assuming is a self published novel. I’ll leave the story and writing aside and focus instead on the book itself. A good proofreader or editor would have gone a long way to making this a more professional product. Numerous grammatical errors, words missing, words replaced without actually removing the word being replaced, all contributed to making this feel like a sloppy effort. And why no page numbers? I understand there is a second book in this series and perhaps a third in the works. I won’t be reading further but I wish the author well on his journey.
Don't usually read this type of book. Read the preview and it caught my attention, it held my attention for 3 days until the great ending. Looking forward to a sequel and other books from this author.
I have to say, I wasn't sure about this book since it wasn't my usual genre but it soon grabbed my attention. The characters are believable and the story line very solid. An easy read----that keeps your attention through to the end. I hope the author writes a sequel.
Excellent work, Chris! It gets your attention right from the very first page, and keeps you all the way to the last! Very much looking forward to the sequel
