What a beautiful story of love and hope that will take you through a roller coaster of emotions. Where Promises Die by R.C. Stephens is so full of angst, you will feel it in your soul. I was literally held captive by this story. Drawn in and terrified at the same time.
Grace finds herself plucked from everything she knows after being orphaned and dropped in the middle of nowhere Iowa. Now she must find a way to fit in a rural and religious town after the tragic loss she suffers. Taken in by the Duncan’s, her world has turned upside down in an instant.
Eisav Duncan has always been the black sheep of the family. He finds it very hard to conform to what is expected of him. Always compared to his twin brother, Jacob, he finds a kindred spirit in Grace when she comes to live with them. But his father warns his sons to stay away from her, however, it is the last thing Eisav wants.
Eisav and Grace find a connection early on. In Eisav she finds someone she can trust in and who slowly brings in the sun again. Eisav is simply taken by Grace. She understands him in a way his family never has and accepts him for who he is. As they spend time together, feelings emerge. But soon obstacles begin to develop that may not be easy to overcome.
But Eisav struggles with the expectations and demands that are placed on him by his very religious family and specifically his father. When things begin to get complicated and difficult, Eisav makes a decision that will alter their lives and hurt the woman he loves. Can he win her back and show her what she truly means to him?
I found this story to be heartbreakingly beautiful. So many secrets and lies impact not only the main characters, but the family as well, that no one is left untouched. The struggles endured would easily break some, but Eisav and Grace have a love that just may conquer all. A stunning story that will consume you.

RC Stephens does it again with another emotional roller coaster of a ride.
This book is filled with heartache, mystery and suspense. You take an emotional journey with Eisav and Grace as they grow from friendship to love. It's hard to put into words the feels you get from this book. I loved Eisav from the start and his family gives you the creeps. You know there is something that they are hiding.
As Eisav returns and tries to come to grips with the lies and deceit that have been woven around himself, Grace and his family, you just want to jump in through the page and do something to help. You want to shake a few people and scream and cry and laugh at times, just leaving you an emotional mess by the end.
RC Stephens always finds a way to pull you into her stories from the very beginning, grabbing a piece of your heart from the start and not letting go until the very end.
This book is filled with heartache, mystery and suspense. You take an emotional journey with Eisav and Grace as they grow from friendship to love. This book hits so many emotions on so many levels, I find it hard to pull my thoughts together to tell readers how beautiful this story is. Grace and Eisav's story is as heartbreaking as it is beautiful. The story is full of secrets and lies that impact so many of the characters and complicates lives that should have been left untainted.
Grace loses so much through the course of this story. After losing her mother, her city life is uprooted and she is plunked down in rural Iowa. Keeping silent in her grief, the eleven-year-old only child slips silently into a large family that harbors so many secrets it is hard to figure out who is hiding what. The only person who can reach her is Eisav, one of the twins. A strong friendship develops between the two that over the years turns to love. Forbidden by the father, who hates Eisav the couple struggles until circumstances tear them apart.
This beautifully written story is a unique puzzle of interwoven pieces: part love story, part intrigue, part heartbreak, and part a redemption story. There is so many layers to this book and is told in both the past and present. The storyline is intricate and the characters well developed. I had difficulty putting this gorgeous story down and it left a book hangover for days.

I'm a huge fan of R.C. Stephens and the raw emotion that's usually in her writing. I love a emotional read and she always delivers. This was a beautiful story that had me in a slight tailspin while reading it.
At 11 years old Grace is basically adopted by her mothers best friends family who is practically cult like in there religious beliefs but, she quickly binds with the black sheep of the family Eisav. He brings joy to Grace but also dishes the ultimate break to her fragile heart! There's a few twist and revelations in this book that I really enjoyed.

Deceit is a twisty and turny friends to lovers book that will keep you engrossed in the pages.
The story centers around the Duncan family in small town Iowa. Orphan Grace comes to live with them and befriends one of the twin boys in the family.
As life goes on Grace falls in love with her childhood friend Knox. Knox feels stifled and unloved in his religiously strict household. He has a great musical talent and an artists soul. He questions and pushes against the family beliefs, but doesn’t leave because of Grace. Eventually the young pair are found out and Knox is banished from the family.
The story then jumps three years forward to Knox being a well known rockstar who is suddenly pulled back home. The longer Knox remains in Iowa the more family secrets, ill will, hate and deceit are revealed.
The plot is multi layered with deceptions, secrets, and lies coming from all the members of the family. Knox is struggling to remind Grace of the love they had. Knox had left Grace with his family thinking that she would finish high school and then come find him. Grace expected Knox to keep promises made in youth. Both are felling hurt and betrayed by the other, while broader betrayal swirls in the family.
The book is very insular to the family members and the farm they all grew up on. Mainly due to the seclusion that their parents religion enforced on them, as well as, all the lies the family holds.
The story walks us through the siblings learning secrets, learning who and what to trust, and Knox trying to win Grace back from his twin.
No one leaves the house unscathed by events that happened before and after Knox’s banishment.
The story wraps with the characters learning to trust and love again. To be open to new experiences and new things. To being able to shed cruel and poisonous individuals in their lives.
Knox and Grace become a team that supports the other in their endeavors. You see their childhood love return, but grow into something bigger, brighter and more solid.
Deceit mires them all throughout the book, but by its close the characters are to remove themselves from the fall out and lean on each other.

Adoro um dramalhão e esse foi bem escrito. Bom exemplo de livro escrito em terceira pessoa e que prende desde o início.
Que família! Muitos acontecimentos ruins, segredos, descobertas.. Muitas coisas aconteceram e a autora conseguiu abordar tudo sem exagerar. Só no finalzinho não curti a passagem de tempo, algo como "dois dias depois""dois meses depois"três meses depois"....mas fazia parte para dar tempo de tudo se acertar então aceitei bem.
Eisav e Grace sofreram demais, vontade de ser amiga deles, adoro um rock star e uma artista plástica, rsrsrs
Jacob merece um livro hein.

5 EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER STARS!! The ride I went on with Grace and Knox will stick with me forever. Oh my....this ride touched all my emotion buttons, more than once....that is for sure. This book is forbidden, but so beautifully told. This book should definitely be a 1-Click for you.

Mrs. Duncan and Gracie's mom were best friends when they were in high school, so her mother thought the Duncan's would be a good fit for everyone involved. Her new home is in Sade, Iowa. She finds out quickly that she has three sisters and two identical twin brothers. The twins both vie for her attention, but it is Eisav that catches her eye. As Eisav and Grace spend more time together, she realizes that she is falling hard for him. That would be great if it wasn't for Isaac Duncan, Duncan warns Eisav to stay away from Grace, but that is not going to happen.

Where promises die
So this is a tough one for me, I've sat and thought about this review to see if I can really express how this book makes you feel so others understand it and I'm still pretty much at a loss for the right words.
This book will literally tear you apart piece by piece and just when you think you can take no more does a plot twist blow your world apart again, the emotional journey you take with this book will leave you exhausted at the end as you try and compose yourself to continue with reality.
The bond and connection between Eisav and Grace is one that builds slowly and is quite intricate in detail and timeline allowing you to feel the heartache and emotion at every step. As the story unfolds you are caught up in trying to figure out what will happen next as you cross everything praying for a HEA for the pair believing nothing else can happen, seriously they have been through enough but no the pain and emotion floods over you again leaving you in a little puddle of tears.
The plot twists and details throughout keep you captivated on the edge of your seat as you devour the pages searching for the ending your heart and soul needs. Do they get the HEA your searching for well pick up the book and travel the journey....
For me personally I wanted so much more from Eisav and Grace in the present day and less of the past, but don't let this deter you, I guess I just didn't want their story to end.

You Thought Your Family was Crazy...
Whew! R.C. Stephens gives her readers a storyline filled with everything but the kitchen sink with Where Promises Die. Each turn of the page was like opening a Pandora's box, never knowing what was going to happen next.
"Grace was his undoing; it was just a matter of time before the prophecy came to fruition."
Eisav Duncan (not a fan of that first name, also not highly religious) has been smitten with Grace since she was eleven years old and came to live with his family. Eisav, his twin brother Jacob and thier sisters welcomed Grace as one of thier own, however he always knew she was the one for him. Spending time together at the lake without the others, Grace and Eisav saw a different side of one another from what the rest of the family saw.
The Duncan's are a highly religious family, almost cult-like religious and unlike his twin Jacob, Eisav never fit in. He was determined, creative and constantly breaking his father's rules, not realizing that one day, it would cost him his girl.
We span years with not only Eisav and Grace, but the entire family to get the whole picture. While I don't want to spoil any of the storylines, things get very complicated and very what the F as we progress. The religious hold on this family is scary and finally Eisav has had enough and does what he thinks is best for everybody. Something that absolutely destroys Grace.
Eisav is written well, a little bit of a bad boy black sheep, but for good reason. Actually, now that I think back, R.C. Stephens did a great job with all of the characters, fitting them perfectly in the story of Eisav, Ivy and the nutty family that surrounds them.
The book is well written and chock full of drama, angst and crazy antics. I was slightly annoyed with the religious undertone at first, however I quickly realized it was necessary to pull of a story like this.

Tense of Story: Present – Third Person
Genera: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Location: Iowa
Did not realize that the story was not in first person (tend to stick to first person stories), it’s in third person present, which made it a little better. I like the way first person makes the reader part of the character, makes one feel connected, anything else is just not the same for me, I don’t feel like I connect with the characters. However, this story was so good that even with the tense it is in, I had to see where these two characters were heading.
I truly believe in sole mates and love those stories that have it in them.
The plot of the story was very good, however the story seemed a little choppy to me, maybe it was because I’m not used to reading in this tense, it just seem odd to me. I also thought that there were times that the scene was rushed and could have been described better with more detail. As for the twist and turns in the story, here were several times that I had no idea what was going to happen next and I was at the edge of my seat, so that part was great.
As for the characters, Eisav was my favorite. We meet him when he is 13 and Grace is 11. My heart hurt at the way he was treated by those that are supposed to love him unconditionally. I’m glad that Grace came into his life when she did. I can’t imagine a child being singled out at such a young age and pitted against his sibling. How he managed to survive with his parents before and not be more damaged than he was when she came into his life is beyond me.
The stories plot and twist is well worth reading this story.

Um wow, what did I just read?! This book was one wild ride of emotions, anything that can happen will happen in this book.
Tragedy falls on Grace at a young age and finds herself orphaned. After living in New York for eleven years she is uprooted and placed in a small religious town in Iowa with the Duncan Family, friends of her mother. This book was a little hard for me to get through. I usually read books through first person perspective, this one is in third. So third person perspective definitely took some getting used to. Like I said in the beginning, anything that can happen will happen is this book, it was a little overwhelming for me. I mean how much tragedy can one couple go through! Going into this book prepare for a lot of shocked wtf moments! With that being said, happy reading everyone!

Grace is only 11 years old when her mother dies and she has to move in with her mother’s best friend’s family. There she meets the youngest son, Eisav. Grace is scared and alone, but she finds comfort with Eisav. He becomes her best friend and he makes her smile again. Eisav and Grace fall in love, but they have to keep it a secret from Eisav’s parents. One night, something happens that causes Eisav to move away.
A couple of years later, Eisav returns back home and he’s determined to make Grace his again. But Grace isn’t the same woman anymore and she pushes Eisav away. Eisav does everything he can to convince Grace to give him a second chance.
I liked the characters, but not Jacob and Eisav’s parents. Eisav is talented, caring, strong and determined. He’s an amazing brother who would do anything for his sisters. Grace is innocent, shy, talented and passionate. Grace and Eisav belong together. They support each other and believe in each other. They would give up everything for each other. They loved each other from the start.

I loved this one. Where Promises Die is the first book I have read by R.C. Stephens and it won't be the last. I loved the flow and pace of this story. It's an emotional roller coaster of a read. The story spams through the years and starts with Grace at 11 years old. At 11 Grace's mom passes away and she goes to live with the Duncans. She's broken and struggling with life and she isn't talking. She does really know the Duncans but that was her mom's wishes. The Duncans family is very religious and a little odd. Eisav is the black sheep of the family. He goes against a lot of his family's wishes. He connects with Grace and helps her heal. Eisav is the first one to get her to speak again. We get to see Eisav and Grace's bound grow through the years. This story had hooked. There are some crazy things going on in the Duncan family and the church. There are some omg moments and some unexpected twists. There was never a time a got bored reading this one. This one is a must read.

This book is like strapping yourself into a rollercoaster backwards and having faith your going where your suppose to go. It's one w optional book for sure.
Grace loses her mother when she is eleven so my heart immediately was torn out of my chest. I don't do well with books dealing with the death of the mother. I avoid them like the plague. Thank goodness this isn't the main focus of the book. Grace ends up on the door step of her mothers high school best friend and is thrown into the Duncan family traumatized and unable to speak. Culture shock is also in play since Grace had lived in New York City and suddenly finds herself in small town Iowa. Soon the Duncan twin vie for Graces attention to pull her out of her darkness. Falling in love for Grace was never a choice. Eisav is Grace's soulmate. However deceit and lies do destroy. Webs are weaved and the rollercoaster takes off out of the gate.

I had no idea what this book would entail going in I was in for a surprise. From that blurb alone I knew this would be an full of drama, emotions and heartbreak. Add a religious aspect and a twist I'm guessing that will be a huge part of the story. Seems like I like to read similar feel stories back to back.
It started slow for me it was necessary to build a lot of back story. The extreme shift from a New York city girl to small town Iowa is a hard for Grace adjust to the lifestyle and way things were done. Loosing a parent at that young age is difficult add to that change. Feeling like an outsider in the conservative and strict town and Duncan household. Getting along with Eisav, twin brother Jacob and other siblings despite that. It's easy to see that Eisav and Grace aren't so different. Their developing relationship is special and it only grows stronger also getting more obvious, Eisav is told to stay away and it's a no no but the heart is hard to sway.
It's pretty obvious Eisav and his father don't get along what with the super religious over the top beliefs, often blamed and mistreated. Considered as the black sheep of the family His love of music and creative mind doesn't fit their mindset and what they practice. When push comes to shove it cost him much more than he realized. Holy smokes I would also have trouble with that overbearing and super religious family. The whole time things smelled fishy to me.
These cult like religion stories aren't new to me at all but this family is a whole kinda messed up. It's a mish mash of various elements making one giant web of crazy drama. Eisav is the not only one who changed. In part two of this story when he comes back into town he is in for a shock. Everyone, everything changed especially Grace. So much happened and it's a minefield of secrets and things kept hidden. I had my guesses and some were right but everything was twisted drama central. I would say it had everything thrown in but the kitchen sink.
Grace started an innocent shy girl and her closeness with Eisav before was obviously the best part of her life in Iowa. Life can take a weird turn indeed. Eisav was a really interesting spin on the rebel like bad boy, black sheep but he was a compelling character. He wasn't what I expected either I can see how he became that way. These characters were all interesting in their own ways and all complex, they truly made this story more colorful. The disparity with all Duncan siblings are noticeable and make a good addition to this story. Together Eisav and Grace were quite complex as is their story. Full of promises and heartbreak spanning many years.
I can see how the religious tone and this book may be harder for some to get into or not for all but it shapes the direction of the story. This is my first book by R.C. Stephens and although I couldn't connect to these characters she's a creative storyteller. The book itself is full of intrigue and tangled up makings of family with all it's trappings. It's one heck of a crazy story on top a lot of angst and drama. I think it's a book that either one you love or not as much, it sure is an interesting read though.

This book was one of those where you sit down to read it mid-afternoon and the next time you look up it's the middle of the night. I never wanted to put this book down!
PROS:
-Lovable characters. I mean, Eisav was just to die for. I need an Eisav in my life!
-There were so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
-Not too cliche. There were some moments where I rolled my eyes because I thought this was going to turn into one of those other thousands of stories, but it's not!
-No cheating! I hate when I pick up a book that is great and the next thin you know one of the characters is caught cheating (even if the couple is estranged). This does not happen, so feel free to relax.
-I typically don't like large chunks of time that span a book. This one is about 9 years (give or take), but it didn't bother me because it worked
CONS:
-I wanted more information about their childhood, especially Grace. She went through a lot after Eisav left and I wanted some flashbacks (maybe some nightmares) where she relived these moments. She supposed to be haunted by what happened to her, but I didn't really see that.
-Eisav, why the heck did you actually leave? I thought for sure he would have come back a week later to help her escape the house, but nope.
-What the heck, Jacob? I didn't understand his character at all. He was sort of bipolar. I also didn't understand how he gave up on Grace so easily. If I was pinning away for someone and they finally agreed to marry me, I don't think I would just give up. Okay, I didn't like Jacob much so I'm happy he let Eisav have her, but I didn't understand his motivation behind it.
-Their priest was confusing. I felt like he should have been out forming his own cult or something.
Overall, this book was a great read. It has its flaws, as do most books, but I was able to easily look past them because this story isn't like any other. I highly recommend this!

Eisav and Grace form a deep bond when she moves in with his family after her mothers death but Jacob, Eisav's twin, is not to happy about it because he is taken by this young beauty as well. We follow the lives of all the Duncan siblings along with Grace through the years. There are many ups and downs, there were a few times I found myself yelling at my kindle, there were also a few times I had tears running down my face.
This story was unlike an others I have read before and at one point I was wondering with Eisav and Grace would get their HEA. I loved the way it was written in the third person, it made me feel as if I was a fly on the wall watching everything happen.

Wow what a story. Eisav & Grace met when she was 11 years old and he was 13 years old. She had just arrived at their home after her mom was killed. Grace was still traumatized after losing her mom that she closed out and wasn't speaking. Eisav loved to sing and would sing to her. Little by little she started opening up to him.
Eisav family was very religious and were in something similar to a cult. Eisav was the black sheep of the family since he always missed Sunday mass and enjoyed music. Grace loved hearing his voice and it soothe her.
As the years passed by you get to read the feelings of both Eisav and Grace towards each other. They took it slow and didn't give in to their feelings until Eisav thought she was ready. Eisav twin brother, Jacob, also wanted Grace for himself and made their life miserable; especially since he was the favorite son. One faithful night because of Jacob things changed and Eisav and Grace were separated and lost all type of communication.
Three years later they find themselves under the same roof after his father passed away. But things were completely different and Eisav could sense that his family was hiding something. One thing that didn't change was his feelings toward Grace and her feelings toward him.
Then tragedy occurred, secrets were revealed and things fell into place. Sorry no spoilers. But the last chapters were so swoony and you'll smile towards the very end. Beautiful second chance romance.

Josie's Review
Where Promises Die was a exquisitely, tragic and beautiful read. It was filled with drama, crazy plot twists and added religious tone that was crazy. There was never a dull moment in this book, with each page, character and the way the story line was going, I never knew what to expect. I’ve has the pleasure of reading a book by this author before and I happen to love how she handles harsh topics and how she makes you feel like you are there.
Eisav was taken by Grace from the moment the quiet girl was brought to live with his family. The Duncan children fell in love with this shy girl but the connection and pull between Grace and Eisav was rare and unique. Eisav and the Duncan’s were an extremely religious family, over the top religious. Eisav we was the black sheep of the family and his father ‘s scape goat. He was a very persistent character, determined and creative. The push and pull between him and his father over the years would eventually make him break his promise to his one true love Grace.
The book is divided into 2 parts and in between we get to see not only Eisav and Grace grow but also the family. Grace is a very innocent character and has had it harsh, but Eisav was the bright light in her life. She believed in their love and trusted his promise to her. Little did she know how both their lives would change when he makes a decision that will cost them both greatly in the end.
Gosh this book was highly F’d up, the author took this story in a direction I did not expect. It’s clear the author researched extreme religious beliefs because this family was so blind to what was really going on because of how gullible they were. When Eisav returns to right so many wrongs, he comes back to a town and family ridden with shocks and surprises and back to a very different Grace.
Eisav was a different spin on the bad boy persona and I loved it. You have to read it to see what I am talking get about . The added layers of the Duncan kids as well brought so much more depth to this book. There are so many hidden secrets behind the Duncan walls and over the years we get to see how much their lives have changed. I can go on and on about how great this book is but I think it’s best if you click and find out for yourself. Highly recommend!

Some love stories are picture perfect, like a rainbow after the rainstorm. That's the complete opposite of us. Our story was tragic from the start. Grace was never meant to be mind. My father warned me and my twin, Jacob that she was forbidden fruit. I tried to stay away, but you know that they say, you always want what you can't have. And did I want Grace. Too bad Jacob felt the same way. I wasn't going to let that top me. I was going to make her mine. Problem is I didn't realize just how deep deceit could run, or the pains people would go through to keep up apart. All I knew is that Grace was the girl of my dreams and I wanted her more than my last breath.
I will go ahead and warn you that this book is super emotional. This is the story of a relationship that is forbidden, but that doesn't stop them from wanting what they wanted and the world be darned for telling them they couldn't be together. Jacob and Knox are brothers and the day Grace came to live with the a war began. They both like her more than they really should. Their father has put his foot down and marked her as forbidden, so neither on of hem were to lay a hand on her. Boys will be boys though or maybe it is just human nature to want what you can't have and to not pay attention to a thing your parent says about this person. Holy emotions! This book shattered my soul. I wasn’t expecting it to be so emotional and heartbreaking, but the story was beautifully written and eventually will mend all the broken hearts and shattered souls.
Grace has experienced more trauma than anyone should in their life time. At 11, tragedy struck her and she was sent away from her home to live with a family she barely knew. Knox, even at 13, was drawn to Grace. They couldn’t stay away from each other, however, their relationship was forbidden. This is just the start of what will be an emotional rollercoaster for Grace and Knox.
I spent pretty much all of this book wanting to just give Grace a hug for everything she has experienced, yet, I love that despite it all she is still standing. Knox, I felt for him, too. He was the black sheep of his family and had his own struggles throughout life. The two of them together were beautiful and their chemistry was amazing. Knox’s sweet side and compassion was everything that Grace craved and it helped her as a child. Their love for one another is beautiful and emotional every single step of the way.

I struggled to finish this and to really enjoy myself, but I did it. Despite not mentioning it in the blurb, the story would fall into the rockstar/musician trope. While this isn’t my favorite trope, Deceit isn’t entirely focused on that. In fact, the characters don’t grow up until around 35% into the book and the main setting is the family farm in a town called Sade.
The idea behind the story is compelling and the characters were all unique in their own way, including side characters. What I felt it needed more of was the showing of a story rather than the telling. I didn’t really feel any connection to Knox or Gracie from the beginning. Basically, take the emotions written into the sex scenes and add them into the other parts.
I can’t help but wonder if perhaps the issue is the fact that it is a redo of an old published work with a new storyline. Sometimes it is easier to just start from scratch.

The idea behind the story is compelling and the characters were all unique in their own way, including side characters. What I felt it needed more of was the showing of a story rather than the telling. I didn’t really feel any connection to Knox or Gracie from the beginning. I was being told how they were feeling and what happened rather than being shown how angry Knox was based on his actions alone. The title grabbed me and of course that second chance romance piece sealed the deal !!
At 11 years old Grace is ripped from all she has known in the busy NY lifestyle and brought to small town farm living after a loss so devastating it left her unable to speak. The Duncans were family friend to her mother and despite having 5 kids of their own they opened their home to Grace and she became like family. Well not to everyone , disliked by the Duncan's mother yet loved by the twin boys !! So now we have twin brothers falling for the same girl who is living with them as family !! Add to that they are a very strong Christian family and the parents believe in courting and no relations before marriage. They go to church and serve their church faithfully yet this new Pastor and church seem to send a cultish vibe to me !! With 5 kids you know they aren't all behaving as Christians should. The twin boys couldn't be more different, E is always going against the rules , the black sheep and wow does their father make it known. But then you have Jacob who does everything right yet lives in the shadow of his better looking and way more talented twin brother. This family has quite the twisted dynamic and secrets that could go on for days !! You would think this family would be so pure and simple - HAHA they are anything but. We spend a bit of time growing up in the early teen to late teen years at the farm with Grace , E and Jacob coming to terms with feelings and jealousy and doing the right things. I would have never guessed how that piece of the story ended but it was explosive and heartbreaking. As we move on years later we find E has made a name for himself and although a part of his dream came true he is missing someone and due to circumstances back home he is afraid to attempt contact. After a family tragedy E is brought home and comes face to face with the love of his life and his messed up family. As the days go by secrets come out , confessions are made and this family finds out just how sinful their parents really were. They question all their beliefs and reasons for doing right. So many things could have been avoided if their parents practiced what they preached !! Will they be able to untangle themselves from this tangled web ?? Can E finally have all the happiness he wanted ?? Will Grace share her secret ?? And if all things can be resolved will it really result in the happy ending they dreamt up as kids ?? Hang on tight for this emotional ride -

This was a beautiful love story that took a span of a whole young life and beginning of adulthood of two young people, whose souls found a place for themselves in each other's hearts.

The beginning of the book tells the story of eleven-year-old Grace and thirteen-year-old Eisav whose paths unexpectedly collided when she lost her mother and came to live with Eisav's family; his parents were her mother's friends. The children took a liking to each other from the moment they met, and their bond grew throughout the years; it was no simple love. It was the kind of love that's supposed to last forever and then some.
I didn't like that the pace of the story was a bit inconsistent: the beginning of the story was even more slow than usual introduction to the story, but some other scenes played out in such a rapid succession that it was a bit hard to follow. I also don't really feel that the third-person narration was the best choice in this case; although a lot of gaps in the story end up filled, I feel like a first-person narration would have given us more insight to the main characters' feelings. This is highly-emotional story that I feel would be best followed throughout their eyes.
What I liked, really liked, was the story, the mysteries in it, the gaps that were to be filled, the twists and turns, the questions I had that made me read on and read on only because I needed then answered! As I said, it's a highly-emotional story that's bound to give you some heartache. It's heart-breakingly beautiful. The main characters go through so much... that you feel for them, you love them, you want to pray for them. For them to get their happily-ever-after.

A modern day fairytale....
Where promises die by RC Stephens was like being read a beautiful old bed time story. It is written in third person and has a nostalgic feel to it. So different from the other RC Stephens books I've read. (I loved both Halo and Dick.) This book puts RC Stephens on a whole new level. She is such a diverse writer, apparently she can write anything! Sexy one minutes, emotional the next... This lady has a vivid imagination and knows how to write all types of loves. She just keeps impressing me....
I was bewitched by this unique tale from the first few sentences. The epic love between Eisav & Grace had my heart fluttering, while butterflies took flight in my belly. I was consumed!! It's a highly emotional and turbulent ride that had my eyes welling often.... There are twists and turns that left my mouth hanging open. But it was the pure inconceivable love that left me aching. It was dripping off the pages. There was something about this story that just resonated with me. Two kindred spirits, supposedly one evil and one innocent....
Poor Eisav Duncan was made to believe he was the black sheep of his family, until a young girl, Grace came to live with them. She showed him just how wonderful he is... Grace lost her mother and was sent to live with the Duncan family in Sade, Iowa. Completely lost in this new world, her only light was Eisav. He show her compassion and unconditional love. They bonded immediately and ultimately saved each other. Young blossoming love had me falling right along with them.... But their story went from light to dark in an instant. I had whiplash. I felt a barrage of emotions from start to finish. I just kept praying, hopeless at times, for an HEA. I was completely emotionally involved! I'm actually getting choked up writing this review.... Please read this book! Your heart will thank you.

This was my first book by RC Stephens. She’s a detailed storyteller. Where Promises Die is a sweet love story although it isn’t an easy journey for either character or them as a couple. This story is full of twists, lies and secrets. It’s also first love, and second chances, love, and promises.
Eisav, “E” as I call him, is a good guy but his parents only see him as bad. His dad is such a mean and nasty man. Bad news!! Then he met Grace, thankfully they had each other to get through some very difficult years. I love his promises to her especially in the second half of the book, the little notes…..awwww. Bringing them back in the second half really tied it all together nicely. They are so sweet and he means every one of them.
Grace, the poor girl goes through so much in this book. Without Eisav, Greta and even his opportunist brother Jacob (ick), to help her through the tragic events I’m not sure what would have happened to her. I’m glad she had the outlet of painting to help her heal and get through the difficult times.
I enjoyed Eisav and Grace’s story and would love to give it more stars. The story itself was thorough, felt complete, good writing. I loved the intimacy and love between them but the sex scenes didn’t really work for me. I just didn’t feel the chemistry as strongly during the sex scenes as I did during the kissing and sweet moments. I would have been happy with more fade to black or less explicit scenes. It took away from the love story for me.
I think all in all though the ideas and twists in the story were good and I love how she wrapped it all up in the end. I don’t feel like I’m missing any pieces. There were times when I was emotional and even cried a couple of times, for that reason I’m interested in reading another by this author. It really is a sweet story that will touch your heart.
