The New Angels #1

BykeChic: A Lesbian Action Adventure Romance

Rate this book
Kita’s given up on love. Not that there are many options, growing up a lesbian in the Mojave Desert. Plus, she’s barely getting by, struggling to hold on to her dad’s failing junkyard—all she has left of him.

When three vehicles from a shipment go missing, Kita tracks them down in an abandoned factory where she’s attacked by the evil Neophormes and rescued by their mortal enemies, the valiant biomechanical Velixen. Normally shy and reserved, Kita is enraptured by the aliens’ warrior leader Velositi.

Velositi is on a mission to find the Axiom of Command, an artifact that will save her planet by anointing a powerful leader. And she believes Kita is the key to finding it. The Neophormes have chased Velositi and her team across the galaxy, seeking the Axiom for their own ends. Velositi is ready for danger. What she’s is not prepared for is falling in love with Kita.

Action packed adventure!

Kita is on one hell of an adventure when she finds herself looking for three vehicles that should have been delivered to the failing junkyard she is running that belonged to her Dad. The vehicles help her when she finds herself attacked by some strange beings and gets attached to their leader Velositi. With Velositi and her team, Kita finds herself helping them with their mission which leads to many exciting prospects for them all.

Think lesfic transformers mixed with mythical beings and that is BykeChic. It was multi-layered with many different parts that made up one big story. Kita really was on an adventure you’d only ever be able to dream up. At first she was reluctant to understand but she quickly became attached to Velositi and they had quite an intense relationship. There were a few misunderstandings and complications along the way, especially when Kita had to get help for her new friends in order to save Velositi.

The story seemed to be made up of different parts of one bigger journey for Kita. At first you think she is going to be bratty and moody but she quickly establishes herself as a confident, leading main character who takes charge of her destiny and future. There is a lot of angst between Kita and everyone she encountered. She was really firey and she really wasn’t all she seemed and had many surprises, not only for the other characters but the reader too!

There was a lot of action packed into this adventure, providing a fast paced action romance with many surprises, twists and turns.

4.5 stars. This book seemed highly inspired by Transformers. Velositi and Adrestia were my favourite characters due to their wisdom and ability to talk sense into Kita yet still appreciate her despite her flaws. The message at the beginning (mainly from alien Velositi) was to put beauty above all else, which I wasn't a fan of. But I enjoyed the writing style and entertainment factor as I always do with this author. If you're a new reader, I'd recommend starting with Birthright so you get the full picture of who Kita is and why she behaves the way she does, otherwise you'll get lost. The first half of the book wasn't as strong--I felt Kita should have stayed mellow until the turning point (no spoilers). After that point, the story really took off and made up for the first half. There was lots of action and a great team of main characters (both male and female, despite some feminist themes), as well as a focus on social and political LGBTQ issues. I am not LGBTQ but an ally, and I thoroughly enjoy reading this author's books.

New adventures with Kita

“The cost to an inclusive government to support its populace is less than the cost to deal with problems created by not supporting the populace.”

“She stared at the horizon, dreaming of a perfect place just beyond it. A place full of Angels and friends where I am free to be me.”

A new story begins for Kita that is in a uniquely different universe, but somehow, the old has become new again. Is humanity destined to always be what it is or can it be better...

Another great Angel read

Although we definitely started with a brand new version of Kita as a human, she was every bit as likable and endearing as the Kita we have grown to love. Her transformation to the Kita will have known and loved was well written. All of the characters were well developed and three dimensional. Totally recommend reading this and everything written by L. interesting read

There were definitely similarities to the current situations that are occurring now. I loved the Hawaiian section, as I lived for 2 years just outside of Kona on the Big Island and even ate at a restaurant called Quinn’s for breakfast several times .

I'm really not sure where to start with this one. Basically, I didn't like it at all. This is my first book by the author so maybe I just don't understand the quirk of her books, but I see that as a flaw in itself.

I HATED every character in this book. None of them were likable at all. It felt like none of them had and solid character foundation either. Their personalities would just be whatever suited the moment. There was so much back and forth from hating and angry to being in lust? I couldn't get a read on any of them and the b-line straight to love was jarring. Every character seemed to go 0-60 at any moment with any emotion. And some of the characters were just flat out terrible people the entire way through.

I will completely admit too I struggled to even follow the story. It was already weak at best and felt a bit too much like a certain movie, but then everything suddenly gets turned upside down. This was also jarring because still, the characters were awful even after changing and the story just made little sense to me. It felt a lot like jumping into a story already in progress like there are things I needed to know when starting this but wasn't introduced to me through the book. Even with the obvious characters meant to have everything explained to them, it was still confusing and honestly a little juvenile.

I had to force myself to finish this book. It was waaaay too long, too broad, and too hard to follow.
