A mind-bending psychological thriller...

Memento Mori by D. B. Martin is the first book in the Mind Games series. This was a superbly written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn characters and settings. The threads of storytelling are so expertly woven in this psychological thriller that it had me engaged from the opening chapter. Skillfully constructed, this mind-bender of a thriller had me turning the pages from beginning to end. In addition, the characters are drawn with great credibility and conviction. This bears all the hallmarks of making a great series. Looking forward to reading more from this author. Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.

It is a long time since I read D.B.Martin's Patchwork trilogy and I had forgotten what a brilliant writer she is.
Newly qualified Dr Gaby McCray, daughter of a very eminent psychoanalyst and author, is delighted to have been offered a position as a psychoanalyst and assistant director for Ethos consultants, a psychological treatment centre, motto - Finding ethical solutions.
Gaby has a baptism of fire when she arrives to start her new job only to find that the rest of the staff, including the director, are away at a conference leaving Gaby alone with Jenny, the all knowing P.A to Robert Anhelm, the director.
I found it difficult to review this book without giving the plot away but basically it involves a few patients with very sinister undertones, Candy Myers a toxic relationship freak, Jessica Morgan a very wealth fashion guru who is a control freak, George Thierone who works for the hush hush Chiarouscuro and Client X who likes to play mind games.
What I can say is that there is smouldering tension and unease throughout the story, with both sociopaths and psychopaths, the author has remarkable descriptive powers, she has obviously done loads of research into the troubled mind.
What is Chiaroscuro ? What is Romaine, Gaby's step mum, hiding ?What is the truth about her fathers suicide ? What part does Abigail, Gaby's childhood doll have to play ? What was her fathers involvement with Ethos and Chiarouscuro.
This story had me gripped from the beginning, a well earned five stars

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m glad I gave it a shot. It was an intriguing psychological thriller about a psychologist fresh out of school who starts work at a distinguished clinic as their new Assistant Director. This clinic was interested in her because her father was a famous psychologist and they were hoping she would be just as amazing since she carried his genes 🧬. Boy did Gaby get more than what she was hoping for in just the first week at the clinic and it had nothing to do with helping her “clients” resolve their personal issues. She was able to learn about her father’s past and the mysteries she had unanswered questions to. At the same time she starts to remember things from her past that she had no memory of. This was a really good book with lots of suspense and great characters. I would definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to start the continuation book. Total five thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

“Memento Mori” is the first book in the series Mind Games. It is a psychological thriller that hooks the reader in its entangled pages from the beginning and all the way down to its end. The reading flows, it incorporates interesting dialogues and the narrative describes with great detail and creativity each character in the story.
A young woman, who faces her own psychological problems, finishes her studies and finds herself ready to understand and treat other people’s minds. But this leads her to realize that trying to control what people do and think is a very dangerous game. Will she be able to deal with this game?
I recommend reading this great work and discovering this thrilling plot. It was long since I felt so captivated by A story. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.

My favourite types of series and books are psychological thrillers because I really like mind games and I must say that “Memento Mori” blew my mind. It is a middle-length book that I devoured; I could not stop reading it so I stayed awake very late at night.
The author did an amazing job with this book; the precise descriptions of the different scenes, the well-portrayed characters and the realistic dialogues and situations made me feel that I was inside of the story and living the same as the protagonist.

All in all, I am pretty sure I am going to continue reading books from this amazing author because she left me wanting more. I highly recommend it!

This is a great psychological thriller with twists and turns. We have a new psychologist, Gaby, starting her first job at Ethos. As you read the book, you see she did not know what she was getting herself into. With the rest of the employees away at a conference, she started her first week there alone, except for the secretary. She started treating patients who turn the tables on her resulting in blackmail and other emotional turmoil for her. Secrets are slowly disclosed as the story progresses and comes to a surprising ending. It was great. Definitely a good read.

I am not sure how I felt about this book. It was confusing for me in many places and then I would be dragged into the story and wouldn’t want to put the book down. I really enjoyed the ending to the story and I want to read the next book to see how this keeps going. I wish it hadn’t been quite so confusing for me especially through the middle of the book. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Mind games is an appropriate title for this psychological thriller, it certainly played on mine. Some of the storyline was confusing causing me to reread sections to get the story straight. As I think about this, the writer was brilliant-the reader is uncovering Gabby's memories and sorting through information to uncover the truth with her. An intriguing novel that I highly recommend-looking forward to the next novel.

I was completely intrigued with the way this story plays out. Ash is loved and followed by all even though she’s an illusion. No one knows except the one who created her. Loved it.

This book is quite unique. It's about a young psychologist Gaby who begins her career at The Ethos Instistute as an therapist. At first, it seems like an easy job, but it is not as it seems. She has three mysterious patients though at Ethos they are called. Two of them want to help Gaby with her own problems, and of one of her clients Client X gets her involved in playing mind games that at first were fun but lead to her doing unethical things a therapist should not do.These games get dangerous and could even be deadly. Gaby refers to her father who was a famous psychologist as Dada. The first time she refers to him by this term its cute. But then that is how she always refers to him, and that gets annoying! I wondered why. Does it show regression, trauma, a lack of emotional maturity? One day fifteen years ago he committed suicide, and she still has a lot of questions, and why and how that happened back then. This story has so many twists and turns, its full of suspense. It reminds of going down the rabbit hole with Alice and then at the bottom landing in a roller coaster car, so hang on for the ride! So I would classify this book as a psychological thriller and look forward to reading more from DB Martin. Check it out for a thrilling read!

I received this book as an ARC. My first time reading this author.
Mind Games is the absolute perfect title!
I feel like the beginning was a little rough for me. It's kind of deep and involved, so it needs the time to build the characters and the plot.
Once I got a grip (and it was me, not the writing), it got interesting very fast. There is a lot going on and it really does mess with your head.
It was a great book that I enjoyed immensely. It kept me up at night, I didn't want to put it down. Every time I thought I figured something out, I was proven wrong, it's not predictable at all.
The writing was clear, the story well thought out, and the concepts make you question your own morality.
Can't wait to read more from D.B. Martin!

This is one of those books that you need to really pay attention - it's not a quick easy read. It is detailed and in depth. It took me a bit to get into it, some parts I had to read over but I am so glad I stuck with it. It is a fantastic psychological thriller.
