Lani: The Girl Without Fear

Rate this book
Lani lives in a world controlled by fear but she feels none of it. After she sneaks out of school one too many times, her parents invite a Fear-Monger to intimidate her. That was the last straw for Lani and she talks her Minotaur bodyguard into helping her leave the city. Beyond the walls, Lani and Brutus come across a warrior woman, an ancient samurai, marauding robots, deadly monsters, and the looming threat of Monger mercenaries tasked to bring Lani back to the city... by any means necessary. Lani learns of love, friendship, and her world in ways she never thought possible before.

I love Lani and her world. This story is strongly influenced by Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. I tried to take typical fantasy tropes and turn them on their heads a bit. There's no kingdoms, no princesses, no prophesies. The 'bad guys' have already won, now people are trying to live in the world controlled by fear.
If you like strong female characters, you'll love Lani. Watch her grow as she faces dangers and death, as she learns the truths about her world, and herself.
