Inagua – see on väike mahajäetud saar Bahama saarestikus. Sellele päikesest põlenud maalapile sattusid kaks ameerika looduseuurijat Gilbert Klingel ja Wally Coleman... Klingeli terav pilk märkas, et saarel elavad maailma väikseimad sisalikud, ilusad linnud, huvitavad krabid. Klingel tuli teistkordselt saarele koos tuukrivarustusega. Sellest, mida oli näha maa peal ja vee all, jutustabki autor.
Gilbert Klingel (1908–1983) was a naturalist, boat-builder, adventurer, author, and contributor to the Baltimore Sun. For a time he was affiliated with the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and was a long time member of the Maryland Natural History Society.
He is best known for his book about the Chesapeake Bay, The Bay, winner of the John Burroughs Medal.
It has been a while since I had this book in hand. I remember the author exploring this island. I believe he was the only person on and he explored it with primitive equipment, as underwater in a old big diving helmet with a pump above providing air.
It was interesting and he was rather bold about sticking his hand down holes and such to find out what was in them or when underwater walking along by grabbing seaweed.
This are impressions in retrospect. I thought it was an interesting book.
