Clan Beginnings #7

Clan and Commit

Rate this book
Preparing for war. Fending off a vengeful stalker. It’s the perfect time for romance on Kalquor.

In one day, Dramok Bacoj realizes his cherished dream only to have it snatched away. Then he meets the perfect man, Imdiko Vax. Unfortunately, Vax is a firm believer in career before love, so he’s unavailable for courtship. Or is he? Fending off a vengeful stalker, he turns to Bacoj for help, and discovers a romance he can’t easily set aside.

Nobek Japohn is all the protector a clan could hope for. However, the young warrior’s personality isn’t geared toward working well with others. Yet when he sees the handsome pair of Bacoj and Vax in the sort of trouble only he can save them from, long-shattered hopes rise anew. Maybe he can be part of a clan, if they’ll only give him a chance…

…and if a lunatic bent on murder doesn’t kill them first.

Tracy St. John

Born in a small town on the coast of North Carolina to strict parents, Tracy St. John started out as a quiet, shy child. She was typical for her small town: studying hard for good grades, fishing with her dad on Saturdays and attending church on Sundays.

When adolescence kicked in, so did full-on rebellion. School, family and church fell by the wayside as Tracy partied too hard with the wrong people. Somehow surviving her wild-child phase, she pursued several careers before finally settling on video production and writing.

A string of failed relationships prompted her to give up on love…which of course meant fate immediately tossed Mr. Right her way. After only 4 months of dating, she eloped with the love of her life. They just celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss.

Prior to penning her first erotic novel ‘Alien Embrace’, Tracy wrote commercials, television and radio promos, and training films for various government entities.

Tracy St. John now lives in coastal Georgia with her husband and son. She still enjoys fishing, and you’ll often find her haunting train museums with her locomotive-loving son. Besides writing, she also works in video production both in front of and behind the camera. She’s usually cast as the gun-toting bad gal, getting handcuffed in the end. She has no complaints.

Let me start by saying I think I read a different book to everyone else. I have read all of the a Clan Beginnings books (bar one) and have been looking forward to reading this book. Sadly this one seems to have lost the plot or really just rehashed plots from previous books in the series. I even questioned if Tracy wrote it at one point but disregarded that thought later. Character development is thin. Vax reads like an excitable, annoying ten year old (every time I read his name I thought of my carpet cleaner which didn’t help me one bit) Bacoj was going through a crisis of confidence that was never properly resolved and therefore he came across as a bit one dimensional and bland. Lastly, I didn’t think Japohn was given enough time to shine, although I did like his character the best. Sadly I didn’t think there was much chemistry between any of the characters because it all felt very rushed. There certainly wasn’t the detailed background and world building I’m used to with the Kalquor books. Which would be ok if you’ve read other books in the series recently and don’t suffer from *cough* old lady brain that forgets things. And guess what? Just in case you are wondering there is the old chestnut of a plot device...wait for it... one of the characters gets kidnapped *gasp*. An abrupt ending finished me off. Nuff said.

This author can do better than this mediocre offering. I know because I’ve read them.

Time for bed I’ve carpets to clean tomorrow...

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Amazing Book

Sometimes it is good to stop with a series and return to it at a later stage, cause I loved this book so much and now I have to get the next book.

Absolute protection

I like how Bacoj and Vax are just so drawn to each other that they can't get away from each other, no matter what. That doesn't mean that they don't have the space for Japhon. Tense at times, but HEA.

Weakest in the series so far

I love both series, clan beginnings and the clanning of women. This story is however weakest of the all. It’s too short, has too much sex and not enough emotions. Not like other stories in clan beginnings it’s a novella explaining beginning and not a story of love that then continues into Earth encounter. It’s a weak thing. Definitely too expensive in comparison with other stories. I actually read it in an hour, skipping the sex scenes as I do, and finding very little action. Disappointing. Nice read nonetheless.

It is always fun to return to Kalquor and the trios of alien men who inhabit it. This time around, Tracy St John gives the story of Clan Bacoj and how they came to be.

The story is good with a nice amount of "spice" to keep the pages warm. Each of the characters is solid with a myriad of personalities that eventually mesh and become harmonious.

A not to be missed for Kalquorian and Scifi romance fans.

Fantastic!

Great book by an outstanding author! Tracy St John is one of my top five favorite authors and she always delivers. This book is part of the Clans of Kalquor series and it's an awesome part of the galaxy for all kinds of romance. Thank you Tracy St. John! When can we expect the next one 😘

It felt rushed and not as fleshed out as the previous books. Also the problem of Dramok Bacoj's self confidence and Nobek Japohn's habbit of taking over in command when Bacoj hesitates is never really resolved. For example the story goes from Bacoj wondering if he is strong enough to handle Japohn to the next scene is asking him to clan.
