Sam Beech awakened from a deep sleep and suddenly sat up on his bedroll. Although it was chilly inside the plastic tipi, he was sweating profusely from the intense nightmare. Was it just a dream, or was it possibly another terrifying glimpse into the future? And, just like his previous visions, this one seemed all too realistic. His younger brothers, Danny and Jerry, had insisted on accompanying him on this crazy quest. But to what end? Could they really be in the midst of a real, fire and brimstone, prophecy? Or was he just in the early stages of some sort of dementia? Besides, why him? He was nothing special and had led a rather unremarkable life up to this point. Sure, the recurrent owl visions appeared to have been real enough to lead them to Alaska. And, it was true that the mysterious Annie, who first told him to follow the owl, and Edward Sleeping Bear, the Crow shaman, and the Shoshone Warriors all seemed to be convinced that he was, indeed, the key. But could it all have just been a series of coincidences? Was it just a bad dream from which he would awaken at any moment? The long journey leading them from rural East Texas to this place and time was still very vivid in his mind. How did they manage to get caught up into all of this in the first place? He thought back to when it started… the trigger point. They had no way of knowing that the events of last Thanksgiving would trigger a chain reaction that would dramatically change their lives forever… and possibly history itself.
