Can faith stop a .45 slug? Is there a Higher Power willing to help those who believe? John McKinnley is a God-fearing man whose faith is being tested. Jason Steele wants McKinnley's ranch and he attempts blackmail, kidnapping, and even murder to get it. Steele is obsessed with becoming the largest land owner in the Kern River Valley, and with his stable of professional gunmen to fight his battles, McKinnley is no match for Steele. All John McKinnley has to stand up against Steele is a deep belief in God and a mysterious man named Keene. Keene says, "Sometimes faith is all people have, and most of the time they come to find out, it's all they really needed." If Keene is wrong, McKinnley will lose more than just his ranch.

I didn't really get the premise of this book. Sarah has bought a ranch, the Bar MC but there are other
parties that want to take the ranch away from her but she is determined to stay. A storm was on its way and she went out to warn the ranch hands. However she had to take cover in an abandoned mine shaft. Pepper had lit one of the sticks of dynamite but it was too short and he ended up being blown apart. No remains were found accept his hat. When Sarah left she gave the deed to Bar MC to Pepper.
