Why hasn’t this been published as a collected trade paperback yet?! It’s one of my favorite Surfer stories, and it’s a consequential one as well!
This is a really fun story. It also has a pretty heavy dose of tragedy. The surfer is as badass as ever, too.
Personally, I love Frankie Raye (Nova). I love how she looks, I lover her personality, and I love who she is to Norrin.
One thing that disappointed me was the lack of dynamic between her and Galactus. They had a somewhat odd relationship in previous comics, and I felt like that was left out. It would have been intriguing to see that explored, especially under these circumstances.
Overall, I recommend reading this immediately after finishing The Infinity Gauntlet. This was written when Norrin Radd was the coolest dude in comics. You’re gonna love it.
Marvel's Mightiest Heroes Book 34. In the first of these two stories we see the tale of how Norrin Radd saves his homeworld Zenn-La by agreeing to serve the world-devouring entity Galactus. In the second Galactus empowers the monstrous and genocidal new herald Morg, prompting the Silver Surfer to gather the other former heralds Air Walker, Firelord, Nova and Terrax to stop him.
I was already pretty familiar with the Surfer's origin story, although this is the first time I've seen it in its entirety, so there wasn't anything too surprising about the first story here. Although, that said, I was intrigued by the suggestion that Norrin's motivation wasn't simply to save his world, but was also to gain the chance to explore the universe.
The second story definitely made up for any shortcomings of the first, however. I've always enjoyed tales featuring Galactus' varied cadre of heralds and therefore enjoyed seeing them forced to team-up to defeat the newest being given the Power Cosmic. They are an ill-fitting bunch with a range of personalities but that's what makes it so much more interesting to see them cooperating to a common purpose, even the villainous Terrax the Tamer. If you're new to the Surfer's cosmic adventures then it might all be a bit overwhelming for you, but for me it felt like a brilliant narrative crescendo that leaves a beloved character dead.
I've never really been a big fan of Silver Surfer, I've always felt he was a little OP. However, I really enjoyed 'The Herald Ordeal' I'd be interested to see more of Firelords stories as his time as herald along with Gabriel Lan as they had good chemistry.
I also would have liked to read more Nova stories but she was killed at the end of the story (couldnt help but feel that she was fridged slightly) however, I'd like to read more of her earlier run.

Classic Marvel, a great adventure against the new herald of Galactus, with plenty of space action the way I like it from Marvel. Of course there are deux-ex-machina making the villain more powerful, or Galactus hampering the abilities of Surfer, but overall this is highly enjoyable.
Creo que habria sido mejor el volumen si hubiese incluido los primeros numeros de Lee-Buscema. La historia de Marz es bastante simple, y el arte de Wyman y Lim no me gustó.
I'd only known bits and pieces of the Silver Surfer before I read this comic book. I thought it was really interesting to see the origin of the Silver Surfer and to see how discontented with his life he was... even though it was technically a utopia. I thought his dissatisfaction with the society made a lot of sense, but it was quite a surprise that not one single other person shared his sense of discontent.
I did feel quite a bit of sympathy for the Silver Surfer in the first comic, even if I didn't know very much about his history after he came to Earth. Still, I could understand why he might not be necessarily trusted...and it was interesting to see he was trying to give the people of Earth a common foe to fight.
It was really interesting to see more details of the different heralds of Galactus and it was especially good to see how each one began questioning and trying to turn Galactus away from the inhabited worlds.
I found Morg to be a really disturbing villain who had no real depth to him. Even Galactus seemed to have more depth, at least towards the end of the second set of comics.
I really liked Nova's character and I would have liked the opportunity to see a bit more of her. It was also interesting to see the other heralds having to come together to fight against Morg... and I found it especially interesting to see how Terrax was convinced to join them. While I could understand the Silver Surfer's points in regards to Morg... I actually felt Terrax had the right idea in what he ultimately did.
I would have liked some more detail of Captain Nebula and how that storyline might have fit in with what was going on with the Silver Surfer. It seemed quite disjointed and I felt like I was missing quite a lot of the background of that story, even though it was cool to see an android(ish) captain.
I liked seeing Firelord and Air Walker and it was also good to see the Silver Surfer's confusion about the planet he and Firelord found Nova on.
I would like to see more of the Silver Surfer and the other former heralds in other comics. It would be nice to get to know more of them.
The Silver Surfer a simple designed character for any comic book was born great, his philosophical nature, the balance between depression and optimism is unrivalled and I think anyone struggling to find their own place can relate to that especially if they are fighting to find their own silver linings.
Here we have The Silver Surfer's origins and his reflections on how Earth is but a ball of savagery which is sad but true. Surfer is trapped here and all he sees is anger and callousness of humanity so he thinks back to the time he was Norrin Radd of a technologically advanced alien planet where they have long lived a life without war, poverty or famine but something inside Radd is restless so when Galactus' ship arrives for him to devour the planet to sedate his hunger, Norrin Radd is allowed to take a ship and go meet this devourer of worlds where he sacrifices his freedom for his planet to become Galactus's herald, so given cosmic power and free run of the infinite galaxies-Norrin Radd becomes the Silver Surfer.
We also have a 5 part epic from the early 90s called The Herald Ordeal where another of Galactus herald's finds herself questioning-Nova is this herald a friend of the Surfers. Dismissed by Galactus Nova goes missing and Galactus finds a new herald in an alien called Morg-an over zealous, power hungry, violent gladiator with no morals or qualms about killing. Surfer finds he needs help and searches for former heralds to help take down this Morg and make Galactus see sense. Good stuff.
This is a team up between all of Galactus Heralds. Galactus gets annoyed with his most recent Herald and decides to recruit another one. Only problem, this one has no morals at all. The Silver Surfer is determined to stop him. This is a great storyline that is based on character, its nice to see all the Heralds together. A very good read.
