John awakes to find himself in a hospital bed with no memory of how he got there. Then the visions start. Destruction and death. A last chance. The only one who can save millions of people. He is no hero.
Tim has been married to his wife Rachel since 2001, and they have two daughters. He lives in Tallinn, Estonia, having moved there with his family in 2012 from St Petersburg, Russia, which they moved to in 2008. He is originally from Kent in England and lived for eight years in Cheshire, before moving abroad. As well as writing the novels that are already published (plus the one or two that are always in the process of being finished) Tim enjoys being outdoors, exploring Estonia, cooking and spending time with his family.
The nuclear holocaust and accident that many fear comes alive in this novel. With a limited cast of characters and very little action Tim Heath delivers a compelling story that draws you in. Complicated relationships and the different way lives come to interact and cross paths is at the heart of this book that kept me reading all the way to the end.
Not on ku so must have gotten it thru one of my free book sites. Spy Thriller I guess, something usually don't bother to read, but since it was this writer and had it along with Those geese, they lied. He's Dead. which is a short story collection but also have Cherry Picking which is more but like this one but not really, hard to explain, but definitely had to read through this.
A Riveting Spy Thriller! MI5, MI6, the South African Secret Service, and the Chinese--what more could you ask for in an international spy thriller. You have shadow governments, or rogue governments--or is this really the normal operating procedures for nations who want to take down their enemies, in revenge for spying on them?
And all of this wrapped up in the ethical dilemmas of deciding whose life is expendable, and whose is not. John Westlake awakens to find that his memory is gone, but his nighttime's are filled with visions of a sacrifice that he has to make to save the world. Are these visions from the unknown or are they being fed to him, and for what purpose. And will his nurse, Lorna, help him to make this decision on his own?
I highly recommend this book. If you love Tom Clancy books, Mission Impossible, or anything conspiracy theory based with spies, espionage, and shadow governments, you will not be able to put this book down!

Tim Heath takes us into the world of national intelligence agencies with the British MI5 at the center of this novel. We start off knowing nothing and through the skillful interlacing of the present and the past, we slowly learn about John Westlake (The Last Prophet) and the current situation while truly getting to know the main characters.
About halfway through the book, you will pretty much know everything that could be told about the past. But, the story does not stop. The pace quickens and the twists and turns and intelligence gamesmanship increase. You are kept guessing until the very end.
This is another example of great storytelling by Tim. His words paint a vivid picture and keep you interested in the protagonists and their welfare.

A very clever way of writting!!! A thriller-action story with nice twists, that makes you want to read more. The past with the present well mixed up and with a very satisfied ending! I can imagine it easy be also a movie!
Very captivating novel. It'll have you wrapped up in conspiracy and espionage blanket of mayhem and betrayal. I wasn't very pleased by the ending on John's part. But all in all I guess everybody got what they wanted except the UK.
Sorry Tim. For some reason I just couldn't follow things as they jumped back and forth in time. I am a seasoned reader but had to throw in the towel on this one.
