Not the most compelling story by Haggard. Haggard is best at action and adventure--not so good at exposition and long speeches, which make up far too much of this book.
Honestly, I only kept reading to finish it so that I could say I'd read all of the Ayesha books.

হেনরি সাহেব কষ্ট করে এতো মোটা একটা বই ল্লিখসে তাই তিন দিলাম। কেন যে এতো ত্যানা পেচানো বুঝি না। অ্যালানকে নিয়ে একটা বিশাল বই লিখসে, নায়িকা আয়েশা। একদম হুদাই লিখসে। তবু এই বইটা হজম করা গেছে।
অনুবাদ ভালো। এই অনুবাদকের হিউ হিউ মন্সটার পড়ে আবেগে কাইন্দা দিছিলাম। সেই তুলনায় অনেক উন্নতি হইসে, চোখে পড়ার মতো উন্নতি।
আয়শা নিয়ে আরও লেঞ্জা আছে নাকি এইখানেই শেষ।
অনুবাদ ভালো। এই অনুবাদকের হিউ হিউ মন্সটার পড়ে আবেগে কাইন্দা দিছিলাম। সেই তুলনায় অনেক উন্নতি হইসে, চোখে পড়ার মতো উন্নতি।

But for the chapter devoted to Noot's tale, Wisdom's Daughter is a tedious failure, a product of an author in clear decline. It is a repetitive sermon that pretends profundity yet gives up only endless cliches on the pain of immortality and the weathering of nature upon men's souls. A pity, because earlier volumes in this series actually provoked a lively interest in new ways of approaching life's mysteries, many evolving from, it seems, theosophic ideas.
Here, however, ideas languish until mercifully the book ends. It is worth saying that Haggard apparently had more than a passing acquaintance with the ancient history of Egypt, Persia, and the Middle East. His historical characters, although the details of their lives might be stretched and altered somewhat, seem true to the actual record. Mentor, Bagoas, Artaxerxes III, and Nectanabo all come to life as their histories indicate they should. The intrigue, the battles, the conflict, all accurate to a degree.

Es la mejor novela de las cuatro, esta vez desde el punto de vista de Ayesha, y pienso que cierra el círculo bastante bien, logrando explicar ciertas cosas que no se entendían en los tres libros anteriores. Aunque cronológicamente esta sería la primera parte, es mejor leerla al final porque el último capítulo es como un resumen de toda la historia, en el que se desvela el final de las otras novelas. La narración es más poética, algo compleja y metafísica, en concordancia con la maravillosa protagonista. En algunos pasajes igual resulta algo pesado o redundante: carece de la agilidad de la literatura moderna, sin embargo tiene sus virtudes y cierto encanto muy evocador. Quizás bajo el punto de vista religioso se note la influencia persistente de algunos anacronismos, pero como no soy experto en el tema en realidad tampoco lo puedo asegurar. Como libro de aventuras tiene gran potencial cinematográfico. Puede que hoy día esta historia esté desfasada; a mí me da igual: me impresiona y guardo el anhelo de releer toda la saga.

পাঠকমাত্রই জানেন প্রাচীন মিশরের পটভূমি নিয়ে লেখা গল্প কী পরিমাণ ইন্টারেস্টিং এবং অ্যাডভেঞ্চারাস হয়। 'ওয়াইজডম'স ডটার: দ্য লাইফ অ্যান্ড লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী-হু-মাস্ট-বি-ওবেয়েড' পূর্ণাঙ্গ এমনই এক গল্প।
আগ্রহ থাকলে অ্যাডভেঞ্চার, ফ্যান্টাসি এবং মিথলজির মিশেল বইটা সম্পর্কে একটু জেনে আসা যাক।
আয়েশা সিরিজের শেষ বা চার নম্বর বই হলেও টাইমলাইন ও ঘটনার পরম্পরা অনুযায়ী প্রথম গল্প লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী। অর্থাৎ শী বা আয়েশার অরিজিন গল্প লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী। এছাড়াও আয়েশা সিরিজের সবচে' ইন্টারেস্টিং বইও এটা। আয়েশা'র আত্মজীবনীও বলা যায়।
হেনরি রাইডার হ্যাগার্ডের মাধ্যমে প্রথম মিশর ঘুরেছিলাম ক্লিওপেট্রা'র সাথে। সেখানেই প্রাচীন মিশরের প্রতি আলাদা ভালোলাগা তৈরি হয়ে গিয়েছিল। এখানে সে মিশরকে আরো ডিটেইলসে পেয়ে যারপরনাই আনন্দিত হলাম। ক্লিওপেট্রা'র মতই প্রতিটা শব্দ এবং বাক্য উপভোগ্য ছিল।
ফ্ল্যাপ:
আমি সর্দার ইয়ারাবের কন্যা। স্বর্গের দেবীর হুকুমে বিনাশ ডেকে এনেছি শয়তান পূজারীদের ভাগ্যে, বন্ধ করেছি শিশু বলিদান। ধ্বংস করেছি পারস্যের অত্যাচারী অগ্নিপূজারী রাজা ওচাস আর্টাজারজেসকে।
আমি আয়েশা। আমি সে, 'যাকে মানতেই হবে'। আজ আমার জগতের সাথে পৃথিবীকে পরিচিত করাব। বলব আমার ভাগ্য নিয়ে দেবী আফ্রোদিতির নিষ্ঠুর রসিকতা আর দেবী আইসিসের কোপানলে পড়ার কথা। বলব আমার প্রেমাস্পদকে হারানাের গল্প আর জানাব, কীভাবে আমি আয়েশা থেকে হয়ে উঠেছি যাকে মানতেই হবে’, ‘যে কখনও মরে না।
তাহলে, আর দেরি কেন? চলুন, জেনে নিই আয়েশার রােমহর্ষক আর হৃদয়বিদারক জীবনের ইতিবৃত্তান্ত।
হেনরি রাইডার হ্যাগার্ডের গল্প শুরু করার এ কায়দাটা অনেক ভালো লাগে। এই ধরুন— 'এ গল্পের পাণ্ডুলিপিটা একজন পাঠিয়েছে ', 'প্রাচীন কোনো জায়গায় গিয়ে পাণ্ডুলিপিটা পাওয়া ' অথবা 'পাঠোদ্ধার করে প্রকাশ করলাম' এধরনের বাক্যগুলো দিয়ে শুরু করা। এতে গল্পে যতই অতিপ্রাকৃত বিষয়বস্তু বা অবিশ্বাস্য বর্ণনাই থাকুক না কেন সবকিছুই বিশ্বাসযোগ্য মনে হয়।
চরিত্র সম্পর্কে:
আয়েশা সিরিজের কমন চরিত্র আয়েশা (শী), ক্যালিক্রেটিস (লিয়ো ভিঞ্চি), হোরেস হোলি (নবী নুট), আমেনার্তাস (উস্তেন, খানিয়া আতেন) ।
সিরিজের প্রধান একটা অংশজুড়ে নায়ক ক্যালিক্রেটিস থাকলেও তাকে খেলার পুতুল মনে হয়েছে। তার নিজস্বতা বলতে কিছু ছিল না। সে কখনো আমেনার্তাস কখনোবা আয়েশা দ্বারা প্রভাবিত।
ক্যালিক্রেটিসের পার্শ্বচরিত্র (অনেকক্ষেত্রে প্রধান) হোরেস হোলি বেশি শক্তিশালী ছিল। নবী নুট রূপে বেশি সমৃদ্ধ।
আয়েশা সিরিজের সবচে' রহস্যাবৃত চরিত্রটি অবশ্যই আয়েশা। প্রথম তিনটি বইয়ে তাকে ঘিরে শুধু রহস্যই তৈরি হয়েছে। কোথাও সে রহস্য উদঘাটনের চেষ্টা করা হলেও পাঠক আরো বিভ্রান্ত হয়েছেন। সেক্ষেত্রে আয়েশাকে ঘিরে তৈরি হওয়া সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর পেয়ে তৃপ্তই হবেন পাঠক। তারপরও অনেককিছু খোলাসা করা হয়নি কারণ আয়েশার ভাষায় সে বলার অনুমতি পায়নি। তাছাড়া বিভিন্ন অ্যাঙ্গেল থেকে দেখলে শী-ও কম পাপী নয়। ভালোর পাশাপাশি অনেক কুকর্ম ঘটেছে তার দ্বারা।
প্রথম দুটো বই পড়ে আমেনার্তাসের জন্য করুণাই হয়েছিল। তবে লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী পড়ে বুঝলাম সেও কম নেগেটিভ নয়। হিংসা তার মাঝে প্রবল। এটা থেকেই আয়েশার দীর্ঘজীবন লাভের আকাঙ্ক্ষার জন্ম।
মনে গেঁথে যাওয়া উক্তি:
১. ক্ষমতাশালীরা সত্য কথা শুনতে চায় না।
২. "মানুষ নিজেকে নিয়ে যা ভাবে, বেশিরভাগ সময় তা-ই তার নিয়তি হিসেবে নির্ধারিত হয়ে যায়।"
৩. "কখনও কখনও এমন সময় আসে যখন অনেক বড় পাপ থেকে বাঁচতে অপেক্ষাকৃত ছোট পাপ করতে হয়।"
৪. "কুসংস্কারাচ্ছন্ন মানুষগুলোর অবস্থা এতই শোচনীয় যে আকাশে জ্বলজ্বলে সূর্য থাকার পরেও ভর দুপুরে স্রেফ ভয়ের কারণে থরথরিয়ে কাঁপতে থাকে তারা।"
নিজস্ব মতামত:
আগেই বলেছি আয়েশার নেগেটিভ দিক প্রকট। তার জবানিতে সে এসব গর্বভরে লেখায় মাঝে মাঝে বিরক্ত হয়েছি। একই অনুভূতি হয়েছিল 'ঠগীর জবানবন্দি' বইটাতেও। এছাড়াও আয়েশা তার দৃষ্টিভঙ্গিতে মিশরের পতন এবং নিরীহ মানুষদের অত্যাচারিত, নিপীড়িত হওয়া ও ���ৃত্যুর কারণ এসব সহজভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করেছে। বা ধর্ম নিয়ে এমন অনেক কথা আছে যা আপনার ধর্মবিশ্বাসের সাথে যায় না।
একটা সাইটের মতে বইটা পাঠের বয়সসীমা ১২+। অন্যভাবে বলা যায় এক অনুচ্ছেদে একটা অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত চুম্বন দৃশ্য ছাড়া বইয়ে উল্লেখ করার মত ১৮+ টপিক নেই।
তাই আমি বলব পাঠক হিসেবে সেরকমভাবেই মনকে প্রস্তুত করে এ বইটা পড়ার জন্য।
সিরিজের পূর্বের তিনটি বই পড়েছি শুধু এবইটা ভালোভাবে উপভোগ করার জন্য। সেটা সার্থক।
যারা আয়েশা সিরিজের চারটি বই পড়ার আগ্রহ পাচ্ছেন না, তাদের আমি চার নম্বর বই লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী আগে পড়ার জন্য রিকমেন্ড করব। এটা ভালো লাগলে আগের তিনটি বই পড়ার আগ্রহ এমনিতেই হবে। এটা ভালো না লাগলে আগেরগুলো না পড়াই সমীচীন।
মিথলজি:
মিশরীয় এবং গ্রিক মিথলজির একটা টাচ আছে। মূলত মিশরীয় প্রকৃতির দেবী আইসিস এবং গ্রিক প্রেমের দেবী আফ্রোদিতির দ্বন্দ্ব থেকেই লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী এর গল্প তৈরি হয়েছে। আয়েশা আইসিসের প্রতিরূপ।
রূপান্তর:
অতিরিক্ত কাটছাটের কারণে সেবার রূপান্তরে শী এবং রিটার্ন অভ শী পড়ার সময় ভালো লাগলেও তেমন উপভোগ করতে পারি নি। সে তুলনায় সাইফুল আরেফিন অপু_ ইনার রূপান্তরে রিটার্ন অভ শী রিভিউ লেখার মতই ভালো লাগল। সেবার অন্যান্য রূপান্তরের মতই সহজ-সাবলীল-প্রাঞ্জল রূপান্তর। মূল ইংরেজি পেপারব্যাক এডিশনে পৃষ্ঠা সংখ্যা ২০৬ এবং কোনো ঘটনা বাদ দেয়া হয়নি। তাই এটাকে পূর্ণাঙ্গ রূপান্তর বলা যেতে পারে।
নামকরণ:
বাংলা রূপান্তরের নামের সাথে বইয়ের খুব বেশি সম্পর্ক নেই। অর্থাৎ লাভ স্টোরি প্রধান দিক নয়। আয়েশার জীবনের সূচনা থেকে নানা পরিস্থিতি মোকাবেলা করে ঠিকে থাকার গল্প এটা। অ্যাডভেঞ্চারই বেশি ছিল। সবমিলিয়ে আয়েশা থেকে 'শী-হু-মাস্ট-বি-ওবেয়েড' হয়ে উঠার গল্প। মূল ইংরেজি নাম 'ওয়াইজডম'স ডটার'-ই মানানসই।
প্রোডাকশন:
সম্পাদনা টপ ক্লাস। চোখে পড়ার মত বানান ভুল-টাইপিং মিস্টেক পাইনি। প্রচ্ছদের আকর্ষণীয় দিক হচ্ছে কালার গ্রেডিং এবং পেছনের কাভার। প্রচ্ছদ মডেলের আয়েশাকে ভীষণ বাজে লেগেছে।

একটা সাইটের মতে বইটা পাঠের বয়সসীমা ১২+। অন্যভাবে বলা যায় এক অনুচ্ছেদে একটা অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত চুম্বন দৃশ্য ছাড়া বইয়ে উল্লেখ করার মত ১৮+ টপিক নেই।
তাই আমি বলব পাঠক হিসেবে সেরকমভাবেই মনকে প্রস্তুত করে এ বইটা পড়ার জন্য।
সিরিজের পূর্বের তিনটি বই পড়েছি শুধু এবইটা ভালোভাবে উপভোগ করার জন্য। সেটা সার্থক।
যারা আয়েশা সিরিজের চারটি বই পড়ার আগ্রহ পাচ্ছেন না, তাদের আমি চার নম্বর বই লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী আগে পড়ার জন্য রিকমেন্ড করব। এটা ভালো লাগলে আগের তিনটি বই পড়ার আগ্রহ এমনিতেই হবে। এটা ভালো না লাগলে আগেরগুলো না পড়াই সমীচীন।
মিথলজি:
মিশরীয় এবং গ্রিক মিথলজির একটা টাচ আছে। মূলত মিশরীয় প্রকৃতির দেবী আইসিস এবং গ্রিক প্রেমের দেবী আফ্রোদিতির দ্বন্দ্ব থেকেই লাভ স্টোরি অভ শী এর গল্প তৈরি হয়েছে। আয়েশা আইসিসের প্রতিরূপ।
রূপান্তর:
অতিরিক্ত কাটছাটের কারণে সেবার রূপান্তরে শী এবং রিটার্ন অভ শী পড়ার সময় ভালো লাগলেও তেমন উপভোগ করতে পারি নি। সে তুলনায় সাইফুল আরেফিন অপু_ ইনার রূপান্তরে রিটার্ন অভ শী রিভিউ লেখার মতই ভালো লাগল। সেবার অন্যান্য রূপান্তরের মতই সহজ-সাবলীল-প্রাঞ্জল রূপান্তর। মূল ইংরেজি পেপারব্যাক এডিশনে পৃষ্ঠা সংখ্যা ২০৬ এবং কোনো ঘটনা বাদ দেয়া হয়নি। তাই এটাকে পূর্ণাঙ্গ রূপান্তর বলা যেতে পারে।
নামকরণ:
বাংলা রূপান্তরের নামের সাথে বইয়ের খুব বেশি সম্পর্ক নেই। অর্থাৎ লাভ স্টোরি প্রধান দিক নয়। আয়েশার জীবনের সূচনা থেকে নানা পরিস্থিতি মোকাবেলা করে ঠিকে থাকার গল্প এটা। অ্যাডভেঞ্চারই বেশি ছিল। সবমিলিয়ে আয়েশা থেকে 'শী-হু-মাস্ট-বি-ওবেয়েড' হয়ে উঠার গল্প। মূল ইংরেজি নাম 'ওয়াইজডম'স ডটার'-ই মানানসই।

As a child, I loved this book. It brought to me, all of the mystery and romance of ancient Egypt which had fascinated me since I learnt about it when I was very young. And the idea of a non-Christian superhero was just as enticing, because as an eight-year-old, I was just starting to break out of the straitjacket of the religion I was born into, And there was a lovely bit of paganism to the story.
As an adult, I still love the story from the feeling of nostalgia, but I do ask myself why on earth did Ayesha put up with that philandering creep, Leo. He may have had brains and beauty, and even bravery, but as husband material, he was a useless tosser. As in Haggard’s other stories, there was a bit too much imperialism, but in my head, Ayesha was a beautiful African Woman, goddess worshipper and heroine, And believe me in the late 1960s, and early 1970s there weren’t too many of them about.

Когда история заканчивается, самое время придумать, с чего всё начиналось. Читатель прежде мог гадать, какой именно проступок совершила Айеша, из-за чего оказалась проклятой на вечную жизнь. По содержанию прошлых книг имелось представление — Айеша пострадала от любви к мужчине, вследствие чего была обречена ожидать его нового рождения. Но как именно всё обстояло? Что же, Райдер долго себя не упрашивал, принявшись за работу. Тем более, требовалось рассказать о событиях, происходивших в Древнем Египте. Ежели так, Хаггард приступил к написанию. И теперь читатель наконец-то убеждался, что поступок Айеши затронул самолюбие богов.

Me encanta este personaje. La novela, desde el punto literario, es la mejor, aunque no sea también a mi modo de ver, la más entretenida. Me ha costado bastante leerla, ya que es algo densa y no deja de ser un monólogo largo contando diversas aventuras de Ayesha en la antigüedad. Me gusta el estilo de Rider Haggard. Mil vueltas le dan estas novelas antiguas a las aventurillas de ahora. Me extraña que nadie haga una peli o serie de esto porque aquí hay mucho material. Que yo sepa han hecho versiones de la primera, de Ella, pero del resto de la serie muy poco o nada.

Por fin! Me tomó demasiado tiempo leer esto libro, aunque en realidad lo leí más rápido que los otros dos, probablemente por el formato en el que lo leí. Debo admitir que es el que más disfruté de esta ''saga'', sin embargo, insisto, la forma de escribir y el lenguaje rebuscado que utiliza resulta un poco tedioso. En fin, ya te dejo atrás Ayesha, gracias por enseñarme nuevas palabras Hija de la Sabiduría.

This is the origin story of Ayesha, also known as She, from the book of the same name. Since she was immortal, this story could have been an epic story, with larger than life emotional surges. Sadly, it was not. It was a fine historical fiction story that had the main character become an evil god at the end. For me, this story was much better told by C.S. Lewis in his best novel, Till We Have Faces.

Life story of She narrated by She. For my taste, too much broad, thin philosophy, and too much long, repetitive dialogue. I have read the other She novels and perhaps have become jaded so far as this story goes. The action is there, but it seems buried in what feels like one, long monologue.

couldn't meet my expectation. Story telling is much boring and monotonous.....If you have already finished SHE & RETURN OF SHE, you may read it. Otherwise it will disappoint you for sure...

I'm not going to claim this is the same order of classic as the best by Charles Dickens, the Brontes, George Eliot or Thomas Hardy. But like Arthur Conan Doyle or Robert Louis Stevenson or Rudyard Kipling, Haggard really could spin a good yarn. Ten of his books are on my bookshelves. I gobbled those up in my teens and most I remember very, very well.
Of all of them, this one is my favorite by far. Ayesha is one of the kick-ass heroines of the Victorian Age. Haggard's first book involving her, She, was first published in serial form from 1896 to 1897, and along with King's Solomon's Mines is his most famous book. Wisdom's Daughter, published in 1923, is one of Haggard's last novels, and is Ayesha's first person account of her life in Ancient Egypt. As such it falls into historical fantasy, and I absolutely loved it. It's the first chronologically of the four books involving her though, and the first one I read, and can stand alone. By all rights I probably should reread this before reviewing--I last read this in my teens. I think I'm a little afraid I might find She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed diminished in my esteem, and I'd hate that. I'd rather remember this not only as a rollicking good adventure to read, but above all remember Ayesha as one of the most awesome and powerful female characters in literature.

There are only two types of HRH fans, some says King Solomon's Mines is the best book by HRH and the other says that would be "She". I am in neither group and I will not surely give Wisdom's Daughter that place either. But if you are interested in She, Return of She, Allan and She then this is a must read. This book solves quite a few puzzles and answers to many questions arose from the previous books. But this book should only be read after reading the previous books. This is the wrapping up of the series and also looking back in retrospective. In this book She herself tells the story of her life. And She is the only character who met both Holy and Alan. Quite a remarkable feat!! The book focuses on the character of She or Ayesha, her weaknesses, her vengeance and her determination for redemption. The book really does justice to the famous quote " Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". She is a character indeed!!
The writing style matches with the writing style of Cleopatra by the same author.
!!!!Warning!!! The book is written in the manner of old archaic English, not a smooth read. But it gives you the feeling that you are reading personal diary of someone more than 2000 years old and the writing style manages to capture that essence. A must read for those who read other books on She but I would not suggest anyone who did not read HRH to start with this one.

I first read this book shortly after Ballantine published it in 1978. While I enjoyed it, I found that I didn't care for it as much as I felt I should have. I had read others of Haggard's books and had felt that I should have liked this one as much as I had them which I don't. I felt that it may have been its style which was quite different than he normally wrote in. Recently I decided reread Haggard's "She" novels, and this being the first one, read it again. This time, as you can tell from the five star rating, I enjoyed it immensely. I believe that its style was the reason why. Looking forward to the reading of the other books in series.

Me gustó bastante, está genial. No negaré que mi debilidad por la ambientación egipcia influyó en mi veredicto final, así como el infinito culto a Isis. Interesante forma de llevar la narración, aunque hay uno que otro elemento que habría corregido. Sólo reniego del final. Odio ese tipo de finales, pienso que restan algo de genialidad a cualquier obra.

Finally we get Ayesha's backstory! I have no idea if this is remotely historically accurate, but enjoyed the tour through ancient Egypt. Not sure that the reason for Ayesha's being cursed for thousands of years quite holds up, but it's a fun read nevertheless.

(Rating 1.5) —- The final book in the She series is definitely the weakest of the four books and has a different style. It’s long monologues are repetitive but it does answer some questions from the previous books which is good.
