Bimal-Kumar are fictional characters created by Bengali novelist Hemendra Kumar Roy. These are popular figures of Bengali Children's literature. Roy wrote almost thirty Bimal-Kumar stories and novel. Some of them are science fictionThey are two Bengali friends named Bimal and Kumar. Both are adventurous, daredevil and intelligent. The duos like to solve mysteries, roam all over the world, search hidden treasure and live a fearless life. They are bachelors. Their old, loyal servant Ramhari and pet dog Bagha accompany them. Ramhari acts as their guardian. Binoy babu, a man with versatile knowledge and a school boy Kamal sometimes joins their adventure.

About the author

Hemendra Kumar Roy (Bangla: হেমেন্দ্রকুমার রায়) was a Bangali writer noted for his contribution to the early development of the genre of children's literature in the language. He was a noted contributor to the early development of Bengali detective fiction with his 'Jayanta-Manik'-stories, dealing with the exploits of Jayanta, his assistant Manik, and police inspector Sunderbabu. Roy also translated the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyám into Bengali. One of the best translations anywhere of Alice in Wonderland is Roy's Ajab Deshe Amala.

He is best remembered as the creator of Bimal-Kumar, the adventurer duo and Jayanta-Manik the detective duo. It was Bimal-Kumar's adventure story Jokher Dhan, for which he is famous in Bengali literature for children. He was a staunch believer in supernaturals and he used the supernatural element in several of his adventure and mystery stories. He was also a painter and the choreographer for Shishirkumar Bhaduri's Seeta. He created a comic series titled Tara Teen Bondhu, which consists of seven short stories such as 'Kukur Kahini', 'Nakuler Daon Mara', 'Maharaja Chor Churamoni Bahadur', 'Kamon Kore Totlami Sare', 'Kartik Pujor Bhoot', 'Der Dozon Jahagi', and 'Madhureno Somapoyet'. The three main character of this series, Atal, Patol and Nakul, won huge popularity among the children and youngsters.

Pinaki Roy, who has offered post-colonial interpretations of Bengali detective fiction, gives primacy to Roy more as a writer of sleuth narratives than of children's literature. Pinaki Roy credits the litterateur for initiating a trend which would ultimately bring Bengali detective-story-writing from its colonial phase to its anti-imperialistic one: "Jayanta, the detective-cum-scientist, is probably one of the earlier fictional Indian sleuths who use their Indian sensibilities to capture Indian criminals operating in what could be idenfied as an 'indigenous' atmosphere.

তারা আগ্নেয়াস্ত্রের অপ্রয়োজনীয় এবং যথেচ্ছ ব্যবহারে সিদ্ধহস্ত। নির্বিকারে খুন করে যায় শত মানুষ। নির্বিচারে প্রাণিহত্যা কিংবা প্রাগৈতিহাসিক বা অজানা কোনো প্রজাতির প্রাণি বধ করতে তাদের হাত কাঁপে না এতটুকু। প্রাচীন সভ্যতার ধ্বংসাবশেষের ক্ষতিসাধন, প্রকৃতি ধ্বংস, এমনকি নিজেদের সুবিধার্থে বনে আগুন পর্যন্ত লাগায় 'খোকাবাবু' বিমল এবং তার সাগরেদ কুমার।

বাঙালি ছেলেদের 'অ্যাডভেঞ্চার হিরো' হিসেবে তাই বিমল-কুমারকে কোনোভাবেই মেনে নিতে পারলাম না। বরং এদের থেকে দূরে থাকতেই পরামর্শ দেব।

আর গল্প? সব ঐ যকের ধনের ফর্মুলা। ঘুরেফিরে সব একই ধাঁচের কাহিনী, একই ধরণের বর্ণনার বিরক্তির পুনর্ব্যবহার; মাঝেমধ্যে কাহিনীর উত্তেজনা বৃদ্ধির জন্য তথ্য বিকৃতিও চোখে পড়ে।

যাহোক, সব মিলিয়ে খুবই হতাশাজনক অনুভূতি হল বিমল-কুমারের কাহিনীগুলো পড়ে। এই থোড় বড়ি খাড়া আর খাড়া বড়ি থোড় গল্পগুলো সব শেষ করার ধৈর্য্য কিভাবে পেলাম সেটাই রহস্য এখন আমার আছে।

"যকের ধন" নিয়ে অনেক ভালো রিভিউ দেখেই মূলত এই সমগ্র পড়া শুরু করি। যকের ধন ভালো লেগেছিল তাই পরবর্তী গল্পগুলোও আগ্রহ নিয়েই পড়ি। কিন্তু কিছুটা হতাশ লেগেছে।
কারণ ঘুরেফিরে গুপ্তধন নিয়েই বেশিরভাগ কাহিনী আর ঘুরেফিরে সেই যকের কথাবার্তা।
তবে লেখক গল্পগুলো লিখতে গিয়ে বেশ পড়াশোনা করেছেন পড়লেই বুঝা যায়। তাই পড়তে খুব একটা খারাপও লাগে না। তবে এসব গল্প শিশুকিশোরদেরই বেশি মুগ্ধ করবে। একটা জিনিস অনেক চোখে লেগেছে। সেটা হলো বেশিরভাগ গল্পেই আগ্নেয়াস্ত্রের অদ্ভুত ব্যবহার। মানে ডিনামাইট, মেশিনগান এরকম অত্যাধুনিক আর ভয়ংকর অস্ত্র এত সহজে কেউ সংগ্রহ করতে পারে আর সেগুলি নিয়ে যত্রতত্র এমনকি নিজ দেশের বাইরেও নিয়ে যেতে পারে - কেমন যেন অবাস্তব লাগে।
সবগুলো গল্প পরপর পড়লে বাঘার প্রতি (বিমল-কুমারের পোষা দেশী কুকুর) এক ধরণের মায়া জন্মাবে। তাই বাঘার মৃত্যুতে আমার বেশ খারাপ লেগেছে :(

ভেবেছিলাম সবকটা গল্প পড়ব, তবে তা আর হলো না। সত্যি বলতে যকের ধন ভালো, কিন্তু বাকি সব গল্প একদম বাচ্ছাদের জন্য। এমনকি বাচ্ছাদেরও আমি পড়তে বারণ করব কারণ সব গল্পে এমন যতেচ্ছ অস্ত্রের ব্যাবহার ও হত্যার কথা লেখা আছে তাতে প্রাণের দাম যেন কিছুই না। এ যেন অন্য এক ধরণের ক্রুরতা, যা জীবনের মান রাখে না। সত্যিই কি এই সাহিত্য বাচ্ছাদের পড়া উচিত? - কে জানে! আমি অহিংসার মতাদর্শের কথা বলছি না, তবে অহেতুক হিংসার সমর্থক আমি নই। তা ছাড়াও গল্পগুলো তেমন জমাটি নয়, বেশ খাপছাড়া লাগে। এডভেঞ্চার গল্প হয়তো এমনই হয় - জানি না৷ পড়ে একটু হতাসই হলাম।

This is my second read and this epub format for the first time. The conversion quality is not good. Contains many a breaks and weird characters.

For the book once again a clean five star. I have read couple of storeys of the collection countless times through childhood and adolescence to even more mature state of mind. The author happen to be one of the most popular to people of my generation and earlier. Still find the reading good or excellent.

প্রায় দুমাস ধরে পড়ে শেষ করলাম।পৃষ্ঠা সংখ্যা দেখে ভেবেছিলাম হয়ত কোনোদিন শেষই করতে পারবো না কিন্তু শেষ করতে পেরে নিজের খুব আনন্দ হচ্ছে।
এখানে মোট ২০টি উপন্যাস ও ৭টি ছোটো গল্প আছে। কম বেশি খারাপ লাগবে না পড়তে, তবে কিছু কিছু গল্পের ধাঁচ একই রকম মনে হয়েছে। যেগুলো সবথেকে ভালো লেগেছে সেগুলোর নাম উল্লেখ করছি - যকের ধন, অসম্ভবের দেশে, পিশাচ, ময়নামতির ময়াকানন, সূর্য নগরীর গুপ্তধন,মান্ধাতার মুল্লুকে।প্রত্যেকটা বইএর আলাদা আলাদা রিভিউ দিয়েছি (ছোটো গল্প ছাড়া),তাই এখানে আর বেশি কিছু লিখলাম না।
পাঠকদের উদ্দেশ্যে শুধু একটা কথাই বলতে চাই - একটানা গল্পগুলো না পড়ে অন্যান্য বইএর ফাঁকে ফাঁকে পড়ুন, তাহলে ভালো লাগবে।

যে বয়সে এই বইটা পড়ার দরকার সে বয়সে পড়ি নি,তাই সেরকম মজা পেলাম না। তাছাড়া গল্পগুলোর ফর্মুলা বা প্যাটার্ন প্রায় একই রকম। এক নাগাড়ে পড়ে গেলে ক্লিশেভাব চলে আসে৷ তাই মাঝে মাঝে বিরতি নিয়ে পড়তে পারেন যারা পড়তে চান। তবে এসব গল্প শিশু-কিশোরদের জন্য। আবার শিশু-কিশোরদের গল্প হলেও টেনিদা যেভাবে সব বয়সের পাঠককে আন্দোলিত করে, ঠিক সেরকমও নয়।

একই লেখকের জয়ন্ত-মানিক ডিটেকটিভ চরিত্রদুটো আরো বেশি উপভোগ্য।

An all through nice read.
The author Hemendra Kumar Roy was one of my childhood favorite and till now remains so. Such is the appeal of his writing of adventure stories. This volume contains the entire collection of his stories based on adventures of Bimal, Kumar and their team including their dog Bagha. The book ends at the end of their adventures where Bagha dies.
I have read many a stories for several times, but sill could not help muself from reading once again while going through the present volume.
