Knits for Pets

Rate this book
Needle-wielding pet owners won’t be able to resist this adorable collection of projects for their favorite four-legged friends. Showcasing the work of major designers like Amy Bahrt, Gayle Bunn, Vedis Jonsdottir, and Gitta Schrade, it branches out from the ubiquitous sweater for Fido by offering original toys, collars, and carrying cases. A deluxe doggie bed with a beautiful Fair Isle pattern incorporates dog bones and paw prints. A chichi handbag shaped like a puppy is perfect for carrying a small Chihuahua or Yorkie. Easy-to-follow instructions and crisp photos accompany each pattern, ensuring that every knitter will be able to join in the pampering.

This book has 21 projects: four toys, two bags, six sweaters, one cape, two mats, pillows, kids' cap, booties, dog poncho, collar, first aid kit bag. There is only one sweater written for a dog larger than medium, most of the rest are for small dogs. Although the patterns look cute, there isn't anything to hold my interest in this small book. Some things don't make much sense to me - I would never knit up a toy (that's meant to get ripped up) for a pet! A dog cape seems likely to get dragged around and the booties are going to get pulled right off those paws! More photos and schematics are needed to understand how the garments are shaped. A couple pages of knitting basics are at the beginning.
