Evelyn Rhoades aka Evie is a 35 yr. old single woman. She recently moved to a small town called Bell Harbor, where she works as a plastic surgeon. Evie is the newest Dr. in town, and spends most of her time working. She has always been a more serious person, who isn't carefree. She moves to Bell Harbor to be close to her best friend & colleague Hilary, and also to try to slow down a little, and enjoy the peaceful small town lifestyle. She wants to buy a home on the shore and be able to relax more.

 photo 61133bfc-5a01-4a90-8244-a21aa9912cb5.png

On Evie's 35 birthday her co-workers throw her a surprise birthday party at work one afternoon. Near the end of it another Dr. comes in and asks her if she would consult for him on a patient with a facial laceration. She enters the exam room, and sees the patient passed out. He is one of the most beautiful men she's ever seen. His face is model perfection, and her mouth is watering just looking at him and all his yummy muscles. She is horrified by her reaction and extreme attraction for this man, since he is clearly much younger than her, and not at all her type.

 photo 6b082185-07b7-4839-b037-5c693ab97a6d.jpg

When the guy wakes up she finds out his name is Tyler Connelly, and he is 27. He has crashed a jet ski into the boat dock, and smells of whisky. Evie and Tyler stare at each other and that electrical current between them is too much for her to take. She tries to hurry with stitching his face, so she can get away from him before she does something to embarrass herself.

Tyler comes back to the ER for his follow up appt., and asks for Evie to be his Dr. He is very taken with her, and asks her out. She declines, but continues to run into him around town. Tyler is persistent, and eventually gets that date. Everyone in Bell Harbor seems to want Evie to have her HEA. Living in a small town, everyone knows everyone's personal business, & you don't get much privacy. Evie decides she is rather lonely, getting older, and would like a family some day, and makes a list of husband requirements. She looks at things from a scientific POV. Her parents had such a dysfunctional marriage, she has never put much faith in love or romance.

 photo 3a707066-7467-49e9-8ecd-08b9f769486d.jpg

Evie agrees to go out with Tyler, and even considers a fling, but also joins Bell Harbor Singles. She truly believes her perfect man has to meet all her requirements, and be her equal in every way. The problem is one kiss from Tyler Connelly, and all Evie's rules don't seem quite as important. Tyler doesn't meet her so called check-list at all, but she is still drawn to him. He is charming, mesmerizing, reckless, and hot as hell. He is the opposite of what she thinks she needs, but she is desperate to have him. It turns out there was so much more to Tyler than Evie knew, and the more time she spent with him, the more she couldn't imagine her life without him in it.

I really loved the whole 8 years age difference between Evie & Tyler! Go Evelyn!!! :D It just works. It isn't too big of an age difference to where it is cougarish, but it is enough that it is hot & makes you a bit envious! lol :)) This story shows you age is just a number, and we can't help who we fall in love with. Sometimes we need to think outside the box, and have an open mind. If we have so many requirements for that perfect someone, we may miss out on someone fabulous! Ok...my Dr. Phil moment is over! ;)

-"Someone needs to teach you how to have fun, Evie. Live a little."

-Tyler stepped a little closer. His gaze dropped to my mouth and lingered so long it nearly felt like a kiss. I wondered if anyone had ever burst into flames from the heat of his stare. Something indefinable about him set off reactions in me I'd never felt before.

-Tyler's hands moved slowly up my back and over my shoulders until his fingers cupped my face, as if I were as fragile as I felt. I was a bubble about to burst, but his lips were soft, grazing over mine in a tease more than a kiss. I sighed, a feminine little flutter of breath I couldn't hold back. And then he did kiss me. Really kissed me, with pressure, and certainty, and a confidence that made me forget my own name.

-Wherever we were headed was a dead-end road. There was no future for the two of us. But Tyler Connelly seemed like a worthy destination all on his own. An all-inclusive resort, and suddenly I needed a vacation.

-I wanted him. All of him.

-This was about to become a very, very good night.

-Tyler in a shirt was a delicious vision. Tyler without one was a work of art.

-He smiled, which was very unfair, because those dimples of his were about ten feet deep. One of these times I was going to fall in and not be able to climb back out.

-"I like you, Evie. A lot. That's probably obvious, but in case there was any doubt, I thought you should know."

-Sometimes love supersedes logic, and the best thing to do is just follow your heart."

-If he makes you happy, then that's all that really matters."

-The only thing that mattered was that he was mine.

-"I am crazy about him."

When Evelyn turns 35 she smashes right into the ticking time bomb that is her womb. With the help of her two closest friends and aided by a list of attributes the perfect guy should have she embarks on a quest to find the perfect husband. But her first few dates are almost enough to turn her lesbian.

When Tyler lands in the Emergency Department after an accident on a stolen Jet-ski she feels an immediate twinge in the pants department...but on her perfect match meter he rates an absolute zero. Adding to his dismal prospects, he's 10 years younger than her. But the pants will want what the pants will want.

The Best Medicine is pretty damned classy contemporary romance. Those of us who read a lot of the genre can recognise a trope from a mile away, but Tracy Brogan has delivered a surprisingly refreshing story about two people from different worlds who despite their differences are still attracted to each other. It's an entertaining and upbeat story, and a great book to read on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Many thanks to Montlake Romance and Netgalley for providing me with this ARC

Bet jie puikiai prilimpa, ypač kai to ieškai!

4.5 STARS.
Funny and definitely a stress buster book! The title says it all. It's a light read and a great change from all the hard, complicated stories I've read so far.

I was all smiles and laughs because of the characters and the point of view of the heroine is a winner. I loved Dr. Evie Rhoades witty expressions and comebacks.

A story about a beautiful and smart mid-thirty plastic surgeon who was looking or I might say, getting ready for Marriage or husband-to be because of all the pressures her 23 years divorced and re-engaged parents gave to her.
Until she met Mr. Hot Shot EMT,Tyler Connelly.

A lesson about looking for her Mr. Perfect. It's really sweet and romantic. It's just that I was looking for an epilogue. Bell Harbor is a special town after all.

Puikus pasirinkimas tarp sudėtingesnių knygų 🩵 ši knyga patiko žymiai labiau negu pirma šios serijos dalis.
Kelios vertos dėmesio mintys:
• Meilė baigiasi, kai nustoji galvoti vienas apie kitą, o ne tada, kai stengiesi atkreipti vienas kito dėmesį. •
• Tavo tėvui reikejo kuo nors rūpintis, o aš jam niekada neleidau rūpintis manimi. Reikėjo jam leisti retkarčiais nugalėti kokį slibiną. •

3.5 stars. A light and totally predictable listen about a female doctor in her mid-thirties who falls for a younger guy who isn't up to her strict standards for marriage material. Second book in the Bell Harbor series, but works as a standalone. Enjoyable small town setting with a host of quirky characters. Fluffy, fun, feel-good chic-lit.

Another predictable, too-good-to-be-true hero, but as I've said before... "What's wrong with that?" If I want reality, I can walk outside. :)

Once again, I laughed constantly. I literally had to put my hand over my mouth to hold back my chuckles, as people started staring at me.

I will say I liked the heroine in this story more than the first Bell Harbor novel, but if you like laugh-out-loud chick-lit, I'd recommend that you read both, especially since several of the characters from Book One make an appearance. This is not a series; it's a collection. Book Two is not a follow-up to the first Bell Harbor novel, it's simply a new story, set in the same location, which means you'll bump into a few locals, but no evil cliffhangers, which I appreciate.

I will definitely read a third.

Note: There's a little rough language, but most of it is believable, as in the character was usually perturbed at the moment. Sex is mostly beneath the sheets, nothing graphic.

3.5 - Penis Colada & Strawberry Dickery.” Stars!

I really do have to commend Tracy Brogan on putting a good story together. The Best Medicine is the second book in the Bell Harbour Series, and in the main I enjoyed this book as much as I did book 1 – Crazy Little Thing.

As with any series set in a town it is always enjoyable to see the return of characters from the previous books. I loved Dody and Fontaine from Crazy Little Thing so it was great to catch up with them as well as Des, Sadie & Jasper.

It’s funny actually as for all the things I liked about The Best Medicine, I have the same small problem with it as I did with Crazy Little Thing, and that is I wasn’t overly fond of our heroine Dr. Evelyn Rhoades.

I was suffering from a severe case of vaginal cobwebs. It must be like an old, abandoned subway tunnel down there.

Now don't get me wrong there were a lot of giggles in this book (not as many as Crazy Little Thing), and some of the dating situations Evie gets herself into after she signs up for bellharborssingles.com are really funny, but for a supposedly intelligent, well educated woman, I just found her and her equally intelligent and educated friends Gabby and Hilary so judgemental about everyone and everything it was actually a bit of a turn off, it all got a bit ‘Mean Girls’ at points.

Evie is 35, and OMG call the Police!! She’s still single. After learning that her parents who have been divorced for 23 years and hate each other’s guts are remarrying..... Each other, she decides it’s time to take drastic action, and find herself a Husband –

Bell Harbor Singles -
Whether you’re looking for just a little fun in the afternoon sun, or stroll down the aisle, your ideal match is waiting for you.
Log on now. Your happily-ever-after is just one click away.

It was like reading the who’s who of ‘how not to date’ and I loved that wherever Evie went on her dating disasters Tyler managed to pop up and rescue her. Tyler is only 27 and doesn’t fit into the pre-prepared list Evie has put together in her search for a husband, but even though she is determined to stay away from him, he manages to wear her resistance down (lucky, lucky lady).

”I like the way you keep telling me I’m not for you. Every time you say that it just makes me want to prove to you that I am.”

I loved Panzer the dog –

My issues with Evie and her friends didn’t massively detract from my enjoyment of The Best Medicine. The setting, the people and the easy to engage with storyline make it one of those reads you pick up on a whim and ask yourself at the end why you waited so long to read it.

I certainly have a little soft spot for Tyler and Evie, and I have to say it was refreshing to read a book with an older female lead in it, it takes a special skill to make the story not all about the age-difference and offer a genuine connection between the two of them over and above the normal ‘Cougar’ & ‘Hot Younger Guy’ labels, and apart from Tracy, I can only think of one other author who has achieved this successfully and made it about the characters and not just their age difference.

I adored this book!Eve was so funny..I caught myself laughing out loud with the witty humour of the author. It felt a bit rushed to me at the end but it was still a great read!

Awww... What a sweet book. I absolutely adore Tracy Brogan's sense of humor. I'm looking forward to reading lots more of her books. Thanks for the recommendation Karen Fleming! This was a great way to start off the New Year. ;-)

Salve lettrici,
Ma l’apparenza inganna, no?

Vasaros pabaigai knyga tiko idealiai. Man susiskaitė tikrai smagiai, greitai ir lengvai. Patiko.

This is one of those books that you read when you don’t want anything that will tax your brain too deeply but will deliver a happy escape for a few hours. Perfect for a summer/beach read or even a winter stress reducer. Completely enjoyed it.

Disclaimer: I received a free advance review copy of The Best Medicine from Tracy Brogan, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. To see my complete review, please go to kristenbrockmeyer.blogspot.com.

This is the first Tracy Brogan novel I've ever read and I can honestly say I haven't felt this way about an author since Emily Hemmer. Okay, that sounded creepy. Not a stalker, ladies, I promise! I'm just so excited to have found a book that can snag me emotionally while making me laugh out loud. The Best Medicine is seriously a must-read if you're a fan of humorous contemporary romances, for three reasons: it's written with a skewed, laugh out loud sense of humor, there's a realistic and quirky heroine, and the hero is will make you drool. Like, a lot.

Don't believe me? Let me present some evidence:

Skewed Sense of Humor (Exibit A)
I could give you so many examples. Divorced parents that send each other Gorilla Grams and pick up the other's dry-cleaning, only to drop it off at the Salvation Army. Friends that drop Portuguese phrases like foda pena in daily conversation. Blind dates who think testicular implants are going to be the next big thing (and they're willing to let you in on the ground floor). But, in my opinion, this opening sentence says it all:

"Birthday parties, in my opinion, are a lot like pelvic exams--a little uncomfortable, a little awkward, a little too personal, but an unavoidable yearly nuisance--like a pap smear, only with presents."

Realistic and Quirky Heroine (Exibit B)
Evie is great. She's skeptical of anything smacking of true love, after the humorously volatile example her parents set for her (see above), and she's afraid to have children because she doesn't know how to entertain them. Plus, she never has food in her apartment. Kids need to eat. And when she finally decides that her biological clock has been ticking long enough and she should cave to the pressure of the close-knit Bell Harbor community, where life is like a Viagra commercial followed by a Toys 'R' Us advertisement (oh yeah, Tracy is great with comparisons), she makes a list of what she wants in a future husband. A weighted list with things on it like "civic awareness."

Drool-Worthy Hero (Exibit C)
Tyler. Connelly. Don't tell my husband, but boy-oh-boy did this man make me drool. If I was single and he was, well, real, I'd give Evie a run for her money. He's hot, funny, works harder than three normal men put together and has a protective streak a mile wide. A real-life knight in shining armor who is not afraid to buy tampons. Lots of tampons. He might not meet the requirements on Evie's list, but I'd take him with a quickness. I mean, if I weren't married. And if he was real.

I can't stress this enough: buy this book. (Well, pre-order this book. It goes on sale May 13.) Read this book. Love this book. Really, that about sums it up. I'm just super glad I spontaneously bought Brogan's Highland Surrender at my MMRWA retreat a few weeks ago. I can't wait to see what she does with historical romance.

Evelyn Rhoades believes that important decisions in life should be approached scientifically. When her friends talk her into joining an Internet dating site, it’s only natural for her to construct a list of requirements for potential dates. After all, as a plastic surgeon she’s used to prioritizing things in order of importance. Why should this be any different?

Things change when she gets called to do a consult for a sexy, young patient named Tyler. Just the sight of him makes blood rush to places that have been dormant for some time. Just because he’s tall, with broad shoulders and a perfectly symmetrical face shouldn’t give her the right to think naughty thoughts about him.

With Bell Harbor being the small town that it is, it was no surprise that Evelyn seemed to bump into him everywhere she went. And Tyler wasn’t shy about trying to convince her to give him a shot. But one thing’s for sure, he didn’t fit any of the criteria that was on the carefully constructed list of hers. Will she throw caution to the wind and give Tyler a chance? Or are her requirements ones that she’s not willing to bend on?

The Best Medicine is the second book in the Bell Harbor series. It’s chock full of zany, lovable characters that make up this laugh out loud, funny story. As with the first book in the series, I couldn’t put this one down. The very first sentence draws you in and holds you until the very end. I can’t praise Tracy Brogan enough for her brilliant writing and incorporation of such gut busting humor.

THE BEST MEDICINE (A Bell Harbor Series) by Tracy Brogan
Another hilarious romantic comedy by Tracy Brogan for my collection! Tyler is not only going to have you swooning, but he'll definitely win your heart. What a hero! I also loved Dr. Evelyn Rhoades or Evie, which I prefer calling her, who is quite funny, but she doesn't know it.
Even though THE BEST MEDICINE is book 2 of the Bell Harbor Series, you can still enjoy it without having read first CRAZY LITTLE THING- Book 1. But, I highly recommend reading CLT, which may make your reading experience better, if you choose to do so. I gave it 5 hearts!
Characters from CLT make appearances in TBM which I truly enjoyed seeing again, that aunt Dody is a hoot along with others.
My advice, don't read this book in public, you may find yourself trying to fight back bursts of laughter, wiping tears I might add, and those in tender romantic moments. (Yes, this actually happened to me, embarrassing!) This story has lots of laughs, family drama, friendships, adorable pets, small town community traits (gossip!) and most importantly, what holds true value between couples over anything else, LOVE!
I received an ARC for my honest opinion and give this book and author 5 hearts. Tracy Brogan is definitely on my favorite authors list.
