You might think you know the story of Eros and Psyche... but you're wrong.
The day Aphrodite learned of her pregnancy she received a prophecy from the Three Fates, that she would lose the love of her offspring to another. A woman. A mortal woman at that. Determined that that fate will never befall her Aphrodite will stop at nothing to make certain she ruins any chance of happiness for that vile human. There's only one problem, she's not quite sure yet who that woman is. But it's only a matter of time before she discovers her.
Eros. The most beautiful winged male in all of Olympus. Loyal. Brave. And dim. At least that's how all of Olympus sees him. A mindless puppet who serves his mother's every whim, no questions asked. But that's not how Eros views himself. He believes that love is loving despite someone's flaws. And that if his mother demands something of him he must faithfully execute her wishes. But lately, his mother's behavior has grown increasingly wild and erratic. Her demands of him are beginning to make him uneasy. She's gotten colder through the years, crueler even. And now her sights are set on a princess from the land of men. She tells Eros to go and curse the female. And though he goes, this time her demands of him do not sit well in his gut. But when he finally spies the woman, he begins to question all that he believed. And starts to wonder if maybe there is more to his mother's madness than he knew.
There is one on Olympus determined to thwart Aphrodite's efforts. He works in shadows and few could ever imagine just what a formidable foe he can be when he sets his mind to it. But he knows something about the mortal princess that no one else upon Olympus does. Psyche must be saved at all costs. Her fate is far greater than any of them could imagine...
Our beloved Dite from the prior time did not birth Eros in the current time, but she desperately wants her son to love her and to have a relationship with him now. She knows something terrible between them has happened, but she doesn't know the extent of it. Eros always did as his cruel mother bid him, no matter what in hopes it would earn him her love, until one day he realized he could have a love his own. But Fate won't be denied and there's a way this story has to play out to give us the result needed to ensure a certain future, which involves some misunderstanding and heartbreak. Will Dite be able to save Psyche and repair the rift between her and Eros that her predecessor wrought? Will the King of Hearts himself have his heart restored to him?
As always I LOVE this world and each time I read a new one, I'm amazed at the forethought put into it to weave all the tales together that seamlessly bring us to a happy conclusion for each couple while leaving some mysteries to still solve in the future. I did receive an ARC.
I love this series and its take on the Greek pantheon, something that I really loved when I was younger. This story covers Eros and Psyche and has just enough that I recognize the framework of the story but with enough differences that it makes it, well, Jovee Winter's story. As with everything associated with the Pantheon, there' s a fair bit of double crossing and horrible behavior and the book is split into 2 parts, pre and post curse. The pre part takes precedence when it comes to the building of the romance between Eros and Psyche and it feels a little rushed, to be honest, but all of Jovee Winters' books are of a shorter length. It's packed with emotion though so I enjoyed it so much, I couldn't give it less than 5 stars. Not to mention, we see Aphrodite (both good and bad) but the good one, with her Hephy, always brings a smile to my face. Overall, this book sets up for even more books in this world that is beautifully created by this author and I, for one, can't wait to go deeper into the mythology and the happily ever afters.
I fell in love with this world when I read the Sea Queen and since then I’ve devoured every book written in the kingdom world under both the Winters name and the Hall name because they are just such good books. I especially love the fact that though there is an interconnected plot, the vast majority of these books can be read out of order, so when I want to cleanse my mind, I can just grab one of my favorites from the series and not feel as though I have to read the ones that have come before it first. Eros’ story is one of those that while its interconnected within the world and you’d benefit from knowing what happened so long ago, it stands fine on its on. I cannot wait to see whose story we next get. Keep on writing amazing books Ms. Winters!
Why would the God of Love and Sex need a Happily Ever After?
The curse has really messed up lives, but none so much as Aphrodite's. This time line was where an evil, self centered, conniving Aphrodite lived and our beloved one has been thrust into. She has kids with Ares that hate her for who she was and refuse to get to know her as she is now. Eros only sees her as the manipulative mother that he could never please. Now trying to pick up the pieces of his own shattered life, Eros pines away for a love that Aphrodite took away. Once in love with a human named Psyche, Eros looks to Hephaestus for comfort. Not realizing it was going to mean he would have to get involved with our Aphrodite. Will he be able to see who she really is in time to save his happiness and only love? You'll have to read it to find out. Totally riveting.
When you do so great that I can picture you with your own kingdom series on any network in any genre or any rating from pg to x-rated, family friendly to erotica then you know it’s a hit! And the setups for the future kingdoms I peeped that and CANNOT wait!! You showcase previous content with present day goings ons so effortlessly and I’m always amazed at how you piece everything together and I can’t wait to see what you show us next!!
I love Greek Panteon retellings, and the world of Kingdom is one I've followed for quite a while. This story is just as wonderful as all the others. There was a lot more sex than I would have preferred, but it didn't detract from the story itself, which was sweet and entertaining. I really hope the Minotaur gets his own book, as I'm sure Dionysus will too. I look forward to the next installment with bated breath.
Ares and Psyche are perfectly matched. I loved this book so very much. To fall in love and stay in love with someone who you've never seen seems crazy but proves in this instance in "true love". However mistakes are made and hearts can be broken.
Jovee hit this one out of the park!! Epic love story. I can't wait to read the next one!!
Another Aphrodite moment. Didn't know where it was going at first but author as usual gave us the past and present. What a nice story and it certainly is keeping the series afloat. With out knowing all of the wrongs done sometimes a little hard to get caught up. Kingdom is becoming vast with addition of the Greeks. Love it still.
This was a well written story that was filled with Eros' love of Psyche and his relationship with his mother. Aphrodite definitely has two distinct personalities and one definitely holds her own with the Wickedest Queen or Witch you can think of. Thankfully happiness triumphs.
Yet another amazing story, Jovee’s words written so flawlessly across the pages certainly painting the story of Psych and Eros just takes me out of this world and into theirs amazing can’t wait till the next one.
I love these books! Just needs a grammar and spell check. If you have someone proof reading...i would get someone else. But I'll never stop reading. Literally the only book series I buy immediately after it comes out instead of waiting for ku
I love this story Spoiler alert. I don’t get why she was important to the pantheon and what type of god did she became. Also while the story was beautiful, I am so curious about the wine god.
Story of Eros and Psyche. I enjoyed the book. It was interesting to get a glimpse of Aphrodite before the curse and gosh was she a piece of work. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out.
Thank you I love this book so much it was beautiful the story between Psych and Eros hopefully the next one is just as beautiful as all your other books
"We laughed together. We cried together. And there on that bench, we healed together." I honestly don't know if I could have imagined a better, more true book in all of Kingdom. Jovee Winters has blown me away. It was just so beautifully done.
Another smashing twisted fairy tale series filled with hotness and awesomeness that I love coming back to when I have the craving. HEAs all around, magic, steaminess and just the hit I need.
Note: I received an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.
What an amazing kingdom story! While a lot of it is based on Greek myths, Jovee Winters does a great job of bringing us two amazing characters and help towards a character we love so much.
I won’t spoil anything; but the book itself was a great length, good story and the characters themselves made sense. As far as a kingdom story goes, it’s right up there. Not the biggest wow as these aren’t characters that are totally fiction, but Jovee Winters gives them her own spin and they fit well into the Kingdom world we’ve come to know.
If you’re a fan of the books, I can’t think of a reason not to pick up this one. If you’re new, it’s definitely a good read (but you’re best to start at the beginning).
I love this whole series but I especially love Aphrodiety. Especially when she is with Hephy. I had to mark it down a star as this story simply didnt hold my attention as some of the others in the series have. That being said I may have only marked it down because I went in expecting too much because I know how incredible the rest of this series is.
