‘THE GUY SUSPENSE WRITERS READ. I’M A BIG FAN’ Stephen Coonts ‘YOU HAVE TEN DAYS TO RESPOND…’ A lifetime spent fighting other people’s wars had earned John Winter a comfortable early retirement. But when the CIA seizes his money , they quickly realise that their former employee is not a man you want to try to push around . When the former combat pilot and SAS man turned gun-for-hire gives Langley a deadline for its return, the Agency think it holds all the cards. An F-4 Phantom jet fighter , an audacious plan to fly halfway round the world, and a threat to dramatically alter the balance of power in the Middle Easy says they don’t. He asked them nicely. They had their chance. He’s not going to ask again… SAIGON EXPRESS is perfect for fans of Frederick Forsyth, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Stephen Coonts, Dale Brown, Andy McNab and James Deegan. What everyone is saying about John Templeton Smith’s ‘A fighter pilot turned novelist who understands that a great story has to be about more than just awe-inspiring machines. Strap in for jet-fuelled thriller writing’ Rowland White ‘Taut, literate suspense with plenty of action’ Stephen Coonts ‘ A great read if you like a good combination of warrior, pilot, and CIA operations’ ‘It is hard to put down once you start reading the adventures of John Winter’ ‘Another great read from John Templeton Smith’

John Templeton Smith served in the RAF and for a few short years was an airline pilot.

He moved into aerospace journalism in his 30's, before having the good fortune in finding that the bestselling thriller writer, Desmond Bagley, lived nearby.

With Bagley's guidance on writing the novel, Smith went on to produce ten novels beginning with Skytrap (written under the name John Smith, and published by WW Norton, NY in 1984).

Smith went on to teach Creative Writing at Oklahoma City University (OCU) during the late 1980's, and it was during this period that he penned the "John Winter Trilogy": 'White Lie', 'Saigon Express', and 'Then a Soldier'.

Thrilling? Oh, yeah! Crazy stuff going on all the time? Yep! Vivid images of Saigon and Ho Chi Mindh City? Yes, the beauty of it all. Lots of action, intrigue, and even romance? Yep. Good plots, sub-plots, twists and turns? Oh yeah, take notes…you could lost. Will you like it? Well, I sure did!

Great read. A little wordy on the plane descriptions, but author was a pilot.

Lost interest

Not a book that I have enjoyed. Plot too obscure with no prospect of clarity. Just not the book for me.
