Mike Evans lives in Iowa with his wife, children, and two adopted dogs Rusty and Harley Quinn. He writes with a passion to bring his characters to life, to make you fall in love with them, and then make you flip pages to find out if they’ll survive or perish. He keeps his characters realistic, there are no superheroes. There are no perfect characters in his books, everyone has their flaws much like that of life. Mike loves to write in different genres and is unafraid to try something new.
The drama continues as all the characters try making it home to their families. It seems like just when they think they're almost there, something goes wrong. I'm waiting to see if any of the Evans family make it. I thought this was the last book in the series but glad it's not. It's entertaining and funny at times. Only thing is, when I started the first six books were already out so now I have to wait but it's worth it.
The Evans family have lost their home to the zombies, climbing onto the roof to evade Their hungry purple mouths.
Mike hasn't made it back yet from picking up his parents, but was close. Calling home, he got the skinny on the dead at his house and learned the groups escape plan and where they were headed. Everyone out and away is trying to get back to the Sac. Everyone at the Sac is trying to survive, doing their best to have children for the parents trying to get there. The purple cannibalis are trying to eat everyone that isn't purple, or however they know that living folk are good to eat and others (purple cannibals) aren't. There are so many running around (live people) trying to avoid zombies, or trying to kill zombies, or find a way back to the cul-de-sac where everyone seems to be gathered, trying to avoid zombies, or kill the purple cannibals or find somewhere the purple zombies weren't. And so the work continues.
And so, Mike Evans has left his family in the middle of zombie hell, with a few guns and small quantities of ammunition. His kids are trying to keep the rest of the Sac's kids alive and pink. His wife is still trying to get back home on the worst commute of her life, picking up some useful hitchhikers, and some near useless, but one thing they all had on their minds was living through this day and maybe the next.
So many characters, it's hard to keep them straight! Fortunately, some - too many for sure - quickly become purple people eaters and get left behind dead or hungry. Most of the characters are linked to kids at the Evan's home, so I kinda know them, but oops! Now they're purple. Bye bye! Seriously, The storyline is getting a bit knotted here and there, but it is still following the main story just with a lot of curves and kinks. From what I've read and enjoyed, Mike Evans is a master storyteller and has written this series around his family. Genius or court jester - you decide! Pick it up and read it! It's a great read!
This novel brings us to the halfway point in the Zombies on the Block saga. We are still on day one and the book does little more than dedicate one additional chapter to each of the protagonists’ storylines. I think that was unfortunate as it frankly takes several pages of each chapter just to remember who we are dealing with and what their situation is. Focusing more heavily on a handful of characters would have advanced the story better.
In general, there is a lot of zombie killing in this book and a lot of trying to avoid being eaten by zombies. That is true for the series, naturally. There is a little progress made in the main storyline about the kids holed up on the block trying to stay safe.
I am beginning to fear that this story will never get off of day one of the apocalypse.
Ok, so reading Zombie apocalypse books is my guilty please. Over the last few years I have put away about 250 books, some better than others. I am now on book 7 of this series and find that this series is probably one of the best I have gone through. I love the way that Mike Evens spins his stories with just enough gore and sarcasm to make me chuckle when I should and cringe at the horror of it al. I am vested with every character and often sad when they meet an untimely end but later realize that it just had to happen when it did. Mike doesn’t write gore just for gores sake and he is thoughtful in his approach to his characters which makes me just want to know what happens to everyone and how they get out of a horrible situation. All I can say is that after this series I will be checking out his other works and if I could say anything to anyone who just now discovered Mike Evens...read on and hope like hell you NEVER have a Monday like this.
At the Evan's house the fight for survival has taken a turn for the worse forcing Michael and the kids to make some drastic choices that hopefully will work out for them. Other characters are also in danger while trying to survive and get home to their loved ones. Non-stop action and nail biting tension
The storyline is interesting and when the characters aren’t incessantly yammering sarcastic dribble at each other the story is enjoyable. Tone down the constant sarcastic bickering and this would be great.
I really like this series. It’s funny and exciting. My only complaint is that there are too many characters being introduced at a time! That’s probably just me! I like the series and recommend to anyone who loves a different zombie story!! I will definitely buy more as they come out!
Greatest Zombie series of all times. It has what you don't expect as to who dies at the hands of zombies. It has excitement, nail biting action. Waiting for the next book in the series.
All caught up on this series. Really enjoyed all the books. If you haven't read any of this series check it out. Great zombie fiction with a really good cast of characters.
