The Saved and the Sorry

ROX
Everyone thinks they know my story now, but they know nothing.

All I want is to blend into the background.

To become invisible like I once was.

Like I prefer.

Harley is my only salvation in dealing with the backlash my father cultivated.

That is until I’m offered something I can’t turn down.

Something that has me questioning everything I was taught to be.

Something that could cost me Harley forever.

WRAN
Possessive. Impulsive. A hothead.

Everyone thinks they know my story. For the most part, they do. I’m all those things and more.

And that’s exactly how I like it.

It worked for me in the past. It kept people from diving in too deep.

But I can’t go on like this anymore.

I can’t keep hurting the one girl that has been my rock.

I need help.

Or I’m going to lose her forever.

I write YA / NA books, but I don't like being confined to subgenres within those. I read everything from fantasy and sci-fi to paranormal to romance fiction. So, who is to say I won't come out with paranormal series?

My novels usually feature strong girls who are fighting both internal and external battles but usually prevail in the end. There might also be age-gap romances featured. Sue me—I like older men.

I live in Arkansas with my husband who is a Prince fanatic and a few spooky ghosts that like to follow me wherever I go. Don't laugh at the ghosts. They don't like that.

High angst, a dysfunctional love affair, violence, and grit. T. Marie Alexander’s THE SAVED AND THE SORRY is a dark romance that will have readers turning page after page, trying to grasp just how two people can call what they have as love. Addiction might be a better word or maybe, co-dependency.

Wran and Rox pretty much grew up together, even though years separated them. Both have self-esteem issues, both are insecure, both deserve better than what they are getting and neither deserves what the other dishes out. I am also not sure either realize what being a parent is, I am rather glad the state didn’t think they were able to care for a child either. Rox wants her child and Wran, but would that be like gasoline and matches?

T. Marie Alexander has created a stark romance with characters that are hard to truly care about and yet, like a moth to a flame, I couldn’t stop reading couldn’t stop hoping there would be that “moment” when things worked out for them, but will it? Would Rox be better off with Cade or is there something hiding beneath the young man who always seems to ride to her rescue a bit too easily?

If you are sensitive to abuse, physical and mental, or are easily disturbed by the sometimes selfish nature of youth, this may not be for you, BUT, if you enjoy reading the work of an extremely talented author who isn’t about to pull any punches, but puts it all out there, allowing you to squirm a little, I highly recommend taking a look at T. Marie Alexander’s books!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from T. Marie Alexander! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Like the first book in this story, there is a lot going on and it has quite a suspense lead plot. Rox has just laid her father to rest and her relationship with Wran is still toxic. The shining light in her life is Harley but there are complications that she is getting growlingly frustrated with.

Wran has a lot of personal things going on and before he can truly fix things with Rox he needs to sort himself out. If he wants to permanently be with her and be a family, he has a lot of issues to work through.

This instalment is really more about Rox and her best friend Cade. Cade has made no secret about how much he wants to be with Rox, he is in love with her and thinks she can do better than Wran. Cade knows he can give her the life she deserves but if the love isn’t reciprocal is that enough?

Josh has always been there for Rox and Harley so when the goal posts get shifted once again he decides to take matters into his own hands and see what he can do to help Rox. This includes stepping in when Wran can’t seem to make the right choices. Wran reluctantly accepts his brother’s help, if it means he has a future with Rox.

As Rox struggles with her feelings for both Cade and Wran, someone begins leaving messages for her. She feels like she is being followed but also knows with everything else going on in her life she may be seeing things that aren’t there. If only she had trusted her instincts….

Yes, all hell breaks loose and things get a bit crazy. At times I got frustrated with Rox’s behaviour and then I had to remind myself that she was 17 years old. I expected this to be the conclusion to Wran and Rox’s story but there is another book to come and that will bring things back full circle - hopefully giving them the future they desperately want.

The Saved and the Sorry is the second installment in the Kingston City Limits series. I have a lot of mixed feelings with this one. I was thrilled the author reached out to me with this release. I love that while I rated the previous book right down the middle (same as this), I was still into the story. And that is the same case here.

This is a continuation from The Lost and the Scarred, so these must be read in order. Just like in book one, the concept is quite compelling. It's the characters and their actions that hurt the book for me.

There isn't a lot of movement, growth or development with this book til the last 10-15% of it. I struggled through the first 85% of this book because of that. I felt as though a lot of this book is only surface level and the author could have delved a lot deeper with the characters in this book.

I do applaud Rox for finally standing up for herself. I love that Wran decides to get himself help but not thrilled with the reasons why. Cade continuously plays nice guy but uses that against Rox in hopes of making her feel bad enough for him that she'll finally cave (getting real sick of that). Josh is the mediator between them but fails to act any more maturely than any of them.

So I am sure you wondering if I had quite a few issues with the characters and lack of development, why did I rate it a 3 star and how was I able to finish it if I struggled so much??? And in all honesty, it's the concept of this book that has me intrigued and the last 12% saved this book so much. It's where new twists were thrown in the book and things became interesting once again.

I am wondering to see how Ms. Alexander brings this altogether and what happens in the final installment in the Kingston City Limits

All I can say is prepare yourself for a roller coaster ride of emotions! Wran and Rox have endured so much and the punches just keep coming. I need to know what will happen next. The Saved And The Sorry by T. Marie Alexander is a MUST read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!

Thank you to the author for submitting this book for review!
T. Marie Alexander is such a talented author, I'm serious. She always makes me feel SO MANY EMOTIONS. I've yet to read something by her that doesn't grab me by the throat with its complex characters and gritty realities. I'm pretty sure I will always be up to read anything she writes. That being said...

Umm so this book sort of lost me a bit. I might be screaming...don't worry about it haha. Still, it was addicting as hell and had me devouring page after page but I admit towards the end I was getting frustrated enough to start skimming... I definitely will be anxious to read book 3 where everything is promised to be resolved but yeah this one didn't quite win me over (Why won't characters just do what I want them to??) and here's why:
(I'll start with the bad and end with the good!)

1. I hate Cade. So. Much. He suffers from "Nice Guy" Syndrome and it made me want to stab him. Just because you're a "nice guy" doesn't mean she owes you anything. It just makes you a self-entitled douche canoe. She keeps setting boundaries and he keeps ignoring them. Respect her choices, dick, and be a good friend until (and only IF) she decides she wants something more. Nothing he did was romantic, it just made me mad. That being said she starts slipping up more and more with him and blurring those boundaries which isn't fair to him and that leads me to #2...

2. There's a real Bella & Jacob thing going on in this book and it drove me up a damn wall. I quote: "I will try...It's the least I can do after all the things he's done for me." GIRL YOU OWE HIM NOTHING. If you say you want to just be friends then he needs to freaking respect that. Not that you owe Wran anything either (and yeah that relationship has its own issues to be sure but at least they were both honest about it unlike pretentious Cade who thinks he's such a damn saint) but he's making an effort for you, he's finally listening to you, he's going against himself to break down whatever is twisting him up inside for you and she just tosses that aside like it means nothing. I'm not saying she has to brush all their problems aside because of that but I needed her to acknowledge and appreciate his efforts because she supposedly loves him and someone like Wran willingly committing themselves to therapy is a major step. Romantic or not if you love that person you should be cheering them on.

2.5 That ending??? BULLSHIT. And she's still living with Cade??? That she was living with him at all is ridiculous. I thought she would have run off to live with Josh, ya know, family. Not some idiot desperate to get in her pants despite praising himself for wearing a supposed halo. She needs to either live with Josh or someplace on her own or with literally anyone but Wran or Cade until she goes to therapy and sorts herself out. I am in a literal rage after the ending of this book. I would have thrown my book but it's a Kindle and I love it too much.

3. I love that Wran goes to therapy. I LOVE that. Progress!! But Rox is deluded if she doesn't think she should be shipping her ass somewhere to work out her issues too (of course that wouldn't look great to social services...then again a kid needs a mom with a healthy mind, not an unstable barely 18-year old). I was so happy when Raven reached out and introduced her to some friends because Rox needs that. She needs good friends who are just good friends and can support her. Not more boys trying to control her life. *glares at Josh, Wran, and Cade* She irritated me in this book. Such a Bella. And a party?? I feel bad for Rox but it's true "I don't have the luxury of acting like everyone else." She has some heavy adult problems and realities to face which sucks but she needs to quit letting Cade or herself sway her into thinking "a night off" to "be normal" is possible because it isn't. Not right now and not for her. It could be if she had a good support system, her daughter at home with her, family to help raise the kid, etc. But she's walking on damn thin ice and gosh she was such a teenager. Which...I guess she is one...

THINGS I LOVED!
1. Wran going to therapy. YES YES YES. I am ALL here for this bad boy to step up and work on himself for not only love but his own mental health. Therapy doesn't mean you're weak, it means you're smart, and strong, and still alive in there.

2. Raven and crew. They're awesome or at least they were for the FIVE SECONDS WE GOT TO MEET THEM. Ugh, Rox, ditch Cade and bring them back please.

3. Getting those legal wheels turning to help Rox gain custody of her daughter. YAS! Slim shot or not they should've gotten a lawyer a while ago. Also props for calling in the FBI for once (although there's no way they'd let civilian Cade waltz in there).

In summation... T. Marie Alexander does it again with her talent to craft characters that are gritty and get under your skin. I read this book so fast and I will 100% be keeping a look out for the finale. Wran is working on himself and now I need Josh to quit meddling, Rox to start working on herself, and Cade to take a long walk off a short pier.

This book I have had sitting on my Kindle for a while now as I read the first one a few years back - Christmas Eve, 2019 - almost four years ago. In the first one The Lost and the Scarred, we read our Roxie came to meet Wran and his brother Josh and about her evil father James. Roxie also managed to get pregnant at 15 to Wran and her baby Harley was uplifted and Josh had sent Wran away so he wouldn't get into trouble as there is an age gap between them. Now in Book #2, Wran is back in Roxie's life and she is also trying to be normal and attend school. The thing though is that Wran and Roxie together, no matter how much they love each other and would die for one another - the pairing is toxic with a capital T as they are two co-dependant on each other and if Roxie is going get custody of her daughter back then she has to get her head screwed on and follow the rules which she can't when Wran is around. Enter Cade - he is Roxie's best friend and your average Nice Rich Guy. To be honest, she is better off being with him - but she loves Wran too much. I got a bit frustrated with the character Roxie in this book as she keeps playing the two guys, it's like just choose one and be done - stop messing with them, and to be honest, she is quite a selfish character. Yes, terrible things happened to her, but it's like stop playing the victim and having the guys fawn all over you and go save your daughter, Go and learn how to be the best mum you can be instead of this helpless female who blames her past for who she is - total victim mentality. I did like the character Josh though, as at least he's busy playing the grown-up and wants to do the right thing for everyone including little Harley. The book ends on a major cliffhanger and leaves readers with another twisted ending to come to terms with which leads readers to want to read Book #3 The Worthy and the Willful. If you are in the mood for some OG New Adult angst, then check out the Kingston City Limit Series by T. Marie Alexander as the angst in this rivals Tessa and Hardin's in the After series.

Definitely liked a lot more than I thought I was gonna

I was excited to jump into book 2 especially after the events in book 1.
Although it’s very good I Got Very frustrated with this book. LOL.
there was a lot going on
All thought there was a lot I like there was a lot I didn’t
Book one- my heart broke for rox.
Book two - my heart broke for wran.
Not gonna lie rox kinda pissed me ( but not as much as cade )
I hate that she doesn’t seem to know what she wants and I know she’s been through a lot and I mean a lot, but it’s as if she can’t think for herself and is being irrational and with cade constantly thinking for her.
I didn’t enjoy the love triangle between rox , Wran & Cade. I wanted to just push cade away and tell him to back off. He doesn’t know his place and he pissed me off the most
Cause He was just constantly in the picture and breathing down her throat trying to control
Her and her feelings.
Wran is her soul mate. Wran will do just about anything for her and prove that he’s not the monster she seem to think he is even though she loves him. Wrans been through a lot and so has rox they have both hurt each other and lets move on from the past and look forward to the future. ) and I want cade out of the way ) go read guys you’ll enjoy it as well

The Saved and the Sorry by T. Marie Alexander is the second book in the series. Do not, I repeat, Do not read out of order. The book picks up right where the last one ended. Which is great if you read back to back. But I didn’t do that since I had received the first as an ARC as well. I think you should read back to back if at all possible. You will be lost momentarily.

As you guessed this one has the same characters as the first book. Yet, Cade has more of a role in this book. You will find yourself on team Cade or team Wran. I am team Wran. I don’t like Cade. Cade is like the lost puppy that won’t leave you alone, even if you don’t feed it! Rox and Wran blow up and Wran leaves to get help just like she wanted. Cade takes advantage and wants all of Rox’s attention and her love. I hate it! Rox has to choose between them. Who will she choose? Who will her heart want? Will she get her daughter back? Will she have her family like she’s always wanted?

T. Marie Alexander did a great job on the character's personalities. I found myself getting aggravated even though they are just fictional characters.

~3.5 Star Review~

We are back and I am still webbed in the circle of three. Even though I have come to love these characters, the story line with book two threw me off slightly. I felt as we were stuck on the character growth a tad. I was rushing to get to the part that I knew was going to slay it like the first book did for me. It came, but it took a bit of a slow burn to really get the heart pumping and the angst of what will happen next come to light.

I still love our characters, I sometimes would get frustrated with their decisions, but knew we would get more soon. There was a lot of back of forth with decisions that needed to be made. I expected that we would not get the final conclusion as there will be a third book. That is the one that I eagerly waiting for as there will be some new directions that these characters will make. Until the next book!

Rox and Wran have been through tons in their short lives and it's not over yet. After Wran saves Rox from her father they both have to come to terms with what happened. Wran goes down a deep dark hole and keeps hurting everyone he loves and Rox even more than most. Now he has to decide if he's going to get help or keep hurting himself and others. Rox only wants Harley in her life and to keep her safe. But her past keeps finding ways to through things our of balance.

A really tragic story of young love and ALL the problems they face, a little too many for my tastes. The first two books were long and both ended in a cliffhanger and book 3 doesn’t come out to 2021.

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you T. Marie Alexander!

The Saved and the Sorry
is the second book in the Kingston City Limits series and continues the story of Rox and Wran!

I remember really liking The Lost and the Scarred, it was the first time that I’ve read a book by T. Marie Alexander and the story really surprised me. I really liked that the characters and the story were a bit different than I was used to and it was just so interesting. However, I don’t have the same feelings for The Saved and the Sorry.

For some reason I couldn’t really get into the story and the characters were often annoying or I just couldn’t understand their actions. I have mixed feelings about this book because I like the concept in general and the first book was good, but for some reason I didn’t enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed reading the first book.

The Saved and the Sorry was a bit of a frustrating read. There were a few times that characters acted in a certain way and I just couldn’t enjoy reading about it. There were a few things that I really liked about this book such as Wran going to therapy, that was really realistic and I liked that he wanted to do something about his behaviour. But besides the few negative points, I’m still looking forward to the third and final book in the series!
