The warden of Angola Prison is defrauding the state out of millions by secretly using convicted serial killer, Xavier Redimere, as the official executioner, but his plan explodes when Xavier falls in love with a death row inmate - a woman who killed her husband after years of abuse. When Angola prison’s official death row executioner can live with himself no longer and commits suicide, WARDEN FALLON forces XAVIER REDIMERE, a convicted serial killer on death row, to carry out sentence on his fellow inmates. As the years pass, Xavier gets to know each convicted murderer before electrocuting them in ‘Old Sparky’. Hearing their stories… and their confessions, Xavier learns a great deal about himself and the consequences of his life of crime. Xavier begins to find the humanity he lost as a child when he killed his own father to save his mother’s life. After developing an unexpected friendship with the senior prison guard, Xavier finds true love in the most unlikely of places… death row. Xavier, the once cold-blooded serial killer, is devastated when he realizes he must carry out the execution of the one true love of his life.
Great characters with a captivating plot. Clearly the author should have used a fictitious Florida prison. The author doesn't demonstrate knowledge of The Angola Plantation or even the feel and flavor fo the great state of Louisiana. The author is writing about the "Florida Man" and "Florida Woman" as characters who are eating Florida food and drinking Florida drinks.
Suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing. I was captivated from start to finish. Michael was superb in his character development and descriptions. The way he dedicated storyline to each character helped me buy-into the story and kept me wondering which direction it would go. The evil he portrayed was phenomenal. Michael showed, whether intentional or not, that personality traits are developed from environmental influences.
This was one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Although not thrilled with the ending, I understood why it happened. I highly recommend Executioner’s Remorse.
The writer of this book is a member of my running club and book club chose this book. I think there were too many chapters but it’s definitely a page turner.
