Rate this book
This story begins two years before the birth of Temujin (Genghis Khan) when his, father Yesugai kidnapped Ho-Helen his mother to be, from the man she had just married. Temujin birth under auspicious circumstances. His betrothal at age nine to Borte. and the murder of his father at this time by Tartars. His family is deserted by their clan and they are left destitute on the steppe, Ho-Helen struggles to feed her family digging up roots and eating steppe rats. Temujin and his brother Kasar kill their stepbrother. For this deed, Temujin is taken and made a slave. his escape from slavery and his rise to power uniting the Mongol tribes and moulding them into a nation. The Mongol Nation raised him to the title of Genghis Khan. all of the incidents in this novel actually occurred, according to the secret history of the Mongols, all I have done is put the words into the mouths of the characters. The names of the main characters have been Anglicised, other characters names are spelt as the Secret History spells them. I have attempted to capture the intonation of the language, as the Mongols did not have a written language they would repeat a sentence saying it in a different way, so as to show breeding. there are several instances of this in this book, as translated from reports of the people who witnessed them.
