Marriage to a woman with no designs on Theo’s body in her bed nor his heart at her feet. As she is in possession of the largest conservatory in England, it is an offer he finds difficult to refuse. Even if the lady in question with the face of a fairy queen and the disposition of a disgruntled hedgehog is daughter to a notorious murderer.

After her father’s suspicious death, confirmed spinster Eden Turner is on the verge of losing both her fortune and her estate at Longbow. Family friend Sir Stirling James offers a practical solution. Marriage to a man whose only requirements are a bed and free run of Longbow’s considerable conservatory. Marriage to a studious botanist with no interest in entanglements of the heart seems a small price to pay to secure all she holds dear. Even if the botanist in question has the face of a Greek warrior, the body of a blacksmith, the appetite of a hoard of locusts, and a voice that turns her knees to jelly.

Louisa Cornell read her first historical romance novel, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, at the age of nine. This inspired her to spend the next three years of her young life writing the most horrible historical romance novel ever written. Fortunately it has yet to see the light of day. As Louisa spent those three years living in a little English village in Suffolk (Thanks to her father's Air Force career.) it is no surprise she developed a lifelong love of all things British, especially British history and Regency-set romance novels. (And Earl Grey tea!)

During those same three years, Louisa's vocal talent was discovered. Her study of music began at the London College of Music and continued once she returned to the States. After four music degrees and a year of study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, Louisa was fortunate enough to embark on a singing career in opera houses in Germany, Austria, and most of Eastern Europe.

Now retired from an active career in opera, Louisa has returned to her first love – writing Regency-set historical romance. She has completed four books to date and A PERFECTLY DREADFUL CHRISTMAS is her publication debut.

Two time Golden Heart finalist, three time Daphne du Maurier winner, and three time Royal Ascot winner, Louisa is a member of RWA, SMRWA and the Beau Monde Chapter of RWA. She lives in LA (Lower Alabama) with a Chihuahua so grouchy he has been banned from six veterinary clinics, several perfectly amiable small dogs, and a cat who terminates vermin with extreme prejudice.

Will her secrets keep them apart …

I had no idea about this author until yesterday, there are so many I do not know, but when I saw this specific book advertised in an author I read newsletter, I checked and discovered I already owned it, so it was the easy step to give it a go.

The hero is much entertaining in how he deals with his struggles and his single-mindedness about botany, so easy to like as his past is quickly outlined and explains his present circumstances.
He might have scandal attached to his name, he had to made things do with what nature offered him, a made for sin body even if his most precious asset is his brain. Ladies in need of a lovers have no need of it. But now he looks like he is once more down his luck and in need of a new path.
I can not say I liked as much the heroine at the beginning, she appears so cold and withdrawn, I did not know at first what to think about her. She looks like a trapped animal, she lashes out and bites to protect herself.
During her first encounters with Theo, she is so dismissive of him, I wondered what was she hiding. And secrets she does have.
Yet at the same time, she shows she cares, with their back and forth notes, she unwillingly reveals she takes care of those she considers hers.

This book was a surprise from beginning to end, an awesome wonderful clever humor-full witty surprise. I now need to check this authors back list and upcoming releases.
She has matched together unconventional heroes, with a man turned cicisbeo to feed himself and his need for knowledge and a woman who crumbles under her many secrets. Yet they meet in the middle and learn to embrace the other flaws and praise their talents.

I investigated this series, it is astonishing, over 50 books from multi authors, I only read another one. I just wonder if there is a prequel for this series, starring Sir Stirling James.

The story was interesting and often humorous. It was short and I prefer longer stories, especially in historical romance. The plot kept me guessing. I really liked the characters, especially Theo and the outspoken housekeeper who made me laugh out loud. The writing style drove me a bit crazy because it was overly wordy and repetitious. I often had to re-read a paragraph to try to understand the author's intent because the story was buried in a lot of extra verbage. But the story was otherwise good.

'A Study in Passion' was an engaging and emotion-filled read! I appreciated the historical accuracy, and the bits of humor actually had me laughing out loud. I loved the H/h and their banter, and the mystery of who was trying to kill Theo -- or Eden? -- had a nice twist.
