Academy of Mages & Shifters #1

Academy of Mages & Shifters I

Rate this book
Four gorgeous dragon shifters want me as their mate.

At the Academy of Mages and Shifters, every druidess needs to find her harem.

And since I’m the new Irishwoman who comes from a long line of druidess priestesses, I’ve got a target over my head.

Connor – he’s sought after by pretty much every druidess in the school just because he’s hot and shares the same blood as Merlin.
Duncan – is the opposite of Connor. He’s easy on the eyes and has the biggest arms I’ve seen on a man. But he’s surprisingly soft spoken.
Trevor – Scottish dragon. Smaller than the rest of the group but is quick and witty.
Artemis – the most magical of the dragons as his mom is a druidess. He’s certainly charming, but that could be deceiving at times.

When I’m assigned to take on a mission with these guys, I begin to see why other druidesses find them so attractive.

The problem is, a demon is wreaking havoc on the Academy and the higher-ups want us to destroy it.

Talk about getting thrown into the deep end.

On top of that, I need to find my harem before the end of the year and I’m not sure these guys are the right ones.

No pressure right?

Was the author of this 11?

What on earth.

The worst part is it’s supposed to be RH. I didn’t realize that going in. But literally the whole “plot” of the book is for the girl to go to the school to find a harem…. But again the writing was extremely juvenile. Not just the writing in general but the characters too but a “mature” plot 😭

Honestly there was so much cringe in this book. Basically every other sentence out of someone’s mouth I was cringing. The writing level and storyline is basically the equivalent of those like 13 year old kids who do POV videos on tiktok.

This is supposed to be a reverse harem series with an 18 year old girl. Yet it starts out with her terrified to even enter her new school (despite coming there under normal, nonfrightening circumstances). Her "rock bottom" that she doesn't think she can recover from is having no friends and the schools most popular guy comes to sit with her in class and flirting arrogantly. This is incredibly juvenile and just lame. Especially since its supposed to be a RH series; I expected less middle school type emotions/actions.

It's Okay

Spoiler Alert!

Okay so if you like insta... everything, this is the book for you. The FMC spends exactly one minute doing the: I'm not THAT girl. I'm not going to throw myself at anyone and I am here to learn not fall in love with a dragon herem. She says she is not intrested and one of the MMC throws a tantrum. Without knowing her the other MMCs, surrounded by girls who want to be in their herem so badly, they decide she is interesting. Without the FMC seeming to do any magic at all, she is the most powerful girl in the academy. From there it's an easy adventure and instas. The story was not boring but it was a little annoying with how fast the FMC decided she IS that girl now.

It definitely needs a lot of work. It reads as it was written by a preteen. I really don't understand why is it so hard for the main character to have some female friends. All the females beside the main girl (and I guess her mom/gradma) are portrayed in a bad light and the only perfect one is obviously just her. Plotwise it also needs some work. Some extra explanation about the world/magic wouldn't hurt either. Really disappointing.

Horrid all around

This author clearly needs a dictionary, immediately. The flat out incorrectly used words were everywhere and not due to slang. There was no real world building, and while there were some info dumps, they were generic and not true storytelling. The characters were one dimensional and blah. I'll make sure to avoid this author from now on.

If you are into unnecessary drama that doesn't have a ground foundation or reason it's for you. If you like mean girls that never have character development, it's for you. If you like the complete absence of world building, it's for you! Unfortunately, not for me.

This is the first book I have read by this author & it was a great introduction to the Academy of Mages & Shifters. The 5 main characters had their own individual characteristics, they had banter, chemistry & were mainly likeable apart from Connor who behaves like a complete jack ass & a big one at that(you always get one😂) but in the end I found myself rooting for him. There are also quite a few other characters in the background who perhaps might become more involved or more will come to light about them as the series continues? The story kept me engaged, it dragged me into their world & kept me turning the pages where I ended up reading it all in one sitting as I just had to find out what happened & if they became a harem of not? The only negative about this book was the editing as the copy I read was full of mistakes & errors which got a bit frustrating & made it a bit confusing in some parts to read hence for me giving this book only 4* & not 5, but I persevered as I wanted, no I needed to find out if they got there HEA or not? Sorry no spoilers here, you will have to read it & find out for yourselves. Overall this book has a bit of everything including the sexy, spectacular Dragon shifters. Not just 1, but 4 of them & at the end of the day who wouldn't love or could even resist them especially when they come in the form of Connor, Artemis, Duncan & Trevor! All I will say is, Megan is a very lucky girl!

The cast of characters is fantastic, because what book wouldn’t be perfect if it had dragons? Add in a druidess and demons, and the temperature starts to rise exponentially! Especially because our heroine gets to check out four of the dragons as possibilities for her harem! Her choices, and she is not limited to one, are: CONNOR – he’s sought after by pretty much every druidess in the school just because he’s hot and shares the same blood as Merlin; DUNCAN – is the opposite of Connor. He’s easy on the eyes and has the biggest arms I’ve seen on a man. But he’s surprisingly soft spoken; TREVOR – Scottish dragon. Smaller than the rest of the group but is quick and witty; and ARTEMIS – the most magical of the dragons as his mom is a druidess. He’s certainly charming, but that could be deceiving at times.

And Megan has until the end of the year to make a final harem selection – why is she not sure these four guys are the ones? Grab your copy and see how she narrows down her choices, if that’s even possible!

Megan is a druids and she is going to the Academy of Shifters and Mages to learn more and develop her harem of shifters she doesn't care about any of that especially when she gets snubbed her first day and sees someone named Connor getting close to another Druidness ugh there only here to party and have sex she wants more but at this Academy we're only the popular ones get any attention that will be hard. Why is my roommate a nightmare the most popular boy now trying to get my attention why he can have anyone I wish he would just leave me alone. But now I'm stuck working with Connor, Artemis, Duncan and Tanner. This mission will either get us all killed or bring us together.

This is a very light romance when it comes to RH Megan has confidence issues but when it comes to Connor they bicker allot. The guys are okay but they lack something I wish they were more fully developed im not sure if this is going to be a series and if we will see more about Megan and her guys but it was and easy read so its a 3.4 rating for me.

Has she found her harem? Megan is so excited to by starting at the academy. All she cares about is studying and getting good grades. Her roommate is a nightmare and she hasn’t made any friends but she sure has made an enemy. Connor the head of a dragon pack of four has decided to bother her. Because she hasn’t fallen all over him like the other druidesses, this dragon shifter wants her adoration also and is singling her out and annoying her in class. It gets to a point she has to tell him what she really thinks of him. But then she gets pared with him and his three pack members for a class project. They have to monitor a portal where demons might come through. Now chasing and catching a demon is their goal and she is spending days with these guys. She really likes all of them except Connor but for them to be her harem she has to bond with all of them. Now what does she do? Academy of Mages and Shifters: book 1 is a book I purchased from Amazon. I have to say, I wasn't sure about this story when the main character, Megan, was "leaving my home town of Ireland." Pretty sure Ireland is a country, not a town.

For some reason, Megan felt she was going to be ostracized for being Irish-- yet there was no real explanation given as to why she felt this way. The book was contained some noticeable spelling and word use errors (e.g. your=you're, scored=scorned, improvement=approval) and Megan is a giggler, which I find irritating (for goodness sake, the girl is 18, not 10).

There was also a "strangeness" to a portal, but that observation was never explained or relevant to the story.

Overall, while there were some positive relationship aspects to the story, but so much of the plot didn't make sense. There is potential here, but more detail is needed, and a proofread would be helpful.

Megan is from a long line of druidesses from Ireland. Her ancestress was one of the people who founded the academy. She runs into Connor, one of the dragon shifters and sees him with other women. She gets to the academy and doesn't want to do anything but learn. She has no experience, but knows that eventually she will need to find a harem of shifters. She is assigned to work with Connor and the other three dragon shifters to guard one of the places that demons try to slip into the world as their job is to guard against demons getting into the world. What will happen at Inverness? Will Megan find her harem? What happens to Connor and the rest of the dragon shifters? I loved reading this story. It was a fast-paced and action packed book. Thank you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of the book.

Cute

I love the world that Laura Wylde creates. I'm sad the next book won't be about this harem. The book had some great moments, but I think a few things should have been drawn out. The romance for one. The characters had an enemies to lovers vibes then they switched gears on the reader over night. I would of liked to see more magic in the classes, maybe her showing off? Even the struggles with the other women should have been drawn out. BUT this was a cute romance, and I enjoyed reading about her and her dragons. This book is okay for older teens. The love making sense are brief and don't go into detail. All in all, not too bad for a sweet instant romance book. I enjoyed it.

Megan was a druidess and going to Academy was her next step to learn lessons and find a harem. She always kept to herself and didn't have friends. The dragons Conner, Trevor, Artemis and Duncan with Conner taking the lead to go and sit by her in demons class. When they touched they both felt an electrical current run through them. Since the Conner couldn't figure out the emotions he was feeling. Needless to say they were put into a group for a project and would learn so much from it. This is just the beginning cant wait for the next book.

We have bullying and hurt, but there is some strength in Megan and you probably will cry for her. Megan is from Ireland and being sent to United Kingdoms Academy for Druidic and shapeshifter mages. No one is very friendly with her being from Ireland. Then one day Connor starts in with her and she wants nothing to do with his arrogant self. Now one of his clan is helping her and Connor ruins it. But Why? Artemis, Duncan and Trevor are nice, but Connor runs them. Now what is going to happen with having to do an assignment with them.

Academy of images and Shifters

It was a wonderful story of loves and trials making mistakes and correct ing them and gaining confidence in your self and those you love. I chose this rating because it was well written and I think it is great . The only thing I don't like is that it left a few things left that I would like to have finished. Does Zena become a enemy and cause trouble for them? Are there any more books in this series. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 14 as the sex is Does not go into details witch is great. Good read Thanks. Alice D Addie

2,5ish?
Honestly I like the idea especially the possibilities at the beggining if thats gonna be an enemies to lovers type of sort ot a “She’s all that” kinda vibe. But no… in some part it was toooo descriptive than some part were just rushed… like what really happend with the demon? How the chasing went? So kinda like mushed the adventure part than the overthinking of the relationships from each angle got too descriptive…
And really: “the world is gonna be our oyster?” aaaah whut? And why?
So a good idea of the book however had some issues with the execution.
I bought the whole series in one pack bit may just finish here… not sure yet….

Academy of Mages and Shifters

A cute stand alone book. A druidess going to the Academy not only to learn but to find her harem. Connor had all the gals after him except for the one he wanted. So he acted out. Lucky for him his harem brothers stepped up. Artemis was my favorite of all! They had to destroy a demon, bond and decide if being together was happening which duh! I still have questions on why the demon didn't destroy stuff and the big Ben issues so would have liked explanation on that. But all in all a cute story.

The story isn't bad. It has a very interesting plot.
Megan is a druidess in search for her own harem inside the academy before the year end, and she's new to the academy, which makes so much pressure for her. Especially that Connor is an arrogant ass to her while the other guys in the harem like her. But with her own charms, she easily got their heart while fighting the demon.

The story was not bad. But could have been a lot better... I just need more romantic moments. And i hope to see it in Book 2. But then, it was still a good read. A book worth reading of. 😊

This story was a sweet and sort of tame Academy RH. The story progressed fairly fast for me. I found the characters to be a little one dimensional. Nothing about either of them jumped out and grabbed me, found it hard to try and connect me to them. And Conner's feelings were kind of confusing. But the ending ended up being sweet.

This is a great book. I was not able to put it down. Megan is starting her first semester at the Academy of Mages and Shifters. Megan is a druidess and is supposed to find a harem. She believes that all she needs to do is study and learn. That is until she meets Connar, Artemis, Trevor, and Duncan.

This is a great read and I can not wait to read more!!

First let me state that I received an advanced reader copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

Holy shiznet!!! I really enjoyed this story. At this academy, druidesses usually find their Dragon harem, (4 dragons), as well as learning. This is one story of a harem coming together, as well as searching for and fighting a demon. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up

Megan is a druidess and she just started her first term at the Academy of Mages and Shifters. She needs to learn as much as possible and she needs to find her harem. But Megan is a shy quiet girl who wants to keep herself to herself but Connar, Artemis, Trevor, and Duncan have other plans.
This is a good read, it was great to see Megan grow.

This had great potential but the writer really needs editorial assistance. There were so many cringe worthy moments in terms of errors. For example, a character is mentioned as Damon, there is no Damon in the story. His name is Duncan. The immature writing and lack of depth really turned me away from even bothering with the rest of the series. It is too bad because I really did like the concept of Druids with different types of shifters harems.

Not a great book. I can forgive some of the grammatical errors though they were annoying. However the absolute asshole that was the main dragon, and how the main FMC has to keep pushing down her opinion because it will set him off just screams abuse to me. They should have kicked Connor to the curb and moved on as a group - it would have been way preferable. He did not redeem himself, he was an arse.

This is an amazing book. This book focuses on the romance between a druidess and her harem. As I am British I loved the fact that this book was set in the UK. I really look forward to the next book in the series! Hopefully, we get to see more of this harem!
