I thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with Andi Grace & Marc, as well as their canine companions Sunny & Chubb. I also loved spending more time with Andi Grace’s brother Nate and her best friend Juliet and getting to know them a bit more than we did in book 1. And of course I’m a huge fan of the continuing romance (and genuine affection & respect) between Andi Grace & Marc … and the sparks between Nate & Juliet too. The mystery is again very well done and full of plausible suspects. In Bite the Dust I had the “who” figured out pretty quickly but the “why” remained a puzzle until a reveal that had me holding my breath; in Dog-Gone Dead, I kept changing my mind about the “who” even though I was fairly certain (at least in a general sense) about the “why”. I was pleased that both books were different enough to avoid falling into a predictable pattern, yet they both shared that warmth I loved so much in Bite the Dust. And while I’m glad I read book 1 first, Dog-Gone Dead can easily work as a stand-alone too.

Bottom Line: Dog-Gone Dead is a delightful, warmly written cozy mystery! The main characters are quite likable – both the two and four legged varieties – and the host of possible suspects will keep you guessing right up to the very end. Faith, family & friends are central to the story’s backdrop & add further layers to our amateur sleuth Andi Grace. A well-written & enraging whodunit!

Dog-Gone Dead is dog-gone good. An enjoyable series with likeable characters, nice setting and the ending was a bit of a surprise.. I especially like the family dynamics and supportive friendships. I have not read the first book in the series but it only took a little bit to feel caught up so this could easily be read as a stand alone.

Thanks to Bell Bridge Books and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

Dog-Gone Dead by Jackie Layton has Andi Grace Scott and her best friend, Juliet Reed out early to pick up mulch from her brother, Nate. They arrive to find Corey Lane dead under a pile of mulch and her brother who looks like he has gone three rounds in the fighting ring. Nate’s tools had been used to kill Corey which has him in handcuffs. Andi Grace has no choice but to dive into the case and track down the real killer. Dog-Gone Dead is the 2nd book in A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery. I had not had the pleasure of reading Bite the Dust, and I found that this did not hinder my reading experience. Everything a reader needs to know is included. There are realistic characters and a small-town feel. I like it when the characters have flaws and struggles. Andi Grace is close to her siblings and her best friend Juliet is like another sister. Andi Grace is busy turning the plantation she inherited into a bed and breakfast with Juliet plus building up her dog walking business. She also has plans for the barn on the estate. But when her brother is accused of a crime, Andi Grace does not hesitate to investigate. There mystery has interesting clues and red herrings that will have you doubting if you arrived at the correct solution. It is fun following Andi Grace along with her family and friends as they work to catch the killer. I was happy that there was a complete wrap up of the case. I could have done without the endless speculation and the repetition of case details. There are sweet and loyal dogs in this story plus puppies (a little three legged one). I Love how much Andi Grace cares for animals. There is romance in the air in Heyward Beach. Andi Grace is dating a lawyer who makes her heart beat faster. Juliet would love for Nate to see her in a romantic light. Prayer and faith are lightly touched upon in the story. Dog-Gone Dead is a cute cozy with delightful dogs, vibrant VW Bug, murderous mulch, a set-up sibling, curious clues, and a stubborn, sleuthing sister.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were complex and relatable, and the addition of dogs made it even more fun. I liked the setting of the book, as well as the plot and storyline which I think was well written.

I'm absolutely loving this series! It's set in such an awesome place, and I'm really getting invested in these characters! Andi Grace is someone I'd sure love to have for a friend since she shares my basic values along with a love of dogs. It's so cool how she finds dogs and can somehow talk people into adopting them, lol. It's funny how Marc warned his friend she'd be after him as well to adopt a pup. I like how she goes about it too. She's not overbearing or a hard sell when it comes to someone taking a new dog into their lives.

This was a mystery that hit close to home for Andi Grace, and she worked her best amateur sleuthing to keep her brother Nate out of jail. I was actually surprised at whodunit this time having expected it to be someone else. The showdown could've gone terribly wrong, but along with being a good listener and talker, Andi Grace was quick to make a move that'd save her and the dogs.

I'm heading on to read the next book since the fourth one comes out on February 15, just next Tuesday.

Fun reading! Author Jackie Layton writes delightful cozy mysteries!

Dog-Gone Dead is the second book I’ve read in author Jackie Layton’s Low Country Dog Walker Mystery series. Selfless heroine Andi Grace faced some challenges raising her siblings.....and now finds herself involved in solving murders happening in Heyward Beach.

In Dog-Gone Dead, her brother is accused of murdering a local business man. The story weaves around possible suspects as Andi Grace investigates what happened while also caring for her doggie clients and opening her bed and breakfast inn. A romantic plus is watching the more-than-friendship relationship with handsome attorney Marc Williams develop.

I truly enjoyed the warm small town atmosphere with interesting characters and charming eateries. I felt like I was on a virtual vacation with friends. As for the cozy mystery part, I was concerned for the safety of Andi Grace, plus the clues sprinkled throughout the story kept me trying to solve the murder. I was guessing until the end. Great reading!

I love cozy mysteries. Dog-Gone Dead is one of the best I've read. Andi Grace is a delightful, determined young woman who wants her brother freed. She snoops in all the wrong places and gets herself in trouble with the local police. As she solves this murder mystery she and her sweet dog will endear themselves to you. Just as they did me. And you just might find a bit of romance. I love the setting. Makes me want to head to the beach. I haven't read book one of the series, but I have it downloaded on my Kindle and ready to be read. If you enjoy clean, cozy mysteries, you'll love this book. Take this one on vacation! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Dog-Gone Dead by Jackie Layton
Book #2: A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery
Source: NetGalley and Bell Bridge Books
Rating: 4/5 stars

**CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR BOOK ONE**

In the span of a few weeks’ time, Andi Grace Scott has gone from being the proud and very happy owner of a small yet comfortable seaside home to the wary and uncertain owner of a large, old southern plantation. With the help of her best-friend, Andi Grace has decided to convert the big house into a bed and breakfast and some of the outer buildings into sites appropriate for her own ever-expanding dog walking/care business.

Andi Grace has no intention of running the B & B, but she is the ultimate owner and that means making sure everything is up to snuff for the grand opening. With just a few days remaining and a tight budget, Andi Grace has bought her landscaping supplies from her brother’s business and intends to do the heavy lifting herself. However, before Andi Grace can get to work shoveling mulch, she has to deal with the very dead body she’s stumbled upon and her completely disoriented and concussed brother.

With her new boyfriend by her side, Andi Grace dives into another murder investigation. To be fair, Andi Grace didn’t go looking for the dead guy, but she certainly found him and, unfortunately all the evidence points to her younger brother being the killer. With no doubt in her heart or mind about her brother’s innocence, Andi Grace has no choice but to get him out of the sheriff’s line of sight. Given the identity of the victim, finding a football field’s worth of evidence shouldn’t be all that hard to do. All Andi Grace must do is narrow down the suspect pool.

As Andi Grace and entourage investigate, they discover all kinds of dirty little secrets. On top of the investigation, Andi Grace also has a business to run and expand and that’s taking up a tremendous amount of her time. She’s burning the candle at both ends and that makes her deductive skills a bit sluggish which inevitably leads to Andi Grace being knee-deep in trouble.

The Bottom Line: The second installment of this series brought an ironing out of the rough patches from book one and I liked this story even more than the first. The greatest distinction for me is the addition of the plantation to Andi Grace’s world. The expansion of her life and businesses is going to make a great backdrop to later installments of the series. What’s more, with every crime she solves, Andi Grace becomes a little better at sleuthing. I see a ton of potential in this series and sincerely hope the next installments can meet my expectations.

Dog-Gone Dead is the second installment in the A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery series set in South Carolina and featuring dog walker/plantation owner Andi Grace Scott. Andi Grace is working to convert her recently inherited Kennady Planation into a Bed and Breakfast and Doggie Daycare alongside her best friend, Juliet Reed. An early morning trip to a neighboring plantation to pick up a load of mulch from her brother, Nate leads to the discovery of the body of Corey Lane. Nate is found badly beaten and unconscious nearby.

Police believe that bad blood between Corey and Nate led to a vicious fight between the two men and Nate murdered Corey in a fit of rage. Andi Grace knows that her brother is not a killer and sets out with the help of her friend and lawyer, Marc Williams to track down the real murderer.

Andi Grace quickly learns that Corey has a history of blackmailing members of the tight knit community, an out of control gambling addiction and has also been engaged in an extramarital affair. With a long list of suspects, Andi Grace and her canine partner, Sunny have their work cut out to clear her brother's name.

A well written plot that combines a murder/mystery with a touching family dynamic and burgeoning relationships. Pet lovers will delight at the interaction between Andi Grace and Sunny and Andi Grace's continued efforts to match people with their forever furry friends. A series that will bring a smile to your face.

I received an advanced copy of Dog-Gone Dead from Bell Books via NetGalley. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.

This cozy mystery series ticks all the boxes for me. Overcomer heroine, intriguing mystery that was difficult to figure out, awesome secondary characters (including the critters) and there’s even some romance. Oh — and I love the light touches of faith sprinkled throughout.

Like most cozy mysteries, this series would be best read in order. The first book covers some important backstory about Andi Grace and her family and gently introduces the romantic element. It’s also a great introduction to this small coastal town and Andi Grace’s dog walking business.

‘Dog-Gone Dead’ takes off where ‘Bite the Dust’ left off. It’s some months later and Andi Grace and her best friend are getting ready to launch their new business venture when a dead body shows up in the mulch (of course it does!) 🙂 And since Andi Grace’s brother becomes a suspect, she’s all in for solving the crime.

One of the wonderful things about this heroine is her fierce loyalty to her family and friends. It makes her a tenacious amateur sleuth who doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘quit.’ She’s relatively smart about her investigating though and works with the police…Well, that mostly means they get crazy frustrated by her sleuthing and read her the riot act while taking her ‘clues’ under consideration. I’ll admit, this mystery stumped me. I was waffling between three likely suspects and finally settled on the wrong one!

I listened to the audible edition of this book narrated by Meg Price and loved it! Hoping the rest of the series becomes available in audio format as well.

I love cozy mysteries and was happy to win this one in a Goodreads Giveaway. But I put it down at 34% in. The writing is generally fine, though a little bland. But the plotting just doesn't work for me. The final straw for me is when Andi Grace is questioning a possible witness/suspect, who suddenly confesses to affairs with two married men, gives Andi Grace keys to her house and rendezvous apartment, tells her how afraid she is, but refuses to tell her where the apartment is. She says, "I don't have time to keep talking. I need to hide...Maybe you can find a way to stop him from killing me." When Andi Grace presses her for the location of the apartment (which the woman just GAVE her keys to), the woman says, "It's safer for me if nobody knows, but if you figure it out be careful." What? And it would be one thing if Andi Grace decided the woman was having a breakdown or episode, since none of this makes sense. Instead, she tells her to be careful and that they're there to help her if she changes her mind.

I had been floating along, not totally gripped by the story, but thinking it was okay. But the total lack of logic got to be too much at this point, and I gave up. This book just isn't for me, I guess.

What a delightful refreshing and charming cozy mystery if you can use the words delightful and charming for a cozy.

Dog Gone Dead was just dog gone good! I didn't have the privilege of getting to read book 1 and really the only reason I knew that this one wasn't book one that's because I read the
info for the tour.
it was easy to pick up and get into the characters and the plot there was a little reference to the plantation that Angie Grace inherited in the previous book but it just made me want to go back and read book one so that I can get all the background info.
I loved the concept of turning the plantation into a bed-and-breakfast and Adventure Park for dogs for boarding and day
care.
The mystery Who Dun It kept guessing. Was it the wife?
The jilted lover? The lover of the lover? Or the boss?
The were a bunch of suspects that keeps the reader guessing along with Angie Grace who is determined to find the answers and prove her brother had nothing to do with the crime.

This one was a super clean read. The main characters speak about their faith. And I enjoyed that.

I look forward to many more in this series and purchasing book 1.

I received a complimentary copy.

Andi Grace is working hard with her friend Juliet to get their new businesses up and running. Andi inherited the property, and Juliet will run a B&B on it. Andi's brother Nate picked up some mulch for them and they were to meet him an a job site to get it.
Upon their arrival they found an injured Nate ...and a body. Andi being naturally nosy would have snooped anyway, but the fact her brother was arrested for the murder ramped up, really ramped up her snooping.
The ladies along with her brother, Andi's lawyer/best friend (boyfriend?) and the local police looked into every lead and checked into each suspect...and there were plenty. Andi was pretty sure she knew who-dun-nit, and had her suspicions confirmed when the killer came for her.
Suitable for all, no sex or gore, but plenty of clues, red herrings and humor, with a bit of sweet romance to round it out. I really enjoyed it and plan to get the one I missed.
I requested aand received a NetGalley to peruse and offer my opinion gratis.

As Andi-Grace and Juliette get closer to the grand opening of the B&B they're finishing up some final projects and head off to meet Nate for some mulch. But when they arrive at the job site, they're almost run down first by a VW bug and then an SUV. When they look for Nate, they find a body under a pile of mulch and a knocked out Nate. When the police decide nate is the prime suspect since his tools were used to kill the man, Andi-Grace's protective instincts rise to the surface as she works to clear Nate's name and sniff out the true murderer.

I gotta tell ya, Andi-Grace is a girl after my own heart...we both love our family, friend and dogs, and my Momma hyphenated my first name too. This was the first book I have read in the series and there were no gaps, it reads fine as a stand alone. Looking forward to spending more time in Low country with the first book and future installments as well.

Dog-Gone Dead is the second book in the series A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery by Jackie Layton.
I read the book thinking that I had it all figured out who committed the murder. But there were several who could have done the deed.
Andi-Grace and her friend Juliet were picking up mulch that her brother Nate got for her to use. While they did find the mulch, they also found a dead body but could not find Nate anywhere. Nate comes stumbling out of the woods and he had been beaten. The combination of the body and how Nate looks sure points the finger at Nate having killed the man.
This is exactly what the police think but Andi-Grace is determined to find out exactly what happen because she knows Nate could not have committed the crime.
This was a cozy mystery that kept me reading but did not draw me in to the story.
Thank you NetGalley, Jackie Layton and BelleBooks, Inc for the book. This is my personal review.

Dog-Gone Dead is a wonderful addition to the Low Country Dog Walker Christian cozy mystery series with likable characters and an interesting cozy mystery! In this 2nd book in the series, Andi Grace and her friend Juliette are finishing some projects for the grand opening of the B&B. They get some mulch from Andi Grace's brother Nate, who has a landscaping business. What they didn't expect, to find is a body buried in the mulch which makes Nate the prime suspect. Andi Grace needs to clear his name and find another suspect for the police to focus on. This is an enjoyable Christian cozy mystery which kept me guessing! This is the 2nd installment of the Low Country Dog Walker Mystery series. In this installment Andi Grace and her best friend Juliet are getting ready to open their B&B nd agree to meet her Andi Grace's brother Nate at his landscaping job to pick up some mulch. Instead the girls find the dead body of Corey her friend Erin's husband. Her brother Nate's tools did the deed and he was knocked out with a shovel nearby. This is a good solid mystery with good and kind-hearted characters. Andi Grace's commitment to her family and friends is amazing and she does investigating but it is not over the top. I really enjoyed this book as well as the first one in the series. The mystery is good and I was surprised by who did it. Looking forward to the next installment.

While getting mulch for the garden at their new B&B, Andi Grace and her friend Juliet discover the body of a friend's husband, buried in the mulch. Andi Grace's brother Nate becomes the number one suspect however, Andi Grace is determined to find the real killer...even if it means risking her life!

I liked this book and the character of Andi Grace. She's a mature and calm presence in the book. Her positive outlook and Christian faith keeps her motivated to find out who murdered Corey. Juliet, her best friend, has a crush on Nate and is her partner in sleuthing.

This was the first book, in the series, I've read and I'm going to read the first two.!

This is the second book in the "Low country Dog Walker Mystery Series. I have read the first in this charming series and highly recommend the series .. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity.
My review opinions are my own.

In this next in series we return to Andi Scott who has received a load of mulch from her Brother. When she finds a body under the mulch her Brother is suspect number one . In order to clear him she must investigate on her own and along the way finds more red herrings then answers.

I love the dog walker mysteries for of course the dog aspect but also for the well crafted enjoyable mystery and charcters. I look forward to the next in series.

Andi Grace is rather more than a dog walker but also does dog rescue placement and obedience training and is still feels responsible for her siblings that she raised after their parents died in an auto wreck (even though they are now adults). The brother who is a landscaper has been concussed but is the chief suspect for a murder as he was at the scene and without verifiable alibi. Let the sleuthing begin! This book comfortably stands alone.
The characters are wonderful, the world building is great, and the dogs are really special.
I really loved it and had to finish it in one day!

I enjoyed the book even if the mystery wasn’t that exciting more of a Peyton Place kind of story. I did enjoy the characters and the small town feel. I loved how Andi Grace and her friends try to solve the mystery of Colby’s death. Everyone knows Nate didn’t do it.

Set in North Carolina, Andi Grace and her friend Juliette are about to open a B & B. Colby is found dead at the Plantation where Nate, Andi Grace’s brother, has also been attached. Nate becomes the prime suspect.

DOG-GONE DEAD is the second book in this cozy mystery series. Andi Grace is a sweet southern woman who loves dogs and mysteries. A host of characters who all knew Andi Grace since way back when--friends and enemies alike.
There is a host of red herrings in the story--any one of which could have done it. That made it super hard to figure out who-dun-it.
The characters were super likable and I downloaded book one to find out that story.
There is a sweet beginning romance and a weak faith message.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

A fun mystery

This is a new author to me. I enjoyed the story and the characters. Personally, I thought it was a little longer than it needed to be. It bogged down in a few places and a shorter story would have taken care of that, I think, but overall I enjoyed it. Andi Grace discovers a dead body when she goes to meet her brother one morning and after her brother is arrested, she is determined to prove he could not have been the killer! A lot of great characters and fun situations plus lots of great dogs! There’s even a little romance on the side!

Dog-Gone Dead is a true cozy mystery. Murder✔️ Small town✔️ Hint of romance✔️ Amateur Sleuth finding the real murderer✔️✔️ Add in a bed and breakfast and dogs, and Dog-Gone Dead had all the elements of a delightful read. I found the characters in the story very likable and there are plenty of quirky side characters. I didn’t find Andi Grace too pushy as an investigator and the reveal of the murder was a surprise for me. If you like a cozy mystery I would recommend this book.

Thank you Netgalley for the arc. This is my honest review.

Heart thumping mystery

Andi Grace finds herself trying to solve yet another murder mystery when her brother is accused of murder. Twists and turns abound as Andi, Marc, Juliet and friends do all they can to clear Nate and find a killer.
I really enjoy this series and love the characters. The mystery is well played out. My only complaint is the ending when the killer is discovered, feels rushed like Layton couldn't quite figure out how to bring it to the climax and ending.
That being said I'm excited for the next book !

I recently read the 1st in this series, so gladly picked up this one. While being the 2nd in the series, I feel it could be read as a standalone. I actually think this one is better than the first. I am enjoying how the charade developing and it’s so nice to see new characters join the storyline. While reading I wish I could be at some of the locations mentioned. I recommend this to all cozy readers.

Fun story, very clean. Killer was a surprise to me at the end. I love when characters are flawed and have issues. Not everyone has a wonderful childhood, a lot of people struggle and it's refreshing to read about characters who have come through on the other side.
