All of my life I've been scared. I've tried to live by their rules. Always denying who I am to make them happy. Everything I did was wrong, but I tried. It is time for me. Time to be who I really am.

Follow Dani on her journey through psychosis. She's been abused her entire life and now she's taking it out on society, but when she meets Lyric everything begins to change. Can finding real love curb Dani's desire to kill?
Dani, your not so average serial killer, lives for the days she can make human art. One night while looking for a victim she notices Lyric. Not used to normal relationships she becomes fascinated with her. They fall into a relationship, but one with many secrets. Can Lyric help Dani overcome her abusive past? Will Dani be able to stop killing for love? Jordonna has written an excellent love story. I highly recommend it.
HOLY CRAP! A horrific lesbian psychological thriller... If you liked the TV Series Dexter, or perhaps the SAW movies - you may like this... It's confronting and dark - but at the same time compelling. On Kindle Unlimited.
NOT for the faint of heart... sometimes I do just like an incredibly dark twisted story, and this was one of those days... No idea what it says about me, maybe we don't want to go there. lol. It reminded me a bit of KC Luck's: The One: A Short Story
Huge Trigger warnings about
Dani had a disgustingly abusive and enclosed childhood by her strict uber religious nut parents, which has now manifested in her psychotic need to kill. While morally you know it's incredibly wrong for her to kill to feel something - at the same time you can't help but feel sympathy for her character and all she has been through, to ever be in that place to begin with.
When she meets the flirty Lyric at a bar, something more sparks within her, more than her desire for the kill. She actually finds she enjoys her time spent with Lyric, and Lyric enjoys being around her, too. She feels at peace for the first time in her life - but can that feeling continue... Especially when Lyrics best friend starts stalking them?
What happens if Lyric finds out about her true nature?
A read that will stick with anyone who gives it a go, for sure!
Fave quote: I guess we all have our vices and issues. No one is safe from crazy. And I'm sure we all have our reasons.
**Read at your own risk – this isn’t one for the squeamish** Yay for a steamy romance starring mentally-unstable (and significantly more sadistic) lesbian Dexter…buuuut I couldn’t overlook the writing.
Don’t read this book if any of the following bother you: Violence, graphic murder (and I do mean graphic), violence toward animals, sadomasochistic BDSM, physical and verbal child abuse…I probably missed something, but if one of those hasn’t turned you away yet, you’ll probably be fine.
Also, don’t read this book if you’re bothered by any of these: missed or misplaced commas, underused and inappropriately used contractions, stilted writing and dialogue, truncated/choppy sentences, weird perspective shifts (from first-person present to third-person present), and general errors. Overall, if you’re a stickler for proper writing/grammar, this will probably drive you nuts (it took me way too long to read this because I had to mentally rewrite most of it just for my sanity).
Okay, now for the plus points: -It’s very different from any other lesfic I’ve read. Very dark, very gruesome. -It was pretty steamy.
I think that’s actually it. I would have DNFed this one if not for the fact that it was a QLLC group read and because it was different enough that I was mildly curious to see how it ended. I didn’t care for either of the characters (largely because the dialogue and writing were so stilted that I felt a general disconnect from the book as a whole, and because Lyric’s two POV sections written in third-person present tense made her sound crazy – as if she referred to herself in the third person.)
It’s curious as well that a serial killer finding romance was somehow pretty angst-free…Where were the drama and tension? Where were the obstacles? The internal struggle didn’t feel like enough for me. And that ending? Well, that was disappointing.
Oh well, my verdict: it was sort of entertaining with the potential to be really good if the plot were beefed up (and the writing cleaned up).
(Edit: the more I think about it, the more I realize how little substance and conflict there was to the plot. Novelty can't quite justify the second star for me...dropping it to 1⭐)
WOW!! What an opening chapter!! After reading that, I just knew I was going to love this book.....and I was right!!!! A dark, brutal, bloody, sexy, wicked love story. Well written, I just kept wanting more and more. I loved the main character and her growing relationship with Lyric. And I loved the little twist at the end. Looking forward to more from Angelique 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
This book started great. Getting to know Dani and her artistic ways was very fun. The first few chapters hooked me into the story. Then Dani meets Lyric. It turned into a love story. Which isn't a bad thing, but I felt like the author shifted gears from violence to romance, and I really wanted more violence dabbled in. Still, it's a decent read with a great ending.
This is an awesome book. It ticked all the boxes for me in that it was well written, brutal, and in your face. I'm going to take this on holiday with me and reread it again when I'm less distracted as I don't feel I gave it enough justice. I'd like to go away to hide and soak up all the twisted juiciness. I'm looking forward to Jordonna's next book and she joins the list of female horror authors that kick arse hard with their stilettos.
PS the title rocks! I quite like the name Dani. It's a killer LOL.
I couldn't put this book down. It starts off running and doesn't stop until the last word. The main character Dani is someone I'd like to hang out with even though she's a serial killer. If you don't fall in love with her then there's something wrong with you.
"Sshhhh, don't cry, lovely. You will find that, even though you can see what's going on, you can't move. Don't worry, you won't be able to scream, either….”
Raised by overly-strict religious parents, Dani could do little right in her parents’ eyes. She incurred their wrath through horrendous forms of punishment for doing “the Devil’s work.” Unsurprisingly, she grows up to become a highly atypical young woman. She satisfies her murderous urges by meeting random strangers who inspire her unusual passion for art. No one is safe when Dani goes on the prowl.
But one night, Dani meets Lyric, an enchanting young woman. Dani feels compelled to know this “perfect specimen” better. Lyric seems to bring out the best in Dani, but can she quell her bloodlust? Or is it just a matter of time before she becomes Dani’s latest victim?
I was immediately drawn into this story from the very first line: “I want to crawl inside her flesh.” The rich, descriptive writing enabled me to visualize Dani as she worked on her projects, whether creating a human coffin or using a menacing contraption. Jordonna did an excellent job adding depth to her characters, especially Dani, whose backstory is most captivating. I know some readers characterize this as a love story, but while there may be some elements of romance, make no mistake about it, this book is a bona fide good and gory tale of horror. I would love a sequel or companion story.
What a clever little book. It somehow manages to be part gruesome horror, part ghost story, part graphic erotica and part beautiful love story - and it does all of these things well.
Dark and gory but not horribly over the top for the sake of shock value, same can be said about the erotic aspect, it’s not vulgar nor crude. Nothing is without reason and it all balances well. I liked the characters too.
This is however only a short book so not as in depth as I would have liked, but still packs a punch despite this, and I even liked the ending which is rare for me.
This book was marred slightly by the typos within, I wish more time was taken to proof read. However, it is a really compelling read. Loved it.
“I guess we all have our vices and issues. No one is safe from crazy. And I’m sure we all have our reasons. “
Dani is a serial killer. When she meets Lyric, she feels things she has never experienced before.
I devoured this book in two sittings. I love reading from the perspective of a serial killer so this was right up my dark alley. Well written with relatable characters, this was an engaging, horrific story with lashings of sex and gore. The perfect blend of horror and romance. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Wow! This book was not what I expected and not for the faint of heart, but sooooo riveting. I consumed the book in one setting. This will not be a book I easily forget and in a sea of lesbian romances, this was a refreshing change.
“Dani” by Angelique Jordonna: Will love conquer the urges?
Dani is a lesbian with urges, not the typical kind. Years of abuse as a child molded Dani into the woman she is, a serial killer. Now that her parents are gone, she can only sleep under her victims’ fresh human skin blanket. Lyric meets Dani at a nightclub. They hit it off. Lyric doesn’t know that Dani may have other aspirations for their budding relationship, like Lyric becoming Dani’s next victim.
What I liked:
Lyric is a therapist and feels empathy for Dani’s quirkiness. I couldn’t determine if that meant Lyric would figure out that Dani was a serial killer and run for the hills or be an unsuspecting victim.
Lyric’s roommate, Emma, is jealous of Dani and tries to cause trouble. Dani becomes more of a sympathetic character even as a serial killer, which I found amusing.
Suspense: Does Lyric live happily after with Dani, the serial killer, or become a victim?
What some folks may not like:
Blood and Gore: As this is a book about a serial killer, some folks may be a bit squeamish.
I found the story unique from the standard lesfiction fare and a palette cleanser from all the romances I have read of late. The book has a few twists and turns, which I will not divulge. The question in the end when it comes to dating a serial killer is, what does their HEA look like if there is one? I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading crime horror fiction.
It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t come together for me. There were some elements that only seem to loosely be tied to the plot, so it felt like it was missing something. Maybe if it were longer to give the author a chance to tie everything together?
I liked the characters and the story, but the ending disappointed me - it was probably my least favorite option the author could've gone for. In this case, I would've enjoyed a bit of a detour from the typical romance tropes. I did, however, enjoy most of everything else. The originality of the theme in lesfic, how the author somehow managed to make the main character relatable. And how she managed to keep me right on the border of being too disturbed to continue but also too invested in characters to not finish the book.
The book does skip on a lot of important details that can break immersion. Like ignoring the existence of surveillance cameras which are everywhere these days. A bunch of other stuff like that is either not explained at all, or has a bit too convenient of an explanation. But this is a romance first, so stuff like that can be forgiven.
This can be a worthwhile read for the more adventurous lesfic readers. But if you're affected by rather graphic torture and off-screen violence against animals, then be warned.
OMG! A few of my favorite reviewers read this book and loved it. They suggested it as a change of pace from our usual romance novels. Recently I have been getting a bit bored with the formula romances......slow burn romance, hot love scenes and then the usual angst at the 80% point and then the happily ever after ending. So I decided to give it a go. Wow, once I started it I couldnt put it down. It's a wild and crazy ride. It's a bit gory, a warm romance and a mystery all in one. I had no idea how it was going to end. It was entertaining to say the least. And totally different from my usual genre. If you want a brief change of pace, I recommend this story. 4 star
Dani by Angelique Jordanna pulls you in with that cover but doesn’t give up much else besides a girl, who we assume is Dani and her apparent proclivities that involve cutlery. Well butter my buns & call me a biscuit, that’s exact what this was about! Angelique tells a story of sorrow and trauma from the POV of a spiraling main character who is trying to live her truth and do so happily. Even if she has to crush a few eggs along the way.
Quick synopsis: Dani is an aspiring artist rejoining the dating game. With a troubled past and her own demons to fight, she pushes past it all to look for her own final girl. Can she continue her art and find a soumate just colorblind enough to not recognize all the red flags? 🚩
Our main character has gone THROUGH it. Her upbringing has created, for all intents and purposes, a killing machine. One that we kinda like and feel for? The reader wants her to be happy and to be able to delete the U-Haul app from her phone once and for all. It’s not easy to concoct a lovable serial killer, or at least one that you feel and want the best for. So major kudos to Angelique’s writing skills and her ability to tell a story that sucks us in the way this one did. She gives us a spicy, bloody, dark tale that we NEED more of. Highly recommend this one.
This book is a perfect unsettling read for the Halloween season, but it is not for the faint of heart and packs quite the punch. The story follows, Dani, a victim of childhood abuses. What author Angelique Jordanna has manifested that trauma into in her adult character Dani is truly horrifying, reminiscent of Dexter and will send chills down her readers’ spines. Throw in a love interest, Lyric, and a jealous friend, and this book moves at a swift pace. For fans of the horror and psychological thriller genres, I would highly recommend this novel.
I loved this book, it is fantastically sexy and dark.
This was a extremely well written, I liked the characters and the story, it's like a lesbian version of the show Dexter (I have not read the books as yet), and despite the fact that the main character is a serial killer, she is likeable, the sex scenes were more graphic that I expected, so maybe not suitable for younger readers. I loved this book!
Dani is an incredibly broken person. Lyric, a sweet, delightful, innocent person shows up and accepts her for who she is - without having any idea what a psychopath she really is.
Gory, graphic, really hard to take - and with an ending that completely gobsmacked me.
I never thought I’d be rooting for a serial killer.
I read many psychological thrillers, but these are usually narrated from a detached third person narrator, a detective’s or a victim’s point of view. What intrigued me from the start it is that Dani, the main character, is also the main narrator of the whole story. This is then a unique chance to get a deep insight into the mind of a psychopath and to understand why they act the way they do. Not for the faint-hearted for sure, as there are some gruesome scenes and some gore violence, that will remind you of Silence of the Lambs or SAW.
Jordonna’s skilled writing manages to show the other side of a killer, uncovering Dani’s horrible past filled with abuse from her stepfather and her mother making the reader feel sorry for her, even sympathize with her! And on the other hand, as a reader you start hating with all your guts those narrow-minded, fanatically religious parents she had. Who would treat their child like that, because they are gay? Who’s the real monster here?
When you think of a serial killer, you might think of someone without any emotions at all, and at first it also seems that Dani can’t prove any emotion whatsoever, the numbness overwhelms her, but she does feel this uncontrollable “need” to kill, to possess, to create a piece of art: perfection.
What I found interesting, it’s that Dani almost never kills immediately, but always drugs the victims before, so that she can take control of them more easily, as of being scared of what could happen if she wouldn’t do so, not being able also to bare their struggle (does this make her more human?). On the other side, although, there’s the skinning of the victim in order to cover herself with soft skin, feeling the “warmth” of a body, like a sort of warm blanket to keep away the loneliness and all the nightmares she deals with, and at the same time a sort of “mask”, that would be able to cover her scars, those that remind her of her parents. I can say that if this would become a movie, a line such as “I can’t wait to wear you” could become a classic for sure. As if this was not enough, Dani is also a skilled artist, a genius in building torture machines, a bit like Gigsaw. As a serial killer she is quite polyhedric, compared to the most notorious ones, who usually have a sort of signature, a consistent “modus operandi”, but maybe because she’s still young and experimenting? Maybe there will be a sequel to Dani?
In any case, the main question you will ask yourself while reading this book is still: can a serial killer really fall in love? When Dani meets Lyric, will she be able to put a stop to her needs and change or will she just continue with her quest for a perfect victim? How is that possible that Dani can be so ridiculously cute and shy when it comes to dating a woman for the first time? How will she react to experience a new type of pleasure and letting another take charge in her life?
Finally, do you know what is the scariest thing of this book? Its realism! Because if you turn on the TV, Netflix or other streaming services, stories like these are everywhere nowadays: domestic violence, children abuse, serial killers etc. And after reading about Dani’s past, can you really blame her for what she has become? Is she still worthy of love?
I adore this book. Subtle yet extreme. There is so much emotion and struggle behind what is said and not said. And demons. Everyone has them and we try so hard to live with them while hiding them from the world. This book is about that and more: love, shame, relief, penance and those things we do, but can't explain. While Ms. Jordonna gives us a vile tale of shock, dismemberment, and gore she also allows to explore how we deal with those urges we keep below the surface. This was a great read. Highly recommend.
Definitively unusual read. As disturbing it is, its also fascinating. The MC has a lot of issues, but I love the way she works around them especially when she meets her love interest. Of course her journey is just starting. Great book especially if you are in dark mood and need something different.
This book is not easy to read or digest, so if graphic descriptions of violence and abuse scare you or you're afraid of feeling guilty about loving characters who are supposed to be bad people, don't read this book. . . .
This was a light horror, with sweet romance and many triggering subjects. Abuse, homophobia, graphic acts of violence. I was already way too aware of the dangers in this world, and my trust issues are getting their validation from this book, because it feels like it could happen to anyone. It's not farfetched, it's not an impossible fantasy. It's real and scary and sad.
The writing and the story were really good. I understood Dani's feelings and actions, I felt sorry for her but also appreciated how strong she is. We are usually not supposed to like the bad guys but in this book it seems everyone is a bad guy and you can choose your kind of crazy. Weirdly wonderful.
This book left me with the feeling that with the right - or should I say wrong - circumstances anyone could become Dani, in one way or another, and it scared me how much I enjoyed her story and loved parts of her. Same with Lyric. They were both sweet and loving and crazy in different ways, amazingly complicated. Their interaction and relationship throughout the book was fascinating. The ending was perfect, and I can't say I haven't seen this coming but it took me a while to get there.
Angelique Jordana paints a compelling picture. Dani is a well-rounded story of trauma, love, and feeding the hunger that only serial killing can satiate. Right from the beginning, I was invested in Dani; who she was and why she did what she did. The memories of her traumatic past were haunting and real and not easy to shake. Once she meets Lark, I was both happy for Dani and apprehensive of what would happen next. I can see why this book has so much love. I think it’s great queer horror and a fantastic story. If you haven’t read it, you should.
**Trigger warning, physical abuse in story** That being said, I surprisingly enjoyed this book! It is dark and gory in parts (maybe a little scary), but it’s a nice break from my usual more “fluffy” reads. Writing about this level of trauma couldn’t be easy and I think the author does a great job, the MCs both seem real to me. And the end..... Read it for yourself!
I look forward to reading more of the authors work!
A deep, psychological thriller, that kept me enthralled from page 1. The scenes were so visceral and real. Perfect blend of murder and romance. What’s the old saying? Love is blind? Maybe it truly is. There are intense scenes of abuse, so please use caution if that is a trigger for you. I hope there’s a part 2!
