Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!

Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska—and now Ohio.

As for her writing, Anna has always invented stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she’s never looked back since.

I FALL FOR A HOT SCOT IN A KILT EVERY TIME!!!

DANGEROUS IN A KILT by Anna Durand delivered! This is my favorite style of romance writing. A hot, but wounded hero, a heroine who is strong on her own, but also needs the hero and sex that will scorch the sheets without any kinks or fetishes.

Erica Teague was an accountant for a prestigious firm who always played it safe until the day she was arrested for embezzling from her firm’s elderly clients’ accounts. She has been set up by her ex-lover and boss, who also happens to be the son of one of the owners. She refuses to make any deals, so before she ends up in prison she sets up an internet date for one wild night of sex and fun.

Lachlan MacTaggart is taking an American vacation in the home of his friend who lives right next door to Erica. He shows up at the local hookup club and walks up to Erica, who believes he is her blind date and can’t believe her luck. A hot Highlander in a kilt. He won’t take advantage of a misunderstanding, but he does propose a one month fling with no attachments to this beautiful American.

Erica wants to experience everything Lachlan can give her before she is imprisoned without explanations and Lachlan wants no attachments and no questions. For two wounded people who discover they care more than they should, emotions just can’t be ignored.

This is a well written, classic but contemporary romance story. My emotions were up and down right along with Erica’s and Lachlan’s. I knew there would be a HEA, but it was the journey, characters and smoking hot sex scenes that kept me turning the pages. The characters were all realistic and I loved Erica’s dog, Casey. Lachlan has two brothers and three sisters, so I hope to be enjoying this family in many more stories to come.

Overall Opinion: This was an enjoyable read. Especially because it was free! Unfortunately I didn't love it enough to put it on my favorites shelf, but it was still enjoyable. I have my own classification on what I consider "erotic romance" and "erotica" and it all depends on the balance between the sex and the romance. I feel like I would classify this as an erotica book because it felt more on the sex side than the romance side. I realize that my classifications are my own, but that's just where I mentally categorized it. Is that a bad thing? No! I'm just a bigger fan of erotic romances that have more romance than sex. Now all that being said, I enjoyed the romantic relationship that they did have. I also felt like the H was very romantic with the h! It was just that I felt like there could've been more with the depth of the characters and the depth of their connection in ways that wasn't done sexually. The h also bugged me a little with her (what felt like) inconsistency with the H. She definitely reacted to her attraction to the H in a way that made her confusing.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Erica and Lachlain's story. They meet in a bar when Erica is wanting to act impulsive and have a fling before she goes to prison after being framed by her ex. Lachlain ends up being a Scottish friend of her neighbors that swapped houses with them for a month. Lachlain is drawn to Erica and suggests that she is his American fling for the month that he is there, and Erica surprises herself by agreeing. They have a hot affair that's also romantic and crosses the line to where feeling begin to develop. There is some ex drama, some secrets revealed, some hot sexy times...and they get a HEA ending.

Point Of View (POV): This was told in Erica's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Alright. I did skim in some parts because the sex scenes seemed to be taking away from the story to me and I wanted to get to the romance parts!

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings. This does move rather quickly though (about a month before they fell in love).

H (Hero) rating: 4 stars. Lachlain. I liked him. I thought he was damaged from his previous relationship but that he was sweet and caring regardless of his hesitancy.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Erica. I thought she was alright. I thought she did act a little all over the place in her approach/opinion of the H. I found it a little irritating at times.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes. It seemed to cross that line into what I consider erotica at times because it seemed more sex scene heavy instead of romance.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes, but not in the typical way

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not IMO

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had good closure with what I would call a HEA .

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Erica is a woman feeling she's living on borrowed time after her ex screwed her over and showed he was a lying snake in the grass. She meets Lachlan at a naughty night club when she mistakes him for her very late date. They have instant chemistry. She very surprised to discover he wasn't her late date and he's living next door to her. He's determined they will have a no strings attached fling before he heads back to Scotland in a month. She's not normally a casual girl. And she's not usually satisfied with her partners. They both rapidly realize there may be more to things than expected. Sweet, hot, funny, full of drama and passion, this story is gantastic. I can't wait to read the other books in the series. Their trip to HEA is so satisfying. I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Eh. Too much hot/cold, between hero and heroine. They are both clearly holding secrets, but neither will tell the other. I’m 54% through. May not listen to the whole thing. Why is she so passive about the charges against her? Shouldn’t she be fighting harder, or heck, at all?! And to top it all off, there is a surprise pregnancy at the end. My least favourite trope.

Holy Hot Scot!

What an excellent read this was! I have to confess that I went into this one with a little bit of trepidation, because I read one of the author's other books and didn't like it, but I was really enjoyably surprised by this one.

I liked the heroine, Erica, from whose first-person perspective the story is told, right from the beginning. Her Awful Ex had left her in an appalling predicament and I must admit that if I was in her situation, I'd probably have been going out looking for hot, no-strings affairs too. It was very easy to put myself in her shoes and sympathize with her; she always behaved in a very understandable, human manner.

Did I say that I liked Erica? Well, I LOVED Lachlan. Hoo boy *still fanning myself* he was absolutely SCORCHING hot. Who wouldn't want a man like that, Scottish protective instincts and all? If I was Erica I might have come clean about the troubles I was facing a little earlier, but then Lachlan was keeping secrets of his own, so I completely understand why she didn't.

The romance progressed at a very reasonable pace over the space of a month - I don't really like books that have the characters declaring undying love after a couple of days - and it all felt very real and believable. The sex scenes were EXTREMELY hot. All in all, a book for the keeper shelf!

5 stars!

Pure trash with crappy character development, and I'm 100% gonna read the next one. Sometime you just need brainless reads to offset the heavier stuff, and this is exactly that.

Dangerous in a Kilt by Anna Durand
Hot Scots #1

Erica Teague has always played it safe. She trusted the wrong man and as a result expects to go to jail in about thirty days. With that in mind she sets up a blind date with the intention of seeing if she might have the ability to be a wee bit wild before her freedom disappears. Well, the guy that shows up is HOT and all she has dreamed of BUT her ability to be a siren takes a hike and she runs for the hills. The next morning who should be on her doorstep but…the man from the night before? Exactly! With her freedom in jeopardy and his vacation time limited they agree to a no strings attached limited time affair that should work for both of them without emotional involvement. Makes sense, right? With Erica’s ex-boyfriend, the guy who set her up, making appearances from time to time and Lachlan’s phone calls hinting at secrets he is not sharing there are some definite ups and downs during their time together. As with most books of this genre…there are plenty of steamy encounters that ultimately lead to a HEA for the main characters.

Thank you to NetGalley and Backlit PR for the ARC – this is my honest review.

Interesting story with a few drawbacks. The story contains a friends with benefits sort of relationship but it's not done properly in the text. Though the the characters were supposed to be FWB, they immediately hopped into a relationship. There was no buildup in that regard. In terms of the sex relationship between the characters, it was there but also poorly done. The first nine +chapters were endless teasing with no scene transition and when they finally had sex, there were three sex scenes back to back. Needless to say, not managed well.

Still, I think the backstory was really interesting and the author did a great job of bringing her characters to life. They definitely weren't flat or two dimensional.

It was enjoyable enough but I can't rate it any higher than 'ok'. Erica was a disappointing heroine. She was so passive about her legal troubles and wasn't making any attempt to fight or resolve the issue. That story line was rather weak and it wrapped up in one paragraph which didn't really make sense.

The romantic relationship was nothing new. Two people who say it's only a fling and then they catch feelings. Erica and Lachlan withheld personal information from each other for a frustrating amount of time but they were quite decent together despite that. The cute dog is also worth a mention.

The book could have done with another edit as I noticed some typos.

TAKE A RISK, HAVE AN ADVENTURE, BE WILD

I enjoyed this story that has two people, each fighting their own demons, keeping secrets, and in the midst of their crisis agree to a one-month-no-personal-questions-no-commitment relationship. The story has many ups and downs, is full of passion, romance, and hot sex, even if it is only for a month. There is a great chemistry between Lachlan and Erica, and even her dog Casey loves Lachlan.

Erica Teague is a good girl, conservative, keeps a low profile, works a respectable job as an accountant at a prestigious firm but found herself without a job and framed for embezzling a quarter of a million dollars from senior clients. The man framing her, Presley Cichon, her employer, and lover. Now she is facing a trial and a prison sentence of up to fifteen years. The one thing she refuses to do is take a plea deal, where she will admit guilt for a crime she did not do.

Lachlan MacTaggart has come to the Chicago for a month and has done a home swap with his friend, Gil, who is neighbors to the Teagues. He is in the midst of a nasty divorce from a money hungry wife who never carried about him, only what she could have. His level of trust, especially of women, is low.

The plot will have Erica being spontaneous, going to a club to meet an online date, Cliff and believing she has been stood up until Lachlan shows up in his kilt and calling her by name. After a few drinks, she will leave and head home. When Lachlan shows up to her house the next morning, he explains about the house swap with Gil for a month, and that Gil told him about her. There is an instant attraction, but neither can get into a relationship for different reasons, and Lachlan ask Erica, “Be my American Fling. We could have an incredible month. I’m not asking for one night. What I want from you is four weeks of sex and companionship.” The only real rule Lachlan insist upon is no personal questions, this is to be a month of fun and pleasure with seduction and romance.

The story is full of secrets, intrigue, problems with Presley interfering, overseas phone calls, a difference in social status, and emotions that can’t help get involved. What will happen when the month is up? Will Lachlan go back to Scotland and Erica just move on with her life? What will Lachlan do when he learns what has happened to Erica because of Presley? “I lucked out when I picked you for my holiday fling.” “Arrogant Scot.” “Cheeky American.” Can this two find their happily ever after ending?

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Erica's life is not going well right now. Her ex-boyfriend used her to embezzle money and she has been charged with the crime and of course fired from her job. She expects jail time. She hasn't even told her parents because of her shame. Luckily, they live in Florida and she is in their home in town.

She decides she is going to go out, party a little before she goes to jail. She is supposed to meet a guy from a dating site at a trendy club in town. The date is late and when she is approached by a man she thinks it is the date but it is Lachlan...

Lachlan is good friends with Erica's neighbor Gil and wife and they decided to swap houses, take a vacation, so Gil and wife are in Scotland having a honeymoon and Lachlan is here. Gil had told him all about Erica an how she was such a good person.

The next morning he knocks on Erica's door. Still thinking he was the date she asks him if he was stalking her. They talk and clear up the confusion. They are both very attracted to one another and Lachlan makes a proposal...that they basically have an "affair" for the month he is in the US. To basically have fun and enjoy each other, no strings attached, nothing personal.

Lachlan wants no part of a serious relationship and Erica figures she is going to jail....so why not!
They have a pretty steamy physical relationship and get along very well. Sometimes something borders on "personal" so they have to remind each other not to go there.

Will Erica go to jail? Will she and Lachlan end up with broken hearts?

I have to say, I LOVED THIS BOOK! The writing is done very well and I can feel all the emotions as I read through...Erica's despair, Lachlan's need not to commit and then trying not to make it personal.

Lachlan is quite the hottie and he knows how to treat a girl! He is also very respectful and honestly likes Erica.

When Erica's real life starts to intrude she tells Lachlan about the charges and her ex and I just love Lachlan all the more! He does whatever he can to help Erica with no expectations. It even gets to the point where he involves her parents because he knows he will be leaving after the month and she needs support. Luckily, her parents are wonderful.

But will they survive the parting??? Awesome story, a must read!

This is the first book in the Hot Scots series, and this is a contemporary romance. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was thoroughly entertained. I was on vacation while reading this series and I whiled away the afternoon on my parents back porch in Florida giggling my way through the series.

I’m not a fan of mistaken identities and miscommunication, it makes me nervous and tense watching that, but in this case with this book, the mistaken identities and miscommunication is hilarious and so stinkin’ cute, I found myself totally captivated by the main characters right from the start.

In this book the reader meets Erica and Lachlan and discover how they fall in love and get their happily ever after.

Lachlan is the eldest brother from the family of siblings that the series revolves around. What I like about Lachlan is his confidence in everything that he does. He’s sweet and sensitive but of course because he’s a guy, he tends to make boneheaded decisions because he doesn’t want to get hurt again and winds up doing a great deal of damage to his relationship. I suppose I can forgive him because he can rock a kilt like nobody’s business.

Erica is a young woman with a lot on her plate when she meets Lachlan, but she makes the most of her friendship with him. She’s afraid to trust anyone because of what’s been done to her, but she’s so likable I can forgive her. She’s funny and has a great sense of humor and I love her parents when they show up. I also love Erica’s dog and the relationship between human and animal. It’s important to portray that relationship as that interaction adds a touch of reality and humor to the story. I liked that the author put an animal in the plot.

I was glad that the reader got to “meet” some of Lachlan’s’ family so that the reader can get to know them better as some of them will be getting their own story. They are also funny as hell, and added some more entertainment to the whole plot.

If sweet funny romance is something the reader would enjoy, then start out with the first book in this series and find out if this might be something that would interest the reader. It’s a great read.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

From the moment Erica and Lachlan meet, you know this couple is going to be entertaining to read. Neither set out to have more than a casual fling but you don’t need to be psychic to see this casual set-up turning serious rather quickly. Anna kept tossing the “rules” at us so it was only a matter of time before following them became a hinderance to what was building between them.

Really, how could Erica not fall for the Scottish sex god. He was sweet, charming, romantic, thoughtful, had a voice that could make you weak in the knees and HE WORE A BLOODY KILT. Hello, I’m surprised she lasted as long as she did before hopping on his mighty sword. (Joke within the book)

With all the romantic gestures and surprises he planned for her, his most thoughtful gift was helping clear her name from the embezzlement charges. Money may not buy love but, in this case, it helped set his love free.

Now with all the positives I had regarding Dangerous in a Kilt, there was one black spot that I couldn’t shake. It’s what made me drop my rating score a smidgen. On page 106, Erica seemed to to think being a nerd is a bad thing. Lachlan says, “Never call yourself a nerd again. Never.” Then on page 167, Lachlan (Anna Durand) spoke as if being nerdy was a negative trait to possess. He said to Erica, “I told you never to call yourself that again. You are a stunning, sensual woman.” Did I miss something here? Is he, Lachlan, (and the author, Anna Durand) insinuating a woman can’t be nerdy and sensual at the same time? If so, I whole-heartedly disagree. I happen to be a nerdy chick and very pleased with my sex life.

What Lachlan should’ve said was something like this…..

Embrace your nerdiness, woman, as much as you embrace your naughtiness. Now, show me how naughty my nerdy woman can get.

DANGEROUS IN A KILT is the first book in the Hot Scots series. Though each will stand on its own, it is best to read them in the order of release.

I can sum up this book in one word – SIGH! It pushed all of my buttons. First there is Lachlan, a brooding sexy man, with a yummy accent. .. and a kilt… and plenty of bankroll without the matching ego. Then there is Erica. Poor little lost kitten had the mother in me wanting to protect her and elated to see Lachlan doing the job in so many ways even when he didn’t know what all he was protecting her from. There is the hiss-able villain, Presley. I won’t say too much about him, but he is a perfect antagonist. Finally, I can’t forget to mention the sweet pooch, Casey, Erica’s golden retriever. Casey is a comfort and an early warning system for good and bad. So, we have great characters. The storyline was fun, part light and humorous and part serious and suspenseful, and a big dose of lustfulness. Oh, and I forgot to mention romantic. For a big, brawny, caber-throwing Scotsman, Lachlan knows how to also touch a woman’s heart.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to escape to a place of romance with a touch of suspense and laughs.

Anna Durand is a new-to-me author and, based on this book, I love her writing. I’m very happy that I already have (and have started reading) book two, WICKED IN A KILT. Talk to you soon about Lachlan’s brother, Aiden. He is a bad boy, but is he a stripper?

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

This is my first time reading/listening to Anna Durand. This was also my first time listening to Rinelle Harkin.

I can’t pinpoint why and I have no clear objection to her narration - I just didn’t click with Harkin’s performance for some reason. So I opted to finish the book by reading it. I’m definitely willing to try out another work of hers and see if it’s just a one-off for some reason.

This is a good book when in the mood for a lot of steamy sex scenes making up a bulk of the story. While not particularly risqué/graphic, the proportion made this feel more like erotica than romance. Not a complaint, just an FYI.

Erica & Lachlan enter into a “no personal details” month-long fling while he’s visiting the US & she’s awaiting trial for a crime she didn’t commit. Since the story is all from Erica’s POV and they’ve agreed to a “keep it light and don’t share too much” arrangement - I didn’t really get to know Lachlan as well as I would have liked to. He definitely knows how arrange some lovely dates and brings the protective nature against Erica’s ex. May/December is one of my favorite tropes - while Lachlan is 42 & Erica is 28, other than the convo revealing that info the age difference doesn’t really factor in.

Overall, it was a fun read and I’ll definitely be reading/listening to the rest of the series.

I own the ebook. However, for full disclosure, I won a copy of the Hot Scots/MacTaggart Brothers trilogy in audiobook from a contest on Durand’s Twitter.

Update: I went to listen to book 2 and found there’s a bonus scene of Chapter 1 from Lachlan’s POV narrated by Ged Bowie.

I read Lethal in a Kilt, Book 7 in this series as a standalone and loved the delightful MacTaggert family so much I wanted to start from the beginning. With Lachlan and Erica’s four-week pact of hot sex with no ties, how could I resist?

Erica doesn’t have long before her life as she sees it is over, so why not have a month-long fling with the sexy Scot next door who will return to Scotland? No personal questions are allowed so he won’t find out about her secret. She has nothing to lose, right? Tell that to her heart. At least she has her dog, Casey. He’s the one male, besides her dad, who she can count on.

Lachlan and Erica don’t have a lot in common other than they have been betrayed by people they cared about. Erica’s determination to stay positive and have a good time despite her ill-fated future is commendable but bleak. She’s not the type to have a casual relationship, but her life is what it is. Lachlan’s unwavering plans to woo Erica by surprising her with simple and extremely romantic gestures confuse Erica to the extent where she bears her feelings. But he’s sticking to the deal and will return to Scotland. Who is she to want a future with Lachlan? She won’t be free to enjoy her life.

Overall, I am elated to recommend this lovely story with a unique plot, a strong heroine, and a seductive Scot with a lust for romance. If you enjoy big sexy Scots, pick up this series, it won’t disappoint.

Dangerous in a Kilt is an interesting read. This book is the first book in Hot Scots series and also my first Anna Durand book read. :) Anyway, the story and the characters are good. I love Erica's personality. Despite what she's going through, I love how she's staying strong. Lachlan on the other hand tho, I sometimes want to kick his shin because .... well, I won't tell but you'll definitely understand once you read this book.. Anyway, I also find Lachlan's character mysterious and I love his romantic side :). The story, it's good and I was intrigued on how the story would end - with all the drama the characters that are facing. Overall, the book is good and I love how Ms. Anna made the story interesting and romantic at the same time. I liked it! Oh, before I end my review... LOL.. I also love the other characters in this book especially Erica's parents! LOL

Delightful

Two people out of sorts with the reality of their own lives come together. The connection which forms between Lachlan and Erica deepens with the love they have for each other. In spite of all the obstacles in their way, they manage to get together in the end. Well written tale.

I haven't read a romance in a very long time, but I needed something to listen to while working out. I served its purpose, but I'm not a fan of wishy-washy women when it comes to sex. You're banging a hot Scot in a kilt, woman! Stop thinking so much about it!

I thought this was a good read filled with great details that holds your attention giving you one hot story filled with passion and more. A Scottish accent is so very sexy as I am sure Lachlan is. I would love to listen to this on audio and think it would make a great listen with his wonderful sexy voice. He is strong but wounded, passionate but not to over cocky. Erica is strong and won’t back down when she knows she is right. I love how well they blend together in this friend with benefits that burn up the sheets.

Erica is being setup by her ex for embezzling from her firm, she didn’t do it, and she won’t take a deal. Which leads her to making an online date for one last night of passion with a hot hunk before she goes to jail. Lachlan walks in a club where Erica is to meet with her hook up blind date. She takes him as her date once the confusion is cleared up she agrees to a deal of one month of passion with no attachments. Each has their reason and are only willing to give a month of their tiem. Erica can’t believe her luck with a hot Highlander in a kilt walks up to her and makes the deal, wow all that in one man lucky, lucky her. What could be better she has her last fling before going to the pen, he has his with no attachments, this is a win, win for both of them. What they find is it isn’t as easy as they thought it would be. Now what a pickle they are in when emotions get in the way, and they learn a month just isn’t enough time.

I thought this was well written with an exciting plot. I thought the characters are likable, both are wounded souls searching for something they never thought they would. The scenes are hot and emotional not only for the characters but for me as well. The author does pull you in and keeps you invested. I enjoyed the twists and turns and can’t wait to meet the rest of Lachlan family.

The accountant and the Scot

3.75 stars

“Dangerous in a Kilt” by Anna Durand is a contemporary romance that is Book One in the ‘Hot Scots’ series. This story follows accountant Erica Teague, who is facing one of the worst challenges of her life, and decides to have one last fling before she meets her fate. As luck would have it, she meets Lachlan MacTaggart, a wickedly attractive Scotsman who is quite willing to have a vacation fling but refuses to commit to anything else. That fits right into Erica’s timeline, but not so well into her heartfelt desires.

This fun and flirty story has great elements…a yummy guy with a seductive accent and a penchant for rescuing damsels in distress, a personable canine who is loyal to his mistress (usually, lol), and a woman caught in terrible circumstances who nonetheless has a sense of humor and a desire to shed her dull accountant’s persona. I liked the chemistry between the main characters and adored the dog, but there were several things that I wasn’t so enamored of, including Lachlan’s attitude toward Erica as they develop a relationship, and the odd hiccups in continuity since I kept finding myself wondering what had happened to the dog who seemed to be there one moment and then gone during the passionate encounters between the main couple. Despite this, I thought this was an entertaining story and recommend it to anyone looking for a light romance with a sexy guy in a kilt.

This is the first book I have read by Anna Durand and it was great. Lachlan is hot and even sexier in his kilt, Erica is out on bail, charged with a crime she didn’t commit. With an offer, she can’t refuse and secret he is trying to hide can they spend a month together without getting personal. Pick up Dangerous in a Kilt to find out!

Erica Teague thought of herself as a boring accountant, something she had pursue for security, not passion. Because of her insecurities, she allowed herself to be swept off her feet by Presley Cichon, the son of the richest family in town and senior partner in the accounting firm she works for, only to find out that he planted evidence on her work computer to frame her for his embezzlements. Now out on bail and expecting to be sentence for a crime she did not commit, she decides to go wild and meet a man from a dating app at a Chicago underground club. Her date is a no-show but she mistakingly thinks her neighbors' house guest is her date. Gorgeous Highlander, Lachlan MacTaggart switched homes with her neighbors to experience 1 month in America. Now he wants Erica to be his American fling. He has been hurt and will never do a relationship again. He can offer her hot sex and companionship but no relationship. Facing jail time, Erica agrees, but she is not the casual sex kind of girl. Will Erica be able to clear her name with the help of her pro bono lawyer? Will she have the courage to tell Lachlan why she gets so sad? After a month, will Lachlan really be able to leave Erica?

The plot is engaging and the characters endearing. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I didn't expect this book to contain as many bedrooms scenes as it did, and although tastefully done with humour, I found that there was a little too much for my personal liking. However, from a romantic standpoint, the attraction between Lachlan and Erica built from the opening chapter. They made a pact and in doing so, shot themselves in the foot as things would have been so much easier if they had just been honest with one another from the beginning avoiding all sorts of assumptions and misunderstandings. However, it did add to the story and introduced a element of mystery as they both studiously avoided personal subjects. Having been taken for a ride by someone we trusted, I felt Erica's hurt and impotence at the situation she found herself in, with no money to hire the people who could investigate on her behalf but at the same time facing a deluge of incrimination for a crime she didn't commit. Lachlan on the other hand, has had his share of betrayal and whilst trying to protect his heart, he hurts Erica's. I enjoyed both of the main characters and Erica's parents were full of mischief and fun. I especially enjoyed the closing chapter of the book and the romantic setting. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
