Lethal in a Kilt

He's lethally seductive, always in control -- until now.

I hate Logan MacTaggart. A mature single mom shouldn't say things like that, but I can't help it. Every rude word that comes out of his mouth makes me want to slug him. Or rip his clothes off. Sometimes both. His secret agent past is classified, but I don't like secrets. So why can't I keep my hands off him?

Serena Carpenter is a bitch. Every time she slaps me and calls me disgusting, I want to drag her into the nearest dark corner and show her exactly how rude I can be. I'm a spy, a killer, and a womanizer. I should stay away, but I can't stop myself. I want Serena, but it's just sex. So why does it get harder and harder to keep my distance?

If Logan and I didn't work together, maybe we could stay away from each other. But I see him every day, and the more I see him the more I crave that infuriating man. It's not fair for a jerk to be so hot and irresistible. So what if I'm starting to see something more in him, something I don't want to see--the real man under the tough guy cover. We're completely wrong for each other. But maybe...

When enemies become lovers, can it blossom into more? Find out in Lethal in a Kilt, the seventh book in the bestselling, award-winning Hot Scots series of contemporary romances. Check out the entire series:

Too Sexual

I have read several books in this series with varying levels of enjoyment. Perhaps because I read Wrapped in a Kilt first, my thoughts on what this series would be are at variance with what it actually is. Let me say that in general, this is a super steamy, highly sexually charged series. This one, to me, felt over the top in this aspect. Logan seems to be only a walking gonad, so to speak, thinking only ever with his nether brain. Over the course of an actual novel, I find this to be annoying and makes the story feel one note. I like my romantic heroes to be believable and relatable men; surely, men care about more than that? I did like that the heroine was north of 40, as women of a certain age don't often star in romances. But I just couldn't get past the over-sexualized nature of this book and relationship. I prefer books, even those that are relatively steamy, to offer more than titillation. There has to be a good story and compelling characters. I just did not feel like this book got those aspects right.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Sparks fly whenever Logan and Serena are around each other in this opposites attract romance. Their chemistry is off the charts hot and I loved watching them come together. The author weaves a realistic story with strong characters,an entertaining dialogue and delivers a fun romantic read. She brings a cast of supporting characters, all playing matchmaker and takes them on an exciting journey on the way to finding their HEA. It's well written, moves fluidly and is an entertaining read. Highly recommend this book.

Spy Turned Full Time Sweetheart!

I have fallen in love with Anna Durand's books as they are so full of everything I like in a Romance: smart women, hot men with heart and a few suspenseful twists and turns that lead to a happy ending. Lethal in a Kilt delivered all that and more as I swooned over Serena and Logan's relationship. Don't get me wrong, Logan made me want to smack him quite a bit at the beginning of the the book - and how in the world Serena didn't deck the guy, I do not understand - but you knew all the smart-mouth activity would erupt into passion.

But the passion on the page is nothing compared to when the story is performed by Shane East and Emma Wilder in the absolutely wonderful audiobook! A Scottish accent is not easy and these two drop Gaelic words like experts, then flip back to English & American accents without missing a beat. The amount of giddiness was off the charts when the dialogue of the main characters turned into full on banter - so amazing to listen to their talent.

Who doesn't love a good spy who retires and the heroine who can bring out the sweetheart hiding beneath the smug, sexy, protective attitude? This is a romance story I'll be adding to my repeat listen pile!

Totally disappointed. Serena is 42 and is suppose to be a loving and responsible single mom of a 15 year old son. Yet she not only tolerates workplace sexual harassment but willingly participants in having sex at the office. ‘Her mind was saying no, but her body was saying yes??’ Come on people, she’s 42 not 18 !! Her wishy-washy actions only encourage sexual predators to justify forcing themselves on women. I could not relate to or enjoy such ridiculous characters. I fast-forwarded through the chapter hoping the plot would get better, but it only got more unrealistic. (i.e. Serena went on a dangerous mission with Logan. Really?? Not only did she have no training or skills, what single mom whose son has already lost one parent would do this?). The final coup de gras of stupidity in this plot was when Logan finally says he loves her and proposes marriage, she turns him down because now... all of a sudden...she’s worried about the impact his career might have on her family?!? This book was a complete waste of my time and money.

Found this series after looking for more shane East narrated books and decided to give this one a try. I haven't read any other Hot Scot books. I nearly stopped at Ch 1 having a very visceral hatred of Logan's actions and attitude. He made non-consensual sexual advances. I pushed on but only made it to Chapter 5. I had to stop due to continued sexual harassment. I just can't get past that.

Couldn't finish it. The words "Sexual harassment" was so apparent and blatant. I know it's a fictional story, but I just couldn't deal with the arrogance anymore.

He's the rough and tumble James Bond sort; she's the nurturing widow and single mother... and the matchmaking begins.

His casual posture belied the vigilance he always conveyed like he was on guard at every moment for bad guys who might attack. These days, the focus of his vigilance seemed to be me.

Serena Carpenter's disdain for retired MI6 agent Logan MacTaggart is understandable with his arrogant and crude ways, but she can't deny he's hot. When her boss and Logan's cousin, Evan, hires him to head his security team, Serena is appointed Logan's company tour guide which leads to interesting liaisons in various parts of the building. Why is she so attracted to this jerk?

My married cousins would do anything, probably even commit felonies, to get me married off next. The American Wives Club, as the Yankee partners of my cousins called themselves, had made me their official mission.

Logan MacTaggart is bored at his new job, so he's having fun pestering his cousin's harpy assistant, Serena, by seducing her despite her apparent dislike of him.  Why is he suddenly so attracted to her and why is he opening up to her about his past?

I love Anna Durand's books. They are full of hot sex, adventure, and so much laughter. I found myself laughing-out-loud at the antics of the Witches of Ballachulish (Logan's sisters) and the hilarious flirting and sexy banter between Serena and Logan. Of course, the sex scenes are hot and I will never look at a copy room the same again. In addition, I enjoyed the love between Evan and Keely and the MacTaggart family dynamic.

Though this is book 7 in the Hot Scots series, it reads well as a standalone. I plan to read the rest in this series and look forward to Alex and Catriona's story which is a teaser in this book.  Recommend highly!

Thank you to Ms. Durand for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

LETHAL IN A KILT is the seventh book in the Hot Scots series. Each is a stand-alone romantic suspense with interaction from the previous and upcoming couples. Though there is no need to have read the previous stories, I highly recommend all of them.

You can only fight the attraction for so long; especially when one of you is an American and the other is a sexy MacTaggart.

I loved this older woman-younger man, later in life romance which only emphasizes that love doesn’t know our ages.

Because Logan is an ex-spy – who doesn’t quite remember to leave it at ‘ex’ – there is a bit of dashing adventure that is the cause of Serena’s fear of commitment. I love that they TALK… sometimes very loudly… to work things out as more mature people are more apt to do. It can be frustrating to always read of immature twenty-boppers who haven’t learned to communicate.

This was a fun, well-written story with wonderful characters, a bit of adventure, and some sweet, yet steamy love. I loved the story and I love the series.

The next two “victims” of the MacTaggart love bug, Catriona MacTaggart and Alex Thorne had their story start here… well, actually it started ten years ago. I’m looking forward to their second-chance romance in IRRESISTIBLE IN A KILT.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Amazingly entertaining and scorchingly hot read
Lethal In A Kilt (Hot Scots Book 7) by Anna Durand features the elusive and secretive Logan MacTaggart. Phew! This Hot Scot is lethal in so many ways, most of them deliciously dirty! Serena is fierce in her own right and lethal to Logan once they get past all the misunderstandings and misplaced feelings. Neither one makes a very good impression on the other and it seems this is done purposely on each of their parts. Deny is the name of their game and it can only hold out so long against the strength and persistence of their deepest desires fueled by unstoppable chemistry.
The plot, along with the development of a relationship and shifting feelings is both entertaining and engaging. I swear Logan and Serena have regressed to elementary/primary school yard antics! While very adult, Logan is a master dirty talker, every early interaction is meant to stir up trouble and prompt a negative reaction. Serena delivers with gusto! She is not shy about speaking her mind about his behavior and pretends she wants nothing to do with him. For both of them that may be true, but deep down, they actually want and need the opposite.
The plot has both mystery, danger, suspense and emotional entanglement. Logan and Serena go on mission/adventure together and discover more layers, added depth of each other and new worries for Serena. Their backstories are the root of fear and worry, especially for Serena.
Overall, Logan is a true MacTaggart alpha full of determination and persistence in finally securing Serena's heart. Despite their rocky and antagonistic beginning, Logan and Serena are destine for smoother sailing moving forward and bound for a wonderful, fun and family-filled HEA.

Sparks fly between Logan MacTaggart and Serena Carpenter, the latest "victims" of the MacTaggart lovebug. The MacTaggarts are a large clan and they have been dropping like flies for Americans. Enigmatic Logan is ex-military and ex-SIS, but for the last 3 years has worked for his cousin, Ian, laying bricks, which he found very therapeutic. However, billionaire cousin Evan, has asked him to come to America to work as his head of security at Evanescent Security Technologies Limited, while widow, single mother of a teenage boy, and former nurse, Serena, Keely's best friend is working as Evan's executive assistance. Their previous encounters have been far from positive, because they are both fighting the attraction, but the MacTaggart family will not stop interfering until they realize that they are perfect for each other.

We find out why Logan went into the military in the first place, why he feels he is not relationship material and needs a solitary life and meet his 3 sisters. We also learn what happened to Serena's husband and why she is afraid of falling in love again. And we get a glimpse of the next 2 "victims", a second chance story for Catriona MacTaggart and Alex Thorne, coming soon.

This is a well written, fun read, with wonderful characters and even a bit of an adventure. I love this series.

I read an ARC from AXP Elite Readers. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Dang, but those Scots in the MacTaggart family are HOT, HOT, HOT!!!
This storyline was a bit different because here we have a younger man pursuing an older woman who also happens to be a widow with a teenage son. The tension that occurs due to their strong physical attraction to each other just snap, crackle and popped right off the page! A sexy spicy fervent enemies-to-lovers romance that takes us around the world with danger tracking their every move while raw physical attraction turns into a deep abiding forever love!! Logan finds himself faced with the question, can an MI6 agent ever really retire and find meaning to life outside of the adrenaline-fueled existence that has been his life for so many years? While Serena has her own question of whether she could ever be willing to entrust her heart to another man after having had to suffer through the loss of her first husband and the pain that caused. Can they find what they are looking for in each other? The snappy banter between Logan and Serena was so full of snark and sarcastic barbs it was like waiting for a volcano to erupt after numerous seismic warning shocks and tremors!! Another excellent book by an excellent author complete with a glimpse into the next one in this large clan to succumb to the loss of their single-hood!

I LOVED this as its filled with sass, sexiness and danger as well as all kinds of Scots. I was absolutely enthralled with everything about this story. The characters are fun, interesting and I couldnt get enough. This is my favorite story so far (I’ve read/listened to 3) and will go on my re-listen list.

That Logan! He is sooo sexy! His confidence adds to his attraction. I totally agree with Serena that his different voices and looks he gives just add to his charm. I really enjoyed getting to know him. He has quirks and issues but its easy to over look them because....well..the charm he exudes.

Serena is completely against anything Logan. Until he starts working for her boss. I would LOVE to be her...in the office..with his sexy voice whispering in my ear and his lips randomly being pressed against mine. Yeah..Im pretty sure I could do that. Really she is a wonderful character but sorry Logan wins as my fav in here.

As for secondaries her boy is a perfect teenager. I love kids in books and Chase is no exception. He adds innocence and charm to the story. Of course I enjoyed Logan’s sisters and Alex not to mention all the other MacTaggarts we run across.

I did listen to this on audio. Shane East and Emma Wilder completely ROCKeD this one! They really added to the story with their narration. A perfect one to re-listen to over and over.

Fabulous enemies-to-lovers romance!

Oh my word! Such delightfully snarky, deliciously hot hate-you-but-want-to-bang-you banter! Serena and Logan are convinced - absolutely, irrevocably, 100% convinced - that they hate the other but only need one time to work the tension out of their systems. And that first time ends up being a total bust! I felt so bad for them, but not bad enough to stop laughing!

Eventually, they get past that point and start to realize that hate is just another word for attraction they don't want to admit to. By then, they're embroiled in a bit of a mystery caper that takes them across the globe and brings all of Serena's fears into sharp focus. Only a trip to Scotland to visit with the entire MacTaggart clan can help Serena sort through all the conflicting emotions in her heart.

I loved her son, Chase, and her heartwarming relationship with his grandparents. Seeing Evan and Keely again was just perfect. Meeting Alex and finding out about his history left me wanting the next book in this series right now!

I loved how this book ended with the whole clan at the castle, and how it solidified Logan and Serena's HEA. Each trip to this fictional world just leaves me wanting more and more. Time to reread the earlier books while I wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Logan MacTaggart is an ex-spy. Currently he's working for his cousin in America. Now he can pursue Serena Carpenter. He knows that she finds him crude and irritating, but he can't stop thinking about her. I enjoyed watch the sparks fly when these two are together. Their attraction is off the charts. I wondered where it would lead. Logan is a charmer and a rogue, but he doesn't want anything permanent. He's a temptation for Serena, but she's
a widow with a teenage son. I was sorry that her fear of losing someone she loves is holding her back. She needs more in her life. This story is a wild, romantic ride. I loved it! It's filled with matchmakers and loving family determined to get Logan and Serena married. The MacTaggarts are a force to be reckoned with. They add spice, excitement and even Wiccan magic to Lethal in a Kilt. Anna Durand's Hot Scot series is a winner. The characters, the dialogue and the story are entertaining and romantic. This is the first book that I've read by this author, but I plan to change that. I need more of the MacTaggart Clan in my life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this enemies to lovers book. The characters had depth and complexity, the story was unique, and the dialogue was hysterical. I have to confess this is one of my favorite tropes and the author did a wonderful job presenting this story.

Serena Carpenter is a widowed single Mom raising a teenage son and working for her best friend's husband as his executive assistant. Logan MacTaggart is former British Army, Mi6 and a womanizer. His cousin Evan asks him to work for him at his security technology company. Serena and Logan cannot stand each other. She thinks he is rude, crude and lewd. He thinks she is a *itch. Evan asks Serena to show Logan around the company and get him oriented. Logan takes pleasure in instigating a kissing campaign and they have a disastrous encounter in the copy room. They eventually give in to the pressure to spend time together and begin a sexual relationship. Their feelings develop and they fall in love but it takes a lot of work before they can get their HEA.

This is hot, romantic, amusing and fun. Logan has been hot for Serena since the minute he had laid eyes on her. Serena wanted nothing to do with the rude, crude and arrogant man. When Logan's cousin begs him to come to work for him, he does. The minute he see Serena he starts a campaign to get her to have sex with him, which she keeps telling him won't happen, even though everything he does turns her on. They start to get thrown together by everyone, and eventually Serena gives in. They argue every time they're together, because both are fighting the feelings they have for the other. Logan is very funny when he's trying to irritate Serena, and he's a sweet, romantic and caring person. Serena is a widow who is afraid to love again, but she can't help falling for Logan once he starts showing the sweet, charming man he is under the crude facade. This is part of a fascinating series of Highlander's and their women.

This book irritated me. Serena played this back and forth game with Logan. Logan was at least consistent with his harassment, which Serena did nothing much to stop or avoid.

The thing that really irritated me was Serena went through starting a sexual relationship with Logan, then going through the situation in Egypt, the trip to Scotland, and then decides to change her mind. Just the arrogance of her thinking Logan was going to stop doing anything he wanted in his career, just for her, did me in.

I listened to the audiobook and it went on, and on. The most interesting part of the book was the time they went to Egypt. I also thought it was unusual for Serena to have wanted to take the trip in the first place.

Let me not forget about the part witH Alex and Cat. How do you hold a grudge for ELEVEN years? Ridiculous.

I liked the narration. Shane East is always a good listen, even when the story is just ok.

Logan MacTaggart and Serena Carpenter work together but cannot stand to be around each other. Actually Logan, a retired James Bond type, gets bored and knows he can get on Serena’s last nerve as he flirts with her and enjoys her determination to resist him. But both of them are starting to feel an attraction and their chemistry starts to sizzle. Is there actually something there for them? Could they really have a relationship? Those bad boys can be soooo enticing!

This was a fun book because family matchmakers get involved and Logan and Serena are so determined to avoid each other, so you know the situations are going to be laugh-out-loud funny. I loved the characters and the clever story line that led the reader through this lovely game. Grab your copy and see if they get caught up and find that HEA after all!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. At first Logan struck me exactly as Serena described him, but little things started to peek out to show there was more to him than the hunky package he came in. I admit, I have a massive weakness for a man in a kilt. They make progress and have setbacks like any other couple and have to figure out how to work through them. After going with Logan on an “adventure”, another old friend hired him for utilizing his old spy skills, and she has to come to terms with her own issues from the past for them to be able to move forward. I have not read the rest of the series but plan to seek them out due to said previous weakness for men in kilts!

I’ve been reading the series and even though this stands alone, you’ll want to read the other books too. This starts out with a hero you KNOW you are going to hate. He’s too full of himself and just downright wrong. She’s a single mom who knows better but their chemistry is off the charts and if they can stop fighting long enough they just might find an HEA. Fast moving and easy to read, you’ll have to plow through the first few chapters. You won’t like Logan but keep reading. Serena is absolutely the wrong woman for him but somehow they manage to set the scenes on fire and it seems that she’s the only one who can really handle him. They are well suited and they definitely light a fire. By the end, you’ll want your own Hot Scot (well maybe with a little taming). (I voluntarily reviewed and ARC).

Logan and Serena hate each other initially but they couldn’t stop the attraction from taking over. Logan and she have to learn how to work together and there were some laughs, especially because the family is quite amusing (hot scots!) There were some really sweet moments too. Admittedly, I wasn’t really sure how well Logan’s case (he is ex military and did a job to help his friend Alex) fit within the relationship. But overall I enjoyed the story.

Emma Wilder and Shane East narrated the audiobook and they were fantastic. Great accents (sigh) excellent playing of the multiple characters (and there were many to the point it got a little confusing to remember all the names!) and overall, just a pleasing fun auditory experience!

3-1/2 stars. First…Shane West and Emma Wilder were wonderful narrators. Shane-your Scottish accent was so much better this book! About the first half of this book was QUITE off-putting. Neither Logan nor Serena were interesting or likable. There was no plot that I could detect and the action between the two was both incomprehensible and just plainly annoying. I almost DNF. The second half of the book was better—although confusing still. Logan’s sisters were poorly used in the plot. The drama between Logan and Serena got very intense at the end—but since the reason for the drama only reared itself suddenly at the end, it didn’t really fit. I have enjoyed the previous books in this series, but this one just seemed very weak and cobbled together.

Logan MacTaggart is now working with a woman who despises everything about him. He has wanted to have her for 8 months, even if she’s a bitch He also feels unnecessary in his job as head of security with his cousin’s security and surveillance corporation. After all, Logan was former military and spy who had killed for his homeland. He knew the physical not tech device side of security. Serena Carpenter loathes everything about Logan. He is crude, rude, and totally hot, but she would never agree to have a “poke” with him. As the lust heats up between them, they agree to have a “one and done”, or do they?

Anna Durand is always on my one click list she has been for a long time and who doesn’t love a hot Scot in a kilt and the accent is swoon worthy, Anna really knows how to write a sexy alpha man in a kilt and even though Logan and Serena hate each other it wouldn’t take much for them to rip each other’s clothes off their chemistry is electric. Sorry guys no spoilers so read the blurb and that will give you the gist to this story, with action, adventure, suspense, danger, twists and turns, mystery and sizzling 🔥 passion will give you everything you need in an amazing story. It’s a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

For two people who are convinced that relationships are not for them and the snarky retorts being thrown back and forth, the sparks dont just sting they explode into one awesome love story. For Logan and Serena their adventure starts with the idea that they are so not right for each other to a mystery that takes them across the pond to a meet and greet with three more MacTaggart family members and a love story to rock you to the bones. Wonderful imagery, heartfelt romance and a tease for the next love affair.

this was a lovely story to sink into for an evening. Logan MacTaggert is central to this story. After a life in the army and as a spy at MI6, he is hired by his cousin Evan in his security company. The underlying idea is to link him to Serena Carpenter. She has been a widow for 10 years and the best friend of Evan's wife. At first it seems as if they hate each other, but both have thoughts of sex when they see each other. Thinking that 1x sex can rid them of those thoughts turns out to be anything but true.
A nice story in which the role of family and commitments is strong.

Enemies to lovers? Yes!!!

I can't help but love a good story where enemies are destined to become lovers, where the chemistry is off the charts and the tension becomes palpable. No matter how they try to resist, Logan and Serena are like iron and a magnet: no matter what, they're attracted to each other. Excellent character development, brilliant writing, suspense and of course a HEA. What more could I ask for?

The Scots of the MacTaggart clan have been dropping like dominos by falling for strong, passionate Americans. And, it's Logan MacTaggert's turn to drop. Logan and Serena get along like oil and water, but both are fighting the attraction neither can deny. These two are well written, interesting characters and the chemistry between them undeniable. The book is fast paced, has some compelling twists and turns, and great sizzle. A great addition to the Hot Scot Series.
I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest review.
