Kyros' tyrannical ruler, King Gjanion, has convinced his subjects that he is the last wizard. While seeking to crush the rebellion that has risen against him, Gjanion encounters Mara -- the true last wizard. Fearing the exposure of his lies, the King tries to silence Mara, who fights to protect those she loves. Her adoptive parents, Zhira and Gant, use alchemy to support her journey, to find the rebellion, and to help end the King's reign.
As enchanting as it is suspenseful, the story of Kyros is brought to life through plenty of vibrant characters, an intruiguing magical system, and captivating lore. This is a fantastical setting which defies being put into a box—it is simultaneously an amalgamation of various classical tropes and a champion of new-age idealism.
As the story progresses the themes shift and mature, and the complexity of the plot evolves nicely alongside the reader’s growing understanding of the world. I found myself reading for the character development just as much as for the plot development, something I think many other stories in the genre struggle with encouraging.
There are twists to be enjoyed, questions to be pondered, and thoughts to be provoked. While reading the book’s final act, I couldn’t put it down! All in all, a wonderful introduction to this world, and I can’t wait for future stories.
An awesome whirlwind adventure! I've read a few "magical" books, and this one is fantastic! Great character development, a compelling plot that makes it hard to put down, unique and inspired treatment of magical concepts, very impressive twists, and incredibly relatable all while being a fantastical escape from actual reality. I cannot wait to read the next part of this series!
This is not the kind of book I usually read, but my friend could not stop talking about it. I’m so glad I gave it a go, because it was truly awesome! It sucked me in from the very beginning and did not let up. It was engaging, entertaining and gripping from start to finish. I can’t wait to get the second book.
A captivating tapestry of fantasy, The Last Wizard pulls influence from classic tales while developing a unique and intricate plot. This gripping novel is good for all ages and a must-read for fantasy lovers.
Good character development as the story progresses. Action, while there is plenty, it can be spotty in the details. The action starts with great descriptive moves and then quickly reaches its finale.
