If you are looking for an hour-by-hour account on the strategic, operational, tactical, and technical aspects of the Battle of the Bulge, I did not write that book, and you can do better elsewhere. As in all my previous books found here, I hope the narrative flow serves up enough of the above to keep the reader engaged in a chronological and contextual ‘big picture’ fashion, keeping in mind that in most cases the common soldier had no idea what was happening around him. I just wanted to talk to the men who were there, and that is what I share with you—their words. This author has preserved and brought to life so many firsthand accounts of World War II. It’s absolutely amazing. Brought tears to my eyes multiple times. Makes me wish I would’ve asked my grandfather more questions about his experience with the war. My grandfather got a purple heart from the battle of the bulge after surviving D-day. This book truly does honor WWII generations.

I hope people realize what Mr. Rozell has done....he's kept these heroes alive. At the end of each chapter he updates if the veteran has passed on. I mourn afresh after getting to know them a bit. Well done, Mr. Rozelle, they'll never be forgotten.

As in the case of Book V, Book VI-The Bulge and Beyond, is a riveting first-person description of REAL war, the inhumanity, the pain and suffering, and the experiences that stayed with these men and women for a lifetime. This war shaped the entire future of "the greatest generation" that fought and died to save the world from domination, and there is no doubt they did. With this series, I'm finding that no novel can deliver the type of honesty and character that the first-person accounts can. Thank you SO much, Matt Rozell, for getting the interviews and input from these heroes before they passed on.

As I read these memories of the Soldiers, doing the fighting, it made me feel as if I was there. Their clarity, of what they saw, felt, encountered and endured are certainly unique experiences. They do not speak of heroics, but HEROES they are. I was surprised that many of them did not know their senior leaders especially when their lives were put in harms way by those very senior leaders. I believe that "their world" consisted of their immediate surroundings and the fighters closest to them. A super informative read - easy to digest and comprehend - and certainly makes me appreciative of the world they made FREE for us.

W W2 as it really happened.
This book is an excellent read. True stories straight from those who lived it. Should be required reading in all high schools so our young people never forget what the Greatest Generation in the history of our nation did to preserve our freedom and the life we enjoy today. Highly recommend the entire series.

Sad!
I am sad because I have to wait until the Fall of 2021. I really its this great book about my Father's generation. He never talked about his WWII experience. I was lucky to find his discharge papers in Harlan County Kentucky. Did not know we had troops in the British West Indies.

Another excellent book from the series
The Bulge and Beyond is another great collection of personal accounts of WWII veterans. As a retired History teacher and WWII “buff” whose late dad and 5 uncles served in the War (and survived to live long and productive lives), I truly appreciate this wonderful series.

About the confusion and obstacles of the battles in Belgium - the Battle of the Bulge told through the stories of veterans (well into their late 80s and early 90s). One history teacher on the East Coast call;enged his students to record the stories that, first, the stories would be recorded and, second, the students would begin to understand the power of that generation.

Great read
I love these books because they are first hand accounts of boys who became men if they survived. We owe so much to my father's generation that has almost slipped away. We must not forget them.

Excellent 1st History of the Greatest Generation
We shall never see their kind again! My Dad, a WWII vet passed away October 2023 at 99. He made it to the WWII memorial a lot. My daughter and I found his diary from Burma this past Christmas.
