Disloyal Opposition: How the NeverTrump Right Tried—And Failed—To Take Down the President

Rate this book
The election of Donald Trump in 2016 didn't just shock the country, it jolted the Republican Party and forced an overdue reckoning between rank-and-file Republicans and party leadership. Long-held beliefs promoted by the Republican Party establishment were smashed in real time as Republican voters, and millions of Obama voters especially in the Midwest, rejected the bi-party consensus on illegal immigration, international trade pacts, and losing foreign wars. The GOP--and the conservative movement--was upended by a brash Manhattan mogul who connected with coveted working-class voters in a way no other Republican presidential candidate had in three decades.

Stung by his ascendancy as Republican voters rejected one establishment candidate after another during the presidential primaries, exiled conservative leaders banded together to form what is known as "NeverTrump." This cabal of self-proclaimed conservatives includes two former Republican presidential nominees, former Republican lawmakers and Bush administration officials, campaign consultants, and editors and writers at top conservative publications.

After failing to stop Trump in 2016, NeverTrump became part of #TheResistance, a crusade primarily organized by the Left to sabotage Trump's presidency. The very same people who had used the Republican Party as their vehicle for power, fame, and influence are actively working to destroy the party's leader and punish Trump-supporting Republicans in Washington. NeverTrump helped deceive the public about nonexistent Russian election collusion and supported impeaching the president. Some jumped on the Left's mob against Brett Kavanaugh and the Covington Catholic High School students. NeverTrump opposed nearly every Trump policy without offering any alternative to what they derisively called "Trumpism."

At the same time, NeverTrump became what they claimed to despise about Donald petty, vengeful, bombastic, reactionary, and abusive. As a result, it's imperative that those associated with NeverTrump never hold a place of influence in the GOP again.

I agree with this author in every respect. A stellar Patriot.

For me, there were no surprises or stellar revelations in this book. Merely confirmation of my own research and concurrent beliefs. I personally think it’s basically over, and the great American experience has met its end from within. The government has been weaponized to such a large extent that we can no longer individually stand against it. The middle class are the ones that are being shackled and destroyed, with no way to fight the agencies employed by our government.

However, I’m not here to preach. Great book, and when based against my own hard-won and extremely time consuming research, factually accurate. Thank you.

Wow, this is a thoroughly researched, developed and narrated read regarding many of the players who sought to sabotage President Donald Trump's campaign in 2016. Released in 2020 at the start of the lockdowns due to the virus from the Wuhan Lab in China, author Julie Kelly lays the groundwork for how this tsunami of opposition against Donald Trump began out in the proverbial middle of the sea like every tsunami does.

Disloyal Opposition is a history of this time in America's presidency, politics, media, and social culture. It's the war that the opponents of Trump waged on the American people. They may have aimed their vitriole at Trump but it is the American people whom they mean to control by destroying their hero. It was said after Princess Diana was killed that society destroys its heroes. Kelly gives readers insight into the political players who work to destroy Trump, an American hero.

Kelly points out, specifically, the network of established Conservatives and self-proclaimed Republicans whose recorded statements in the news, both in print and through broadcasts, show them to be vitriolic and hateful to Trump and Trump supporters. For true historians, the similarities between America's political players, who oppose Trump, mirror the political players that sought to crush the Russian Kulaks during the Marxist revolution, the political players that sought to crush the Girondins during France's Reign of Terror, the political players in the Third Reich who sought to crush the nations of western Europe, the political players who sought to crush Bosnians, the people of Kosovo, Croatians, and Macedonians during the Yugoslavian War, and the political players who seek to crush the Ukrainians.

Kelly shows that Trump's opposition uses the tactics, language/propaganda, and political tools, which monsters of the past have used on the prospering masses. She shines light on these similarities. It is certainly something the reader takes away from Kelly's research, analysis and narration.

The book immortalizes the speech and recorded opinion of President Trump's opposition. Many times, it is sickening to read the recorded statements made by President Trump's opposition, and yet, it is an essential part of America's history. Disloyal Opposition is the ugly truth about President Trump's opposition, and in turn, the ugly truth about the individuals who seek to crush Americans in the vane of those political players who aimed to crush prosperity and civility in societies through the centuries.

Good look at the people who have overthrown their personal beliefs because of their dislike of Donald Trump. Unfortunately in life sometimes you have to choose between the lesser of two not so great choices.
