Long ago, the Chosen One defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the world…not that it matters to ordinary high school student Hironori Tabata. But word is the Demon King’s coming back, and the only thing that can stop him is what’s in Hironori’s pants. Before long, demi-human girls are throwing themselves at him, hoping to give birth to the next Chosen One, and Hironori has to worry more about saving his chastity for the girl he loves than saving the world!
The way this manga is described and marketed is as a sexy comedy and yes, that is exactly what it tries to be except for one major missed detail... consent. Ah yes, I'm about to ruin all the fun sexy times with a whole detailed discussion about consent. Buckle up.
This story is about a high school student who, for whatever reason, is chosen to be the one who needs to help bear the next savior of the world. He's not the savior, but his child is supposed to be, so a litany of women are now asked to mate with him so that whatever powers that be can figure out who will be the most powerful offspring. The world setup is actually somewhat interesting, kind of playing off the Monster Manga that is getting quite popular today. This is sort of a modern fantasy setting of "what if all those fantasy worlds with elves, dwarves, etc. continued to modernize out of medieval times" and just wound up here in modern times with all the races existing alongside regular humans. So, at first I was kind of down to read this, it seemed like it would be an interesting world. It is made pretty clear at the beginning that our character has the hots for this elf girl who sits next to him in class, but he's too nervous/shy to talk to her or make any meaningful moves. Let me be clear that his being a minor isn't exactly my biggest issue here, in fact teens exercising and showing consent is probably one of THE most important things.
Now the setup seemed rather promising at this point and our main character is rather plain as they often are in these kind of manga. They even give him the additional problem that if he gets too aroused around real women then he passes out. Again, not an issue for me and it would have been hilarious to see the main premise try to navigate this problem... and they do, by basically using it as a feature.
Here goes... the first candidate to be the bearer of his child is this hot angel girl, who they make clear is a virgin. Playing up the whole Angel thing I assume. She's the one to inform him of what he is supposed to do to help save the world. Here's where my problem begins. He doesn't want to. He flat out says no multiple times throughout all of these interactions. So the angel chick continues to come onto him and turn him on until he passes out. Now, what I wanted to have happen is this girl be concerned for his well being and basically stop all advances. Then try to come up with strategies on how they can mate without him passing out and basically getting to know him in the process so that he would say yes to all of this. But that never happens, his whole passing out is now a feature, because he's still aroused after losing consciousness the Angel just has sex with him. He wakes up with her cleaning up and wondering what happened. The manga tries to play this off as a "funny" thing because the main character is so stupid he doesn't realize he's just been raped (I know, absolutely hilarious). This literally happens chapter after chapter as they introduce the next round of girls. One of the girls is outright violent with him, even forcefully kissing him (which they inform us is his first kiss)... which is totally hilarious until she rapes him... At this point I'm absolutely shocked Yen Press of all publishers has picked up this title.
I mean, there's a part in here where the main character gets re-introduced to his childhood best friend where they reminisce about the past and play video games. Until, at the end of their day, she says she's one of the chosen maidens. Then she proceeds to restrain him and rape him. Like, wow... awesome. What even is this? Then we get to the obligatory loli character who is a 100 year old dwarf, so hey, she's legal age right? Yeah, she still looks about 8... but isn't it just funny that because she's so small she can't successfully complete her mission because he doesn't fit in? Oh man... filled with humor here. This is where I was 100% done with this, if the nail in the coffin wasn't the best friend, this absolutely should be for anyone reading this. This should have been a hard stop for the publishers both here and overseas and I can't figure out why this proceeds.
This volume actually ends with our main character realizing he's been getting raped by these girls all this time and oh wow... the funny? I think I would have had less of a problem if this wasn't a comedy. I don't mind stories engaging these tough subjects, but this really plays into the problems of men who get raped by women in a very similar way it's brought up when women get raped. You know the narrative where if a women gets raped there's always some idiot who chimes in with "well, what was she wearing" as if her clothing were consent. In stuff like this the narrative is on the male end is "well, was she hot?" As if men automatically consent simply because someone is attractive. The manga absolutely plays it off that way. It's "funny" that he doesn't want to have sex with these women, because they're all so hot, why wouldn't he? ha ha... yeah no.
For the record, I do NOT mind reading manga with adult themes, but I do care about how it is all handled. Take World's End Harem, for example, there is a point in the story where a man is kidnapped and he is raped and they absolutely treat it as torture. One of the reasons I appreciated that manga, even though it is basically hentai, is because the author has one thing that he uses, consent. Rekomaru Otoi has no such use for consent in this manga and I get the impression this will turn into a sort of "Stockholm Syndrome-esque" scenario where over the next few volumes he will learn to enjoy being with his rapists. Heck, he has them go to a waterpark together with our main characters other male friends and his friends are all impressed with how hot the girls are.
Now, I could be totally wrong and volume 2 could get ultra serious about the topic of consent, but this is marketed as a comedy and the use of what is "comedic" in this volume leads me to believe that this thing won't trend this way. I don't think I'll ever find out, because I'm giving this a hard pass after this.
I'm really big on the whole narrative that consent is hot, and it really really is. I wanted to like this manga and it's setup could have been absolutely hilarious. If they had introduced this scenario and our main character was like "hell yeah, I get to bang all these hot chicks" with all parties consenting and then they have to figure out his pass out problem... yes, that would have been hilarious. But this manga took a hard nope at that concept and just went for... what? Rape fantasy? I don't know, it's just not worth it and as people are fond of saying these days. I'm just tired.
Okay...just looking at the cover and reading the description I was under the impression that the poor ordained boy was going to be given a fighting chance to save his virginity for the elf girl he adores from school. What I did not expect is the poor sap passes out anytime he gets aroused and whatever flavor of monster girl at the time of his unconsciousness spell will, without consent, take his seed inside their bodies. Hmm I seem to recall there is a word for that...Oh yeah it's rape. Even censoring mature words does not hide the fact that not once has Hironori Tabata given any of the monster girls harvesting his magical hero making semen the go ahead to do what they do. Certainly I can imagine if the scenario was reversed and it was a young human woman who was destined to give birth to a hero of legend but before that she must have sex with an assortment of monster men whether she wants to or not than this book never would have seen print. You know for a supposedly romantic comedy about a boy saving his virginity for the girl he likes it ends up with him believing he is the worst and not these *insert less then honorable description* girls who automatically went right to ignore what he wants for world peace.
*Sighs* I am all for monster girl stories but this story is just wrong. I imagine it wouldn't be much of a story if all of these monster girls say...were artificially inseminated then he wouldn't need to be harvested physically against his will multiple times and still sire the next hero while remaining faithful to the girl he likes. Yet this is not the end for next volume there are even more monster girl candidates as the mangaka continues trying to throw a monster girl of probably every single female stereotype. Let's see here... so far we have a good girl, a bad girl, a childhood friend, a tsundere I believe, and a lolita (though being a dwarf she is actually 100 or so) and according to the preview for volume two there will be a cool older dark elf and a gyaru wolf girl making the scenes. Honestly I couldn't care less as this is the first and last book I will ever read in the series. If not for the artwork I wouldn't have even tried to make it to the end of the volume in hopes that maybe a slim chance of redemption was possible for this book nor the barely fair rating I gave it in this review.
How familiar are you with ecchi harem anime tropes? And how capable are you of separating real world morals/ethics from those in erotic fiction? Because if the answer to either of those questions is "not very," you won't be able to get the full enjoyment from this series.
To Save the World, Can You Wake Up the Morning After with a Demi-Human? tells the story of highschooler Hironori Tabata, who has "Full-Body Erection Syndrome", meaning his entire body goes completely stiff when he gets an erection. And if a girl so much as touches him, he gets an erection.
Typical ecchi harem silliness ensues when the plot is revealed that due to a prophecy about the Demon King and a Chosen One, a whole score of demi human waifus are coming for his, well, cum, in order to give birth to said Chosen One.
I say typical ecchi harem silliness because none of this manga fazed me. I've read plenty of harem manga before this. I thought it was funny. I thought the girls were cute: I'd even go as far as to say I'm enjoying the characters. It's like a lewd, bite-sized version of Maburaho's premise meets Interspecies Reviewers episodic focus on a different monster girl each chapter. So I sat down to write this review, and scrolled through the existing reviews to see what others had said.
And the realisation that there are people out there who cannot separate real world morals and ethics from the fiction they read—especially erotic fiction—are reading this book and becoming enraged hit me in the face like a slapstick saucepan to the face.
If you need your fictional media to represent your real world morals, ethics, then you need to recognise there is a lot of media out there that isn't for you. I am an adult woman and I enjoy ravishment fantasies. I love bodice ripper fiction where villains force themselves on the protesting heroine who may or may not later decide she's into it. I love reading fiction about serial killers and torturers who get away scott-free with their crimes. I love violent video games where you can go on a rampage and mass-murder NPCs and get points for it.
Do I enjoy these crimes being done in real life? Of course I don't, they're crimes. And the mere fact that I have to confirm this fact is so incredibly tiring. Sex-Positive Feminism has clearly lost, because we have entered an age of progressive censorship that mirrors the Christian censorship of last century.
"But I, a person with strong morals, do not enjoy this book about fantasy sex, therefore no one else should enjoy this book about fantasy sex." Congratulations, you sound like a lot of pearl-clutching parents of the last 100 years who have done everything they can to ban books they don't agree with. Just because you don't like a piece of media, doesn't mean that piece of media shouldn't exist. Seeing reviews saying this manga shouldn't have been published was exhausting. Do you have no self-awareness?
Yes. He passes out before the sex takes place, which is treated as a joke. It's a joke on the reader, who probably picked up the book wanting to see the sex taking place. If that makes you go, "NO, WHERE IS THE CONSENT, HE CANNOT CONSENT IF HE IS ASLEEP", it's a "it's not that deep, fam" moment; you are missing the appeal/intention of this manga and you shouldn't read it if you're going to cry about it.
★★★★☆ 4/5. If you like cute and sexy monster girls and silly harem nonsense, pick up this book! I'm looking forward to meeting the new girls in the next volumes! If you want to cry about consent/ethics in a fictional fantasy book, maybe find a different hobby.
Thank you ModestNarcissus for gifting this manga via my Throne wishlist!
First off, this is a manga about rape and it is played off as a lewd joke.
There is another review that does a good job explaining this manga, so I suggest you take a look at that one as well. It's the one star review and it does a fantastic job labelling the issues with this piece.
Honestly, if the genders had been reversed, and it was a women who men kept having sex with while she was unconscious, it never would have been published. The fact that a publisher took a look at this and said 'oh, he's a man, thus it's okay', is disturbing. Yes, this is a work of fiction, I get it. Won't stop me from being surprised this made it out of doujinshi hentai territory.
Beyond the obvious issue with the non-consensual part of this manga, the art is actually pretty decent, and captures a fair amount of the lewdness of the piece quite well. There is fan service all over this volume, including the obligatory beach scene, and anyone wanting to see a variety of monster girls take advantage of an unconscious guy will absolutely love this series. (as you can see from the number of 4 and 5 star reviews)
For me, this is a mixed bag. I don't like the fact that everyone seems to gloss over him being raped. It marginalizes something that should be taken fairly seriously. That said, I also understand that it is a piece of fiction that most will view as a fantasy of sorts and move on. If you are into any of the things I mention above, this may be a manga for you. For me, I think I am done with this series...
What to say about this story…I have had some time to think about it and I still don’t know what to say. Based off of the description, this manga is described as a sexy comedy; an average human boy has the ability to pro-create the next chosen one with a demi-human girl but he doesn’t want to! He wants to save himself for the girl of his dreams. Sounded like a good story line and premise, turns out not so much. I didn’t really find this manga all that funny. The story line basically never changes except he sleeps with a different monster girl each time, and once you realize that, it sort of becomes boring.
I thought he would be given a least a small fighting chance when it comes to saying no to these girls or they would eventually seduce him to saying yes to them. Nope, that is not what happens at all.
I have a thought as to how this might eventually end, but its to early to tell and I am afraid that the second volume will probably be, more or less, the same as volume 1 just when different species of monster girls.
I have already bought *sigh* the second volume so I will continue with at least that. I am hoping that volume 2 will change my mind and I’ll want to continue with this series, but I am not sure.
Ok the "loli" part was s bit disturbing. Yet she was actually 100 years old. So meh. Anyways the premise is interesting, to say the least. Gotta love beast & magical girls. To have this lad's problem! My my, them dames sure aren't gonna to take "NO" for an answer, are they? There's 5 now, the teaser for volume 2 shows that we get at least 2 more. This fellow is gonna have the greatest supernatural harem of all time once it's said & done. Art, a little too sweaty/slimey/slippery/wet for my interests. Well, that's sex for you. Like the song goes, "...like the kind you clean up with a mop & bucket" well, that certainly applies here. So I suppose the art was fairly decent (what is it with Japanese manga artists & overly voluptuous chests? You'd think every gal in Tokyo is carting around beach balls or something! ). Dialogue, silly, weird at times, yet it (mostly) fits. Characters, likeable, relatable, interesting.
The main character is prophesied to be the father of the future Chosen One so a bunch of monster girls are trying to bone him so they may be the mother. But oh no! He is not interested in any of them because he has a crush on a girl in class. With this premise, I thought it would be just some spicy harem manga with world ending consequences. Instead, it's a comedy about how funny it is to sexually assault a guy.
You see, the MC passes out whenever he is touched by women. Of course, he is fully erect when he passes out. So naturally the monster girls f*ck him anyway. It's suppose to be funny because he wakes up and the monster girls are sweaty and covered in jizz but he doesn't remember anything! Hilarious, right? WRONG.
I was looking for fun thinly veiled smut and all I got was trash reinforcing harmful stereotypes about male rape as a joke.
A student passes out every time he gets too horny and monster girls of varying races take advantage of him and "harvest his seed". The manga treats this as very vanilla but it has an overbearing darkness that ruins the lighthearted feeling of the writing. It's a bit too episodic too as every encounter is monster girl comes onto boy, boy refuses advances, boy passes out, satisfied monster girl is caught in a state of post coital semi-nudity and teases him about his being unconscious during his rape, he gives a goofy smile and gets ambushed by the next monster girl. The artwork is fine but it's on the whole not fun and too gross and I kinda felt like I'd be arrested while reading it especially when the dwarf showed up.

2/5 answers the question: "Should you read this?" with a "Probably Not"
The start of it is entirely kinda silly fan service, and then proceeds to be some repetitive "I woke up, and the woman who was harrassing me is covered in sweat and liquids with tissues everywhere."
Moving past the casual sexual assault on the main character by the several sexy women in the book, there appears to be some plot that appears in the last chapter, where the women are trying to get him used to women, so he doesn't just pass out with a boner when they touch him.
That little bit of plot will have me continue reading this to see how it shakes out, and what new characters we'll meet, but I really don't recommend people read this when there's plenty of other high quality manga to read.
Starts off really slow with each chapter introducing a new character and always ending in the same matter. The final chapter actually picks up greatly and gives me hope forbthe next volume. The censoring of the word "sex" and other sexual activities seems weird considering the art is lewd at times but that manga for ya.
Just straight smut but also very much rapey in a way i havent seen before. The poor guy was raped by many demi girls and it seems like the next one will be the same.

Honestly, this volume suffers from his unconsciousness. Not because I’m morally opposed to whatever in fiction, but because it makes it BORING. This is, thankfully, rectified in later volumes (for the most part). :)
Don’t pick this up if you’re squicked by softcore and common hentai/ecchi tropes! You will not enjoy it!
