Everything in our solar system is made of stardust, including YOU! This beautiful scientific fact helps us understand our connection to the cosmos and everything in the world around us. A wondrous STEM book for children which explores the formation of our solar system, our planets, and evolution on our magnificent planet Earth. Written by a father daughter duo and edited by Dr. Eric Meikle, former Education Project Director at the National Center for Science Education, to include both science fact and wonderment. A full glossary of scientific terms are included at the back of the book. My Name is Stardust is fully illustrated in watercolor and is a beautiful book that gets children excited about science and their connection to the cosmos.
13-year-old Bailey Harris is an author, speaker, and advocate for freethought and human rights. She is the author of the Stardust series of science books for young readers.
Bailey is on a mission to inspire a love of science and a sense of wonder about the universe, promote freethought, and work towards acceptance of scientific fact in society and government. She was eight years old when she was inspired to write her first book, a beautifully illustrated children's book that presented sound science in a manner accessible to young readers and pre-readers.
My Name Is Stardust was launched through a highly successful 2016 Kickstarter campaign, released in 2017, and has sold thousands of copies worldwide. Follow-ups Stardust Explores the Solar System (2018) and Stardust Explores Earth's Wonders (2019) have continued in that tradition, presenting concepts of astronomy, geology, biology and principles such as the Big Bang and evolution.
The success of the Stardust series of books has enabled Bailey to carry her message in person to people all across the United States. While at BookCon in New York in 2017 promoting her first book, she appeared on iHeartRadio's "The Public Library Podcast," where she spoke to host Helen Little about the importance of books and learning in her life.
More recently, she was a featured speaker at the Freedom From Religion Foundation's 2018 conference in San Francisco. As the youngest featured presenter in the history of the event, she delivered a talk about the difficulties she faced growing up and going to school in an area where the predominant religion was so dominant that the lines between church and state often blurred.
When she isn't writing or sharing her books with the world, Bailey is a 7th grader at the Open Classroom in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she started the first middle school chapter of the Secular Student Alliance. She plays soccer for club team Impact United and is a huge fan of Real Salt Lake.
I backed this book on Kickstarter based on the premise alone & I'm glad I did. Authored by a 9yo girl & her father, this beautifully illustrated book introduces some big ideas about our universe, including evolution, tied together by the reminder that we are all of us, everything & everyone, made up of stardust.
An excellent book for children (and adults) about where we came from. Simple science, facts--not myths. My grandsons loved it, so did my daughter. So did I!
A brilliant, lovely, and important book with a brilliant message. I think this story is perfect for children to stimulate their curiosity about the nature of our universe. And also for parents who aim to raise intelligent, scientific-minded, and critical thinkers.
Terlalu singkat banget wkwk.
Are we really made of stardust? Yes! Everything in our solar system is made of stardust. This includes you! It's pretty amazing for most people to learn this beautiful truth in science. The fact that everything is made of stardust helps us understand our connection to the cosmos and everything in the world around us.
The illustrations were cute and the language is simple and easy to understand. This is something I would read/give to my younger cousins to learn more.
I'm so glad that I saved this book series as my last reads of 2022. I'm 61 and learned a few new things I didn't know before! Great books, Bailey and Doug!
