I’ve always been fascinated with the little Bonsai trees, but I’ve also always been intimidated about the stories I’ve heard that they are “temperamental” and difficult to grow. I saw this book and thought that it wouldn’t hurt to get a peek at what it would take to truly grow one. The author gives us the instructions in this book on how to grow, care for a Bonsai and even the history of the Bonsai trees. Set up a little like a textbook with chapter summaries at the end, we are given an introduction into this intriguing world. I loved the pictures that were included and the information that was being presented to me was easy to understand. I think the most interesting thing about it is that the author made me believe that I could actually achieve this and grow one of theses miniature trees if I follow the guidelines laid out. Ultimately, I think this is what he set out to do, so he is successful in my eyes.

Akira Takahashi’s Bonsai: A Beginner’s Guide on How to Cultivate and Care for Bonsai Trees begins with an excellent history of when and how these miniature trees developed into an art. From the beginning you will recognize the knowledge and passion the author has for this skill. He explains the basic needs these trees require, but then gives in-depth details for each popular tree. The needs for care may vary as well as climate, soil, and purchasing quality.
I found the pictures in Bonsai: A Beginner’s Guide on How to Cultivate and Care for Bonsai Trees very colorful and inviting. I loved how Akira Takahashi included several variations of design and different kinds of trees. I feel confident I can follow his guide book and grow a tree myself. I would know which tree fit my needs and skills, along with the equipment needed. This is a very informative and helpful manual for beginners and those interested in expanding their hobby.

Wonderful guide needed as a beginner to this beautiful ever changing art.
I am waiting for my 1st bonsai tree to arrive next week.This book goes through types, best growing area soil fertilizing. Wiring and shaping for each type of tree disease's to look out for and so much more. Did I mention pictures? Beautiful it seems like it is a beautiful encyclopedia. Thank you.
I also just found a Bonsai nursery 7 miles from my house. Every other one was 40 to 50 miles away. I wasn't even looking for one. I have this wonderful guide and a nursery that told me even for the bonsai I dont but from them they will help me.

Comprehensive book for beginners
The English in this book has not been edited properly, there are repetitions of paragraphs and poor grammar throughout - the content is decent and comprehensive without going into advanced information or details.

Super basic
Felt more like an outline into terminology and techniques. Didn't really go in depth about anything specific , mainly just mentioned terms,techniques and tools without giving detailed explanations.

Great info for a beginner, but the book desperately needs an editor. Whole paragraphs are repeated, sentences are incomplete and there are many typos.

it had a wide range of limited information. i was hoping for more detailed pictures on wiring and not a 'check with your local bonsai club' at the end of each section. (which we don't have here)
